About the author

Tiziano Sclavi is an Italian comic book and novel writer, who has also worked as a journalist. Sclavi is most famous for creating the Italian bestselling comic Dylan Dog, started in 1986 and still ongoing, a horror pastiche featuring a paranormal investigator. More than 450 monthly 90-pages long issues have appeared in the series, with Sclavi as the most recurrent script writer in the first decade of serialisation.

"...Dylan, listen..."
"Yes?"
"...nothing."

And in that 'nothing' there was everything. This is a love story. Not that kind of story that will make you swoon or sigh, because in this there's no happy ending. It's sad but honest, hurtful but tender and the emotions are so real. It's about regret. It's about a dream and a future lost forever. There's just this long goodbye. Then, realization and acceptance. Because there are things not meant to be, and you have to let them go.
What makes Marina, the female protagonist, so real and so relatable is the fact that she's just like any other girl who's insecure, afraid to confess her feelings.
This graphic novel is very different from all the other ones of Dylan Dog.

Un vecchio amore di Dylan bussa alla porta dell’indagatore dell’incubo, trascinandolo in un viaggio interiore alla riscoperta del proprio passato giovanile e di vecchi ardori sentimentali.
Il senso di follia del mondo ideato da Sclavi prende una piega molto diversa in questo episodio. L’ambientazione mescola la realtà al mondo dei sogni e dei ricordi, spezzando la sottile linea di demarcazione tra i due contesti. Resta inoltre aperta l’interpretazione della storia anche per lo stesso protagonista, il quale si domanda dell’effettiva concretezza di ciò che sta vivendo o se tutto è ambientato in una grossa allucinazione permeata di romanticismo..
Siamo di fronte ad una storia d’amore ancora aperta o ad un eterno sogno da cui Dylan ad un certo punto è costretto a svegliarsi, per poi affrontare la realtà? Gli interrogativi sono tanti. E, pur essendo stati eliminati quasi completamente gli aspetti grotteschi e comici tipici del fumetto, la vicenda è raccontata in maniera affascinante e surreale. Un episodio meraviglioso, che si colloca immediatamente di cattiveria tra i miei numeri preferiti. Da leggere e rileggere.

How many relations never had the chance to flourish because of things not said in the right moment? Because of fears. Because of doubts. Because pride didn't let us do the right thing in the right moment. Because we believe we have all the time in the world, until we don't.

Love is not that complex. We're the ones that complicate it with our sabotage minds and our selfish prides.

This story feels like an X-File episode if it was a romance. It is between a dream and memory.

Here, our Detective of Nightmares have to face one of his own nightmares and re-live an old romance that never got to be.

It was a great read but I still prefer a Dylan Dog with more nightmares and less romance.

Amazing and sad, I almost didn't finish it at a certain point. I didn't want to have my heart broken and still live in hope. I finished it and it was a real emotional experience and certain details in the story really got to me.

Mimo zachęcającej okładki i faktycznie onirycznej otoczki, to nie jest mój wymarzony Dylan Dog. Odcinek trochę na zasadzie: wsiadamy do samochodu i zobaczymy co się zdarzy. Jest jakiś koncept, ale jakby napisany na kolanie. Nie uwiodło, a przecież komiksy z tej serii potrafią uwodzić

Der dritte Band mit dem Titel "Der lange Abschied" ist ziemlich anders: Dylan Dog bekommt nach vielen Jahren Besuch von seiner Jugendliebe Marina Kimball. Sie steht einfach vor seiner Tür und weiß nicht wie sie hierher gelangt ist. Um dieses Phänomen, das so harmlos erscheint, aufzu­klären machen die beiden eine Fahrt, wobei sich Dylan ganz auf sein Gespür verlässt. Ihr Weg führt sie zurück zu dem Badeort, dort wo Marina lebt und arbeitet. Es ist eine Reise in die gemeinsame Vergangenheit. In Rückblicken wird von ihre Bekanntschaft erzählt, wie sie sich aneinander reiben, wie Dylan hin und hergerissen ist zwischen Eifersucht und Hingabe, wie er sich überwindet, ihr sei­ne Liebe zu offenbaren.
Während dieser ganzen nächtlichen Tour geschieht Mysteriöses: Angefangen damit, dass die Stra­ße total verlassen ist. Ein Kind, von dem Marina im Nachhinein behauptet, es sehe wie ihr eigenes aus, läuft ihnen vor das Auto und wird von ihnen überfahren. Doch als sie nach ihm schauen wol­len, ist es verschwunden. Ein paar Bilder später taucht es aber wieder riesenhaft auf, ohne dass die beiden es sehen können. Als sie einen Jahrmarkt betreten und sie auf dem Riesenrad fahren, nickt Dylan ein. Da löst sich ihre Gondel und schwebt frei in der Nacht. Durch die Luft schweben gemeinsame Bekannte heran... Die Reise endet letztendlich vor dem Elternhaus Marinas, wo Dylan erkennt, dass er sie noch immer liebt. Hier erfährt Dylan die Ursache ihrer Reise, einen Grund, den er - und vielleicht der Leser auch - schon geahnt haben.
Diese Geschichte hat wieder eine beklemmende und entrückende Atmosphäre des diesmal eher sanften Mysteriösen. Aber das größte Geheimnis bleibt die Liebe, denn man fragt sich wie sich beide lieben können, wenn sie sich doch dauernd aneinander reiben und sich voreinander verschließen.
Das handliche DIN A 5 Format und die Schwarzweiß-Zeichnungen verraten die eher "niedere" Herkunft als "Groschenheft". Doch die Zeichner mit den Sclavi arbeitet sind alles andere als Tinten­kleckser und die Storys bei aller Spannung und Action alles andere als simpel. Die deutsche Ausga­be im Carlsen-Verlag ist sorgfältig hergestellt und übersetzt. Für die Colorierung des Covers zeich­net Dirk Schulz verantwortlich.

