Before dawn the next morning, Marlow House’s celebrity guest, mystery author Hillary Hemingway, is busy writing about the crime for her upcoming novel—including details that only the real killer would know.
Another great book in this series! Walt and Danielle are such lovely characters. The rest of the gang are at it again too. :) On to the next one in this series.
These books are poorly written, the dialogue is unrealistic and the characters silly; nevertheless, I keep reading them. The usual cozy tropes - no language, sexual idiocy, violence free -but the characters are mildly appealing, especially Walt the ghost. And as an animal lover, I enjoy Sadie and Max. The pull of these books is the real mystery.
4.5 Stars... When one of the most disliked women in the small town of Fredericksport is murdered, the suspects run amok... When Danielle's murder mystery author client seems to know all the details of the murder for her next bestseller, things get complicated... Danielle, Walt, Lilly, Ian and crew are on the case to solve both mysteries and hopefully bring the murderer to justice... However, even with one murderer captured, another may be just out of reach:)
Once again I am loving this series. I have yet to be disappointed. I love how more people are being put into the storyline. Love Marie, Adam's grandma and Walt. I also would love to see Chris and Danielle come together.
The Ghost and the Mystery Writer (Haunting Danielle book 9) by Bobbi Holmes ⭐️⭐️⭐️ It was ok. Neutral feeling * I have to say this was my least favorite of this series so far. The murder in this story was a little too easy to figure out from the reader’s perspective. I think I’ve said this before, maybe this is a common thing in cozy reads but I’d like to hope not, this author’s writing style is very repetitive and overly descriptive of mundane things. I think of my mom’s soap operas. They are so that if you miss a day, it’s ok because they repeat the same information the next day. In these books, sometimes you get a revealed piece of information, but if you put the book down for the night and forget it by the next day, it’s ok because the information will be revealed again to a different character in the next chapter. I would like to know more about visual details of Marlow House, or Frederickport, or the pier. I want more descriptions of important things. Instead, we get too many details about things like “he took a sip of his coffee, then sipped again, while waiting for her to respond.” I will say that as much as the murder in this book was easy to figure out, it was also the murder of a character that you just love to hate because she was so nasty to Danielle. Also, the real mystery is how the mystery writer knew what happened if she didn’t do it and she wasn’t a witness. This book left a proper cliffhanger. I’m already 9 books into this series. I’m drawn in by the concept of what’s happening, I just struggle with the writing style. (for my followers, isn’t this a common theme…) * #mystery #cozymystery #cozyread #paranormalmystery #oregoncoast #ghoststory #hauntingdanielle #bobbiholmes
Really enjoy the ghost stories. This one contains an evil ghost who was the “muse” for a mystery writer. Hillary was taken to murder scenes by Anton Paul over the course of the last 10 years. She wrote her books based on these visits. Walt saw over her shoulder, as she wrote, the description of a murder before it was discovered by the police. She became a suspect, but she was the first for the police to go through. Turns out Jolene was blackmailing her murderer because she knew his late wife’s will was a fake and he should not have inherited her fortune. The ghost busters set things right and saved Jolene’s daughter from the murderer.

I absolutely love this series, it's so entertaining to read and follow along with all the characters from one to the next book. This one made me frustrated a few times with the secrets and details kept from one another! I loved it and am so excited to jump right into the next book!
4 stars (Audible). Finally becoming a sought after cozy mystery. I have questions about why/how this ghost doesn't interact with the MC...because there's so much conflict between them? Intro to the "muse".
This one ended up being one of the best books of the series. At first I thought I figured out who done it but boy was I wrong. Another great one in a great series.
These books are just cozy and quick listens for me on audible. I like the books well enough. I like having something that I can listen too while doing random things that keep me entertained and not too thought provoking.
So far, every book has been better than the previous, which is unusual. Most of us look forward to a sequel, but don't expect it to be better than the first. This series seems to be the exception for me.
