Do you like reading a little feistiness and love? Well then this is a book for you!! I personally think this book was one of the best books I have ever read, it was awesome! It defiantly hooked me in right away. I also liked it because the main characters go through many things that we do now in our teenage years. I could definitely think of people who can play those as soon as I finished the book. It wasn’t like the characters were being fake, because while I was reading there was a movie playing in my head of everything that was going on in the book. There where also parts in the book where I would burst out laughing because of he images that would come up in m y head. For example, when Cousin Shake was dancing with Melvin’s mom the picture that came up in my head was hilarious!! I recommend this book to anyone who wants to laugh and connect to a book that might be going through some things that you or a friend of yours is going through, and you want to see how other people react to those situations. Although I myself know that some ways that these characters reacted to some things where not the best way they could have reacted but, I mean if they didn’t react those ways the book wouldn’t have been as good as it came out to be.

The book Shortie Like Mine is about a girl named Seven who is the biggest girl in her clique and likes her friends boyfriend. Seven is also dealing with her faternal twin sister who is dating a street pharmasits and finds out something really surprising about her sister. Her friend Deeyah who is not only Sevens "friend" but is dating the guy she likes Josiah, but when Seven finds out Deeyah is messing around with Josiahs enemy she knows theres going to be trouble. Seven battles with relationship problems friendship problems and family issues while still going to school going to school as fashionable as ever.
I think this book is a text-to-text connection because just like in the book 16 Isn't Always Sweet Seven is great friends with Deeyah just like how Jordan is with Adrian. Jordan and Adrian just like Seven and Deeyah became enemies beacuse of a boy, and both Adrian and Deeyah will try to do whatever they can to ruin both Seven and Jordans life. The difference between Seven and Jordans situation is that Deeyah was dating Josiah but Adrian was living in some deluded fantasy where Warren her boyfriend of about two days woul want her back. Both Deeyah and Adrian are jealous of Jordan and Seven.
I gave this book 5 stars because I kept re-reading it over and over again like I did with Twilight. It has something hardly any books ever have, a teenage girl that isn't skinny but isn't an outcast and who still gets the popular boy. Which is what mainly hooked me in with the drama that this book has and different points that alot of books don't have it makes it amazing. It blew my mind away.

I read this book because , it sounded interesting and i thought the boy on the front page was cute.(: This book is realistic fiction.
The main character is a girl named Seven who is beautiful and dresses very well but, is considered a little over weight compared to the other girls she kicks it with. She, secretly has a crush on this big time basket ball player who is datting her friend but, once she starts to play him for his enemy seven allows the boy to mave a move. and, even though her friendship is ended . it all works out for the best because even though every one asumed he was only datting her to get back at her friend he ended up really falling for her and there were a couple times seven almost gave up because she somtimes thought she was a joke to him but , once he starts to prove he really does like her things work out. but, on top of this she has a twin sister who is datting the town thug and is really rebelious and never listens is getting seven introuble because shes always sneaking out and her moms always working so one day when her mom doesnt have to work she notices she not there and they go get here and she got mad cus she thought seven ratted her out.
i really liked this book it had lots of details and the ending was cute.

I choosed this book because it thought that it would be a good book and because i like all of the books have read by ni-ni simone so i thought that this book would be a good book for mo to read and because i read the back and it sounded interesting. The genre of this book is a non-fiction beacuse it is not a real story it was only invented. The setting of this book is at the main characters house and at prom and at the main characters boyfriends house and at school and at Josuas house. The description ofg the main cheracter is that she lives with her mom and her mom divorced of her dad wehn seh was little she has a sister that is pregnant and that the main character likes a guy that is popular so she thinks that he will never like her becuase everybody in the school loves him.The plot summary is that she is tring to talk to the guy that she likes and trying to conveince him that she is nice. Her sister was dating a guy way older than her that got her pragnant and he left her because he did not want to take care of the baby so her mom finds out that she is dating him and she is really mad.The main problemm is that the main character went to Joshuas house and he tried getting her to get into her bed with him but she diceided not to beause she said that she was too yound to have relationships with guys so she said no.And she got mad at him and he decided to get prom tickets to go with her so that she could forgev him and what he tried doing to her more than 1 time. The problem is resolved by him telling her that she was really sorry and that he really loved her and she said that she loved him too and they satarted dating again. My opinion of the book is that it was a good book beacuse it has many intersetning stuff on it and that it is really interesting to read for teenage girls.

