Can't get enough? Look out for: Oi Frog, Oi Dog, Oi Cat, Oi Puppies
Oi Frog and Friends is a top ten bestselling series. Loved by children and parents, the books have won numerous awards, including the Laugh Out Loud Picture Book Award, and been shortlisted for many more!
Kes Gray is a bestselling, multi award-winning author of more than 70 books for children. He eats Ideaflakes for breakfast, spreads silliness on his toast and lives in a place called Different. Kes was the second bestselling picture book author in 2018.
The Oi series yet again continues to delight and prove that a simple and fun rhyming tale can still have new and fresh ideas in the fourth entry in the series.
It's easy to rhyme Dogs, Cats and Frogs with various items that they should sit on, but what about a Duck-billed Platypus? Frog comes up with a genius idea where the longer named animals should sit.
With plenty of fun ideas and striking illustrations that really makes this one of the best modern picture books that both young and old can enjoy together.
This truly is a masterpiece of a novel! It is my favourite book of the series, I do so love reading it with my children and we both really enjoy meeting all the different animals. My best friend also shares the same opinion as me and we hope to spread the word of this splendid book to all the people in our local book club so they can enjoy it as much as we have!!!!!
This has to be my favourite yet from the wonderful team of Kes Grey and Jim Field. In hindsight, frog, cat and dog are really easy words to rhyme with. Our imaginative frog is given a much bigger task to find rhyming words for some difficult names because these animals don’t know where they can possibly sit. Luckily, he quickly makes rhymes with the animal’s first names. I wonder if every child in the class can find a word to rhyme with their name? With Jim Field’s bright and lively illustrations this will have great appeal to all readers young and old. The looks on the animal’s faces are magnificent.
This one is wonderful as it's so imaginative. It focuses on the more exotic animals with names that are not easy to rhyme with. It's funny and witty as you would expect. Absolutely brilliant.
One of the better installments in the Oi! series. A ton of exotic animals demand that Frog tells them exactly what they should be sitting on, but when Frog struggles to make any rhymes he quickly starts making them sit on things that rhyme with their first names! Some of the animals that pop up are surprising, so it's a great chance to introduce your little one to animals that they won't have encountered before (especially not in picture books), and with so many common names featured there are going to be a lot of children who get very excited when Frog rhymes their name with the thing that they're supposed to sit on. Of course, this is an Oi! book, so things do get pretty ridiculous - especially when the kangaroo turns up - but that just means it will also appeal to your slightly older children too.
Very nice! Follows the same pattern as the previous books and kids will love it. It helps if you know some Aussie lingo and speak Strayan. I kinda don't but I'll give it my best when I read it aloud to classes of kids! Might be the funniest of the series due to the sheer volume of animals involved. I didn't see the twist at the end coming. Well done!
Great book to reinforce knowledge of rhyming. Each animal has an item that rhymes. Could be a good starting point for poetry based on the same theme? Or a story or maybe a piece of art with their own rhyming animal.
Kes Gray's "Oi Duck-Billed Platypus" is a delightful romp through the whimsical world of animal antics that will leave both kids and adults in stitches. With its cheeky humor and clever wordplay, this book effortlessly captivates readers of all ages.
The story revolves around a duck-billed platypus navigating a series of humorous misunderstandings and zany situations, all brought to life through Gray’s sharp wit and playful storytelling. Each page is brimming with vibrant illustrations that perfectly complement the clever text, making the reading experience even more enjoyable.
What I love most about this book is how it embraces silliness and encourages laughter. The humorous dialogue and unexpected twists not only entertain but also invite kids to engage their imaginations. Gray’s ability to incorporate humor in a way that sparks joy and prompts giggles is truly commendable.
Overall, "Oi Duck-Billed Platypus" is a charming read that combines fun, creativity, and a dash of nonsense, making it a perfect addition to any child's bookshelf. Highly recommend for family storytime or as a gift—this book is sure to become a favorite!
