Monsters are real, and Hank Jensen has met some of the worst the multiverse has to offer. As a result, he bears the curse of a hateful, malignant god—a horrid disease that has disabled him.

Hank fought demons, dragons, and mythical beings to rescue his wife and son, but the battle left the family trapped in the realm of the Isir. As his dark curse continues to ravage his body, Hank, his family, and his Isir friends must travel to an ancient, faraway place—the Rooms of Ruin—to reopen the pathways that connect the two worlds.

But the Dark Queen isn’t done with them. She has issued only one command to her servants: drive the Jensen family into the trap she’s laid. That’s not all she has planned, though. She has a secret plan—someone she’s manipulated into betraying them.

Will they discover the traitor in time? How will they avoid the Dark Queen’s trap? What other dangers await them along their path?

This is a second book done right!

The first book did a great job, introducing us to the fantasy world and made it an easy thing to connect you with the references it made to other books such as the dark terror series and norse mythology.

Book 2 Reedy expanded on what was light out and book one and it became much more its own world. But that’s not to say that it is scrapped what was built up in book one. All that was learned in the first book was still very relevant and booked too, and it did a great job expanded on how things worked and use that groundwork to take into something unique and special for a book.

The elevation and character depth was amazing, and this book was easy to read through quickly despite its large size. And that climax! It was amazing. The end of the book was so packed but it was well balanced, not overdone just everything should be. I’m really excited to start the third book and see how things end.

Listen up everyone!  The recipe for today is you take one debilitated cop and mix him with powerful gods, malevolent beings, terrifying dragons and deadly shapeshifters.  You then sprinkle in his wife and son and combine all these ingredients together into a different dimension.  Stir the concoction thoroughly and you will end up with one awesome story which takes epic fantasy writing to a whole new level!  There can be very little doubt that Rooms of Ruin by Erik Henry Vick is a wild ride which will engross and captivate readers everywhere!

Rooms of Ruin is Book 2 in the Blood of the Isir Series.  Essentially, the story focuses upon Hank, our New York cop, who finds himself trapped in a multiverse world and seeking to find a way home for his wife Jane, and their son Sig.  The only way to make this happen is to travel in this new world to the distant Rooms of Ruin.  It is here that the pathways which connect the two worlds can be restored and Hank can thus bring himself and his family back home.  If only it were that easy!

To bedevil matters, Hank must battle a curse which has burdened him with a devastating disease.  On top of this he must clash with his nemesis, the Dark Queen, who commands armies and all types of evil and deadly creatures.  They are tasked with one main objective…trap Hank Jensen and his family and ultimately destroy them!  Fortunately for the Jensens, they are not in this predicament alone.  They are in fact accompanied by a powerful and magical group of their own who are sworn to protect them and have even bestowed powers onto Hank and Jane.  It is a race against time as Hank and his crew scramble to escape the grasp of the Dark Queen and ultimately find their way home.  Can they succeed in their quest?  Or are they doomed to spend an eternity in a foreign and hostile land?

The theme of this novel is very clearly a good versus evil one.  However, to clearly illustrate and project this theme, the reader is taken on a wildly exciting fantasy adventure.  The story is full of battle scenes and non-stop action which is cleverly tied together by meaningful dialogue.  There are quite simply no “lulls’ in this epic novel.  The author also illustrates the unique depth of his imagination as the plot unfolds.  While there may be Norse mythological components to the story…do not be misled.  This is clearly Erik Henry Vick’s world!  It is his creation…and what a concoction it is!  I found myself stopping as I read to actually contemplate the level of creativity and imagination that this author possesses.

While the plot is captivating and engrossing, so are the many characters in the novel.  Other than Hank and his family, there are numerous other players such as Meuhlnir, Mothi, Sif, Veethar and Althyof.  Each has their own unique powers and they are developed in a very incremental and thorough fashion.  I had trouble at first keeping all the various characters straight in my own mind.  However, it was not long before that was no longer the case and I became deeply vested in their development and inevitable outcome.  As the story progressed, Althyof became on of my favorite characters, even though I actually had little use for him at first.  Other than their individual development and captivating powers, I found the humor and obvious caring which was shown between the different characters to be truly engaging.  They may have been magical and godlike in their own right…but they all revealed themselves to be uniquely human in many respects.

For me personally this novel has everything a reader could possibly hope for.  A captivating plot, imaginative and believable setting and fully developed, complex characters.  There are some violent scenes in this novel yet I believe it would be suitable for all adult readers.  Young and old alike!  I give it my highest recommendation!

5 out of 5 Godlike stars for this one!  *****

Book 1 introduced a phenomenal world of incredible characters and just a slight twist of mythology from the Viking age. The first one won me over as a fan but this second one.....this one took it to another level. I have read a few books in my time and it is not often the author can "one up" the story in the sequel. It generally acts like a gap filler for the most part and brings it all together in the third book (if it is trilogy). Erik Vick not only expanded his story but took it to another level. Thoroughly enjoy the banter between characters and the action is off the charts. The new view of the Norse myths is really incredible but be warned, just because it is a twist on the myths make them no less powerful. Think Stargate meets Norse Mythology but with a flare that is just flat awesome.

