Six months ago Angus Stark was sent to prison, and no one on the outside has seen him since. Denied the visitor passes that would get her into the prison, Trinity grows more desperate with each passing day, convinced something terrible is happening to him.

She's not wrong.

When the sentencing judge's wife goes missing, Captain Crawford brings Trinity in to help track the woman. She agrees to find Madalyn Bennett--if the judge will let her visit Angus.

After her visit is granted, Trinity becomes even more convinced Angus is in trouble. With her sexy hunting partner at her side, she sets out to track the judge's missing wife.

Every single one of her supernaturals--her men--gather around her to help her free Angus Stark. Because the judge has agreed--if she finds his wife alive, he will give Angus back to her.

As problems arise and the vampire master's hold on her tightens, Clayton's very existence is threatened, and Angus’s situation becomes critical, Trinity discovers that battling demons and killing vampires might be the very least of her troubles...

Bloodhunter ★★★★

First book was great. Second book was awesome.

The body was exhausted but the mind was buzzing from all this deliciousness.
And the sugar rush of the Slovenian hot cocoa.

Caretaker is so damn good I don't even know where to start and probably still won't by the end of this... uhm review.

This second installement is less dark than the first book but is a hell of a roller coaster. It's still very complex, fucked up, bloody, violent and the feels were everywhere. Sadness, anger, love, tenderness, cruelty. Everywhere and in everyone. It's beautiful, painful and wonderfully done.

Every character is different since Angus's capture. Trinity is more level headed and thanks to her supernatural friends she now fights for love instead of hate. Shane came to accept his attraction to Trin and that he can't -won't?- leave her side. The love he shows during the book is almost too much to bear and definitely swoon worthy. Shane Copas is adorable. Never thought I would say that. Clayton is trying to deal with the interdiction of having Trinity's touch and it's breaking him even more. He's a painful character, treated like a slave, tortured and denied what he truly wants. But he's Trinity's and they both know it. Rhys is still as mysterious as ever but we learn a bit more of his abilities. The word badass was probably invented for him. Amias is still a mess, so is Myriam, and Angus, carefree womaniser Angus, has been locked up for six months without being to see Trinity even once.

They're all in a different place but they all have one thing in common: Trinity. And the whole book is about showing how they belong with each other. All of them. It's about them getting back together and accepting the love and the need they all have to be hers. And it's so well done because despite all the supernatural forces that have a say in this, it always feels genuine. It's beautiful and a real delight to read. And once again, I can't wait to read more.

Thank you Laken for providing me this ARC. And get well soon!

Dynamite, emotional, draining, exciting, heartbreaking, uplifting, exhausting and wonderful read. CARETAKER was a study in opposites and I loved it. I am really enjoying this series.

There was an ebb and flow to the darkness in this second installment of the Silverlight series. While there were incredibly dark moments, there were more moments of light. While there were moments of heartbreaking despair, there were also moments of joy. I think this movement away from the unrelieved darkness of BLOODHUNTER made for an overall stronger book, even if I feel like I have been put through the proverbial emotional wringer.

I took my time with the read because I was so enjoying the journey that I was loath to have it end. Yet I couldn’t put it down. I ended up finishing it at 4:30 in the morning - so wiped I couldn’t figure out which end was up, much less sit down to write a review. So, most unusually for someone who tends to write her reviews in the heat of the moment, I let this marinate while I got some sleep. And interestingly, it only emphasized to me how complex and intriguing this world is that Laken Cane has built.

And the characters, oh how I love the characters! Trinity has really developed into an incredible MC – vulnerable yet also strong and resilient. She is someone you really want to root for. Lots of interesting changes for the other key characters from book one.

Amias is such a morally ambiguous character. One moment I loved him and wanted to see Trin let him in and the next I hated him. His character arc will be very interesting, because he has a long way to go to be a fully acceptable love interest. But I do want him to get there – I love the dark characters with the tragic history who require a lot of growth, and who are sexy as hell! Mmm…

Which leads me to Clayton – another character with a tragic past (and present!). A lot of his growth occurred in this book and it was awesome to read. We learn more about Rhys, and I find him fascinating, though I still cannot determine what manner of supernatural he might be. Can’t wait to find out more. Angus broke my heart multiple times in CARETAKER, but he remains one of my favorite characters. I think I like him even more now. He has become incredibly complex, and I can’t wait to dive into what seems to be the deep well of darkness forced upon him. And the character who showed possibly the most growth was Shane. I can’t believe how altered my feelings about him are.

One of the most interesting, heartbreaking, and difficult characters in the book is Miriam. We learn a lot about her in this book, and her story is gut-wrenching and very dark. The evolution of her relationship with Clayton, her interactions with the group, her connection to Trinity… Just wow. *shaking my head*

We are also introduced to a few new characters and spend a bit more time with Captain Crawford (another character full of moral ambiguity). I am most excited by Leo Trask. His character may end up being my favorite. At least, he currently has all the elements that tend to make up great male characters for me. In some ways, he reminds me of Terrence, the troll from Jackie May’s NORA JACOBS series – the huge, dangerous, not outwardly gorgeous guy that is a protective marshmallow at heart. So excited to find out more about him!

