TL;DR: Follow the tips to drink tea and cut liquid calories. Don't follow the meal plan.
Longer form: I found this to be an interesting read and I would certainly consider drinking tea in the amount outlined in this book to see how it affects me. I drink tea on a semi-regular basis and haven't drunk calories (beyond the occasional beer or glass of wine) in years, so I don't know if my results would be profound, but they might be. I would like to see if drinking five cups per day does indeed help increase my metabolism and decrease water retention. I would not, however, consider following her meal plan, not even for a week. Cutting the diet to her recommended 1000 calories per day is hugely dangerous. That's not generally enough to support life adequately (not even if somebody as short as I am is completely idle) and can lead to serious problems like gallstones, gout, or your body breaking down muscles instead of fat. In fact, cutting calories so far can even lead to huge weight gains, as the body plunges into starvation mode and desperately tries to hold on to every calorie consumed. Choi's definition of healthy eating is also laughable, such as when she suggests ketchup as a source of tomatoes. High fructose corn syrup and salt, yes. Tomatoes, no. Pairing the five-cup tea plan with a healthy meal plan more adapted to your size and activity level (in my case, about 1500 calories) seems like a much safer bet.
I lost 4 pounds on this diet, which I followed for 7-out-of-8-days. Probably didn't lose more because my daily calorie intake was already relatively low, but this did push me out of a plateau and helped me loose those stubborn last few pounds. I don't know how much of an impact the tea had on my weight loss (I image sticking to around 1000 calories per day was the main factor), but it is what drew me to this book.
This was my first ever diet - my first attempt to dramatically change my food intake for a short period with the main purpose of weight loss - which I would not have attempted were it not for my love of tea. I loved drinking different types of tea at different times during the day for different purposes (to start the day with energy, to boost the metabolism, to avoid the afternoon slump) and keep the tea schedule in my tea cabinet as a regular reminder. Following the plan, however, was not easy. Dropping to a 1000-calorie daily intake was hard, and left me somewhat hungry most of the time. But since it was only for a week, I knew I could do it. (With a break for the one day in the middle where I had a cupcake.)
I find various food cleanses good for my mental state in that they break me out of my slump and get me to try new things, adding valuable variety to my diet. With the recipes in this book, I loved the idea of adding green tea to smoothies and finding other ways to focus on nutritionally-dense foods while minimizing or eliminating high caloric items.
For now I'm giving this book Three stars based on the theory/concepts discussed. I will update my rating after I have tried Kelly Choi's recommendations.
I have roughly about 10 pounds left to lose so of course I was attracted to a book speaking of 'melting pounds off in one week' just by simply drinking tea!! I'm no stranger to tea, I have already *personally* experienced the benefits of drinking certain teas. For example, reducing bloating, water weight, and detoxifying. However, I have never drank tea as a regimen - this is the difference that Kelly Choi proclaims will cause the pounds to come off.
I like how the author presented the information. She broke the information down into clear categories. she recommends a metabolisim burning tea, 2 fat blocking teas, a flat belly tea and a stress busting tea. Then she gives which types of tea falls into the categories (i.e mint tea is a flat belly tea), and the brands that produce them (i.e Lipton) . One doesn't even have to read the entire book to get the important concepts! Along with the tea regimen, She of course recommends a diet to accompany the tea regimen. (Because nothing is getting done with a terrible diet!) Im making changes to adopt more healthier habits and I hope that after my one week trial, that tea will become more of staple in my pantry.
so much useful information and not just for the cleanse. there's a ton of stuff you can apply to your daily life to lose weight without even having to do the cleanse.
While I don't necessarily think I will do this diet, I loved the book and its wisdom. I am a tea drinker from way back, but this will definitely help. And the recipes in the back were all great. Thanks!
I was curious about the book.... Being a tea lover it was very knowledgeable information on the different types of tea, and what they are good for.... :)
This was an interesting read. I am currently on day one of the cleanse and so far, so good! There are a lot of good habits to be gained from this book for sure. We will see how it goes!
This book was packed full of information if you would like to lose weight. I also love how she included information about certain recipes you can use to be healthy not only smoothies but also healthy meals. With every suggestion she included the facts to back it up and also any precautions on why certain herbs might be harmful for certain people in certain situations. I also love how she explained that it’s important not only to read this book but also to check the fax for yourself. Great read that short but also knowledgeable.
If you seek natural healing methods, I would recommend this book. Kelly Choi does an excellent job of informing the reader of the attributes of each of the types of teas used. She also makes it clear that the book is really not just about a cleanse, but also how different teas can help in your daily living to benefit your health, address certain conditions and aid in a longer, healthier life. I love to learn in this area and found it to be informative with benefits to my daily habits.
Even better than I expected. Not only advice about great teas, but also about good foods and supplements to take! Of course even just using the teas alone, I shed 20 of my 60 lbs of belly fat! Of course it would have been a micro bit better if it included parts "for men only", instead of just women only advice. But oh well, at least the large majority of the book was for both genders. So grateful that I decided to acquire this book in the first place!
Best tea cleanse and intermittent fasting book I have ever read. This is the only tea cleanse book I have read that gives you an hour by hour chart of how to do this diet. I use it every day to remind myself what to drink when. Love it.
I found this book very interesting, and full of healthy information. Several of these teas were already in my pantry, and I also learned some things about the ones that weren't.
I like the information in the book but it was missing something. Their was a lot of scientific research but not enough on the the Tea Plan itself. There was a lot of good recipes but where was the pictures. these are your recipes make it yours and let the readers want to cook it.
I enjoyed learning about all the different teas. And although I won't be following the food plan, the read gave really helped with blood sugar control, energy, and other issues. I'm very happy I gave teas a try!
Not sure if I would go thru with the cleanse as a whole but I did get some ideas for times and when to drink certain types of teas to help with my weight loss goals/snack cravings.
I really enjoyed reading this book. I am on day two of the Tea Cleanse and I absolutely love it. I have tons of energy and I haven't felt hungry or food deprived. More than that, the book includes great info about foods and tea that help to boost energy and improve your health as well as a section on "Herbal Healing". It's a great read even if you're not into doing a food cleanse. Just incorporating the tea and other aspects of the book in your day to day lifestyle could help make a difference.
