With Runa separated from the only people who’ve had her back, she must go on a quest alone to uncover what it really means to be the Daughter of Five. Dropped in an unknown location, presumably still on the planet, she only has a monolithic book — the Caudex — as her guide, but it’s not giving up its answers easily. Will she be able to uncover the mysteries?
In the meantime, Trae and Kani are on a mission of their own, which may turn out to be disastrous. With Fenton dead and Runa gone, their next course of action is to strike Videus back where he’ll hurt most. Will their plan succeed to bring down the mysterious man behind the Helix? Will Runa be able to find her way back to her friends? Or is the fate of the planet doomed?

Well if you like adventure, prophecies, journeys, excitement and surprises, it's all here and then some.
Runa is on a journey for answers, to find out what her role is and what her gifts are if any, being the daughter of 5. While away she learns much, about the animals, the world, herself. She also finds and brings with her a child Ammon of 10 years old. He's been beaten badly and in chains. She rescues him, also finds out who he is and what he can do to help. They have a natural connection and get along great.
Meanwhile, her friends are grieving the death of their friend Fenton, while dealing with some very weird things happening. While they are trying to find out as much information as they can to help Runa. If she makes it back. Traeton is suffering very bad headaches and has blacked out. After an attack on their information source Kani is petrified, and in shock, while Traeton blacked out. All the books, mainframe and furniture are decimated. Traeton doesn't remember anything, and kani has been so traumatized she's not talking.
Kani ends up disappearing, while Traeton vaguely remembers something when he dreams and holly crap. I can't get to the next book fast enough, I need to find out what happens, how they're going to fix everything, how will they defeat Videus? There are so many things needing to be done. I should have my answers in the next book since it's the last one of the trilogy. A really good trilogy, I'm enjoying it.
When I read Pendomus, the first book in this series, I was taken with the characters as well as the plot and I looked forward to seeing the next book. Little did I think it would be four long years before that next book would come out but, in some ways, I think the delay has paid off. In particular, the author has really developed her craftsmanship and the story is stronger for that.
This time around, we’re treated to a more cohesive worldbuilding and, for me, the attachment to the characters was more intense. I also found the relationship between Runa and Traeton made more sense because it wasn’t so brand new even though there really hasn’t been any passage of time. Runa is still enjoying her experiences with the pleasures of life that are denied to the citizens but she’s isolated from her comfort zone, set on a quest of sorts that only she can complete. This might have been easier before she learned to love and be loved, back when Helix “protected” everyone from the vagaries of natural life.
In the course of Polarities, Runa truly comes into her own and becomes the strong young woman she always had the potential to be with the help of some fantastical creatures and a wondrous book. Meanwhile, Traeton and their friends have been left behind, not knowing whether Runa is alive or dead and trying to find their own way forward. Everyone’s journey will lead to answers…and even more questions.
WOW! I didn’t think this story could get any better after finishing Pendomus but when I picked up Polarities I found out real quick like just how much better it could get.
There was so much more detail in the world building in Polarities. The descriptions were out of this world amazing with each little detail I felt as if I was there experiencing it all myself. It was like having ESP….as if Carissa and I were on the exact same page and as if the characters and I both were traveling in the same world.
In Polarities Runa is separated from her friends and ends up in another time and place and as the Daughter of Five Runa faced a number of trials on her journey that took her from the present to the past. Completing the trails puts Runa closer to her goal of saving Pendomus.
While Runa was a way her journey she met quite a few different creatures who helped her along the way. I enjoyed seeing Runa trying to converse with the creatures.
We are introduced to a few new characters in Polarities but there was one in particular that grabbed my heart and that was ten-year-old Ammon. He was so sweet and cute. Ammon had been kidnapped and beaten by a very bad man and left all alone with no food or water when Runa found him.
Polarities is a very interesting and engrossing read that had me hooked with all the excitement, mystery, the world building, the characters, the trials, the love and all the twists that it kept throwing at me; oh and not to mention the ending but I am not going to speak of the ending as I don’t want to spoil the story but I will say it is something to look forward to. I can’t wait to dive into the next and last book of this awesome trilogy Revolutions.
All I can say now is read this trilogy, the Pendomus Chronicles now; but I do suggest that you start with the first book Pendomus and then Polarities oh and don’t forget the prequel Trajectory as it is a remarkable story as well and is a part of this trilogy, the Pendomus Chronicles. One click yourself a copy of Polarities today!
A solid sequel! It did take me a little while to get back into the swing of things after such a long time between books. On the plus side, the third book is also out right away, so it will be easy to carry through the momentum to the end of the series.
The Pendomus Chronicles are definitely for fans of The Maze Runner. Carissa's writing style feels similar to James Dashner's; she has the same level of chaos and intensity, the same trading of swears for a more family-friendly dialogue, the same subtle teen romance. The key difference between them is that Andrews has introduced a new dimension: time travel. Our main character, Runa, dashes back and forth over the years in this book, constantly staying just one step ahead of the big-bad. It's hard to tell what changes she can make in the timeline without running into those pesky paradoxes. Very excited to see what the third book will bring!
A copy of this book was provided by the author in exchange for an honest review.
I’m so glad the author came to me to see if I would be interested in reading the rest of this series. It’s been four years since the first book came out and now the sequels are finally ready for the world. I of course said yes because deep down I still wanted to continue this series, even though I only gave the first book 3 stars.
Before I read Polarities I reread the first book Pendomus that way I could have an easier time falling into the book, to get lost in it. To better connect to the characters and boy did I! I was practically in tears, my heart breaking as a character was telling Runa that another character didn’t make it in the first book (not naming names cause I don’t want to spoil anything). I think it hit me harder because of where Runa was too.
