I was born in St. Paul, Minnesota, I still live there as well as in Dublin, Ireland. I've been a soldier, freelance journalist, tended bar, sold designer cakes, owned a painting and decorating company along with a number of other schemes and scams. If that doesn't offend you I also play bagpipes with the Brian Boru Irish Pipe Band. All my books stand alone, read them in whatever order you wish. They are filled with the sort of oddballs we are all curious about, but wisely, prefer to keep at a distance. None of my characters will be saving the world from terrorism, international banking conspiracies or coups to take over the government. Rather, they inhabit a world just below the surface of polite society, characters with one foot on either side of the law. The circumstances they find themselves in are usually due to bad decisions, but bad decisions lead to interesting stories. They serve not so much as an example but as a warning to us all. Thanks for taking the time, happy reading.

Book 8 - Crickett As I breeze through the Dev Haskell, Private Investigator series, I've started collecting information on its star. So far, I know that he's an Iraq and Afghanistan war vet with dark hair, and now I know he is highly allergic to cats. Faricy's descriptions of the ladies in each book create visuals as do his descriptions of the various male characters. Yet Dev remains an enigma.
This is the most convoluted tale in the series so far. The cast of characters is large and largely dead. Foul play abounds as do lowlifes, crime bosses, and thugs. Dev's former flame, now calling herself Crickett, is the mother of a 10-month-old baby boy named Oliver. She and Oliver show up, out of the blue, at The Spot. Things go downhill from there as she convinces Dev to help her sometime beau, Daryl Bergstrom, arrested on a drug charge claiming Daryl was framed. Drugs always mean some kind of organized crime. We're not talking Chicago or New York here; we're talking St. Paul, Minnesota's gangsters, but the mob is the mob is the mob.
Who is responsible for the murders? Who is really running this operation? How much will Devlin Haskell have to endure? These questions are mostly answered… but…
CRICKETT has a more cryptic ending that most of the earlier books. Will I learn more in the next book, BULLDOG? =====
Book 9 - Bulldog There's nothing quite like a funeral, replete with bagpipes playing Amazing Grace, to set the mood and get the tears running down my cheeks. That's where BULLDOG starts. The deceased is a long-time pal of Dev Haskell, killed for now apparent reason. Of course, Dev gets drawn into investigating. BULLDOG left me feeling verklempt by the time I had finished just two pages. Sad just doesn't cover it.
Dev's pal, Dermot Gallagher, is murdered for no apparent reason… shot for opening his front door. Detective Norris Manning tells Dev to stay out of the investigation. Of course, Dev agrees to this verbally with no actual intention of following the Manning mandate. Quite a few of the underworld characters from the previous book make their appearance here. The relationships among the criminals becomes moderately less murky as the investigations continue. Although BULLDOG isn't technically a sequel to CRICKETT, I am happy to say it does flesh out some of what I thought was left hanging.
Everyone needs a little brain candy every once in a while; Dev Haskell is mine. Each book is what I consider to be novelette length and easily readable in one or two sittings. They are mysteries, yes, but they are also generally humorous and sometimes a little bizarre. BULLDOG broke that mold for me. It is emotionally fraught and, like Dev Haskell, I wanted revenge. =====
Book 10 - Double Trouble When will he learn? Dev made the mistake of dating sisters, committed the worst of faux pas, and is now living to regret it. And, wouldn't you know it, the sisters, Lissa and Candy Flaherty, have a brother Tommy that is a pretty slick character.
After reading BULLDOG, I'm finding that DOUBLE TROUBLE is back on the humorous track. Sometimes the humor is a bit on the dark side since one of Dev's clients is Andy Lindbergh, president of C. Lindbergh Memorials… as in caskets and funeral home supplies. The other client, Royal Baker, President and CEO of Tri-Cort Services, Limited, an online escort service, is definitely a privileged shady character.
DOUBLE TROUBLE is filled with hairbrained schemes and enough con men to make your head spin. This one will surely make you laugh out loud as you follow the antics of this strange cast of characters as they interact in the underworld of St. Paul, Minnesota. =====
Book 11 - Yellow Ribbon The Dev Haskell series is touted as humorous detective fiction. Until this book, I have agreed. However, this one is as serious as a heart attack and shows a side of our almost lovable detective not seen before. Dev is literally out for blood and will let nothing get in his way.
If you've been reading this series in order, I am sure that you, like I, have concluded that Dev Haskell is something of a horn dog. The beginning of YELLOW RIBBON seems to confirm this twice over. Keep reading my friend. Things are not always as they seem.
Faricy has succeeded in showing the soft underbelly of our beloved, beer swilling, girl watching, always in the wrong place, private investigator. One thing about Dev is he is never aggressive when it comes to his conquests. Even when a woman is passed out drunk, he doesn't take advantage. He puts them to bed, covers them up, and sleeps on the couch. As I make my way through the series, I find myself liking him more and more.
