I’m just starting to love fantasy and finding my way around the genre. Sometimes it’s hit or miss. The Lightning Prophecy is definitely a hit. I loved how Cyr developed an entire world within a world that was somehow believable in a fantastical way. I’m not a huge fan of trilogies because I have very little patience (some would say none), but it can’t be denied that a series allows a writer to develop an entire new world with much more depth than a single book. I loved how there were little clues and information dropped about this fantasy world throughout the book. Although some aspects of the story are predictable (it isn’t too hard to figure out who the bad guy is), it doesn’t matter because the reading is just that enjoyable.

I loved Delaney and Reid as well. Delaney was funny! I loved her little witticisms. She’s really confused about everything that’s going on as well as suffering from loss, but she keeps it together. Reid’s character is a bit predictable – alpha male that doesn’t want to get his heart hurt again. Sigh. Are there really that many men out there so terrified of getting hurt? But he was an intelligent investigator and I do love a good mystery. And he was sexy. Let’s not forget that!

I found the dialogue somewhat stilted. It just didn’t flow very well at times. There were also a few things that were unrealistic. When Delaney’s friend is found dead, she’s all alone and lost but then we found out she has another best friend, Troy. I’m not sure why she didn’t call Troy after Sierra’s death. There is some repetition especially about the Delaney moving around a lot. Some of the story felt out of order. Delaney goes into a car with Reid several times but then we learn that she’s afraid of being in cars. These are just minor issues that don’t detract from the enjoyment of reading the story too much.

Cyr ends this novel with one heck of a cliffhanger. Personally, I can’t wait for the next installment.

The synopsis had me sold on this one. I was eager to give it a try. Here is my breakdown:

Pros:
* Offered as kindleunlimited
* Loved the cover
* Creative story concept
* The sex was steamy, but there wasn’t much of that

Cons:
* A lot of things really made little sense. The heroine spent her life on the run constantly moving with her aunt all because of a prophecy. A prophecy in which her aunt never told her anything about. It just wasn’t logical
* I tired of the whole "prophecy" ordeal. I just wanted us to tell us the complete damn thing already. This seemed to drag out
* Insta-love feel to it
* A cliffhanger - it definitely could have ended on a better note - I hate cliffhangers executes as this one was

Overall, I think as a series this does have potential. While I didn’t love this book, I'll continue on to book 2 since its already been released. Had it not been, it wouldn’t be one I waited for though.

The author, Emily Cyr developed an enjoyable read with an edge of mystery. The alpha males were outstanding and that alone kept my interest. The Lightning Prophecy held a definite twist to my way of thinking of witches and werewolves. I didn't expect that thing to happen at the end, and since I never leave spoilers, I guess you'll just have read The Lightning Prophecy to find out.

I look forward to her next book...

I'm going to be generous for now and give three stars even though this book probably should only have two.

But if the next book is as crappy as this, I'm coming back and changing my rating. Most likely 5 minutes from now I will change it, because the more I think about what I read the more I cringe and finding myself thinking "did I just waste that much of my life reading this crap?"

The best thing this book had going for it was the one and a half sex scenes. Otherwise all the prophecy crap and the world in general was always hardly explained and left me confused and wanting more. The characters' inner dialogue did not seem realistic and made me roll my eyes one too many times. It just didn't flow. At the beginning the hero and heroines' relationship felt rushed and awkward because it was being forced into something it wasn't. I wish it would have developed in a more realistic way.

Also, the gay cross dressing friend made no sense to the story. He served absolutely no purpose and not to mention where was he when their friend was murdered? Why wasn't he with our heroine Delaney when she had to ID the body? Like I said, his character made no sense and popped up out of nowhere.

Now on to my problems with with mystery element of the book.

I was always thinking "is that it? Really? This isn't even a mystery of whodunit because anyone with a brain could figure that out."

And because it was so glaringly obvious whodunit it made the hero and heroine seem exceedingly stupid. Oh and don't get me started on how what's her face always had these glaringly obvious points to make about the case, and then was praised like she was a damn Sherlock genius.

