If your soul is born into darkness, can light save you?
While trying to get used to the new world Ura has found herself thrown into, protecting those she cares about seems impossible. With the threat of losing her mother, Ura has no choice but to do as she is told, and hope that Maxx will help her.
The clans are at war, and it is said only the True Light can stop it before it destroys another planet...and nothing will be left. The prophecy is awakening...and only one soul can stop it.
G. Bailey is a USA Today bestselling author of books that are filled with everything from dragons to pirates. Plus, fantasy worlds and breath-taking adventures. Oh, and some swoon-worthy men that no girl could forget. G. Bailey is from the very rainy U.K. where she lives with her husband, two children and three cheeky dogs.
Dark Soul is the second book in the From the Stars series, and this book doesn’t disappoint. Continuing in from the end of book one, Aura and Maxx have been kidnapped. After Maxx heals Aura, they are allowed to remain in the same room where they realise that Aura can Dream Gaze, which is something that only soulmates with True Light can do. However Aura has to spend time with Austin her “promised” and learn to fight, rather than being free and spending time with Maxx. Will Aura and Maxx escape or will she be forced to complete the ceremony with Austin?
I really enjoyed the second book to this series. This world that G. Bailey created is amazing. The Light and Dark clans with blue and pink as their colors is even better. Maxx really grew on me in this book and I love how protective he was of Aura (plus his strength of character was so refreshing). Aura was so strong and a fighter in this book considering the perils she had to face with Austin. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series!
Another exciting book from G. Bailey!! Ms. Bailey possesses this deep well of imagination that always brings so many elements together that you're left a little mind blown and with one epic book hangover!! Aura and Maxx are such brilliant creations, their bond has been both beautiful and tragic. I loved the dreams that were such an integral part of the plot 💖💖💖 They were both so touching and yet so very bittersweet as well. Maxx is one guy who you totally want to call your own. I loved every twist and turn and the ending was almost perfect! I'm excited for the next edition and cannot wait to learn just how the true light will change things!! These series covers are absolutely gorgeous 💞 I never expected to root so wholeheartedly for aliens before 💗💗💗
Fantastic 2nd book! I loved this one so much more than the first book in this series. We see the characters grow. In the first book I has some issues with Maxx. But he kind of grew on me in this book. We get to see a different side to him and it made me fall in love with him. We get to see Aura grow into her powers and figure out where she fits in in her new world. The world by the way is absolutely amazing.
I honestly loved everything about this book. I feel like the first book was a little bit all over the place but this one everything fits together and makes me long for the next one!
Side note: THE COVERS ARE TO DIE FOR. Seriously I need the paperback on my shelf when it comes out.
Amazing 2nd book of the series. It picks up right where the first left off. I absolutely love Maxx and Aura. They have so much fight in them and have so much to overcome. The dreams are swoon worthy 💕💕💕💕. Maxx and Aura have such a different relationship than in True Light. You get a lot of questions answered. I don’t want to give any spoilers but this book had me laughing and I cried. A must read but all of G.Bailey books are .
Ugh what a whirlwind! Start back up where book 1 ended. Aura and Maxx stuck in basically a prison. With Austin. God that guy is a jerk! Austin making her kill people and wanting her to mate with him.. yuck! The ending though..dang G. Bailey!! Can't wait for book 3!
I love this series. I love this couple. I loved this book. So my opinion is definitely biased.
Maxx and Aura grew closer in this story. They have much growing still to do but I really like the way this story is going. Now that we know that they are the 'true light' and we know it has to work out, I loved the ending of this book. I can't wait to see Aura grow into her powers. I want to see who Maxx truly is. We didn't get the real Maxx in the first book and this book was similar. You can see glimpses of him and see how other people really respect him but I hope the next book we get to see the 'why.' These two are some of my favorite book couples.
This is such an good appropriate and exciting young adult read, it has everything, angst, romance, mystery, adventure and chaos. The turmoils the main character suffers is abhorrent but the journey through it and the determined will to survive and never break aspiring. This book starts immediately where it was left off, kidnapped, confused and heartbroken over the loss of friends and freedom, it takes trust and love to escape the torturous psychopaths. Aura is epic and grows so much throughout this book, becoming stronger and never letting her guilt and despair handicap her defiance and proving to be a formidable force capable of becoming an exceptional leader. Maxx also has evolved into such a different more mature fearless leader, accepting his soulmate connection and destiny, Maxx never breaks under his captors brutal hospitality. Exploding authority and confidence in all his actions makes Maxx an admirable leader for the change that needs to happen. The romance is incredibly sweet and romantic, the innocence it’s screams and unwavering support and trust idealism. What started as a farce dislike towards one another with an undeniable pull, turned into friendship than passionate adoration and love. The supporting characters are addicting their presence making a lasting impression, wether they were allies or enemies, making the reader curious about their background and how they will find their ending when the war is won. This story ends on a heartbreaking cliffhanger but is worth the adventure.
