From Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and the writers of the CW's Riverdale comes the third collection of the comic book set in the universe of the TV series. RIVERDALE VOL. 3 offers a bold, subversive take on Archie, Betty, Veronica, Josie & the Pussycats and their friends, exploring small-town life and the darkness bubbling beneath Riverdale's wholesome facade.
Set in the same universe as the hit CW series, Vol. 3 features stories set in between episodes of the new CW TV series Riverdale.
Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa is an American playwright, screenwriter, and comic book writer best known for his work for Marvel Comics and for the television series Glee, Big Love, Riverdale, and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. He is Chief Creative Officer of Archie Comics. Aguirre-Sacasa grew up liking comic books, recalling in 2003, "My mom would take us out to the 7-Eleven on River Road during the summer, and we would get Slurpees and buy comics off the spinning rack. I would read them all over and over again, and draw my own pictures and stuff." He began writing for Marvel Comics, he explained, when "Marvel hired an editor to find new writers, and they hired her from a theatrical agency. So she started calling theaters and asking if they knew any playwrights who might be good for comic books. A couple of different theaters said she should look at me. So she called me, I sent her a couple of my plays and she said 'Great, would you like to pitch on a couple of comic books in the works?'" His first submissions were "not what [they were] interested in for the character[s]" but eventually he was assigned an 11-page Fantastic Four story, "The True Meaning of...," for the Marvel Holiday Special 2004. He went on to write Fantastic Four stories in Marvel Knights 4, a spinoff of that superhero team's long-running title; and stories for Nightcrawler vol. 3; The Sensational Spider-Man vol. 2; and Dead of Night featuring Man-Thing. In May 2008 Aguirre-Sacasa returned to the Fantastic Four with a miniseries tie-in to the company-wide "Secret Invasion" storyline concerning a years-long infiltration of Earth by the shape-shifting alien race, the Skrulls, and an Angel Revelations miniseries with artists Barry Kitson and Adam Polina, respectively. He adapted for comics the Stephen King novel The Stand.
In 2013, he created Afterlife with Archie, depicting Archie Andrews in the midst of a zombie apocalypse; the book's success led to Aguirre-Sacasa being named Archie Comics' chief creative officer.
This is not really good either, it would be a low a three stars if it wasn't for the Alice story!!! That's full on five stars, so I'm raising the rating in this to a four...
There not as many core four stories here, but it's mostly Cheryl and Reggie, who I'm not really a fan of, so I was bit annoyed and bored... Besides one of the stories was about an outbreak and another about Reggie faking a disease, which right now is a bit... weird...
But going on good things, I got some Sierra/Tom crumbs, which made me very happy!!!! And the Alice story was awesome, she's badass, and I always LOVE her owning a bit more of her Serpent past, and her chemistry with FP is always electrifying!!!
So yeah, great for any Riverdale fans who like Cheryl and/or Reggie, and I really just want a comic with only stories about the parents... GIVE ME A PARENTDALE COMIC!!!!
If you haven’t read the first two in this series you may want to do that. You can just read this one if you want to though. Even though there is a bit of an order to them it doesn’t mess too much up. I’m not going to break up all the stories in this one so that if you do decide to read it you have something of a surprise of sorts as you go along. I will say there is a story or two that involve the core four (Betty, Veronica, Archie, and Jughead) plus some that involve the more minor major characters (Reggie, Cheryl, etc.). The stories go along with the things in the show and also in the Riverdale book series so you may have a little dejavu as you read them. Still, they are great fun for fans of the series and those die hard old school Archie comics fans. I definitely recommend this to fans of anything Archie/Riverdale.
(This volume reprints Riverdale 9-12, which look to be the final issues of the series for now.)
This was good, but not quite as good as the last volume. This was more typical Riverdale stuff although slightly more comedic than you'd normally see on the show, which is actually pretty dark. It's really amazing how compelling this comic is considering it's not the type of subject matter you usually find in comics, and even more importantly it's not the type of thing I usually read. But I find myself devouring it as it's just hard to put down. I hope this series returns in some form because it ended up surprisingly good.
Considering how great the previous collection was I’m sad to say I really didn’t rate this one so much. The stories feel like rejects from the regular Archie Comics, they’re missing that m touch of darkness that makes Riverdale so different. Not horrible but not anywhere near as good as the previous volume, average.
This collection was actually a lot of fun!! I really liked all the stories, the artwork was good - the characters (except Veronica, really) looked like their actor counterparts. I loved Ethel's story, but the others were really good, too. I guess this takes place before the Carrie musical episode
The Riverdale gang is back at it. This time mono goes through the senior class. They are held from the play and Cheryl will have none of that. Archie and Jughead are mad about a truck contest. Reggie plays a prank. I have been enjoying these comics. Easy to read and nice additions to the Riverdale world.
2.5 stars - Another collection of just okay stories. PVP felt like the only authentic issue in this volume while the others were too focused on Reggie. At this point, I highly doubt I'll continue reading these comics if they proceed to be published.
This was quite disappointing compared to the first volumes. Not surprised that volume four never came out. The show had more action, betrayal, drama and conflicted love plots. This was just like a regular Archie comic.
This one was quick, easy read. I loved the Jughead story the most, but the Ethel-centric one was good, too. The mono one was goofy; the third story was okay.