Oh and another tidbit. Delaney goes on and On and on some more about having to continually move to keep her power a secret. Yet she tells everyone that gets within listening distance! Maybe I don't understand the concept of a secret, but I'm pretty sure you don't go around blabbing your mouth about it.

I'm just very confused by the rave reviews and feel like I read a completely different book.

Honestly thank goodness for the sex scenes and the beautiful cover, because I think that's the only reason this book is getting two stars.

Ugh, and of course cliffhanger so you feel like you MUST invest into just one more book in this series.

Story: 4 stars
Editing: 3 stars

This book contains witches, weres, steamy sex scenes, and a cross dresser. Okay, my pointing out that there is a cross dresser may not be warranted, but I don't see how the character adds to the story. Most scenes take place in Georgia with a quick trip to Texas. The witches are known to humans and have their own little government. Some witches choose to be unregistered which means they don't have the protection of the coven. Each witch has power over one of the four elements - earth, air, water, and fire. Then comes Delaney, a lightning witch.

The editing:
This was terrible. There were so many mistakes, most were grammatical errors in which the wrong word was inserted into a sentence. ("I used my hind legs to trash and kick at him." Kindle location 3421) Some sentences appear to have been altered in tense. Grammar and spelling errors are very difficult for me to overlook. I have been known to quit a book if the errors occur often. I also felt annoyed by the repetition of some lines. Please Mrs. Cyr, consider a new editor.

Will I read the next one? Yes.

Possible spoilers below:
Delaney's aunt has raised her since about the age of five, and kept her hidden from the coven fearing her lightning power will endanger her life. After Delaney's best friend is mauled to death and an investigator hired by the coven shows up to track down the killer, Delaney immerses herself in the investigation as a matter of personal revenge. She soon learns just how special her lightning power is. And what is a book without romance?

Question for the author - Was Mil really Delaney's aunt? Or more of a family friend?

What a fantastic story. I fell in love with the characters. This author has had me sitting on the edge of my seat in anticipation waiting to see what was going to happen. The story starts out with a child Delaney and her mother who is concerned about her daughter being a witch. They contact her aunt and find out that Delaney is a unique witch and they need to protect her from the coven finding out that she exists so that they will not use her to their advantage. When Delaney is an adult she decides she has had enough running and decides to stay in one place. Then the world as she knows it comes crashing down around her, She loses loved ones and meets Reid who is investigating the murders of unregistered witches. She falls in love with him. As the story progresses she is targeted by the murderer. The author had me guessing who the bad guy was throughout the story. I really enjoyed the writing style and can not wait to read more about the Were and Witches and what is to come now that the prophecy has started.

The story is wonderful. A witch with little control over her powers meets and falls in love with a werewolf as they attempt to find who’s killing witches on the East Coast. The heroine, Delaney, had me laughing with her flippant comments and the situations she got herself into, especially with her friend Troy who was a hoot and a half.

Reid had me fanning myself with his hotness. And I adored the way Reid and Delaney’s romance combusted, from the moment they met, to… I don’t do spoilers so you’ll have to read and find out for yourself.

As I mentioned I really liked the story, but found it could do with some more editing. I found the plot to be intriguing and had difficulty putting it down once I started it so I would’ve given it a five if all had been well with the editing, but it wasn’t. That’s what dragged my rating down.

I was given a copy of this book for an honest review. You can purchase it from Amazon (where I cashed in my gift book) if you so desire.

This is not a stand alone novel.

I really had an enjoyable time reading this book. It was a little different and I just loved the writing style. The chemistry was amazing between Delaney and Reid. They just seemed to fit each other perfectly. The magical/supernatural community is cloaked in mystery with lots of weirdness that is largely left unexplored in this first installment. I am looking forward to the next story and finding out more about the secretive and powerful coven and other groups. I also loved the interaction and mistrust that seems to exist everywhere in this author's world. I became so enamored with Delaney's story and the mystery of the prophecy and escalating series of deaths that I did not want the story to end. I am looking forward to the next book in this imaginative series!

I read this book through the Kindle Unlimited program.

