“Psychological suspense at its brightest and boldest” ( A.J. Finn, author of The Woman in the Window): Paul and Rebecca share a passion for one another that could rival any love story. But when Rebecca learns that Paul is planning to leave her for another woman, they’ll both discover that sometimes the most perfect match is also the most dangerous…

Rebecca didn’t know love was possible until she met Paul, a successful, charismatic, married man with a past as dark as her own. Their pain drew them together with an irresistible magnetism; they sensed that they were each other’s ideal (and perhaps only) match.

But twenty years later, Paul and Rebecca are drowning as the damage and secrets that ignited their love begin to consume their marriage. Paul is cheating on Rebecca, and his affair gets messy fast. His mistress is stalking them with growing audacity when Rebecca discovers Paul’s elaborate plan to build a new life without her. And though Rebecca is spiraling into an opiate addiction, it doesn’t stop her from coming up with a devious plot of her own, and this one could end absolutely everything.

What follows is an unpredictable and stylish game of cat and mouse—a shocking tale of unfaithfulness and unreliability that will keep you racing until the final twist and make you wonder how well you really know your spouse.

E. G. Scott is a pseudonym for two writers (Elizabeth Keenan and Greg Wands) who have been friends for over twenty-years, and have been writing plays, screenplays, and short stories separately since they were kids. I think I need to give up on thrillers. If they are not spectacularly well done I become irritated. The main character, Rebecca, possessed not one redeeming quality, the mistress is a watered down version of Mrs. Danvers, the husband should have been named Flat Stanley and the detectives were a snore. In addition to the poorly developed characters there are plot holes, the implausible and filler galore. I’m not happy with a one star rating but I’m far from happy with this book.

I'm probably at 3.75 stars, so I'll round up.

If you like your thrillers with more twists and turns than a roller coaster, grab your safety harness and pick up a copy of E.G. Scott's new thriller, The Woman Inside ! This is a crazy book, one which kept me guessing, kept me racing through the book to see how everything would turn out, and, if I'm honest, made me roll my eyes once or twice, too.

It was love at first sight for Rebecca and Paul. Both were wary of relationships (despite the fact that Paul was married at the time) and both shared dark and painful childhoods marked by tragedy, but they couldn't imagine not being together, almost as if destiny brought them together. They shared a passionate relationship and dreamed of building an amazing home on Long Island, and both contributed—Mark with his contracting business and Rebecca as a successful pharmaceutical sales representative.

Nearly 20 years later their marriage has weathered some serious ups and downs. When Mark lost his job it put a strain on their relationship, and Rebecca found herself more and more in the throes of an opioid addiction—an easy thing to feed when you sell pharmaceuticals. Mark had an affair, and it doesn't take too long for his mistress to want more than he is willing to give her—and that doesn't make her happy. As she grows more unhinged, it threatens to topple Mark and Rebecca's marriage for good, not to mention put them in danger.

"Had we really gotten so far away from each other that I'd stopped looking, and Paul knew I had? Time had passed in the intangible way that it does when you aren't paying attention. I didn't see the tether fraying to such a precarious degree."

When Rebecca discovers Mark's plans for a new life, plans that he hasn't shared with her, she is, at turns, hurt, nervous, worried, and angry. As she becomes more and more dependent on a mixed cocktail of drugs, and her supply dwindles, she can't always think clearly, but she starts to formulate plans of her own, and figure out how to make her husband pay for his betrayal. But there are other elements in play, elements that neither of them can expect.

Whenever I read a thriller, I'm automatically suspicious of everyone and everything. A character comes on the scene, I immediately craft ways they could be responsible. So while that habit is a bit distracting at times, it also takes a lot to surprise me. E.G. Scott definitely kept me guessing in places, and my suspicions weren't always correct. There was one major twist that was surprising, but at the same time I found myself exclaiming, "Really?" (Suspension of disbelief necessary.)

The Woman Inside starts out being narrated by Paul and Rebecca, shifting between the present and their past (everything from the beginning of their relationship to crucial events a few days or weeks earlier), but then Scott opens the narration up to several other characters. I think I would have preferred seeing the story only through their eyes—I found one character fairly one-dimensional, and didn't really enjoy their perspectives even as they were revealing twists.