In the previous year, Danielle Boatman has lost her husband, but found he was cheating on her. The pain of this betrayal has her selling the company they started and looking for a new start. It doesn't help that she can see ghosts who haven't moved on. However, she finds her new start in an unexpected inheritance from a Great Aunt by marriage, The Marlowe House. But Marlowe house comes with secrets and the town, a wide variety of characters. The main character is Walt Marlow, a Ghost, excuse me, a spirit (Walt does not like the term ghost) who died in his own attic at the age of 25. He has decided he doesn't want to "move on" to the next part of his journey. There's a touch of romance in the air, but where can a Spirit and a live woman's relationship go?
Danielle came to Marlowe House to start over. And she has. There are new friends, a ghost in residence (Walt Marlowe), and a place where she feels at home; she has even helped reunite lost siblings. But there have been set backs. Her cousin was murdered, her best friend nearly dies, and the local police wonder why she keeps finding herself in the middle of all these murders. Then, a man Danielle hated is murdered in her home.
When a well-known author comes to Marlowe House hoping to break her writer's block, she begins writing about some grizzly murders. Problem? You bet. It becomes clear that the murders are real, but how can the writer know? Soon, the police are looking into the writer's past and are beginning to think she may be involved, but Danielle and Walt don't think she has anything to do with the murders. If she doesn't, who is feeding her the stories? Is there a new and dangerous ghost? Danielle must find out before another murder happens.
I found the first of this series on Libby. Having finished book one I couldn’t stop and finished the series just three weeks later. This is just the kind of series I’ve always enjoyed and on my second round I’m enjoying it just as much. Danielle has such a fun life, and whilst she puts herself in danger regularly her spirit friends are the perfect. This book focused a lot on Heather and Bryan and it was great to learn a whole lot more about them as individuals.
If you want lighthearted ghostly fun, with a cast list who become not dis-similar to a group of best friends, this is definitely the series for you.
A fun read. As always, it's surprising how many murders happen in this small town, pretty soon we'll run out of people, but I guess all these job vacancies will bring in new characters. It's also fun how the new characters overlap in regards to who knows who and how. I look forward to reading the rest of the series.
What was that ending.. What the 😱😳😱... I'm so shocked and also freaking excited for the next book... I mean... (screaming here) who was that spirit and how does he know Danielle... What is happening.
Romy Norlindger you're my top favorite narrator now for especially mystery books. The way you have enacted each and every voice... Just freaking love it.
We have this new mystery writer staying at the Marlow house and somehow the plot of her new thriller book coincides exactly with the events of the recent happenings of a new crime that's happened.
The best part, actually the part that makes it all the more interesting is that there are so many suspects and with each new person, my guesses were also changing as the motives are strong and the victim wasn't exactly a favorite person or even liked.
Once again there's a wild chase and clues hidden being found that make no sense yet have significance and it's upto the Chief roping in his unofficial partner, Danielle and with the help of whatever spirits they can get to help them, to find the culprit before it's too late.
This series is the most brilliantly written mystery ride because of how it grabs you with each freaking book with a new plot that's so convulated that you will never be able to guess who the real culprit might be behind it all and this is what keeps me on my toes and keeps me coming back for more, with how freaking engrossing this mysteries are.
New entries to the town thickens the plot as the needle of suspicion is tossed left and right and oh my ghosh, I was like it could be this one, one minute and no it can be that one, the next.
We also see some difference in Walt's behavior after what happened at the end of the previous book as he encourages Danielle to be with Chris as they can have a future together that Walt can never have with Danielle.
Honestly, I'm not exactly a fan of Team Chris as Walt will always be my favorite but ahhh.... Walt and Danielle just can't have a future together so it's just frustrating watching the most unique and beautiful relationship and knowing that nothing can happen there. But still I have faith in our author that something wild might happen there.
I loved that scene with the chief's young son and Walt as it was just so sweet and cute. Chief is certainly making me love him with how he supports Danielle and understands in the first place what no one does.
Then there's that ending... I mean... WHAT THE FREAKING HECK.... I actually gasped with the twist we get at the very end and it certainly is a very genius move on our author's part to give us that crazy tease. I couldn't believe the turn that happens and I'm literally jumping with excitement wanting to start the next one to see what happens next.
I'm seriously devouring this series and can't wait to dive into the next one. Loved loved this one.♥️♥️♥️♥️
Ninth in this series, and I have listened to them all on audible. At the moment I write this, all of them up to this one and at least the next one are included with and Audible subscription so if some start needing paid credits, my method of enjoying them may change. That has nothing to do with the book, just a little extra piece of information.