I met this author at a con and when she said she kills off all her characters (even heroines), I was like, "What?" But the more she talked about the story and her writing the more intrigued I became. This is not typically a story I would have picked up, and it's one I would classify as more urban fantasy than romance, but I still definitely enjoyed it. The identity of the killer is glaringly obvious, and perhaps that's on purpose. It took me a couple days to really focus and get into the book as the dialogue and writing wasn't very smooth at times, but I was still interested in the storyline. Light on romance, even if there is a romance between Delaney and Reid, and more heavy on the paranormal/UF side, and even with the "cliffhanger" ending, I would recommend this book. I'm curious to see where the next part of the story takes us.

I really enjoyed this book! It was well written, good storyline, and a good flow.I enjoyed the characters (Especially Troy..lol) and i thought the banter back and forth between him and the auntie was quite funny. Now their were a couple of things that stood out to me that i gotta throw a little shade on.One was i thought that the portraying of her out of controls powers was stretched a bit much.I also was really surprised by the adult content.I went into this thinking it was YA ,and by mid book ,there i was looking for the lotion and tissues, lol. With that being said,I think you did a great job and you're well on your way as an author!

This was a really great read and I've got the next one to move straight on. Excellent when you can get these things in a row.

Although this novel didn't necessarily hold anything that hadn't been done, in some fashion, before and with generic characters, I really did enjoy it. Big time smoking hot werewolves, a nice evolution into the romance, complete with a good storyline.

I can't wait to crack on with my read held jealously to my chest.

Steamy and Suspenseful!

I chose 5 stars because this is the author's first book, but yet, it is a well thought out story line, a book I couldn't put down, and a book that leaves me in high anticipation of the sequel! I recommend this book to both fantasy and romance readers who don't mind if the story gets a bit dirty.

QUICK REVIEW

The Lightning Prophecy is an enjoyable, if a bit predictable, new adult paranormal romance, told from the perspectives of Delaney (a lightning witch) and Reid (a private investigator with a predatorial side). The story was exciting and different, and the chemistry was hot, hot, hot! However, the book was held back a bit by the lack of editing and some unbelievable emotional reactions. This is a good start to a trilogy that I will be following up on!

Best and worst

The best thing about this book: The overall plot was fresh and exciting.

The worst thing about this book: There was too much emphasis on describing people on each meeting (i.e. what they wore).

NOT SO QUICK REVIEW

First impressions

Let me start with the cover. It's rather intriguing, though some font and colour changes could help. It shows a girl in a storm, which is fitting considering what Delaney, the heroine, is. However, it might confuse some potential readers because – GASP – it doesn't fit the usual look for a paranormal romance. In fact, the cover gave me the impression of a YA fantasy/paranormal.

Aren't NA PNRs supposed to have a front-facing girl right up in your face, or a hunky man with his shirt off? Hey now, don't get all up in arms. You know what I mean. You know it's true. So PNR fans, don't let the cover lead you to think there isn't the usual PNR offerings in here! You'll get your hunks and your face-fanning, don't you worry. ;)

Plot

I'm going to jump to the best part of the book – the underlying story arc itself. Delaney is a 26-year-old witch with the power to control lightning, unheard of in the witching world. She must hide her powers for fear of being used, tested on or even killed. Having settled down in Savannah (Georgia?) for a quiet existence, she just wants to have as normal a life as possible while also trying to learn how to control her power. It's all good, until her best friend is brutally torn apart.

Enter Reid, the dominating private investigator hired to look into her friend's murder, which happens to be part of a series of murders. The two are inexplicably drawn to each other, and Delaney refuses to just sit back and let someone else find out who killed her friend, so they must learn to work with each other to solve the mystery before the next murder.

AND WHAT A SHOCKER THE MYSTERY MURDERER WAS.

The book was initially predictable, but Cyr totally threw out a red herring. I thought I knew who the guy was, but nope.

The story was engaging, with moments of heat as well as moments of "OH GOD NO RUN" in a great balance. In fact, I finished the book in a day and immediately looked up the next in the series.

