It's been a while since I've read paranormal romance. This book happened to hit the spot because it was a nice change with demons and sorcerers. I enjoyed Vivien and Dain so much that I hope to get the first book in this series. If you're looking for something a little darker, then check this one out.

Wow. Apparently I really missed a good read in Eve Silver’s first book in her ‘Demon’ series. At least I did if it was as good as “Demon’s Hunger” which is the second in the series. Silver’s writing has a gritty, almost haunting feeling. While it’s usually more noticeable in her historicals, I could still sense it in this contemporary. Wizards and demons running around today, battling evil to save humankind. It’s certainly been done before, but Silver does a great job of giving it her own touch and throwing in a succubus to boot!
Vivien is a forensic anthropologist who specializes in bones. She just finished a grueling investigation into a serial killer and really needs her break. Of course, right now she’s thinking that was probably her last case since she’s obviously going insane. She keeps ‘blanking out’, losing time, and her sex drive seems to be stuck in overdrive. Then she opens her door to one of the most gorgeous men she’s ever set eyes on and her libido goes nuts! He’s gonna think she’s crazy if she can’t settle down. But then she’s attacked by a full demon in her basement and Mr Hunky saves her…with a magic staff? Surely he really doesn’t expect her to believe he’s a wizard? Where’s the hat and the robes?
Dain is a Sorcerer. He has fought against demonkind for thousands of years. He’s also a loner. After a demon killed his human wife and child, he retreated. And just when he was learning to interact with his own kind again, his mentor betrayed all sorcerers by turning to the dark. Trust isn’t just an issue for Dain, it’s about an impossibility. But there’s just something about Vivien that calls to him. If he wasn’t determined and hadn’t learned his lesson about the frailty of humans, he’d be all over her. But even so, once she becomes involved in their battle against a big demon trying to return to Earth, he just can’t let her go. But there’s also something not ‘right’ about Vivien. Can he trust her enough to believe without evidence?
There’s a whole lot going on in this story. There’s Vivien and her relationship with her mother (bad news there). There’s Vivien and her relationship with Dain. There’s Dain and his relationship with his fellow sorcerers. And there’s BOTH Dain and Vivien and the guilt they seem to carry like another body organ. Then add in the battle against the big demon dude, and a serial killer who may or may not be one of several people close to Vivien…if not Vivien herself! See what I mean when I say a lot going on?
The mood and tone is dark, but not depressing. There are even a few spots of good humor thrown in which I adored. But the star of the book is definitely the interactions between Dain and Vivien. Their attraction is hot, hot, hot. Silver can write a love scene that’ll make you sweat! But there’s also beauty in the way these two come to care for each other. They take it in baby steps and each step reveals a little more trust and a little more care. Neither one did anything stupid that made me want to kick them and after the reads I’ve had lately, that’s a BIG plus.
So if you’re looking for something a little different, pick up “Demon’s Hunger” by Eve Silver. I myself plan to run right down to the bookstore and pick up “Demon’s Kiss” first thing tomorrow. Now that I’ve had a taste of this world, I want more.
You know right from the title that there will be demons in this one, and they are definitely those nasty types who are evil, want to rule the world, etc… It is up to Dain Hawkins, a sorcerer, to help keep the portal between the demon realm and the Earth closed. The portal was closed in the book before this called Demon’s Kiss by one of Dain’s buddies, Ciarran, the hero of that book. Dain has in his possession, a demon’s foot that was severed when the portal closed. This foot is very dangerous because it is filled with dark magic. For some reason, creatures called hybrids are going into cemeteries and looking for charm bags that were buried with the dead. Hybrids were once humans and are controlled by demons. They reminded me of flesh eating zombies since they will eat human flesh. Dain has to figure out who wants these charm bags, and for what purpose.
The one person who can help him is forensic anthropologist, Vivien Cairn, who is on sabbatical from the university she teaches at. Not only is Vivien at odds with her mother, who has always been cold towards her, as well as recovering emotionally from a serial killer investigation, but Vivien keeps blacking out for hours at a time. She does things during these blackouts she can’t remember, and it is starting to scare her. When Dain shows up on her doorstep, she doesn’t remember talking with him on the phone. Vivien does know who Dain is because when they first meet she says, “You’re Dain Hawkins, wonder-guy, a magician when it comes to buying up foundering companies and turning them into moneymakers.” Dain has come to Vivian because he wants her to take a look at some bones he has. Dain also thinks Vivien is cute, especially with the neon green fuzzy slippers she is wearing.