I enjoy when a book isn't one thing. Dylan Dog is primarily a horror book but at times it can be any number of other things. In the case of The Long Goodbye it is a whimsical Gothic love story. Dylan is reunited with his first love, Marina. They go on a book length drive and reminisce about their summer of love all the while the drive is a fantasy trip and many things are obviously not real. I really enjoyed this story. I enjoyed the art. It was far straight forward than the first two volumes in this series of Dylan Dog releases. It also gives up a back story to a few simple things long his gun and his car. For a horror book this was a little not horror but as a story it was great. I highly recommend Dylan Dog The Long Goodbye.

Talvez o que mais seduz nesta história seja o seu profundo onirismo. Reduzida aos seus elementos essenciais, O Imenso Adeus é ao mesmo tempo uma história de fantasmagorias e de remorsos pela dificuldade em confessar o amor. Percebemos isso muito depressa, vemos logo qual é o caminho da narrativas. Mas nestas coisas da boa literatura, não é só o destino que interessa, mas sim o percurso. Con Il Lungo Addio scoprì a 12 anni che Dylan Dog poteva anche far piangere. Non lo ammisi mai, perchè Dylan Dog era il fumetto di chi sapeva digerire lo splatter de I Conigli Rosa Uccidono e sognava di avere la fortuna di Dylan con le donne.
A 45 anni e un’esperienza con la vita e con la morte molto più grande (incluso un vecchio amico buttatosi nel vuoto), l’albo è più vivo e attuale che mai (si puó dire a tutti gli effetti che migliora con gli anni di chi lo legge). Struggente prima e poi straziante nel finale, forse prevedibile da come gli eventi si erano profilati, ma nondimeno indimenticabile per chi ama il personaggio di Dylan Dog.
Carlo Ambrosini ai disegni, perfetto nel catturare la malinconia pregnante tutta la storia, sopratutto nei volti del bellissimo personaggio femminile.
Il Lungo Addio è la risposta perfetta ad ogni volta che, davanti alla fatica del vivere, avete pensato almeno una volta: se solo potessi tornate indietro all’estate più bella della mia vita…

Μία εντελώς διαφορετική ιστορία Dylan Dog: Η εφηβική του αγάπη, που ο Dylan είχε ξεχάσει, τον επισκέφτεται στο γραφείο του, και μαζί ταξιδεύουν πίσω στο τουριστικό θέρετρο που γνωρίστηκαν - και πίσω στις αναμνήσεις τους αλλά και σε κάποια αντικείμενα που συνοδεύουν τον Dylan, όπως πχ το αυτοκίνητο και το πιστόλι του.

Φυσικά και στο ενδιάμεσο σκάνε σουρεαλιστικά σκηνικά και σκηνές που μου έφεραν ανατριχίλα, αλλά εδώ ο τρόμος ��αίρνει δεύτερη θέση με τη θλίψη και την απώλεια να πρωταγωνιστούν και με το τέλος να είναι δραματικό. Ακόμα και ο Γκράουτσο (ή, επειδή το διάβασα σε Αμερικάνικη έκδοση ο Felix - με αλλαγμένη τη φάτσα για λόγους copyright) αρνείται να κάνει κάποιο από τα αστεία του.

Esta é daquelas aventuras em que percebemos logo o que se passa, mas nem por isso perdemos o interesse em segui-la até ao fim. Desde que uma velha paixão da adolescência de Dylan o visita a meio da noite, sem se recordar como lá chegou, que percebemos. Dylan, eterno cavalheiro romântico, leva-a de regresso à sua casa, numa aldeia à beira mar. Esse regresso torna-se uma longa viagem por recordações de um passado que nunca se tornou possível mas, misteriosamente, nessa noite acontece, como se uma noite substituísse a possibilidade de uma vida. Dylan enfrenta com a sua habitual fleuma a sucessão de surreais eventos nocturnos até deixar a sua visitante na casa onde esta sempre viveu. E, ao amanhecer, acompanha o seu caixão. Sempre soubemos que esta lufada de ar do passado era um ponto final, um último desejo de uma alma que está a partir deste mundo. Um episódio de profunda poesia.

È un Dylan Dog insolito questo: non ci sono mostri o incubi contro cui combattere, bensì una storia d'amore giovanile rivissuta attraverso i ricordi. Realtà e sogno, passato e presente si fondono e diventano un tutt'uno durante la misteriosa notte in cui si svolge la vicenda; è una storia di rimpianti, di esitazioni, di non detti che avrebbero potuto cambiare la vita di due persone. D'altronde è una storia che un po' tutti possiamo aver vissuto, per questo emoziona tanto e fa commuovere.