World-building

In this world, there are witches, werewolves and who knows what else. The witches are known to the public and are supposed to register and submit to the will of the Coven, the overarching bureaucratic leaders of all witches. We are told that they are terrible and corrupt. This was an interesting setup, but I felt like there was more telling than showing. What does the Coven do? Why are they thought of as terrible? What do they make their witches do?

The physical settings were described well enough, though my mental images are still a little foggy. I had to build up my own images of Delaney's flat, the areas of the murders, and so on. Also, I know the story was set in Savannah, but I had to check my guess that this was in Georgia. A little more information and setting the scene for international readers would help!

Characters and relationships

There's nothing really new in this book when it comes to the characters. Heroine who stands up to the guys? Check. Tall, muscular and sexy hero with a possessive streak and emotional baggage? Check. Gay best friend? Check. That being said, if you like paranormal romance, this books fits the formula well. The characters weren't bad at all, and I still liked them, but they were a little predictable!

I had two fairly big issues with the characters' reactions in this book:

When Delaney's best friend died, she barely grieved. Neither did their gay best friend, Troy. Within days, they were talking about her like she died years ago.
Delaney was a 26-year-old virgin, but despite experiencing a jolt of pain during her first experience, there is nothing that sets the single explicit scene apart from any other scenes in other romance books with more experienced heroines. I'm sorry, but I just didn't buy it. I felt like she should have been more nervous, or she should have shown some excitement and maybe let Reid know more explicitly. It would have been more relatable if she had been anxious about her first time, even if it was mixed with lust. Hell, isn't it a little nerve-wracking to be with any person for the first time, even if you're not a virgin? I don't know. Maybe I'm just pushing my own feelings onto her.

On the other hand, I rather enjoyed the chemistry between Delaney and Reid, if a bit predictable. Sometimes predictable is good! I could certainly feel the chemistry, and Cyr seemed to enjoy taunting the poor paranormals with plenty of interrupted moments. When it finally bubbled up and over, it was pretty damn hot! There was just one major scene, so Cyr allowed for build-up and plot development rather than letting sex dominate the book.

Writing

I think this is what held the story back the most, though not enough to ruin it. The book was initially self-published and then rereleased digitally through a publishing house, and it shows.

There were a number of typos, enough to make me comment on them. (Again, I have hawk eyes when it comes to errors. Authors, you can use me to your advantage as a beta reader/editor/proofreader.)
Tense changes everywhere! Sometimes between sentences, sometimes within a sentence. Tense changes can be appropriate at times, but I think this book took it too far. It's a pet peeve of mine, but I tried not to let it detract too much from my enjoyment of the book. (See what I did there?)
Too much detail was included all at once when describing people at each meeting. Every time Delaney or Reid saw each other or someone else for the first time in a scene, they would describe what they were wearing. Each member of the inner circle of the Coven was given a full name, which were listed one after the next and then forgotten immediately by me. Sometimes it was relevant, but these details should have been worked into the action-driven sentences, rather than have dedicated sentences to themselves. It simply stopped the flow of the writing.
There was repetition of information that could have simply been referred to rather than explaining it again each time.

That being said, the story was still enjoyable, so the writing was still better than some I've seen recently (coughsparkedcough)! These are things that can all be addressed in future books with a good editor and some self-study, so I have high hopes that Cyr's writing will improve to match the level of her plots.

Overall

While other elements of the book brought down the rating a tad, I still thought the overarching story arc was great and refreshing. I believed I had things figured out fairly early on, but the end surprised me, and it left off on a cliffhanger. Luckily, the second book –The Lightning Legacy– is out, which I'll be jumping on shortly to find out what happens to Delaney, Reid and Mitch!