A hilarious story about a frog who tries to rhyme animals to know where they can sit.
I just couldn't resist this book when I saw it in the library. It looked cute, and I was curious where the animals should have to sit. Sure, I was a bit confused, why couldn't the animals just sit on chairs and the likes? But then I shrugged and went along with it.
As you read, the frog has to rhyme animals names with where they can sit... it sounds simple, but can you think of anything that rhymes with platypus and ibex? Only he isn't having an easy time as is evidenced. These are the animals with not so easy to rhyme names. There is a whole group just waiting for frog to tell them where to sit, patiently but also eager to learn their sitting destination. But then an idea pops in his head and I just loved it. He thinks of a wonderful plan and helps out everyone... well.. Nah, you will have to read to find out.
I had a laugh seeing where the animals had to sit. From slippers to sailors to sherbet candy. Don't think you will ever get a normal seat.
He really is wonderful at rhyming, though with some I had a hard time seeing how it rhymed. Then again, I am not native English so maybe the pronunciation I know is different from how some English people would do it.
The art was really fun, I loved seeing the various animals and how they were drawn.
This book isn't only fun for the rhyming and seeing frog be creative and original, but also for kids to learn various animals.
Oi Duck-Billed Platypus! is another great book in the Oi series and I think this one is my favourite so far.
In this book frog finds somewhere to sit for some animals with very tricky names to rhyme with. It was great to see lots of more unusual animals in this book and it gave the children lots to look at and be intrigued by as we learnt some new animals.
The rhyming is great as usual and this is a good book to help children understand the concept of rhyming words. The illustrations are funny, colourful and eye catching just like the rest of this series. The children love this style of illustrations and find the pictures very funny as they get to see what each animal sits on this time.
My favourite part of the book was the ending, I found this very amusing myself and definitely didn't see it coming but I like frogs attitude and it shows that sometimes however much you might want to do something we all give you from time to time. This is a fantastic book that the children loved and I really enjoyed too.
2 yo Bud LOVES this book. It is ridiculous but so entertaining. Plus he has learned a whole heap of new animals since coming across this book. He brings it to us daily to read and has memorised parts of it which is lovely to hear him repeat.
A great accompaniment to this book is the series narrated by David Mitchell on Audible. His reading is hilarious and makes for more tolerable child friendly listening on long journeys.
A library book that we renewed the maximum number of times before returning.
Just like the other books by Gray and Field this is an amazingly amusing book where frog almost gets tripped up, but quickly recovers to find things that these oddly named animals can sit on.
Super creative, amazing illustrations: sure to be a favorite during story time!
tundub, et selle sarja otsad on nüüd kokku tõmmatud, sest isegi kass ja koer hakkavad juba konna riimimisoskusest tüdinema. siiski, kõik raamatud Oi Frog'ist alates ja siiamaani välja on väga meeleolukas lugemine. no mulle sobib selline viieaastastele suunatud huumor :)
First completed read of 2019... unexpectedly but gloriously. Kes Gray and Jim Field have taken their Oi concept, given it a good shake and out roll more deliciously alliterating diamonds and a laugh out loud (sorry, quiet bookshop) last line.
Another brilliant book from Kes. It's the perfect blend of funny and downright bonkers. I adore the whole series and its one of my favourite books to read with the kids. In our home these have overtaken Julia Donaldson on the most read bedtime stories front.
This is the best book to be ever written! It is considered to be a literary masterpiece, by my colleagues and I..and stands strongly next to fantastic novels like War and Peace, Gone with the Wind and To kill a Mockingbird. A must have on everyone’s bookshelf
Delightful, funny and so inventive with rhyme and ridiculousness! Every hard-to-rhyme animal must sit on a certain thing, and nothing else but! Not only are Kes Gray's words a linguistic treat, but Jim Field's illustrations are brilliant. I can't wait to read the rest of the series.