First and foremost, the biggest thing I love about this series is the way the author incorporates traditional Norse Mythology and then flips it right on its head!

As with the previous book, Alexander Cendese did an excellent job on the narration. He has a good assortment of voices, and is very skilled at manipulating tempo to match the tension at any given part of the story.

Easily forgiven (as it's so common) is his limited variety of feminine voices. My one real critique is about vocal inflections.

I don't mind when a narrator sometimes goes a different direction than the author intended with vocal qualities and inflections (audio is an adaptation, much like a movie, after all) but in the main they really should try to be true to the author's vision. And Alexander frequently ignores the descriptions given in the text.

Now, for the story.
After the epic scope of Errant Gods, I knew this book would be fighting an uphill battle to top it. And while I don't feel it did so, it has enough added character depth to more than make up for it.

Not that this book has a simple plot. Far from it. It is still suitably epic, with large scale battles, intrigue, and plots within plots galore.

It just doesn't quite top Errant Gods.

However, with the addition of Jane and Sig we get to see a whole other side of Hank that I can't help feeling is strongly influenced by the author's own life.

We get to see the playfulness, the joking, the loving banter of a family (and their new, mythological friends) that feels so real that at times it's almost like an intrusion into a real family's privacy.

I love the way the author has taken a very real, very debilitating illness and turned it into this fictional character who deals with his pain in such a frustratingly authentic way that I find myself wanting to reach over and smack some sense into him!

The progression of the story was a bit of a struggle to follow at times as there are so many things going on, many of them behind the scenes or only hinted at, but in the end everything makes sense as we come crashing into an epic finale.

Here I would just like to insert an opinion. I have very little fact to back this up, so please don't think I'm spoiling anything. But I'm beginning to suspect that Hank's character arc is going to end up fulfilling the myths to essentially turn him into Odin.

Now, to address the ending. There are some crazy, twisty things that finally come to fruition and end up leaving us with this amazingly epic ending and... I want the next book, dammit!

Okay, my temper tantrum is over.

Seriously though, we need the next book in audio.

Hank Jensen, his wife Jane and their son Stig, were at some time in the past, scooped up from their quiet life, at home in Western New York and transplanted into a weird and frightening multiverse, ruled over by the Dark Queen. Hank and his disparate group of followers and friends must somehow find a way home, whilst avoiding the infamous Dark Queen whose sole purpose seems to be to destroy the Jensen team, a group that includes her own sister. In this, Rooms of Ruin (Blood of the Isir Book 2) by Erik Henry Vick, they are searching for a way to the Rooms of Ruin, where it is possible they can restart the process that brought them to this place originally. The Dark Queen, however, will harry them every step of the way, with every conceivable trap, a traitor, and awful some horrifyingly gruesome creatures, under her control. Hank and his friends are in a race for their very lives.

There are #epicfantasy’s and there are #EPICFANTASY’S. Rooms of Ruin (Blood of the Isir Book 2) by Erik Henry Vick is definitely in the category of #EPICFANTASY both in terms of its length and its depth. I am not a big fantasy reader, but despite not having read the first book in this series, the author drew me in immediately and the six-fifty pages of this epic novel, just flew by. There is a little adjustment to be made, as a reader, not having read the first book, to try to come to terms with situational reality of the setting for this novel, but the warmth, the humanity and the subtle use of sarcasm and wit, by the author, just draws you in and keeps you reading. The fight scenes are violent and vivid, but for me, the best parts of this book are the dialogue between the members of the team, especially the interaction between the wives and their husbands; it had me chuckling continually, at the lines. The imagination of and the world created by the author has to be admired. I am always in awe of excellent fantasy authors and Vick is definitely in that category. I highly recommend this book and by association, this series.

Marooned far from home, will they ever get back? Allow a LONG weekend to read this part of the epic. I read an ARC and this voluntary review is my own opinion.

Fantastic follow up to the first book. A must read for Norse mythology fans (or any epic fantasy fan) The epic series continues and doesn’t slow down. Great world building, character depth & growth, mystery, love, humor, magic, weapons, an ongoing epic journey and of course mythic battles. In my top 3 favorite series of all time. Definitely re reading. Highly recommended.

Once again Erik Henry Vick has delivered. He has created his own unique world based on elements drawn from Norse and other mythos. The characters in his mythos are all very human. They all have flaws and weaknesses that make them unique and humanize them. Norse God, check. Treated with deference by his family, well, guess you have to read the series.

This is shaping up to be a very special series. His first novel in this series "Errant Gods" was the best novel I have read in the last 2 to 3 years. I read about a book a week so that is quite a few books. This novel is equally as good and shows every sign that the trend will continue. If so, that would put this series into the top five series I have ever read in fifty years of reading.

