Settled in with her main guard, Verity has been dazzled by Sithen life and the possibilities of what her world could be and will be when she wins the crown, but life is about to throw her some curveballs she never thought possible. Prince of the Lotus Courts, Aziz, is on his way to her Sithen, as well as the Salim household staff that has been scattered to the winds, and of course, the rest of her guard. Knowing this Princess Verity is both ready and excited to receive those that are winging to her aid. But with the sweets, come the sour. Forces are at work against her and her guard, forces set on both hurting the princess and limiting her guard. Three times she will be tested, three times she will decide if the men she is presented with are worthy of guardship, even with the secrets they hide. But when an olive branch is extended from two other courts will Verity accept, or will she choose to navigate the waters of High Court alone?
Starts with a bang and ends with one too!!! Verify is still building her court though others seem to be thwarting her efforts left and right. I cannot begin to describe the world building and events that go on you really just have to read it for yourself. I guarantee you will not regret it!!! I loved it so I give it 5/5 stars. Now I really need book three with an ending like that!!!!
Back to the creation of the court! In the first book, Verity discovered that she was not alone and that she had people who care about her. Book 2 is about getting to know her family better and preparing for battles. More allies come forward and secrets that had been lurking just out of reach are coming closer to the surface. It seems that the current rulers have no wish to give up the throne and are becoming lethal in their tactics to remain in power. The chess board is coming into focus and the players are choosing sides. On another note, Verity is blossoming into a loving ruler and is thick in the pleasures her guards bring. The sex scenes are firey hot and enviable. I love this ser ies so much and can't wait for the next book!!!! My only regret is that you cant give more than 5 stars!!!

Note: I received this book from the author and I voluntarily give this review, it is my honest opinion.
How am I just now finding this series, I love fae, they are my favorite type of supernatural, I love reverse harems and Joshua Macrae voice is like FIRE. Awaken is the second book in the Sleeping Court series and it was freaking fantastic and the narrator Joshua Macrae's voice is EVERYTHING. Gawd that man's voice... yassss!
I don't even know what to say, the characters are amazing, the story interesting, and the world is lavish and delicious. Then add in multiple points of view in this reverse harem, the fae, shifters, royal politics, attempted assassinations, steamy romance, glamorous descriptions, and interesting magic. This story is very creative and well written. It's different and if you are looking for an escape then this book would most definitely drag you into their world.
Audiobooks are something that I consider either a gym activity (keeps my mind occupied while I workout) or on a road trip. I can't really pay attention to an audiobook at home because I am too distracted doing things or I am just sitting there and it feels weird. So it killed me to have to pause the book and wait to put it back up.
Loved the audio version of the book, Joshua Macrae is now my go-to narrator, someone once described his voice as "like sex" and I am telling you that is the best description. I have never come across a voice like his and it fits the story perfectly. If I find any more audiobooks I'm interested in and he is the narrator then I'm in.
Back from that little sidetrack, Verity is such an interesting character. She is full fae but grew up in the human world so she has those human mannerisms ingrained into her personality but in other ways her fae-side shows. Verity is smart, emotionally stable and cares so much about people and she takes everything in stride, she deals with so much and she deals with it well. The group dynamics are interesting, they all love Verity so the respect and care for each other almost like siblings. They play around and rib each other but will go to bat for each other every time.
The fae politics are so interesting, they are very complex and dangerous. How the different courts interact with each other, who has alliances, what the past history was, what are the current circumstances in each court, and then for all of them to be vying for the crown of all of faerie is truly interesting. Then you have all of these court titles, duties, and events but add in the modern world, it makes for a very interesting read.
Awaken is only the second book in the Sleeping Court series, there are two more books and I am super excited. I love the story and characters and I can't wait to see what happens next, things ended on a pretty big cliffhanger and I need to know the outcome. Trance is gonna be so good.
I am really enjoying the storyline and the world the authors have created. Everything about the Fae works like the familiars, sentient home, the differing supernaturals, and the political drama between the different fae houses were all fun and exciting to read.