Emma and Ava, sisters aged five and four respectively, are kidnapped. Haskell will move heaven and hell to secure their safe return. As always, Dev gets himself into more trouble than is absolutely necessary, but little girls need his help so his impulsive nature is more than understandable. These kidnap victims are the children of Isabella and Danny who was killed in Afghanistan during Operation Enduring Freedom, in 2011. Everything screams tear jerker!
I'd like to add a point of personal privilege here… I've never understood just how the song "Tie a Yellow Ribbon Round the Ole Oak Tree" became the theme song for veterans returning home from war. The song is about a guy coming home from prison. He's a criminal. I'm a vet who never served in a war zone, but I think I would be offended by the whole yellow ribbon thing. Equating those who have served their country with criminals is just wrong.
In any event, the yellow ribbon in the story is about bringing home loved ones… not once, but twice. If YELLOW RIBBON doesn't make you weep and rage, I don't know what will. =====
Book 12 - Dog Gone Dev has a new girlfriend. Her name is Maddie, and she has a golden retriever named Morton. As the story always goes, Dev gets trapped into a job he doesn't really want, but he does make a new friend in the process. You guessed it, Maddie gets a family emergency call, and Dev gets the dog along with pages and pages of instructions on the care and feeding of Morton. Let the hilarity begin.
Dev gets himself a new client while taking Morton for his evening constitutional. He is passing a house, hears a woman scream, and ever the gallant, Dev rushes to the rescue nearly getting his head bashed in for his trouble. Natasha Kominski wants to win best of show in the Blessington Kennel Club show, and she will do just about anything to make that happen. This is a convoluted tale of dog lovers and dognappers where it is pretty difficult to know the good guys from the bad.
This is almost a happily ever after dog story… almost but not quite. =====
Book 13 - Scam Man As I suspected might happen, Morton is back! You did read the previous book in the series, DOG GONE, right? No? Oh, well… your loss. And, Dev has a new girlfriend. Stop rolling your eyes. This one could be serious. He's wining and dining her and being the perfect gentleman. By the way, she too has a dog, a chocolate lab named Lady Godiva. Two dog lovers… a match made in heaven?
Love is in the air. Heidi Bauer has met 'the one.' She's head over heels for a man who makes claims that, if true, just might put him in line for sainthood. Dev suspects a big IF as he sets out to investigate Heidi's amour du jour. As you might suspect, craziness ensues.
In these unprecedented times, everyone needs an escape. Maybe you look to fantasy, but should you like your vacation from the day to day to be a bit more down to earth, I recommend the Dev Haskell Private Investigator series. You can take your getaway one book at a time or look for the omnibus editions. Just be sure to start your holiday with book 1, RUSSIAN ROULETTE, so you don't miss any of the action. =====
Book 14 - Foiled Dev Haskell, ever the good Samaritan, finds himself babysitting, and ultimately befriending, a member of the tinfoil hat brigade named Ignatius Arnold, better known as "Iggy." Mortimer helps with this achievement a lot.
Dev Haskell hasn't seen Bonnie Lowry in ten years. She's divorced, with three kids whose names reflect her drinking habits over the years, and now developing software with her computer genius roomer, Iggy. Of course, the software is a game changer, Bonnie and Iggy are in danger… you can guess the rest. Niles Wegger, another programming genius, and international online scammer is at the heart of all the troubles. Follow Dev down the highways and byways, and even a river chase, as he foils the dastardly plot.
If you've been reading the series (you HAVE been reading it, right?), Lucious Dixon, ex-NFL player with anger management issues, is becoming quite the regular sidekick for Dev. He's big, he loves to eat, and he drives like an old lady. Once you get past his size and propensity for shopping bags full of fast food, he's on OK guy.
If you're looking for a few laughs, a lot of action, and voluptuous babes… look no more. This is the series for you.
Great continuation of the Dev Haskell series. Mike Faricy is a wonderful author who is incredibly descriptive, to the point that you feel as if you are in the story seeing it for yourself.
With the Dev Haskell Box Set 8-14 (Dev Haskell - Private Investigator), author Mike Fairicy continues to give the reader laughs, mystery, suspense, and some light-hearted romance and sex. Some readers may remember the “double feature” when for the price of one ticket you could see two films. The Dev Haskell Box Set 8-14 is even better. For one price you get seven fun-filled P.I. novels featuring many of the characters from the Dev Haskell Box Set 1-7. This box set, number 8-14 is entertaining, amusing, and just fun. Each book is a jewel of laughs, action, dialog, and unpredictability. Dev and his supporting cast are featured which makes the reader feel right at home. These guys are regular dudes, granted they have eccentricities aplenty. Do yourself a solid and read all the Dev Haskell P.I. novels. You will have a great time.