This is a story of an epic quest to end an ancient evil. Woven in with it is a long and deliciously conflicted back story since, after all, Gods live long lives, even when they're not truly Gods. The main character suffers from a curse which exhibits itself as the symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis. This is something that Erik knows about from real life and this weakness is what makes this character truly approachable. Yes, he is a hero but that doesn't mean that his life is a bed of roses. Killing a dragon might be tough, but so is getting out of bed in the morning.

That type of complexity shows up again and again. The situations are complex, it is not a brave knight and his crew showing up to battle a faceless all powerful evil, it is a flawed human leading a party of people with a long and conflicted history with those they oppose. And that is where this series becomes something very special. It's in the complexity of the situations, nothing is absolute, there are limitations on all the characters involved. Some of these are external, some are self imposed by the character's nature. This not just true of the main characters it includes the entire supporting cast. And that makes the characters and the world he creates far more enjoyable and believable than most novelists ever achieve.

Stop everything - your new favorite author is here!

In Rooms of Ruin, Book Two of The Blood of the Isir series, Erik Henry Vick continues the gripping tale he began in Errant Gods, the first of the series, building more and more tension and excitement as he does so. His sweeping imagination, his detailed and convincing world-building, his characters and the interplay among them, and his deft skill in writing and storytelling makes this series the most engaging reading I’ve enjoyed in many a year. I haven’t encountered a new author I’ve enjoyed so much since I first discovered Stephen King all those years ago, nor been enraptured by a series like this since the DT series. Set aside a day just to read this treasure - better yet, set aside two days and read Errant Gods first. When you’re done with them both, read his novella Wendigo for a refreshing dessert.

I cannot *wait* for Book Three -- but I guess I’ll have to.

Was more than I expected !

Usually, in trilogies, I find the middle book is like the hump of a bridge. It tends to just be a carry over to get to the thrilling end. It's like they tend to be on the slow side. Now after saying all of that this is certainly NOT the case here! I was completely held to the story and did not want to put it down. The dangers were unexpected and kept me turning those pages, even when my own personal monster raised its ugly head.

I know what it is like to deal with daily pain as I have fibromyalgia and neuropathy with a dash of.Seeing difficulties. Every day is a new challenge.

Overall these are the beginning of a great series, perhaps an epic fantasy fiction. I love the use of Norse mythology and his own twist for a very special world. I already have the next one download and ready to read.. Thank you for being on kindle unlimited for which I might never have found you.

Erik Henry Vick is a great writer. I have not read the first book in this series, so I was afraid I would spend half the book trying to find out who is who and what they did. However, By the first few pages in the second chapter I felt set to read the book without being lost. Erik Henry Vick is a awesome writer this book is just as good as his other books. It grabes your attention and keeps it. It has gods and creatures of Norse legend, rune-weaving, shape shifting and black magic. Read this book and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Rooms of Ruin, Erik Henry Vick's 2nd book in the Blood of the Isir series, keeps getting better and better! Erik's ability to create different worlds is unparalleled. The settings are imagitive. The creatures are frightful. The storyline continues to be fast-paced and unique, filled with adventure, danger, and unimaginable obstacles. The characters are endearing and well developed, most brought forth from book one. I hope he continues to write in this series!

The adventure continues with a lot of changes. Jane and Sig are along for the ride, Hal can’t fight the same as her started and there’s warning of betrayal. Mothi has Sig, Jane has Sif and Y. It feels like Hank and M have become slightly distant in this one, in favour of Althyof. Pretty easy to tell what’s going on but it’s fast paced, witty and enjoyable. Favourite character still Althyof. Favourite part of the book was the cave. Looking forward to the next one.

Compelling read

If Nordic myths and attitudes speak to you, then this series likely will too. Although I’m not aware of any Viking roots, those guys did get around. Anyway, the storyline, the characters and their interactions, and a bubble off plumb Viker AI made for a great read.
I’d recommend starting with Book 1, and am really looking forward to Hank and friends in Book 3.

I AM SO IN LOVE WITH THESE BOOKS AND HATE THE WAITING IN BETWEEN TO GET THE NEXT FIX.
THE CHARACTERS JUST KEEP DEVELOPING MORE AS THE STORY GOES ALONG. i FIND THE MAIN CHARACTER SO RELATABLE DUE TO HIS FLAWS AND THE LOVE HE HOLDS FOR HIS FAMILY.
THE WRITING IS JUST AMAZING AND I CAN'T SAY THAT ENOUGH ABOUT THIS AUTHOR.

This book takes off where Errant Gods ends. It is a rollercoaster of action, treachery, confusion, and we learn more about the characters in the story. Hank keeps dreaming and learning things. Jane develops new skills. Their 'crew' works well to fend off the denizens they meet. Will they triumph over Luka and Hel? Only time will tell. I really enjoyed this book. I can't wait to read 'Wild Hunt'.