For the most part, I did enjoy this book but there were a few things that kind of irked me. The cheesy and cliche “I love you”s were actually a bit excessive and like I said, delivered in what I considered to be a cliche and cheesy way. I just didn’t feel as if true sincerity was conveyed through to me as a reader during those exchanges between Verity and her guard. There are plenty of ways to convey the message of unconditional love, devotion, and loyalty that can make it appear to be more genuine and heartfelt. My other complaint is about Verity. As someone who is thrown into this completely different world, I just expected her to be fumbling more through it. She is acting as if she has grown up with princess training. It just takes away some of the believability (I know this is a fantasy novel littered with fantastical concepts no one believes)of the story and Verity as a character. I guess I just wanted to see her struggle with this new life because it would have been more enjoyable and even adding some drama to her journey.
Despite my long winded and rambling rant, I plan on continuing with this series, especially now that more guards have been introduced.
I enjoyed the diversity of characters in this series and the addition of new characters in this book. In this book Verity is trying to get her guard and court together but her cousin has other plans and is playing dirty. The only dislike I have about this book is the changing point of view from 1st person to 3rd person and different characters point of views without warning. At times I had trouble figuring out who’s point of view that I would have to go back and reread a page or so. The switching between 1st person and 3rd person point of view from same character may just be a personal pet peeve but the story is still intriguing and unique and a must read. I cannot wait to read book 3.
Ever have that moment where you read through a book fast because you just cant put it down? That's what I just did. Holy mother of basalisks. Book 2 is absolutely incredible. Verity's guard is expanding and that in itself is an adventure. But Adora's evil scheming ways are also increasing. You find out a little bit more of exactly what that psycho has been doing. I absolutely adored all the new characters introduced and everything they've gone through. Theres a few twists and surprises I wasnt expecting and it makes me want book 3 so much more. Absolutely going to be rereading this one over and over again
Please note I purchased this series via Audible as a set.
The Sleeping Court is a completed series however there are spin off series in the same universe you can indulge in and although you don’t need to read these four books first to enjoy the rest I would totally recommend it.
This series is a fast paced PRN reverse harem. Whereby our FMC needs to build a power base in order to claim a crown. It’s super steamy so expect MF, FF, MFM and MFF scenes.
It’s also written in several POV including allied characters. I listened to the audiobook so I’m of two minds of the performance some of it I liked but there were times where I cringed so maybe stick to reading as it did dampen my view of some of the characters.
This book carried straight on from book 2. Verity learns a lot more about the various courts and who may or may not side with her. She bonds more with her Guards, and they are becoming a tight knit group. There are more staff arriving to help with the preparations and along with it are more potential guards, although all is not what it seems. Verity is a likeable character, she has completely embraced her new life and accepted her Guards. All her guards are likeable and different in their own way as they all play a different part in her Guard. Overall, a great continuation, but I have a feeling that book 3 will be a lot more interesting.
m/f, f/f, m/f/m - Reverse Harem Have you read Slumber (The Sleeping Court Book 1)? If not STOP! Read it first it will help you understand what is going on in book 2 and who everyone is in relation to everyone else. That being said if you are in the mood for a super sexy reverse harem/fantasy this is the series for you. In the first book Verity discovers her legacy and starts building her court. In this book Verity continues to build her court and her enemies start testing her. This book is a pause on the path and leaves you wanting more.
This is a great sequel to the first book. There's a lot going on, the plot is building. The world is building too. The cliffhanger really hits its mark, I'm anxious to find out what's next. The only thing I'm somehow missing is some character development for the characters introduced in the first book. So far, they all seem great, but onedimensional. There is more action in this book though and the new guard-members bring an interesting layer to the universe that is created.
I was completely engrossed from page one. I loved learning more about Verity's world. I introduced my husband to this series and he finished this book before I did which is saying something because until this series, I don't remember the last time he'd read a book. The characters come to life and leave you wanting more. I'm excited to see Verity take the throne and the ass-kicking Adora will get.
