Mustache Baby #3

Arrr, Mustache Baby!: Mustache Baby and Beard Baby become bold buccaneers in a hilarious picture book about big feelings and fair play

Arrr, babies! Mustache Baby and his first mate Beard Baby set sail on the high seas and turn into big bad pirates in this newest addition to the popular Mustache Baby books! "Occasional badness has never been so good." ( Kirkus )
In this swashbuckling tale, Mustache Baby and Beard Baby work hard to recover stolen treasure and convince baby buccaneers Captain Kid and Short John Silver to go legit. But when the scallywags refuse to play nice, Billy and Javier see red and go rogue, turning into bad guy pirates themselves. High spirits, plenty of pirate talk, and a mild message about not letting emotions get the best of you make for a rollicking read-aloud full of side-splitting, silly fun.

First sentence: Baby Billy was born with a mustache. Baby Javier was born with a beard. Usually they were fine young gentlemen.

Premise/plot: It is always a joy to see Baby Billy playing well with others. But. Sometimes he doesn't. In this newest book in the series, Billy and his friend, Javier, become PIRATES. Will they end up in the dungeon?

My thoughts: I love, love, love this series. I think this book may just be my new favorite. The book opens with these friends at THE POOL. The text reads, "One day Javier and Billy set sail across the seven seas. Ahoy!" It continues, "As Captain and first mate, they rescued shipwrecked passengers..." the accompanying illustration reveals it's a Barbie-like doll. From the start, readers can catch on this one is going to be a HOOT.

I loved the story. I loved the text. I loved the illustrations. It just works.

I loved this book because you get to see one's imagination truly come alive in this book with two babies pretending to play as pirates and living a pirate life in a community pool (the sea). This is a fun read to read to children because they can see what playing and having an imagination could look like by reading how these two little pirates wanted to protect the innocent from two bad pirates who was stealing items from others. The images in this book are well done and adorable, also they are funny as it helps bring to life the story of these two small pirates changing from good to bad and then back to good pirates after having a time out. Seeing how vivid a child's imagination could be in this book is fascinating and makes this a fun book to read to children. This would be a good book to read as summer is approaching.

Mustache baby is back. Along with his friend, the Bead baby. Baby Billy was born with a mustache. baby Javier was born with a beard. And usually, they were fine young gentlemen. Sometimes, Billy's mustache would curl up at the ends and Javier's beard would grow pointer and then... well..., you shall have to see. But today, they are both setting sail on the seven seas (aka the pool) with all good intentions. But when Captain Kid and Short John Silver steal their booty, all bets are off and the babies go rogue.

This book is filled with humor and imagination. Simple, adorable and hilarious story line, along with colorful and complementary illustrations make it an ideal book to read to preschool- Grade 1 (even though it's funny and great for all ages)

Bridget Heos has delivered a fun and imaginative pirate book. Baby Billy and Baby Javier set off on a noble adventure, but will they get carried away?

Readers will delight in this story, as they follow Billy and Javier through their imagination and antics. Heos adeptly guides the characters through play at the pool, and the natural progression from good humor to tired tantrums to naps to good humor once more in this witty pirate tale. Even the font itself adds to the fun.

Joy Ang's illustrations--digitally executed--are not to be missed, and add to the already captivating story. Readers will be hooked as they turn from page to page in anticipating Billy and Javier's next move.

This exciting tale is sure to be a hit with readers everywhere. This one will be swiped from the library shelves time and again.

In this new installment of the Mustache Baby series, Baby Billy and Baby Javier sail across the seven seas (across the community swimming pool) to find treasure. During their adventure, things go awry and they end up becoming PIRATES! Toward the end, "AVAST! The pirates were caught and forced to stand trial!" MEANING, their parents pulled them from the water and placed them in separate timeouts for naps. LOL In the end, everyone is playing happily together again and all is well. The artwork in this book was created digitally.

Avast ye mateys, Baby Billy is back with his friend Baby Javier and, despite their best intentions, their naughtiness cannot be contained! The two young gentleman are spending the day at the local swimming pool, where they save beached whales (rolling dad into the pool), rescue shipwrecked passengers (dolls that have fallen overboard), and defeat sea monsters (unsuspecting strangers) with pool noodles. When they spot two other tots, Captain Kid and Short John Silver, burying stolen treasure they vow to get it back. All goes according to plan...until Billy and Javier are taken over by their pirate altar egos. Shiver me timbers! Fans of the first two Mustache Baby books will adore this silly story with a satisfying ending. Perfect as a class read aloud, but also enjoyed independently.

Billy has a sidekick in this second story. Beard Baby joins Mustache Baby and together they work for the good at the local pool. Unfortunately, two "pirates" bury treasures they stole from other kids. The two heroes regain the treasures but become more pirate-y and begin hoarding treasures themselves. After a forced detention time (nap), they change their image and return all the items. They even become friends with the other two toddlers.
Humor throughout.

These books are so entertaining! Here we see the babies become pirates while at the pool, and it is oh so fun. There isn't a little moral like in the other books, but the illustrations and the overall message are still there. Very cute.

For: pirate fans; readers looking for a book about sharing.

Possible red flags: taking things from other children.

I really like this book because of the difference between the story told in words and the one told in pictures. Simply reading much of this story without the picture context would be confusing and significantly less entertaining. The pictures tell us what’s really happening for the most part while the words tell us how the children imagine things happening.

My 8-year-old's review: I loved it! There was a baby that was born with a mustache and another that was born with a beard and they used to be friendly but then they became pirates after they fought off pirates. I liked it because of the baby with the mustache and the one that had a beard. It was really funny!

Super cute story! I love how the personality of Baby Billy and Baby Javier came out in their facial hair and the imagination could run wild. The pairing of the text and illustrations couldn't be more perfect in this book. Highly recommended for libraries, parents, and children everywhere!

Two baby pirates with full beards and mustaches enjoy their pirating adventures at the pool. As Billy’s mustache curls up at the ends and Javier’s beard grew pointer, you’ll know they are up to trouble. Reviewer #8

This is such a cute book and I love the message that it's okay if you get a little carried away and naughty because you can always make amends and have fun again. It's important to strive for good behavior but its also important to know you'll be forgiven when mistakes are made.

Adorable entry in the series - Billy and Javier at the pool! Sword-fighting with noodles! Becoming pirates! Being sentenced to....naptime. (What kid doesn't turn into a scallywag when they're that tired??)

The Mustache baby and bearded boy are just fun. The play on words works so well. This time around they are at the pool where they become lifeguards, ships mates, and even pirates. The illustrations are just as adorable as the story.

This book was a quick read, and very entertaining. It shows young readers how you can be anything with imagination. It also shows that certain actions are not acceptable and can lead to consequences.

Cute but not anything truly different from the first two, which I adored. A fine addition to the collection if you want them all.

I like this book because Mustache Baby is giving back the treasure he found, but a ship comes near. And the other ship has a fight with the other ship .