So we pick up right where book one leaves off. Aura and Maxx are kidnapped by Austin and the dark clans and they find themselves in a secured prison. Austin decides to start Aura's training by forcing her to drain lights as a way to break her down and accept her dark light. Meanwhile we have Austin and his father planning a take over of Earth and getting Aura to finally mate with Austin as that was what was originally planned for them. Every chance they get Aura and Maxx manage to escape and meet one another in their dreams. Will Maxx and Aura be able to save all the lights and escape with their lives, and love, in tact?
This installment really sheds light on the light and dark side of the species. We learn more about what the true light really is and how it is to be possessed. Maxx really does evolve and the dream visits are integral to this change. He actually opens up and lets Aura in on his true feelings and why he was such a jerk gets explained. We get even more background on Maxx and his family and finally we learn what happens with Aura's mother and the true story behind her disappearance.
This book is fast paced and again you are hooked in from the first page. The world building is impeccable and you really are transported to another world in this book. All the characters continue to evolve naturally which gives them a real, whole feeling in them as individuals and as a team. This book is a quick and easy read that you'll be happy to have read. Also, again, amazing cover art!
This book is the second installment of the trilogy From the Stars and I gotta say, it was pretty anti-climactic, IDK if it was me of I've read way too many of these types of books, but if I had to sum up the book in one word, it would be... predictable. It sounded like JLA's Lux Series Suzanne Collin's The Hunger Games Series Shelly Crane's Significance series had a baby, and it turned out bad, really bad.
I see the plot as a poorly done Lux Series fanfiction. If I'm not mistaken, this was the book that all the action was supposed to take place in, the most anger I got was Aurora ripping a note to shreds. 🤣🤣
That is the only reason I came up with as to why Maxx and Aurora got mystical marks after bonding à la Significance series
Okeken was hardcore channeling President Snow in his all-white attire and manipulative, conniving ways and his son, Austin reminded me of Draco "my father will hear about this" Malfoy
First of all, I absolutely love these covers. Gem is known for having eye catching covers, ones that you can stare at for days. Second, as always Gem has written a story that sucks you in a fast paced storyline that keeps your attention until the very end. Good news is that we do not have a cliffhanger, not like the last one.
We start out with Aura, she had been taken along with the Maxx, Landon and a few surprise people who make an appearance. Austin and his father have big plans for Aura. But first she must complete some training that Austin is forcing on her. This is where Aura, aka Freckles, shows us how strong of a character, and well written she is. She has her fears and flaws but at the end of the day she is strong and fights for her people. Maxx who you may have thought as a comple A@@ in True Light, makes up for it here. He is being used to get Aura to cooperate, and all of his concern is on Freckles. These two are just perfect for each other. We do get a few questions answered, find out some new things, and see a relationship build. All in all this is a great addition to this series, and I am very much looking forward to Shadow Kiss.
Mainly told from Aura's POV, who is the main character in the story. The storyline is actually quite good however there isnt much depth to it. The story needs to be filled with more detail to give more depth to it, making it easier to fall into the world you are reading about. Aura is a halfling with supposedly a lot of power. We only read about a weak halfling and nothing changed this view throughout the second book which is a real shame. The only thing she managed to do is drain people against her wishes which came naturally to her. Apparently we find out at the end that Maxx taught her to flash through the dreams which was never mentioned before. Such a shame this could have been an amazing second book which in my opinion flopped because there was no depth.
This was a great addition to the series, the 2nd book picks up right where the first left off and it sucked me in from the start. As much as I loved the first book, the second is so much better! Maxx and Aura finally seem to start figuring out how to be a couple. When True Light ended, I wasn’t certain how I felt about Maxx but in this book we learn more about him and why he acts the way he does. We learn more about the reason for tension between light and dark. We also get to see how strong Aura is. She has fears and flaws like everyone else, but she is strong and willing to fight for what she believes in. I’d also like to point out how beautiful the covers for this series are. I love the eye-catching, vibrant colors! I am also really looking forward to the next book in the series.
Yes...finally get more of this amazing and unique story by the talented G. Bailey! This book starts straight off where book one finished and it absolutely captivated my attention all the way through! I had some real up and downs in this book, a lot of questions answered but now more unanswered questions for the next book! I love Maxx and Aura and even though in this book there is not a lot of them ‘together’ they still continue to develop in their relationship together. The supporting characters are also great and I love meeting Maxx’s mother! Can’t wait for more of this exciting series. This book is full of power, distress, action and love! Highly recommended!!
***I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.*** This is the second book in this series by G. Bailey. It is a young adult sci-fi fantasy series. Unfortunately, I have a really hard time getting into this book and series. It is something with the Fantasy Genre... I like some fantasy, but not much. So I either end up liking the book or not liking it based on the story-line. This book and the writing is wonderful. However, since I am not into the who Fantasy worlds and such, it makes it very hard for me to review these books. The world G Bailey creates and the characters within that world are amazing, but just not for me.