E.G. Scott is the pseudonym for two writers. They've got a lot of talent between them, and I thought that having Rebecca narrate part of the story while she's in the midst of a drug addiction and dealing with cravings and withdrawals was a great plot device, since she's an entirely different kind of unreliable narrator. Even if I didn't love it, The Woman Inside definitely kept me hooked, and it kept me guessing, so it did a pretty good job.

Thriller fans, you might want to pick this one up! Buddy read with Andrew.

What a wild thriller! Full of deeply disturbed characters that bring new meaning to the words HOT MESS!

A book chocked full of disturbed people doing despicable things! Adultery, addiction, dishonesty, lying, stealing,stalking.... seriously, what’s not to love? If you are someone who needs to like or relate to the characters in your books this probably isn’t the one for you, BUT if you like to watch things fall apart and people self-destruct this is thriller perfection! It’s kind of like reality television, it’s not like you think these people are upstanding citizens doing amazing things, but they are entertaining people that are just a little south of crazy and you can’t wait to see what they do next!

Rebecca and Paul have been happily married (or so they think) for 20 years... but now Paul is having an affair and Rebecca has a serious opioid addiction, and that’s just the beginning.... these two truly deserve each other they are both extremely selfish, self-absorbed, and manipulative... however when Paul breaks things off with his mistress Sheila, this couple may have met their match... sheila is definitely the type of woman that will boil your rabbit! Yikes just thinking about all the nonsense these characters got up to still makes me cringe a little, but in a good way! This book was just pure madness!

Along with these crazy characters came some pretty wild twists and turns... The story is told from multiple perspectives and from the then and now... my opinions of these characters changed at a rapid rate, I had no idea who was telling the truth or if anyone was ever telling the truth... The ending to the story was so fitting, although somebody really got away with....

A crazy thriller, characters you will love to hate, and enough twist and turns to satisfy any thriller lover! Absolutely recommend!

🎧🎧🎧 this audiobook was narrated by a full cast giving each character their own unique voice...this really enhanced the reading experience!

🎵🎵🎵 song running through my head! This song needs no explanation...

All around me are familiar faces
Worn out places, worn out faces
Bright and early for their daily races
Going nowhere, going nowhere
Their tears are filling up their glasses
No expression, no expression
Hide my head, I want to drown my sorrow
No tomorrow, no tomorrow
And I find it kinda funny, I find it kinda sad
The dreams in which I'm dying are the best I've ever had
I find it hard to tell you, I find it hard to take
When people run in circles it's a very very
Mad world, mad world
Children waiting for the day, they feel good
Happy birthday, happy birthday
Made to feel the way that every child should
Sit and listen, sit and listen
Went to school and I was very nervous
No one knew me, no one knew me
Hello teacher,…

You know what happens when you ASSUME something….

Well, unfortunately for the characters in this novel, none of them have learned that lesson!

Or that keeping secrets rarely works out well…

Rebecca and Paul have been married for 20 years, despite Paul’s infidelities and Rebecca’s addiction to the opiates she pedals as a pharmaceutical rep. But, now Rebecca has discovered that their joint savings account has been wiped out, and it appears to Rebecca that Paul may be ready to move on this time.

NOT SO FAST

Rebecca devises a plan of her own.
But, she may have met her match this time, in the other woman.

E.G. Scott is the pseudonym for two writers (Elizabeth Keenan and Greg Wands) screenplay writers and friends who have been collaborating on projects for over twenty years. I discovered their work when I listened to their sophomore novel, “In Case of Emergency” with a friend recovering from surgery. We really enjoyed that one and decided to listen to this one, their debut, next.

Although we didn’t enjoy it QUITE as much as their other novel-(it does get pretty OTT) I have to give props where props are due.

It has more twists than a 🥨 pretzel, and despite reading a lot of thrillers-I did not see them coming!

I wasn’t expecting THAT ending.

And, the last chapter…a CLEVER way to end the book.

Will we be listening to the third, expected this Summer? Absolutely!

After finishing this yesterday, my reaction was pretty much . . . .

The Woman Inside is the latest in a long line of domestic thrillers. This one features a pill addicted wife and a philandering husband. I had a laundry list of issues with it.

To begin with, the blurb tells too much so I’m thankful I didn’t read it before starting. I would have been bummed that the first big “twist” was pretty much spoiled on the back cover.