I loved this book....book one in The Lightning Witch Trilogy. Our main character is young witch Delaney Hagen. Each witch has her own power, but Delaney has a very one and only unique power....she can control lightning. How cool is that? Our hero is the hot sexy wolf shifter Reid Jamison. The wolf was hired by the witch coven to discover who was killing witches and why....only the coven knew exactly why this was happening. Our story takes us all on an exciting ride through the street of the beautiful southern city of Savannah, Georgia. We see how the relationship between Delaney and Reid blossoms into love. There is of course the token "bad guy" character....aka "the killer". One of the things I enjoy about this authors books is the wonderful sense of humor her main female character has.....Delaney sure made me laugh out loud and I thoroughly enjoyed the secondary characters as well. I can't wait to read the next book in this great series!

I received The Lightning Prophecy, book one of the Lightening Witch Trilogy, as a free copy from the author/publisher. The gifting did not determine the review/rating, which reflects my honest opinion.

An interesting plot, with interesting relationships--it took a few chapters for me to get caught up in the story, but I ended up staying awake too long to finish. There are lots of twists in this read, especially the ending-- I didn't see this one coming. The author is good at keeping us on the edge, wondering about alliances and enemies. Good job!

Pretty good.

I did hover between 3 and 4 stars on this, because in places it could do with the application of a really good editor. However, it's a really good story overall, I like the main protagonists, and I'm just about to go and find part 2, so I guess that earns it a 4.

You take a chance when you read a first book by a new author. It could be amazing, so bad you want to claw your eyes out, or somewhere in between. Lucky for me, The Lightning Prophecy was awesome.

For a first book, The Lightning Prophecy is very well written, the editor/proofreader has done a great job of catching any typo’s or general mistakes. I enjoyed the overall tone and lightness of the story. When I say lightness, I am referring to the character’s personalities. There are pretty bad things that happen throughout the book, but I don’t feel like The Lightning Prophecy could be mistaken for a dark fantasy. Someone is killing witches and when someone close to Delaney is found murdered she takes it upon herself to try to solve the mystery herself. The Coven has hired a werewolf named Reid to find the killer, but what is being left out of the story he is being told?

Emily Cyr has created a group of characters that are easy to relate to, have interesting personalities, and unique abilities. Each character is nicely developed and the reader is given enough of the character history to develop an interest in who they are, but not so much it doesn’t leave anything for us to learn in the future.

Personally, I loved this author’s writing style. Her characters tend to talk to themselves to a degree, but I think their internal dialog is important to the development of the story and showing us who they really are.

Delaney is freaking HILARIOUS. Her sense of humor is far too much like mine, so I can definitely relate to that part of her personality. She’s sarcastic and just plain wrong. Just like me! Reid’s sense of humor fits right in. I think that must be why they get along so well. I think the ability to laugh is important for any relationship. There are other characters in this book, but the one other that I feel I MUST mention is Troy. Talk about a Queen! He’s hilarious and very comfortable in his femininity. He cracks me up.

The Lightning Prophecy has a good amount of sexual tension, and the sexy scenes are really steamy. Emily Cyr’s first sex scene was great, I can only imagine how amazing they will be in the future!

I recommend this book to pretty much anyone who likes books about witches with a little bit of mystery thrown in to keep you on your toes! This a great book and I absolutely can’t wait to see how this author continues to grow as her writes more and more books!

LOVE it! I gotta say, the cover attracted me because it reminded me of Percy Jackson book (anyone else??) but the blurb was crazy interesting!

This book blew me away, I was impressed with the quality of the writing, and the really well thought out and detailed world building that we experience throughout the book. I'm a big fan of fantasy books, and this one has edges of urban fantasy, and it was perfect. The author took her time letting us get to know the characters, giving us a few good twists, and really let us have it at the end with that killer cliffhanger!

I love Delaney, she's no pushover, she's got attitude in spades, and life just can't seem to give her a break. She goes through a lot in this book, but she handles it well, and it really allows you to see the character development come into play and her relationship with Reid that werewolf starts to play into it more and more. They make an interesting couple, and I love that it's not one of those "insta-love" situations despite how hot the guy is! ;)

Coming out of the gate for a first book, this author blew me away. It was well edited, it had awesome pacing and the characters were strong, developed and really able to connect with the reader on a deeper level. This book had an interesting concept, I love unlicensed witches, and the whole thought behind why you have to register and the possible abuse of power, and I also really liked that the Coven got involved in supplying Reid, and it's such a conflict for Delaney!