Unfortunately by Dain bring the evil demon bones to Vivien, that places her in danger and soon after, hybrids target her and burn down her house. Both Dain and Vivien are able to get out unhurt. Vivien is also in for a shock when she finds out who Dain is, and that he won’t let her go because he needs her, as well as wanting her, even though he tries to deny his feeling for her. Vivien continues to have more blackouts, because there is something so very wrong with her, because she is not human, but a succubi. That is why Vivien is blacking out and has become very weak. If she doesn’t have sex with a man and feed off his energy, and soon, she will continue to deteriorate. Can you guess who volunteers for this job?
Eve Silver can sure write a suspenseful story and she does so here with Demon’s Hunger. The twist with Vivien and whether she is a killer demon keeps you guessing to the very end. And when Dain and Vivien has some hot succubi sex, those scenes where very hot and satisfying. I did enjoy Vivien over Dain, because even though she is going through some major upheavals, she didn’t venture into whiny TSTL (to stupid to live) territory. I was less than thrilled with Dain because he is one of these heroes who can’t get over the past and goes back and forth about his feelings for Vivien. “She’s mine! But I can’t touch her because I must deny myself for the horrible thing that I felt I did to my wife centuries ago.” Dain needs to take that stick out of his ass and have some good sex. When he finally gives into his urges for Vivien, he lightens up a bit and he becomes less annoying.
Demon Hunger is a fast paced read, with characters who can kick ass, make sweet love and survive to tell the tale.
JAJAJAJAJA🤣🤣🤣
I enjoyed this book. I like this series less than the Sins one but more than the Dark one.
This was a good, entertaining book. I saw bits of it coming, but not all of it, and I thoroughly enjoyed the journey.
One thing that did annoy me was the lack of section breaks. We frequently switched viewpoints with no warning. Worse, we sometimes jumped to an entirely different place. One paragraph, we're with one set of characters, next paragraph we've jumped to an entirely different place/time with completely different people and a different viewpoint. It was quite jarring and sometimes confusing.
Overall, I enjoyed the book and I'm quite disappointed that the author seems to have abandoned this series. This book was released years ago and there doesn't appear to be a book 3. It's a shame because I'd have liked the stories of Darqun, Javier, and Baunn. The author spent time fleshing them out, especially Darqun, and I'd love to read their stories.
The Compact of Sorcerers have been guarding the human world from the demon dimension for centuries by a wall of magic. A recent near breach revealed a sorcerer betrayer and uncovered a powerful new breed of sorcerer. Now a plot is brewing to try to bring the demons over again. Also a serial killer is sucking the life from mortal victims. Into this mess comes Dr. Vivien Cairn forensic anthropologist, sought out by the sorcerers to investigate the bones found in a collection of gris-gris bags. One sorcerer, Dain feels a dark pull from her and determines to keep her under watch. Vivien is strongly drawn to him but also feels she is going mad as chunks for her time seem to disappear. These two must figure out how to save the world and what is happening to Vivien. An action packed by gory story; a solid end to the series.
Eve Silver has written some very fun romance novels, and this is one of them. You have a Sorcerer who meets a woman who doesn't know anything about his world, and has spent her adult life becoming a forensic anthropologist, where she helps put killers away by studying the bones. They are drawn together when she is attacked by hybrids and demons, and can't figure out why the draw is so strong. There's a great twist at the end, which makes me wish for more in this series. I really enjoyed it.
Eve Silver is a best-selling author, with this book, Demon’s Hunger, following her title, Demon’s Kiss. Eve Silver holds two post secondary degrees. She teaches microbiology and human anatomy at a local college. After school she returns to romance, having found her own happily-ever-after with her husband and two sons. Forensic anthropologist, Vivien Cairn, has come to the conclusion that she is losing her mind. Her sex drive is off the charts and she’s blacking out; losing chunks of time with no memory of where or what she was doing. While examining one of many charm gris-gris bags, Vivien finds herself being rescued from a demon attack by a very sexy stranger, forcing her to question her sanity and what she always saw as reality. It was Dain Hawkins job to protect the wall between the human and demon realms, along with the Compact of Sorcerers known as the brotherhood. Torn between a seeded desire for Vivien and an ancient duty, Sorcerer Dain suspects that Vivien’s mysterious symptoms are in connection to a series of murderous crimes. Can he save her from the evil that threatens to claim her? Better yet, should he? I was a little put off by the immediate lust and sex drive when related to Vivien in the beginning of the book, as I found it unrealistic even for paranormal. After getting into the story and closer to chapter three, I quickly saw why and where it was going, and changed my mind. I mention this only because I don’t want future readers to come to the same conclusion to brashly. I do believe that this book is the second in a series, however I had no difficulty picking it up and following the story. I love trilogy books or series books that give you closure and still prelude the next one. It makes for a very satisfying experience. Eve Silver is just emerging into the paranormal romance scene, but I have no hesitation in stating that this is not the last we will see of her. She skillfully throws you into a world beyond possibilities and makes you believe it’s reality- taking you away from everything but the pages you’re captivated by and the characters you want to be. It was a very sound plot, with enough twists and questions to keep you glued. I didn’t find any dead spots and I found the first and secondary characters relatable. Demon’s Hunger, by Eve Silver, is a tantalizing, dark, and magically fun read… sure to leave you satisfied in every way.