Next, the timehops. The wibbly-wobbly is used quite frequently in mysteries/thrillers and works okay for me about 50% of the time. However, in this book the time goes from waaaaaay before to immediately before to waaaaaay after to immediately after and everywhere in between with no indication exactly where you are until you read a few paragraphs and figure it out . . . .

Third, too many POVs. It’s one thing to follow the husband and wife. It’s another to follow them annnnnd a mistress annnnnnnnd a couple of police detectives . . . . .

Fourth, now I’m a gal who likes an unreliable narrator as much, if not more, than the next guy. Buuuuuuuuuuut, there’s a big difference between . . . .

And being unconscious so no one knows WTF is happening at all.

Then there’s the twists and turns. All I can say is . . . .

YMMV, but as a reader who picks up A LOT of thrillers, attempting to heave everything but the kitchen sink at me doesn't mean diddly. Nothing here was a surprise and I saw it all coming a mile and a half away. There's also a big difference between reading a book that owns how much it is over-the-top and is simply bringing the reader along for a crazy ride and one who tries to take itself seriously while being OTT.

I could have saved myself a lot of time and .gif hunting if curiosity would have got the better of me earlier and I had simply Googled these authors. An article about them in EW disclosed . . . .

Both authors are thriller junkies; they volleyed chapters back and forth, each taking on a POV. “Each chapter is in direct response to the one before, and throwing potential twists at each other. That really was fun,” Wands says. Adds Keenan: “The aim to shock and surprise with each chapter was very motivating. We got a little aggressive.”

Basically this was a game of trying to one-up the other. It didn’t work for me.

ARC provided by the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

The main issue I had with this book was it felt like the authors ( E.G. Scott is a pseudonym) concentrated so much on this twisted plot and forgot that there needs to be some compelling reason why the reader should be interested in what happens to the characters. I'm all for unlikable characters in books, but there has to be something about them that wants me to keep reading. The first 100 pages or so were a chore to get though because the characters felt so over-the-top, but eventually I at least became more interested in finding out what was going to happen.

Rebecca and Paul have been married for almost 20 years. She's addicted to opiates, and he has been having an affair. When Rebecca discovers Paul is inching his way out the door with their life savings, she develops a plan to get revenge. This book is full of deeply disturbed individuals and takes one crazy turn after another.

While this became more of a page-turner in the second half, my overall feeling is it's just an okay read. I give the authors credit for trying to come up with a plot that tries to catch readers off guard but unfortunately the book suffered greatly from poorly developed characters. I think this might be one of the rare instances that if the book were made into a movie, the film would have the potential to be better.

I won a free copy of this book in a giveaway but was under no obligation to post a review. All views expressed are my honest opinion.

Wow just wow! This book was so flipping wrong but right up my alley. I loved this book! My favorite kind of book is a dark, twisted, crazy thriller and this sure was one. I am mad at myself for not reading this sooner.

Most of the focus is on Paul and Rebecca's 20 year marriage and how it started to unravel. Rebecca is quite the interesting character. She is a pharmaceutical representative that likes to sample her products. Paul is a former home builder that is now a real estate agent. These two are quite the couple, actually a match made in heaven. They had secrets from each other, secrets with other people and secrets with each other. I probably gasped a million times at the shocking things these two did. The character development was amazing and they were the couple I loved to hate!

This is such a twisted read that I can't say much more without giving things away. I never saw these twists coming and they were not just thrown in there to throw you off, they were well executed and shocking.

Everyone involved in the book is not really likable but who cares, it made them all the more interesting. I found myself holding my breath during the last chapter because it was just that crazy.

All I can say is if you have not read this, you need to! I am hoping E.G. Scott has something in the works because I can't wait to read another by this great duo. As a nurse I am praying that Euphellis is purely fictional. Fingers crossed.

Thank you so much to E.G. Scott, Penguin Group and Netgalley for this fantastic book!

5☆ Suspenseful, Eerie, Impossible to Put Down!

Wow oh wow what a read!
The Woman Inside is a psychological thriller that at times made my hair stand on end.
Be prepared to be lured into a tangled web of deceit, a story of betrayal, secrets, lies, addiction, adultery, affairs, it's dangerous, thrilling, and the juicy lil twists wow didn't see them coming!

This is a compulsive story that will get under your skin, you won't want to put it down!

The story is told by Rebecca and her Husband Paul.
It takes a lil while to get your head around the story as it flips from past and present, but it's so worth it as you delve deeper into the turmoil.
I loved how Scott drip fed us juicy information and left us dangling until the next instalment.... loved it, very effective!