This book is not as advertised. Says it contains books 8-14. It is only four books. 11-14 I believe. If anyone out there can tell me how to access the other three "hidden" books in there, feel free! LOL!!
The private detective Dev Haskell is a very likeable but flawed character that you want to succeed. He has an on and off relationship with Heidi that you want to work. Part of the attraction is that something always happens to get in the way of this happening. Some of hey situations he finds himself in area but corny, and Dev only ever manages to stay out of trouble by the seat of his pants. This area to the suspense and believability of the characters. All the female characters appear strong willed and survivors. An enjoyable series
These 7 books were amazing! Once I became used to the many grammar, spelling and punctuation errors, I really enjoyed the stories! Lots of great action and humor in all of them! I doubt that a guy like Luscious could exist, eating as he does, but he provided much entertainment! Dev himself would be a legend, if he existed. Kind of a crass, uncaring soulless individual, but in his own way, assisted many!
I wonder who the editors or writers are? I think their education is somewhat lacking! However, I very much enjoyed the tales! Loved Morton!
There are times I come home from my office job and say to my husband "they really beat me up this time." After reading this book, I've got to say what I get in the office is nowhere near what Dev Haskell gets on a typical day. This is the book for you if you want something to take you away from your every day, away from the politics and the job stresses. It's a quick read. I just hope that you're not bugged by all the typos like I was.
Mike Faricy is always a nice retreat into some leisurely reading entertainment. His stories will most certainly bring a smile to your face , and keep you flipping pages to see what happens next. I highly recommend any of his books for some great fun.
I give this 5 stars. I read the 1st 14 stories in the Dev Haskell series in under 2 weeks. Once I started I couldn't quit. Dev is a normal everyday guy that's easy to relate to. The story line continues through the whole set. I never lost interest. Each book builds off the last and characters pop up in new stories. I can't wait to read more!
I have read all of the books in the Dev Haskell series, and I have thoroughly enjoyed every one. Fast paced, with a bit of humor thrown in for good measure. Dev’s “associates” come from all walks of life and keep the stories interesting. Dev is the PI women love to hate. If you read one, you will want to read them all.
I LOVED the 1st Box set so much I had to get this one. Dev Haskell is relentless as a P.I. He'll get the job done Even if he doesn't know what he's doing! Many laugh out loud moments. I'd recommend him to EVERYONE, He's a man's man, and a woman's bit of excitement, Maybe! Flick through I'm Sure you Won't be disappointed
Well written, engaging and often amusing, these novels starring Dev Haskell are sure to please! He gets entwined in a series of scrapes themed as diversely as a dog show, involving the local mob, con men scammers and computer programming nerds. He has become a firm favourite of mine. Thanks Mike!
Such a intriguing series. Dev, with a addictive character . At times you feel he's man whore and other times you get the sentimental side of his character. He cries and a knight in shine armor . You can call him a round peg in a square whole. He one of a kind and a worthy read.
Action-Packed Detective Stories with Romantic Liaisons
Dev Haskell sometimes gets into situations beyond his control. He has access to folks who can help. Stubborn ingenuity leads to successful conclusions.
Dev Haskell is a private investigator, not quite Sam Spade, a tenacious, narrow-focused man with women problems aplenty. He is often beaten up but dishes it out as well and always resolves the problem.
Lots of girl friend that jump in the sack while he blunders his way though to solve the first crime while others continued to occur while the cops try to converting on hum
I would definitely download other books by this author. I had read earlier books in the Dev Haskell series she Dev and his friend Louie begin to share an office and really liked them. You have to laugh at the things Dev gets himself into.
From a lawyer to a convict, offered freedom, well kinda...
A stupid mistake , a chance to get out early. But there are always catches. From an incident that had nothing to do with him, to murder. Now he is hiding because he might be next!
I enjoyed this set of Dev Haskell mysteries. I have learned about Minneapolis-St Paul where Dev gets involved in strange situations and manages to come out all right. He just never seems to keep the girl.
This six book set kept my interest so that I read all of them straight through. Although the author can be formulaic, his characters are likeable and mostly believable.
Easy read and the characters are believable! The books are independent but the characters are growing. The romance is there but in great taste. Stories are light and fun! My new favorite author.
Dev Haskell gets himself into a number of fixes. Many times it's because he makes poor choices. He works hard to make things turn out well. They usually do for the other people involved, but not always for him.
I decided to read this series because I am addicted to series and with all the books its just what I like. Dev and his adventures are addictive - you will want to read every single book in the Dev Haskell collection. Great Read!!!!
Dev Haskell is the friend everyone wants. He has a big heart, a good sense of what is right,(whether it is legal or not), and a hard head. Every time he turns around, somehow he gets hurt. The books are easy to read, and entertaining.
So far, I’ve enjoyed all 14 of the Dev Haskell books. I’ve just drank them up from book 1 through book 14. Great characters and cute (if not cozy) action-mysteries.