Demon's Hunger by Eve Silver Paranormal Romance Mass Market Paperback - November 25, 2008 4 ½ stars
Eve Silver, once again, returns to the fantastic world of sorcerers protecting humans from bloodthirsty demons. She seamlessly combines horror, the paranormal and mystery into a book that is well worth the wait.
For those who love her gothic romance, I highly recommend this book as it has many of the same elements to thrill and keep you in suspense. I know I was really thrown at the end. Plus you are sure to love her fascinating paranormal world!
Vivien thinks she is loosing her mind as she begins to discover that large blocks of time are missing from her memory. What has she done? Where has she been? She believes she is going mad. When the mysterious Dain visits her, she becomes suspicious of his plea for help and her highly unusual attraction to him. Especially since soon after his arrival she is suddenly attacked by demons.
Dain is a sorcerer who has lived centuries. He needs Vivien's knowledge as a forensic anthologist to track down a serial killer. The problem is, he can't keep his mission separate from his desire for her. Dain's past has left him wary of love. Since then he has only been comfortable with 2 goals: magic and vengeance.
When demons attack Vivien, Dain knows that Vivian is safest with him and he finds himself wanting to protect her. As both seek to unravel the mystery of Vivien's memory gaps, explore their explosive passion and hunt down a serial killer they are drawn towards a chilling path neither expects.
Eve Silver has written a fascinating tale with characters I grew to love. If you enjoy thrillers, the paranormal, strong characters and unexpected twists that keep you on the edge of your seat... then THIS is the book for you!

Taking a year off because she's experiencing blackouts, the heroine wakes up on morning to find the hero at the door wanting her to look at some bones he has. She knows they're not human bones from the jump and when they're attacked by demons and hybrids, the hero kidnapped her to keep her safe.
The hero, a wicked Sorcerer guardian, started off a smiling, cheeky guy but as the story went on he became depressed and saulky. I didn't like it. The heroine is a succubus but doesn't know it so she's not having sex and in turn she's starving to death.
From the jump, all the heroine thinks about is sex and how sexy Dain is and how she wants to touch him. It honestly became a little boring, borderline creepy as the hero wasn't completely obsessed by her as she was by him. Don't get me wrong, the hero found her incredibly attractive and found himself growing possessive and protective of her but it wasn't to the degree that every thought was about the other person.
Also the heroine was clingy. The hero leaves the room or the apartment for 5 minutes and she's depressed about everyone living her...Jesus he left to kill a demon he sensed, give the guy a break! I wasn't invested in these characters as I was in the previous book as I didn't feel like they had that much character to them. You get a little back story about how the hero's wife and child died but otherwise nothing else is explained about what makes him tick.
The heroine was portrayed as nothing more than a sexed up fiend. The hero tried to say he was attracted to her damsel in distress and bravery but I honestly just she was felt bland. There's a subplot of a serial killer and blah blah blah. Not lovely this one as much as I hoped to.
Forensic anthropologist Vivien Cairn has been feeling weird lately. She wakes up having missed hours of time. Dain Hawkins is a sorcerer. He is part of a brotherhood, sworn to protect the space between humans and demons. Dain saves Vivien from a demon attack. For Vivien being rescued is just the start of how quickly things go from bad to worse for her. She gets propelled into Dain’s world filled with demons, sorcerers, succubus and other creatures. Dain has never seen anyone so beautiful as Vivien or felt such a strong attraction. But before Dain can make a move, he will have to stop a killer.
There is a succubus killing people. It has no mercy. It only knows one thing…that is thirst. The closer Dain gets to putting a stop to the succubus, the closer he puts Vivien in harms way. Dain may have to make a decision to which is more important to him…stopping a succubus or protecting Vivien.