Just from reading the prologue I was excited, it doesn't give anything away but sets an eerie tone!

Rebecca and Paul were madly in love, married for 20+ years, but they each have deep dark secrets, they are keeping from each other!
Eeek I can't say anything without the potential of giving something juicy away.

Rebecca is addicted to medication, she did work in pharmaceutical industry but has just been sacked.
Paul's business is on the up again after a hard knock.
But when Rebecca goes to their joint account it's nearly all gone, and ALL the transactions made are from Paul!

Rebecca has to now figure out just why has their whole life savings gone and just what is he hiding!

Rebecca and Paul are really not likeable Characters, but who doesn't love to hate characters and then find they have a love hate relationship with them.
They are literally the perfect characters for this story.
Self absorbed, selfish, manipulate, untrustworthy, addictive personalities.
Rebecca's addiction made for an interesting spin, as you never quiet knew how to take her. You are well aware she's high but then eerie things happen then she doubts herself making the reader doubt her too, brilliantly written!

THE WOMAN INSIDE is a Taut, Compulsive & Atmospheric read that will get under your skin.
It's a pacy read that sends you on a rollercoaster as you try to work out what's going on.
There are plenty of juicy twists to keep you guessing.
Each chapter draws you in, as you become further embroiled into their seedy and murky relationship.
The writing flows seamlessly between characters past and present. I am still amazed that this was written by two Authors co writing. It's flawless, you would never know!

I just want to say there are some sexual encounters which some readers may find difficult, but it does add ambience to the story and isn't too explicit.

I would love to see The Woman Inside made into a thriller film, it would be perfect.
It has the right amount of suspense and tension to get viewers hooked.

There are some amazing Thrillers already this year, and I'm adding The Woman Inside at the top!

Would I recommend reading this intoxicating Thriller?...... without a doubt....Yes!!

Thank you to Trapeze Books for this copy which I reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

E.G. Scott is a psuedonym for two writers, one in publishing and one is a screenwriter—and I am in love with both of them! The Woman Inside is a fabulously flawed domestic thriller with original twists and turns, while taking on real issues that our society faces today. Rebecca and Paul appear to have the perfect life—with great careers, and a beautiful home on Long Island where real estate is power and success. Behind this flawless image, is a flawed and broken relationship that is hidden in secret. Rebecca has an opioid addiction that has taken a life of its own, while Paul has lost his job and began an extramarital affair with one of their neighbors. As Paul's affair begins to unravel, he begins to realize that it's not as hot, steamy, and validating as he thought it would be. As Paul begins to set things right, Rebecca is ready to let go. The duo begin to banter back and forth, both emotionally and psychologically, in order to gain the ultimate power—freedom.

This book was so unexpected, folks. I saw a lot of mixed reviews on here, but I jumped at the chance to read this book because: a) the cover is gorgeous (I am superficial, judge all you want!); b) the setting takes place on Long Island, where I grew up; c) it seemed like it would be full of mystery and suspense. The Woman Inside is more than just a mystery/domestic thriller because it also shows the reality in the world we are living. The United States's opioid epidemic is destroying families across the country and I have yet to read a book that reflects that issue. Sure, we have a ton of unreliable narrators who have drinking problems, but that feat has been shown time and time again. This time, we have a bird's eye view on how opioids can hurt anyone- rich, poor, no matter your color, or gender. In fact, after reading this novel, I begin researching more about this on National Institute of Drug Abuse to learn more. This is the first time that a book has gotten me to venture that far into reality once I've finished reading it.

The Woman Inside not only grabbed my attention with their discussion about opioid abuse, but it also had a lot of unexpected twists and turns. This novel didn't throw random twists or red herrings out there for you to lose sight of what's happening, but each clue was part of a bigger puzzle. A puzzle that I effectively did not figure out and was shocked when it came to an end. I do think that this book will polarize readers on two different sides—one side with devoted fans, and another side of bitter enemies. This book will be left up for discussion, and I can't wait to be part of that.

Thank you Dutton Books for my advanced copy in exchange for an honest review. The Woman Inside will be released January 22, 2019.

