One body, two bodies, three bodies, four. Five bodies, six bodies, seven, and more.
When a murder victim’s mother hires Danyon and Peet to prove her daughter’s coven is to blame for her death, psychic Oona Goodlight and wizard Diego Adair are plunged into magic that is deeper and darker than either imagined.
Things get personal when Diego’s mentor mysteriously disappears and Diego vanishes soon after.
With the night of the Vulture Moon approaching and rumors of black magic rituals under that moon growing ever more persistent, Oona has to work fast before those dearest to her are the next victims.
If you like mystery and paranormal urban fantasy blended with a dash of romance, you’ll love this new series.

Alexes Razevich grew up in Orange County, California and San Francisco. She attended California State University San Francisco, earning a degree in creative writing. She is a former editor for Electronic Engineering Times and freelance writer. Her work has appeared in The Easy Reader, (winner, fiction contest) Ceramics Monthly, Rolling Stone, and several electronics industry specific publications.
What starts out as a fairly simple job – find out if a coven is responsible for a young witch’s death – grows quickly. One death becomes six. And the problems keep coming. Oona’s cousin comes to her for help with a crazy ex-girlfriend. Then Diego’s mentor is kidnapped. Finally, Deigo disappears as well. There isn’t a lot of peace and quiet in this book. Oona’s basically on her own looking into the problems with some help from Maurice (the talking rat), Jack from the magic police is an unwilling companion at times. It seems that the powers that be in the police don’t like Diego or his training of Oona. Besides Maurice, there are also warrior fairies – not quite what I imagined. Some different types of magic also appear. There is action, some humour, surprises, new characters and events. This was a fun, easy read and I’m looking forward to the next book in the series.
Family relationships can be a bitch as we see in this third installment of Oona Goodlight’s magical, detective adventures. She and Dee must discover why perfectly healthy people, both magical and non-magical, are dying suddenly for no apparent reason. When Dee’s mentor and his half-brother disappear, we learn more about Dee’s family. The bad thing is, Oona and Dee discover that someone is planning a human sacrifice on the night of the vulture moon to enhance their magical powers. When Dee also disappears, Oona is almost completely alone as she tries to save the missing men and discover who is behind the bloody plot, while at the same time trying to take care of her non-magical cousin.
I highly recommend this third book in the Oona Goodlight series. We learn more about their families and just how complicated familial relationships can be. And we’re drawn into Oona’s struggle to come to terms with the fact that she has magical talents she didn’t know she possessed.
I hope there's more to come for this series! Maybe Oona apprentice's to The Gate? More Maurice!!! I really like this universe and can't wait to read more from this author!
Read books 1 & 2, loved them, love this book 3 too. Can't wait for more! Strong, yet compassionate, vulnerable protagonist. Believable world built around ordins. Read this author's books for an enjoyable venture into a fantastical world existing in our ordinary reality.
Wow, I didn't see this plot twist coming-- a fast-paced read featuring two of my favorite protagonists, Dee and Oona. The storyline was layered and surprising, and the ending while not a cliffhanger, left me eager for the next book. This is such a wonderful series.
This is the third book in the series, and it was another great paranormal mystery, as exciting and well written as the previous two. If I thought the previous book was close to home, I was wrong, as this story could not be any closer and more personal. And as previously, nothing is as it seems. There are a lot of emotions, personal loss and betrayal in this book. This book was a proper roller coaster of events and emotions and I loved every minute of it. Again, there is a slight shift in the dynamics between Oona and Diego, due to all the private matters that floated to surface, and it is interesting how the author plotted that part of the story. The other part, the mystery, was my favourite so far, probably because it was so time sensitive and personal, unlike the previous two stories. Additionally, there was more participation by Maurice, who is my beloved favourite character in the series. The appearance of magic is growing as Oona becomes more apt with her spells and some other newly discovered traits, or skills. She also grows more weary of the consequences, as she realises what use of magic can result with. Oona is going through quite a bit of moral dilemmas in this book. The author did a fantastic job with everything, as usual. The characters, the world, the magic, the plot, they are all beautifully crafted and executed to perfection, with utmost consistency. This is a great series. I immediately started and finished the next book, that's how much I loved it. Although each book has an ending, they are best read in order as the more recent books might contain spoilers for the previous one, and there is the romance buildup. The reading order is: Ice-Cold Death (Oona Goodlight Book One), Barbed Wire Heart (Oona Goodlight #2), Vulture Moon (Oona Goodlight Book Three), and Chalice and Blade (Oona Goodlight Book Four).
Awesome. Things have been going well for her. Work was flowing and her relationship looked rock solid. Therefore being call in the early hours for a suspicious death was a bit of a wake up call. How did a healthy young woman suddenly drop down dead? Worse there are other similar unexplained deaths. When his mentor and brother go missing and then so does he, Oona is desperate. Can she find them? Who had taken them? Did the legends going round have any truth in them? Also she's now acting as babysitter for her cousin (whose ill fated love life is legendary). How will she end the current issues and will her relationship survive? A great read with well woven twists that have you guessing at the person behind the deaths and the missing men. The characters have grown with each subsequent book and their vulnerability is well woven.
Ok. Book number two is as good as the first, but don't just take my word for it. Borrow or buy your own and read it. A fun way to pass a few hours during a this time of tedium. Oona Goodlight is my current number one!