Danielle is the owner of a B&B that was originally her great aunt's home she inherited in a small seaside town in Oregon. She is able to see and speak to spirits, some may not always realize they are dead. Not everyone else knows about it, and there are times where she has to play around the fact. There are people she is close to that do know, and they accept it and help her out when needed to keep it a secret. In each book, there is a murder or a dead body that she ends up helping find out what happened due to her ability to communicate with the other side.
The books are fun, there is good banter, and some romance, perfect equation for a cozy mystery. I am going to keep reading the series, there are a lot, and if you decide to read it, highly recommend reading in order as there are backstories that build upon each other.
Each book in this series is equally as thrilling. I do recommend reading them in order, though, as the story line is a continuing one.
There is a murder (of course) of a woman on the beach and her body is found half buried in the sand. The police do not tell the public all the details. Ms. Hemingway, a mystery writer who is boarding at Danielle's Bed & Breakfast, has been in a "writer's block" but all of a sudden a story comes to her. It is Walt, the resident ghost, who comes to Danielle to tell her that the new story is the exact account of the murder on the beach with details known only to the police. Could Ms. Hemingway, a rather elderly famous author, be the murderer? Or could she have been a witness, even though she claims that she was not.
Another great book. I think the author is getting better at coming up with stories, and thank goodness we seem to be done with the Earthbound Spirits saga. Except that the victim in this story was married to the partner of the ex-head of said "religion." Pretty soon everybody associated with them will be killed off and we won't have to hear about them anymore!
In this book, we are introduced to a couple of new guests who come to Marlowe House. One is a writer who is uncannily able to see in dreams exactly what happens in a murder, and then writes about it. Everyone thinks that she either actually witnessed the murder, WAS the murderer, or is crazy. Judging from the title of the next book, we are assured that she will be a part of the next story. What evil or gift lurks behind her uncanny ability?
Jolene Carmichael was nobody’s best friend! No one was sorry she was dead. That left a plethora of suspects! But what did the mystery writer who was staying at Marlow House have to do with the murder? Hillary Hemingway didn’t know Jolene - or did she? And how did she know all the details of Jolene’s murder, when she had an alibi - or did she? As the police work at solving the murder, new details emerge, muddying up the waters of the suspect pool. Will this murder go unsolved, or will Danielle and her paranormal friends figure it out?
The character pool in the town is growing as people move into town. There's something odd about the author staying at the B&B. I think Danielle and Lilly need to explain the ghosts to Ian. My favorite scene in this book is Evan and Walt. This is another exceptionally well written mystery. This one ends with a reveal that puts Danielle in extreme danger....just wait until you read it.
The new guest at Marlowe House is a mystery writer who seems to know more than she should about crimes that have happened in reality. Although her books are fiction, she has been accused of copying real life murders for her books. Is she really just that good or does she have a ghost or 20 whispering the details of the murders in her ear? This was a fun story. I love this series so of course I think you should read it too.
The town’s residents are all being killed soon there’s not going to be anyone left 😂😂😂😂 who isn’t a murderer. Don’t move there if you aren’t willing to be a victim or a murderer. Anyway, odious woman who is blackmailing several people, including the adulterous bank manager, is killed. Somehow a guest writes the murder scene perfectly, there’s several suspects and for once, Danielle is not being hauled in for questioning.
Oo secrets are coming out! How fun. I thought we were done with the cult but look at this, it’s allll connected. Super sad that Jolene died too. She seemed like a fun challenge. Lolz here i am again complaining about the cops. THEY NEVER LISTEN! Like clearly these people have been right more than once before. Listen to them!!!
Hot take that shouldn’t be a hot take. Stop making cops stupid. Like yea, it’s hella realistic but we already got a ghost. Let’s go for a home run baby!
After thinking the series had gone stale, this book kept me in it throughout the entire run. Perhaps it helps that the victim is a character I did not enjoy and they are now out of the storyline. Also, the bit at the end to bridge us to the next book piqued my interest like none of the others have before. I’m definitely looking forward to reading the next book.