Demon’s Hunger is the second book in The Compact of Sorcerers series by Eve Silver. I found myself memorized by this book. I came close to almost forgoing sleep to finish reading Demon’s Hunger, it was that good. The attraction between Vivien and Dain was hot. This is because they lusted for each other and they never hooked up till close to the end of the book. I have read many paranormal novels but very few of them were about demons. Eve Silver did such wonderful job with Demon’s Hunger that I find myself lusting for more. I have already made sure to pick up a copy of Demon’s Kiss as soon as possible. Now that I have discovered Eve Silver, I will be all the rest of the books to follow in this series.
ok, here's the scoop - i've now read four of this author's books in two days. started with the eve kenin 'waste' books, then moved to these. so its quite possible i'm suffering burn out.
but...
this book offers absolutely nothing new. and i don't just mean from the first book to this one (although that's especially true) i mean the whole demon genre. plucky, intelligent heroine, who turns out to have some type of demon blood in her. gorgeous, intelligent 'other' hero, who manages to draw out heroine's innate 'other-ness' and together, they overcome adversity. usually in the form of a bad, bad demon.
and if you were to single out the first book in the series, to this one - the comparison is so similar as to be painful. how many women are there out there that have this type of 'other-ness' that will be a magnet for the bad, bad demons, but will in the end allow them to live for all eternity with their soul mate? enough for each one of the sorcerers in this brotherhood?
i paid full-money-honey for the ebook, which adds to my bitterness. $9.99 is a lot for one afternoon's read.
another but...
the writing is pretty good. the sex is awesome, and plentiful (total spoiler: doesn't hurt that the heroine's 'other-ness' is that she's a succubas). dark and gruesome enough in parts to soothe the schmarmy bits. nice little twist (which you may probably see coming, but i'm simple) at the end. which is why this puppy is getting 3 stars.

This series is about a brotherhood called the Compact of Sorcerers who are sworn to protect humans from the demon realm. These men are immortal and have extraordinary and specialized powers to help them in their battle. And they are tortured souls, for how can we have a romance without external and internal conflict?
In Demon's Hunger we have Dain Hawkin's story. Dain's fight with the demons is quite personal since they killed his mortal wife and child centuries before. So, when he meets Vivien Cairn he doesn't want to be so completely drawn to her. And Vivien feels the same way since she's not had the best of luck with any sort of relationship since everyone seems to abandon her.
Let me start of by saying that I'm loving this series. I like this paranormal world that Eve Silver has created. It almost seems possible that there are demons and hybrids (half demon/half human, for lack of a better explanation) living among us. Her heroines are strong women and face their challenges and shortcomings head on with little complaint, which is quite refreshing. Demon's Hunger kept me enraptured and turning the pages. I didn't want to put the book down because I wanted to know what happened next without any delay. I highly recommend this series, and reading them in order (although the books do stand completely on their own).

Demon’s Hunger Written By: Eve Silver Published By: Forever, an imprint of Grand Central Publishing, 2008, First Edition, 368 pages, softcover ISBN 978-0446618939
Demon’s Hunger is a really creative and thrilling paranormal romance novel. The story is refreshingly unique with electrifying and imaginative plot twists that leave you with a feeling of intense satisfaction. The pacing is excellent with a smooth flow that surges into the magical and sexual confrontations between darkness and light. The characters are very likable; each with their own...
Demon’s Hunger by Eve Silver began at a slow, leisurely pace. Midway through, everything changed. I wasn’t able to put the book down, wrapped up in the mystery and suspense of finding the serial killer and figuring out what was wrong with Vivien.
In serial books like these, the heroes and heroines are often interchangeable from one book to the next. This wasn’t the case for Dain and Vivien. Dain is such a dynamic hero, dark but not dismal, brooding but not depressing, and Vivien was quirky and intelligent without being too naïve.
This second novel in the Compact of Sorcerers series is just as good as the first book if not better. Even though this book can be read as a stand-alone I highly recommend reading Demon's Kiss first for all of the character and background information. Ms. Silver has again written a fast-paced suspenseful tale filled with romance and intrigue that kept me turning the pages from beginning to end all in one sitting. Fantastic characters ~ I can't wait to read the rest of their stories in the next installments.
I do have to say that Demon’s Hunger wasn’t all that bad. It was still a good story, with some interesting characters, but a little underdeveloped. I wouldn’t be against reading more in this series, but right now, I’m not heading out to look for more. I have other books in my eyesight and this series hasn’t distracted me from them.
After reading the first novel in Eve Silver's Compact of Sorcerers series, I was hooked on the new world that she had created. The sequel was well worth the wait. The ease in the blending of action, suspense, romance and mystery is becoming a trademark for Ms. Silver's work. I look forward to reading the next book in this paranormal romance series.
First book in a more contemporary series than what she usually writes, and yet, still her style is such that you are drawn into the story immediately. In fact, thanks to her, I've grown to be an impatiant reader. If i'm not drawn into a story by the end of the first chapter, I don't bother with the rest of the book. (with hers, I'm generally sucked in by the end of the first page. LOL)