Polarities is full of adventures, I was sitting on the edge of my seat! There was definitely more fantastical science fiction-y elements to this book, compared to the first one, and I absolutely loved them! I was absolutely shocked when Runa found out where she was in the middle of the book, especially when we find out that she’s been traveling like that throughout the book!
I especially enjoyed that more than the trials she had to go through. The first trial actually felt like a challenge but the others, not so much. I think mainly because we didn’t know it was a trial until she passed it. I wish they weren’t as subtle as they were. Other than that, I really enjoyed this book!
Overall this series is refreshing and original! The following books just get better and I’m so excited and sad to be reading the last book soon! Even once you finish the last page, the story and characters will stay with you, wishing to get lost in their world again!
*Was given a copy from the author in exchange for my honest review*
Not the greatest work I've read, but like Pendomus, it's another one of Andrews' earlier works, so I didn't expect the same quality as say, Windhaven Witches. In fact, I nearly folded at the 35-percent mark because I was just bored with the lack of action to that point and hard-to-believe good luck for the main character (Runa) escaping Videus.
But, I glanced at the next page and something caught my eye, which sucked me back into the plot and the rest was history. I ended up reading the remaining 65 percent in less than 24 hours, and it probably would've bene fewer than 12 hours had I not been working the day job later on!
it's a good story that, as with many indie works, ends in the world's biggest cliffhanger. I have a few books stocked in the inventory before I can get to it, but I'm intrigued enough to finish the trilogy.
Priorities is the second novel of a series of three. The book had me hooked from the beginning. We are introduced to a lot of different characters in this book. Runa the main person is fulfilling her destiny to save Pendomus. She is sent out to solve five trials. After completing each one a small petal of the Everblossom tree is tattooed on her arm. This book leads You in the future, the past, and the now. Keeping everything straight is what makes this book so exciting. This book is sci-fi in genre and a truly interesting book to read. To get the whole book, You should read the authors first book. I gave it five stars because the writing, plot, and editing was super. If you like a good sci-fi read, this series will not disappoint.
I thought that Book 1 was great but this was even better, It has the Wow factor, I was caught up in the excitement and at times was just as confused as the characters when they were thrown into something that they had never experienced before as I couldn't work out what was going to happen next. I love the way it is written so that I am drawn in to the emotions as I cried and laughed along with them. It held me spellbound, I found it hard to put it down and I am a great grandmother so it is for all ages, I can't wait to read the next book in the series. I received this book as a complimentary ARC so that I could give an honest review and I am so glad I did it was wonderful.
I didn't want to give it a three because I continuously stopped myself from skimming. More than half the book dragged with trials that weren't too obvious, which killed the momentum for me. It only got interesting toward the end, when new things occurred. They are really good ideas but I can't trudge through another book. It wasn't for me, but I'll be checking out other works by the author.
I loved this book, which is #2 out of #3 in the series. There is a lot of mystery, and some clean romance. There are a number of twists in the story that succeeded in keeping me wondering. I don't want the story to end, but I also can't wait to get to Book #3 to find out how things work out for everyone. These Books are definitely worth your time.
Runa is on a journey as the Daughter of 5. But she isn't real sure what is going on, where she is exactly, or what the end result is going to be. Her friends are all grieving. Trae is suffering massive headaches that cause him to blackout. Much is revealed in this story and there is still so much we don't know! I loved this second book in the series and I am so excited to keep moving on.
Book 2 of the Pendomus Chronicles! While not my favorite of the series, I did have A TON of fun incorporating in some of the more fantastical science fiction-y elements. I hope you enjoy the continuation of Pendomus as much as I enjoyed writing it!
This book is really good.It kept me wondering what was going to happen throughout the whole thing. It has everything in there but still being rated pg. It was really awesome.
I am continuing to enjoy the story line and wished there was more in this book! Some parts went on a little too long and others not long enough so the balance felt a little off but loving the story!
I liked this book way more than the first in the series. The characters' motivations were clearer and they were more active in their decisions, rather than just letting everything happen to them. The world-building, however, still leaves a lot to be desired.
Characters are amazing....twists and turns unexpected. Love the characters....looking forward to the next book. Wonder what that will bring ..Good series
The middle of a trilogy always seems to be the hardest to do well. This book delivers on some counts but left me feeling unsatisfied.
Runa spends most of the story going through trials where she learns more about her past, her special abilities, and those she loves. Although Trae and her other friends are part of a parallel story, they are more of a background to the main story. A bit of time traveling adds some initial confusion but provides an interesting twist to help Runa be better prepared.
Clearly, we have been building towards Book 3. I would have liked a bit more closure in this book. However, it was enjoyable to read.
Continually trying to figure things out Runa is relying on the caudex book she has been given . She searches for answers as she nears the end of her trial as a daughter of five.
The mind works in mysterious ways. The bond the characters have is amazing. No matter what happens that have each other's back. The link between the planet and the elements and the people to make things right takes just the right balance to defeat evil.
Great book. This second book of Runa presents her continued journey quest of finding herself. Her destiny. It is well written, with great developed characters and action pact scenes to carry you through the entire story. Never a dull moment. Read and enjoy. I received a copy of this book from the author and this is my voluntary honest review.
A strong second book in the series. I am often times let down by a second book but Carissa has continued to bring a solid follow up in book two. As Runa goes through her trails I am also look into my life. I love it when an author can also be inspiring,..... self-help books can be so dry sometimes. What better way to self reflect then through Sci-fi.
This book is as good as the first one. The adventures the characters go on are more dangerous than t in the first book, but the adventures are just as exciting to be a participant. I am excited to read the next book in the series.