Shortie Like Mine by Ni-Ni Simone was about a girl named Seven and how she went through trials and tribulations while in her Sophmore year in High school. The mood of this book made me feel excited but worried at the same time. I believe the author's purpose of writing this book was to reach out to teens who are going through relationship problems to tell them that things will work out fine in the end. The setting in thie book took place at Seven house and her school.Something symbolic in this book is the clothing. I say this because Seven believed that she had to always look nice in able to be recongized but in reality people were already noticing her. " You know how I do I have to stay fly." " How long have you been looking at me." I asked him" " A while now, ever since I saw you on the porch smiling." The conflict in this story is Man Vs. Self and Man Vs. Society. I know this because Seven had problems with her " weight" where as she thought she was to fat or overweight. " It's not easy begin the biggest in your group." This shows me that she has problems with her self. It would be Man Vs. Society because in the story she has problems with her frineds and family. I enjoyed reading this book the author really made it an interesting read!

I was excited about this one becuase of all the five star reviews. This book could have been a five star book becuase of all the directions the story could have went in, instead I feel like the story never really went anywhere. Nothing much happens to the main character other than minor drama with her friends, and to top it off the story ends abruptly as it begines. Beleive me the begining was abrupt, with so many names being dropped on the first few pages I was a bit confused at first.
I wish I could say I'm glad I read this, but I can't really say I regret reading it either. It was a fast read and good enough to keep my interest, but I really expected more. I'll probably give this author another try in the future as some books are not always the authors best work.

This book is AMAZING. It talks about a girl named Seven McKnight. She is to say to be the finest girl. In throughout her life people teased her about her weight but now she slimmed down because of her size. Her friend or so called friend is dating the man she wants to date. The funny thing was that she knew she liked him too. But as the story goes on Josiah(Seven's CRUSH) breaks up with her because he found out she waas talking to Dollah which is Josiah's nemesis. It all started off with there brothers. Josiah's older brother Ibn was Dollahs big brothers Best's best friend. It talked about how Ibn and Best decided to steal a car but when they were being chased by cops and the car spinned outta control Ibn died and Best is doing football years in jail for the murder of Ibn. Now as you can see this is why they are enemies like Seven says. Josiah really likes Seven and he gets at her at the game. I can go on but I don't want to spoil the good parts of this book. But it's a too read book because of how the book has its up and down but the situations in this book is DEEP especially for her sister Toi

I actually liuke this book. I thought this book was for girls but when I read it it interested me too make me come back and finish it. I remember the night I read this book I started reading at 10:00PM-1:10AM in the morning because this book was so amazing and so deep. Then I called Michelle A to tell her how amazing this book was =D. There asre some scenes that are like deep because Josiah tries to pressure Seven into sex but know's better so I give her props.

THis bOok was iLL.I liked this book because it caught my attention from the beginning. On the days we did independrnt reading i didnt want to stop reading but of course class was over. The main charcher is Seven because she is the one hwo goes through the most in the book.I rate this book as a 5 star book because it keeps a readers attention. This book is about a girl named Seven who goes throught alot of from her friends, her sister, her mother&father, and her boyfriend. The boy of her dreams Josiah is the hottest boy in school and she knows that he's going to be hers but she finds out he goes out with 1 of her friends. So through the story she trys to find a way to get him to be hers. This story has a lot of back-stabbing and heart breaking moments.I wish that they told us what happen to the father but other than that the author did a great job on this book so im going to be coming back to read some more of the books.