4.25⭐
Genre ~ domestic thriller
Setting ~ Long Island, NY
Publication date ~ January 22, 2019
Est Page Count ~ 325 (p+ 58 chapters +e)
Audio length ~ 11 hours 12 minutes
Narrators ~ George Newbern, Nicol Zanzarella, Mike Chamberlain, Will Damron
POV ~ multiple 1st
Featuring ~ 3 parts, before, after and now timelines, infidelity, drug abuse

In part 1 we only hear from Paul & Rebecca during their marriage. He’s cheating and she’s a pill popper.

Part 2 gives us some POV’s of the detectives Wolcott & Silvestri.

In part 3 we meet Sheila. Her first sentence is “The best thing about being dead is that nobody suspects you when the bodies start turning up.” Oooh, intriguing.

No, it’s not a new plot by any means, but I found it to be very twisty and really enjoyed it. The back and forth with the timelines is a bit overdone, but all in all I liked it.

Narration notes:
I did not listen to this one, but am just giving the info above for reference. I’m happy to see there are multiple, so I bet it was a great listen.

The story is role from Paul and Rebecca's point of view and flips back and forth. They are both untrustworthy characters, Paul cheats on Rebecca and she pops pills. They both have had difficult past s. The first part of the book I found quite confusing. There are several twists and turns. The characters are all so unreliable that it's hard to decide just who is telling the truth. The story definitely got better the further you read and there was a jaw dropping moment.

Infidelity and an opioid addiction - sounds like a recipe for... disaster! If you date a married man, end up marrying him and find out he's cheating on you, are you really that surprised? What happens when the woman he's having an affair with turns out to be crazier than you? Is it the opioids that are driving you mad or are things really as fucked up as they appear?

The first part of this book had me turning pages like a madwoman. They got me, hook, line and pill popping! Look, the only characters with any redeeming qualities are the detectives.. and even they have their own issues (though I did like their banter a lot). From the various perspectives that we get, we see that no one is in their right mind and things are just going to get crazier by the minute.

This is a highly addictive read. Prepare to suspend some belief, grab a hammer and pound away at this book. I did think it went a teeny bit overboard at the end... but it was also extremely fitting considering the level of insanity that this book contains. Personally, I love it. Give me crazy. Give me unpredictability. Let me ride the insanity carousel.

Side note: While I'm happy to see the trend of "if you love Gone Girl or Girl on a Train you'll love this" them going away, I'm getting a bit exhausted of seeing "an unputdownable" or "impossible-to-put-down" thriller in the tag lines for thrillers these days. 🤷

If you want to see just how crazy can get, if you need a reason to not cheat on your partner, not pop pills or to put your hammers away, well, get in on this. Welcome to the world of Paul and Rebecca. Buckle yourself in, this crazy is a bumpy ride!

Thank you Dutton for this copy!

One sentence summary
The Woman Inside is intense, suspenseful and has one of the most shocking twists I’ve ever read!

My thoughts
I love when a book surprises you with something totally unexpected you have to stop and take a minute to process what you just read. That was this book! Once I hit that unpredictable twist, I couldn’t finish this book fast enough.

This is another book that wasn’t what I expected. I thought the description was a little misleading...and was prepared for a typical domestic thriller. That was not the case. Yes, there is infidelity, lying, and murder...and the characters are mostly unlikable...but there is more to the story. Highly recommend!

My Rating: 4.5 ⭐️’s

Book Description
Rebecca didn’t know love was possible until she met Paul, a successful, dashing, married man with a past as dark as her own. Their pain drew them together with an irresistible magnetism; they sensed that they were each other’s perfect (and perhaps only) match.

But twenty years later, Paul and Rebecca are drowning as the damage and secrets that ignited their love begin to consume their marriage. They are both cheating on each other, but Paul’s affairs get messy, and fast. His first mistress is stalking them with growing audacity when Rebecca discovers Paul’s elaborate plan to build a new life without her. And though Rebecca is spiraling into an opiate addiction, it doesn’t stop her from coming up with a devious plot of her own, and this one could end absolutely everything.

What follows is an unpredictable and stylish game of cat-and-mouse—a shocking tale of unfaithfulness and unreliability that will keep you racing until the final shocking twist and wondering how much you know your spouse.

You know I am never keen on reviews/blurb that starts ‘for fans of....’ simply because it got to being over used about a couple of books, one being ‘Gone Girl’........however this book, from the off, reminded me of it, so for once am saying it!!