I am loving where this series is taking me. I not only have an amazing story but sexy scenes that make you love everything more!!! Her RH is starting to grow and she is still figuring out what is needed of her. I cannot wait to see where this goes and what an awesome adventure. I am so happy this is a completed series because it is sooo binge worthy! Take my money because what a well written story. Has everything I like in an RH.
I've been counting the days down for this book and oh my god it was worth the wait! I thought the first was amazing but this one blew my socks off! I had planned on rereading the first one again before starting this but was just to excited lol!!! Again you get it all love, hate, passion and tears. A word of warning though if u pick this up you won't b putting it down until you've finished xx
There are not enough stars in regards to this book. You get yanked back into Verity's world and you really do not want to leave. The action is starting to pick up and I cannot wait to see what happens next. October cannot get here soon enough or quick enough. You will giggle and cry with these characters as they go through these trials.
Absolutely freaking AWESOMENESS!I knew from the first book this would be special but man wow.I love that the MC doesn't just accept on blind faith she asks for the opinion of her court and trusts her own immediate instinct before decision is made. The characters are great and u can really picture the scene in you head.
Keeps you on the edge of your seat and leaves you ready for more! We find out more info about the courts, meet new members of Verity's court. We also get an idea of who wants an alliance and who doesn't. Of course sexy, hot time with her guard...and so much more...
Eeep! I love everything about this series! Verity and her guard are everything! I love the steam level in this series and I love that this book starts out with steam from the get go! I want to say thank you to the authors for giving us such an original story! I cannot wait for book 3 and to see what is in-store for verity and her Harem 💙💙
If you asked me who I'd choose as a favorite in this series I'd have a hard time picking. Everybody has their own sense of humor and character and you just "get" them all. I love that the story has a basilisk queen! Verity still has her work cut out for her trying to fill in her guard. I'm seriously engrossed in this series, and can't wait for the next one to see where the authors take her.
One of the most unique reverse harem stories I've read! I fell in love with these characters and read the first book and this one back to back in one night. I can't wait for the 3rd! The kickass characters and unique setting and background make this a book you want to fall into the way Alice falls into wonderland. More like this please!
Ahh! I’m loving these next days with Verity and her Guard in the Sleeping Court, it was just over too soon! I’m glad we’re getting a better look at what they’re all up against and the workings of the Faerie kingdom. Love so much that the RH includes FF, which is tough to find and I really enjoy how everyone is working so cooperatively to help Verity succeed.
This is the second book in The Sleeping Court series, so if you haven't read book one, go get it, before reading this one. In Awaken, we follow Verity and her court, as she navigates politics and adding new guards. You are left wanting more.
Ok these just keep getting better. As before the hotness continues, but now Verity is having to deal with the underhanded machinations of Princess Adora. New guard show up and I’m excited to see how things work out. Book three can’t come fast enough.
Another cliffhanger, but the story is good that I don't mind and I just want more. I wish we had known more about Verity's magic, but we haven't got to that point.
Wow..... Absolutely amazing.... I could not put Awaken down... From page one it grabbed me, so much action and feelings pop out...Definitely would recommend it to anyone who loves a good, steamy and twisting action packed read!!
Sizzling steamy scenes from page one! Perfect continuation to Verity's story! Even steamier than Slumber (book 1). I loved the development of all the characters including all the new ones. If you want a book with plenty of sizzling scenes, this whole series is for you!
The h continues to call her consorts, and every one comes with a challenge. As the group grows, so does the plan for the h to take the throne. Lots of steamy scenes, unfortunately there are quick, not at all graphic and not really steamy. It's quite teenage but I like it a lot.
I am in love watching how Verity is growing to be who she was meant to be. The love and dedication you see from everyone around her is itching but beautiful. Truly a must read and I can’t wait to read the next book. So good
Having finished Book 1 last night, I started Book 2 this morning reading between doing Christmas prep. I kept getting distracted by the ongoings of Veritys guard and court. I couldn't put this down and I'm very much hooked on the Sleeping Court series