Seven is the thickest girl in her crew, and even her mother and cousin endearingly call her "Fat Mama". Seven lives with her mother, little brother, cousin, and wild child twin sister, Toi. Toi is constantly getting into trouble for staying out late with her much older boyfriend. Seven is looking for a guy to like her for more than the fact that she is "repping for the big girls". Seven has been crushing on her friend Deeyah's boyfriend since before he was Deeyah's boyfriend, and now that Deeyah is playing him with his enemy, all bets are off.
Shortie Like Mine is an honest portrayal of High School life. The beginning was a little slow, as the story went on, you realize there is more to the story than Seven's love life, which definitely makes it more interesting. Not sure if I would say it's a must read, but it wasn't bad either.

I LOVED THIS BOOK!. This one is the first one nd then goes If I Was Your Girl. Well this book is about a girl named Seven who has a twin named Toi. Seven is a thick girl with big hips and a nice body. She hangs out with a group of girls that are pretty skinny and thin which makes her feel uncomfotable at times. Her mom is very strict on them. Seven likes this popular boy from school and she wants to date him. So she sends alot of her time to impress him unil he's hers. Her sister Toi is always sneaking out to go see her boyfriend until she gets pregnant and her mom finds out. Toi's baby daddy Quamar, ends up n jail an doesn't want to have anything to do with the baby.

This book kept me interested and I felt as if I was apart of the book, so I understood everything. Seven is a very strong girl being confident in her self and weight , and always keeping positive vibes even in the worst moments and I was able to relate to a lot of parts of the book so I enjoyed it. I was happy when Toi realized Qua was no good and was never gone change and finally left him because she deserved something better, and Deeyah reminds me of someone I know, she stayed aiming to ruin Sevens life but wanting to call herself a "friend''. The book left me in suspense but overall I enjoyed it and even learned a few things.

This book was about a girl named seven. She felt like she needed to find the man of her dreams while being the thickest girl in her clique. As she found that man named Josiah who was the hottest baller in her school. At the mibble of the book Josiah and Seven had a rough relationship until Deeyah and her nasty attitube broke them up, but no worries Sevens family had something behind there sleves and brought them back together with family and friends.

Phew - I felt old reading this book. So much teenage slang! Even though the jargon was hard to understand, it made the book feel more authentic than it would have without it. I liked this book because it was funny- it even made me laugh out loud a couple times. It's an easy, quick read and all of my students who have read it really like it. I plan to buy the other book in the series.

I so wanted to love this book. I could not get passed the phony language. I don't know any young people who speak this way. Story was shallow and predictable.

Shortie Like Mine by NiNi Simone was a story that took place Newark. It involved young teens Seven and Josiah. Seven was your typical girl, she wore the hottest clothes, newest shoes, and had the cutest hairstyles. But Seven wasn’t small like any other girl. Seven was a big girl and her so called friend Deeyah made it her business to remind Seven that every chance she got. Yeah, Deeyah was her friend that didn’t stop her from talking down on Seven. Since Seven was a big girl, Deeyah thought it was funny to hook her up with a big guy by the name of Big Country! Seven wasn’t too fond of that and that was one of the reasons they stopped being friends. Deeyah thought she was all that because she was dating Josiah…Seven’s crush. Josiah was the coolest boy in school. He was a basketball player and had a lot of charm.

Deeyah caught Josiah flirting with Seven so she decided to go mess with Josiah’s enemy Dolla. Dolla and Josiah didn’t like each other because Josiah feels like Dolla’s brother was responsible for his brother dying. So when Deeyah did that and Josiah found out he cut all ties with her and ended up dating Seven. Little did the two know that they both have abandonment issues Josiah feels alone since his brother died and Seven feels alone ever since her dad left her mom to be with another lady along with another family. Seven didn’t have the best living situation after her dad left. Her twin sister Toi ended up getting pregnant, her mom worked the graveyard shift and her 60 year old uncle named Shake. Even though they both feared that they would be alone, the ended up being together.

Overall, the book was good. I would recommend it to teens. It was very entertaining because it also had humorous moments in the book. A few things I didn’t like was how Seven was only 16 but was getting into clubs and stuff with her friends. I also didn’t like how Toi was pregnant by an 18 year old drug dealer. But I did like how at the end of the story, Seven and Josiah ended up being together no matter their issues.