As I was reading this and getting to grips with the various going’s on I wrote down ‘ a story saturated with layers of deceit, double deceit, quad crossing! and lies
And it really is
From the off Rebecca and Paul ( in their narrative ) describe a marriage and life that would exhaust most of us, their distrust and manipulation of each other is unbelievable, yet, so is their fierce and passionate love!
There is murder, affairs, plotting and wheedling on a scale hard to find in many stories and all done in a haze of prescription and non prescription drugs ( Rebecca works for a Pharmam company and takes them as easily as I would take a biscuit😃 )
The story ultimately winds up with Rebecca being so jealous and so insecure she misreads a few things she stumbles on and so starts a catastrophic set of events that dont stop until the final chapter with its chilling end!
Character wise, its impossible to like the leads but you aren’t meant to and thats half the fun, nothing like a good dose of righteous indignation, the other characters that feature are equally as demonstrative, cold and unloveable
The writing is sharp, focused and unapologetically raw
I am not surprised to read filming for this ( I think series rather than film ) has already been given the go ahead
A strong book, I wouldnt say my favourite this year but one of those I could talk about the most

Paul and Rebecca have been married for twenty years. Their marriage has hit a rocky patch, and both of them are keeping secrets.

Told with the alternating viewpoints of Paul and Rebecca. Rebecca is addicted to opiates, making her somewhat unreliable as a narrator. Paul has secrets of his own, including an affair that doesn't end well. Two manipulative characters that were so unlikable it was hard to care too much with how things turned out for them.

This novel has two main points of view, but also includes a few other POV as the story progresses. The combination of multiple POVs and timelines (before, after, and now) made for a convoluted read. I enjoyed the twistiness of this domestic thriller, but it was not as intriguing as other recent novels.

Crazy mistress. Drug addicted wife. Suspicious husband. A fast-paced and entertaining thriller.

The Woman Inside is a fast, easy book to get through. On the downside, it reads like a really bad novelization of a limited Netflix/Hulu/AMC/etc. series that I would probably enjoy.

So--and I can't believe I'm saying this--wait for the tv show instead.

3.5 Stars for this one. I'd like to say it's very clever and that I was completely shocked by the reveal but absolutely not. I saw everything coming well ahead of time and this just seemed like another attempt at a thriller from a new writer. It's one of those books that is average, maybe moderately entertaining, but nothing special and I probably won't remember it in a few months :-(

Wow!! The Woman Inside has everything for me murder, cheating, pill addiction, lies and so much more. Rebecca and Paul seem to have it all ,perfect marriage great jobs or do they? Paul is cheating on Rebecca after his construction company goes bankrupt, but is it really a surprise since he cheated on his first wife with Rebecca before Rebecca and him married each other? Rebecca is a pharmaceutical rep who has now has a pill addiction and cannot make it through the day without popping multiple different pills which causes her to start being paranoid . This book bounces between Paul and Rebecca’s point of view and past and present. When Paul’s breaks things off with his Mistress Sheila she begins to stalk Paul and Rebecca with aggression and in so many different terrifying ways to make sure Paul pays for making her fall in love with him. Until one night they experience something that shakes there already downward relationship to the core a “killer” reconnection if you will .. is it something they need to cover up no matter what cost, will it bring them closer or further apart ? When Rebecca’s bosses wife goes missing detectives start poking their noses into her fragile life Rebecca’s growing paranoia starts growing and Paul and her need to make sure the detectives don’t uncover their secret while they investigate. I would say 2/3 of the book is Paul sneaking around and Rebecca is high on her pills and she’s a very unreliable narrator. I truly enjoyed the fact that in the book your so focused on one event that when you finally reach a certain part of the book you will not believe the sudden twist!! It shook me and my jaw hit the ground and I had to pick it up and quickly turn the page . My feelings kept changing towards different characters. I truly enjoyed this book and highly recommend for a twisty psychological read! Five stars!!

Wow. At 36% done on audio, me, my hot flash and headache decided to check Goodreads to see if this got better. No. Not according to most. With SEVEN MORE HOURS of this convoluted mess to go, I hereby tender my resignation and DNF for my own sanity.

Implausible, unlikeable characters, and not worth the time.

4.5/5

What is it about a pair of unreliable narrators that makes a book so compulsively readable for me? If it’s executed properly I absolutely cannot put a book full of unreliability down and this one was executed to perfection for me!