Great writing, steamy sexy scenes, you wouldn't think this was a first book by an author! It really blew me away and I hope I get to read the second one! :)

Delaney can control lightning. No witch is supposed to do that, only water, air, fire and earth. But there's a prophecy that a witch that will be able to wield the power of a god who the druids used to worship before they split into witches and werewolves. And that girl will destroy the witches. Her parents died when she was a little girl and was taken care of by a good and kind witch who knew that Delaney's power had to be hidden. If the witches found out, they could kill her or use her, both which would destroy her.

Her whole life, she was on the run, always changing locations until she became an adult. That's when she put her foot down and stayed in one place. Her caretaker was not very happy. Then one day, a very handsome werewolf walks into her life because he's on a case, investigating murdered witches. And one of them happens to be Delaney's best friend who was a witch too. They are instantly attracted to each other. But both keep resisting it.

Together, they find out what was happening to those witches and they find out more about her power. Along the way, they can't stop themselves from wanting each other, but they are scared to let themselves fall for each other.

Man this was one fun ride. The ending was something that I did NOT expect which I liked. I love surprise twists.

First off, love the cover!
Thw book is an urban fantasy/paranormal set in present day and regular society, which I liked. As a heroine, Delaney, a witch with unique powers, is delightfully innocent, and the hero, Reid, a werewolf, is hot as magma (did I mention in the were/vamp war, I'm totally team were?). I found their attraction to be authentic right from the moment they meet and the author's sex scenes are some of the best written scenes in the book ;-).

To be frank, when I started I didn't expect to enjoy the book because it has more than a few of my pet peeves, namely:
1) It is written in first person and in more than one POV, so sometimes you start a section and you aren't sure who's talking, which takes you out of  the story.
2) Flashbacks! ('nuf said)
3) Repetition - in many cases the author repeats certain pieces of information that I felt were not necessary. However, I didn't find them annoying or obstructive.

The bottom line is, did I enjoy the read? And the answer is yes

First in a trilogy .. an author I haven’t read before & a genre which could go either way for me depending on the writing style, content, pace etc. The story was fairly basic, but moved along at a comfortable pace, a little drawn out in places but the hot scenes made up for that.

I found I had to really concentrate to suspend my disbelief .. if I read it logically it would have been fairly annoying as a subject but by allowing my imagination to flow I could almost see where the author was coming from, that didn’t make it a very relaxing read though & I’m not sure I would choose to read the next in the series but that is simply personal preference & not a criticism of the book.

This is aimed at a younger audience & if you are into witches, fantasy, romance then it would be ideal. I have to say the cover is simply stunning & I’m sure a lot of people would pick the book up based on that alone.

Thanks to the author & Pure Textuality for the opportunity to read this in exchange for my honest opinion.

This book started a little slow for me, but boy before I even hit the second chapter I was hooked. This was the author’s first book and I must say very well written first book. The proofreading and editing were perfect.
This is a story of a very strong willed girl named Delaney who just happens to be a witch who falls in love with a werewolf named Reid. Well someone is going around killing witches, they kill a witch that happens to be a friend of Delaney’s, and she is determined to investigate this on her own to find out who is killing these witches.
The coven has hired Reid to investigate the situation and find the killer, and he sure cannot keep Delaney out of doing her own investigating even though she knows her own life is in danger, she is not going to let anyone try to protect her. It is hard to tell you too much here without throwing in any spoilers. So just pick up a copy and read it, you will not be sorry you read this book.
I am hosting a book tour and a book review for Pure Textuality PR, so they offered this book to me free for hosting for them.

I enjoyed reading this book, it was a little different but I just LOVED the way Emily wrote it! Delaney and Reid had great chemistry and seemed to fit together perfectly!

There are quite a few things that didn’t really get explained in this book, but I’m hoping that they get explored in the next book! There is a lot going on in this book, but the way its written keeps you intrigued and constantly draws you in. I didn’t put it down once I started reading, it was just that good! I am totally looking forward to reading the next book!!