In the book Shortie Like Mine i thought the book was amazing. I literally could not stop reading it, so many interesting events would occur that it would make you want to not stop reading it until it was no more pages left to read. The main character of the story is a girl named seven who is known to be the "Thickest Girl" in her crowd at school. Seven has a lot on her mind due to recent events that has happened in her life. Seven doesn't know who she can trust besides her homegirl Shae, when it comes to her and seven they are no doubt ride or die for each other but it is a struggle for her to remain friends with shallow Deeyah and her hang ons Yaanah and Ki-Ki. The worst of it all is Deeyah ends up dating her crush she's had on for the longest, Josiah even though Deeyah ends up messing with Josiah's worst enemy.

Seven has other things going on in her life besides things with her and Josiah. Her parents just got recent divorce that seven or her twin sister Toi isn't taking so well. Even though both of them are not taking things lightly it makes it hard for seven to trust Josiah since they've been feeling each other. Deeyah tries her best to get in the way of seven and Josiah's relationship but they fall hard for each other. Her sister Toi gets involved with a street pharmacist who's no good for her and gets her into bad situations with her family and distracts her from school. what will Seven do?

When I was a teenager, I was heavily into fantasy. I can't say whether or not I would have given this a chance when I was 17 but I'm glad I gave it a chance in my 30's.

As I read this book, I came at it with the understanding of an auntie who is listening to a beloved niece explain their problems and the follies of their peers. When Seven would say that she wasn't a kid, I would vehemently disagree. If she were an actual niece of mine, I'd advise to focus on the self rather than worry what any young man had to think or say. I'm glad I read the book with this type of mindset. Because, in all honesty, I'm not the target audience. Seven and her friends make some not great decisions, have troubles that are long behind me, and some troubles that I know only too well.

This book does cover the subjects of sex, drugs, and addictions. I liked how the subjects were handled. The book is not explicit, however, even with those subjects getting covered.

The story is told in first person and I liked how Seven's personality shined. I'm usually not the biggest fan of first person because sometimes the personality of the narration falls flat. In this books case, you really got to know Seven through the narration.

I do wish there was more of a personality to Josiah. I felt like there was a bit lacking in who he is as a character. We got to see a little more of what makes him a unique person at the end of the book but I wished for a little bit more. I just didn't see what Seven saw in him. But that could also be because I'm old as dirt.

I’ve read this book a bunch of times over the years but this is my first time writing an actual review of it.

Seven is that girl and I do wish we got to touch on her insecurities a bit more and kind of see her overcome it a bit. A lot of times throughout the book she points out her insecurities, it would’ve been nice to see her overcome them a little. With that being said even though she has insecurities, she never forgets that she is in fact that girl.

Josiah is cool like he’s definitely not all that bad, but he definitely needed some kind of something..idk. He definitely had a big head and had too much dip on his chips, there was numerous times I ain’t know who tf he thought he was and who tf he thought he was talking to. He needed to be held responsible for every fucked up thing he said.

(Seven girl stop melting at everything this guy say)

Overall I love this book soooo much, and I can’t wait to finish rereading all Ni-Ni books ❤️

This is one of the books; I wanted to read but never gotten around to getting the book. So, the day I decided to visit the library to do my assignments for three of my classes, and I search the library website by login my information and found this book man I was hype because I got the chance to read at least book one for the "Shortie Like Mine" series. I wasn't disappointed at all when I was reading, but that friend of hers wasn't her friend, my parents always told my siblings and me you don't have friends, and I tell my younger siblings, that no one is your friend if they sit and talk about you. The main character girl was very insecure. And the author looks as though she may have a problem with skinner women, but hey I liked them any size so who cares. I tell my sister never to be ashamed of who you are.

3 stars! This was a fairly decent read, a great storyline. I loved the main character Seven and her development through the book. I almost put the book down due to the language of the book. It featured a lot of early 2000s teenage slang. It was a bit of a slow start for me but got better at the 50% mark. This book tackles real-life teen issues such as drugs, pregnancy, and relationships.

It was a good book when I was like 12, right now, not so much but a great deal of nostalgia when I reflect on this story. It also recommends songs at the beginning of the chapter so that's niceee.