This is told primarily from both Rebecca and Paul’s perspectives and flips back and forth between them as well as Before, After and Now. You don’t know exactly what event happened to divide things into a before and after, but you damn sure want to find out! Rebecca has a major pill popping problem and Paul is a cheater so they’re both incredibly untrustworthy. I didn’t quite believe either of their stories but you know the truth is in there somewhere, and trying to figure that out was such fun for me.

This one had tons of marital drama, my favorite kind of entertainment and there were seriously some twisted moments in Paul and Rebecca’s marriage. There were also some killer twists that I didn’t see coming at all, this one held my attention throughout and though the ending was a bit over the top and dramatic, I loved it!

The Woman Inside in three words: Slick, Dramatic and Deceptive.

The Woman Inside came highly recommended as a psychological thriller with a wild ending. The book was about Rebecca and Paul, the seemingly perfect couple. They both have their faults, and twenty years after they got married they are drowning in secrets and lies. Rebecca has a pill addiction she can’t quit and Paul has cheated…a few times. When Rebecca finds out Paul’s plan to start over without her, she can’t let him go without a fight. Then one of Paul’s mistresses becomes dangerous and a simple game of cat and mouse becomes a lot more dangerous.

Thoughts: This book had such a fun premise. The characters were all flawed and unlikable, but they were interesting and I couldn’t stop reading. This book is absolutely chaotic and the multiple perspectives make the story dynamic and layered. The narrators are all unreliable and misleading and there are so many things going on that the story could have gone in so many different directions. There were breadcrumbs throughout the story leading to a complex and unique ending.

I knew where this story was going and found most of the twists fairly obvious. I think the author did a good job, but the ending was very transparent and I knew the story was going there long before I reached the end. I enjoyed the perspective on the opioid crisis and the points the author made about it affecting anyone and everyone. The story was dramatic and interesting, but predictable and straightforward. 3.5 stars!

Thanks to the publisher for this copy in exchange for my honest opinion. This was pretty crazy. A domestic thriller, a game of cat and mouse between Rebecca and her husband Paul. I didn't know what to expect next with this one. And the ending was totally unexpected. Definitely recommend you read it if you like domestic thrillers

Dis-claimer: I didn't finish the book.

The main characters were so unlikable and annoying that I didn't want to spend more time with them. I've loved other novels where I haven't liked the central protagonists so it's not crucial for me. Something about the people in THIS book... It wasn't for me.

The Woman Inside is one of those twisted and unpredictable reads that leaves you wondering what to believe and who to trust. Told from the viewpoints of husband and wife, Paul and Rebecca, their previously happy(ish) marriage of almost 20 years appears to have hit the buffers. Rebecca is heavily addicted to opiates and her habit of sampling too much of the company’s stock in her job as a pharmaceutical rep sees her career crashing around her. When she then discovers that her husband Paul has been deceiving her, her life really goes into freefall.

I do love an unreliable narrator and here we have two. Neither Paul nor Rebecca appear to have any redeeming qualities whatsoever and to be honest for much of the book, I found it hard to care about either of them. I was however very intrigued as who was the biggest liar and who was the most dangerous of the two.

They are both damaged people, who have suffered similar background experiences which has in the past been their shared bond. However they seem to be pulling apart and the more distant Paul becomes, the more Rebecca relies on her pills which makes her behaviour even more erratic. It was hard to tell whether she really was being truthful about things she thought were happening or whether the pills were making her paranoid and hallucinating.

This is quite a slow burner of a book initially until the investigations into the missing women intensify and the level of deceit becomes clear. Then the story begins to accelerate in pace and become really twisted and unpredictable.

The two Detectives, Silvestri and Wolcott were great. I thought their wisecracking but thoughtful personalities were an inspired addition and bought some much needed humour to the story to balance out the intense and increasingly dark storyline.

It did take me a while to get into the story; it goes back and forth from the present day to when Paul and Rebecca first met. It was clear that there was always something a bit edgy about them but fate and some bad choices have conspired to put them where they are today. I’m glad that I carried on reading as I was rewarded with a complex story leading to a jaw dropping conclusion that I never would have expected.

If you enjoy a suspenseful story with unlikeable characters, deceit, betrayal, lies and even more lies then The Woman Inside should be on your book pile!

It was a ok read. I kept losing interest at the story line. Rebecca was a lose cannon. She was a pill popping and delusional person. Paul was a shady and liar. Sheila was a crazy person.