I love all of G. Bailey's work I can never put the book down. This second book in the series was grate you don't know how they will escape or be together but you are routing for them to do so.. there are happy moments and sad moments, and thjngs you may not suspect but will blow you away! It's about love that's fated, even tho they don't understand or quite believe it themselves. Really good read for anyone who likes si-fi fantasy/supernatural reading. Can't wait for the next book your an amazing writer G im Impatiently waiting for the next one, lol (and I don't mean just this series)
Imma try to keep this short and sweet. Alright so Dark Soul is a young adult sci-fi fantasy romance. It’s the second instalment in the From the Stars series that doesn’t end in a cliffhanger but prepares you for the next sequel. Aura, Maxx, Landon and many Lights have been kidnaped and Aura will do anything to try and escape with all her loved ones intact, the question is what does she sacrifice and will they escape. G.Bailey has well thought out characters especially the villains in this story, and like game of thrones, wish they die a horrible slow death. If you haven’t read the first book get to it now then while you’re at it give this one a go too.
Dark Souls was a perfect continuation to Aura and Maxx's story. I enjoyed that Aura was still the strong stubborn MC we saw in Book 1, but grew a bit more to showcase her upcoming powers as the true light. I did think this was on the shorter side and I would have loved to see Austin get a more gruesome death because he was such a wanker, but this Book did gave us answers to all the questions we had at the end of Book1. I am looking forward to the ending of this series and how Book 3 will sum up all the moving parts that Bailey left open at the end.
Sorry no spoilers included! So all I’m going to say is I absolutely loved this book, but then again I’ve loved every book that G. Bailey writes! Anyway this book begins where the first book in this series left off. And like the first book this one has so many twists and turns that I lost track of how many and like the first book this one sucked me in and wouldn’t let me out until I got to the end of the story. So yes I definitely do recommend this book because I thought it was absolutely amazing!
I can't wait for book 3!! Girl you never let me down when I read your books! They get better and better. We are finally moving into the next stage of Ura and Maxxs relationship. Yea! We got a good amount of questions answered and of course we have new questions now. I loved the shadow man and woman. It gave them hope for their future and helped them move forward when times were pretty rough being locked up. The end.. Dang those cliffhangers! I can't wait to see what happens with the gang and their new members. Did everyone get out?? That's the question. 💜
Another hit from Mrs Bailey! I absolutely LOVE the world Gem has created in this series! This book picks up where True Light left us with Ura taken after a shocking revelation and losing a friend. She finds things are worse off than she originally thought but doesn’t bat an eye and stays strong and ready to kick some a$$!! Maxx is there for her with his always lovingly snarky charm. I loved them being able to dream gaze! It was interesting and an integral part of the story! Such an interesting and awesome read! Can’t wait to read more! 😍
Maxx really redeems himself in this story. At the end of True Light, I wasn’t really sure of him, but in this story we learn more about him and the reasons for his behaviors. Dark Soul picks up right after True Light, with Aura and Maxx trying to escape. At times it was heartbreaking to see what Aura has to do. We also learn more about what the true light is. I look forward to seeing what happens next in this series.
The second book in the series picked back up where TL last left us. I really enjoyed that we didn’t miss anything from the transition into book two. I have four stars because I felt that the book was rushed and much shorter than the previous book. I love book one but book two fell a little shorter for me. I’m still really interested to see where the story continues to go and hope the story continues to progresses a little more romantically now that they can touch without draining each other.
This book starts where book one finished and allows you to see more into the Light and Dark and what the True Light really means. Aura and Maxx’s relationship builds and develops more in this book which was lovely to see and I love the dreams that are weaved within the story. I didn’t think I would enjoy a story about aliens but this series is awesome and I can’t wait for more where I am sure it will be filled with more twists and turns like this one. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
All of the feels! My heart was hurting so much for Aura and Maxx as I read this book, both for them as soulmates and as individuals. I can’t wait for when I finally get to see them experience all the happiness that they deserve! Despite this book keeping me in my feelings the entire time (and maybe, even, because of it), this was a great sequel. I’m inclined to think I liked it even more than the first book.
I really really loved the first one so it surprised me that I loved this one even better!! G. Bailey creates the most magical worlds and I am so grateful I get to read her awesome stories. This story picks up right where the previous book left off. Aura is still a badass and the guys really started to grow on me in this book! I normally don't read books about aliens but I am so happy I got to read this one. So excited for the next one!
💕i freaking love this series so much! star cross lovers fight to stay together and the odds are not in their favor!! They say Light and Dark can never be but Maxx and Aura prove otherwise! The stars have spoken! Action pack, romance, and heartbreaking scenes! Maxx and Aura will make you swoon!! Must read in order! Can’t wait for the next book! Love the gorgeous covers!! #pinkhairdontcare
This was such a thrilling read but way to short for my liking as I just wanted to read more. It does end on a good point though and is not a cliff hanger but I have so many questions that need answering so thankfully I don't have to wait for the next book.
Aura and Maxx are the cutest couple ever! I love their dream moments, they remind me of what you think high school sweethearts act like lol.
I loved the first book and jumped right into the book to see where Aura and Maxx are. My heart. Because in the book instead of fighting each other they are fighting for each other. GL Bailey does an amazing job of weaving this tale so you love (or despise) each and every character. Can not wait for the third book!!