I will also note that this series is most definitely NOT slow burn (as I may have thought after reading BLOODHUNTER). There is significant development on the RH front in CARETAKER, including plenty of sexy times. What is interesting is how the author handles the sex scenes. Yes, they can be dark and graphic and hot and overwhelming (uh, sex on a pile of vampire corpses anyone?), but they are not explicit. There is an almost epic and removed quality to the scenes that I find really interesting (and very helpful during the disturbing ones). I don’t know if anyone has read THE FIONAVAR TAPESTRY trilogy by Guy Gavriel Kay or not, but the way Laken Cane handles her love scenes reminds me a little of Kay’s scene between Jennifer and Rakoth Maugrim.

Once again, there is significant social commentary – but once again it is utterly integral to the story. There is no gratuitous discussion, and never once does it feel heavy-handed. Even if it is crushing.

Is it possible to hate humans, even though I am one? LOL

If I have a cavil with this series so far, it would be that I wish it were progressing just a little more slowly to give me more time to savor it. Now, I may totally change how I feel as the series progresses. I don't know where the author plans to go with it, so this may be the perfect pace given everything she has planned. I just tend to be someone who prefers the slow growth of a relationship (all the feels!) and that is something that progressed relatively quickly because of the nature of these particular relationships. Not too big a caveat, however, because there are still plenty of relationships that haven't progressed yet and plenty of growth to happen in those that have already begun. One of the best aspects of the Reverse Harem genre, in my humble opinion!

And as with BLOODHUNTER, there are plenty of potentially triggering issues in CARETAKER. It is violent, bloody, brutal and dark. You have been warned!

But I would not miss this series for the world. It is beautifully rendered and completely engrossing. Now how on earth am I going to stand the wait on Book 3? HIGHLY recommended!

Note: I was provided an ARC by the author in return for my honest review.

UPDATE PROGRESS NOTES:
97% - Whoa! Wormwood as in the cemetery from Rune Alexander? Sweet! I love cross-series connections :)

92% - Ah, I suspected something like this was coming. I love being right!

90% - Oh so conflicted about the vampire thing in this book. Their existence is so devastating! An unusual and interesting take on the trope. Love it!

85% - EEP! Even though I suspected this plot twist was coming from nearly the beginning of the book, the denouement has made it even more. A gutting twist to a character I had started to fall for! Argh. And not sure how Trin is going to cope with this. Speaking of shattering.

82% - Okay that is just awesome. LOVE IT! “Pack your [effing] things and go home. Angus is out of the baby-making business, and his c*ck is spoken for. Nod if you understand what I’m telling you.” *does a little happy dance*

81% - So much curiosity about Rhys! Not a clue what flavor of supernatural he is, but more than one scene gave me a Charon the Boatman feel. LOL

71% - Heartbreaking. I am gutted. Again.

59% - “Dreams are not enough.” No, they are not. Shattered.

56% - Oh, Miriam. God. I am starting to feel a little broken.

51% - Oh no! No! No no nonononononononono…

36% - Wow, I hope the message is there! Otherwise really bad things are happening in the RVPD. Well, really bad things may be happening anyway, but you know what I mean.

35% - Smokin’ hot. Why oh why do I find the hands to the throat thing so bloody HOT?

33% - Not great for timing, are ya, Trin?

30% - You are being foolish again, girl.

26% - Does this mean her turning into a vampire? And if so, how can she feed him then?

13% - Ha! So very true! “My gut tried to keep me safe, but my heart made me rush into danger as fast as I possibly could. It’d be interesting to see which one killed me in the end.” Clearly Trinity still has some issues with impulse control. Guess we can’t eliminate all the flaws too quickly. ;)

10% - Wow. Registrations even. Ouch.

8% - Clearly Trinity still has issues with impulse control. Guess we still needed some flaws to grow out of :)

Intense - that's the word I need to describe this book, I'm still wrapping my head around it.
Intense

Everyone is their own special brand of crazy, even Trinity now is little darker - luckily I happen to love it when the characters are flawed and a little on the psychotic side!

The harem is coming together as everyone accepts they belong with Trinity - she's even picking up a few extra's, some interesting (insert Leo here) and some I'm unsure about (Captain Crawford?)

lets have a run through;
Smexy Vampire - I need more of him please he is so delicious and obsessed with Trinity its wonderful
Asshole Hunter - who is not such an Asshole in this one and is turning into a sweetheart
Mysterious WTF are you Rhys - let's not even go there except to say Rhys & Clay I need more of you
Clayton the broken tortured soul - not even a metaphor there, my heart bleeds for him. Loved him in book 1 and love him more now. He needs all the love Trinity can give him because he bloody needs it.
The horny Bull - still on the fence about him, perhaps its all the kids? unsure but he is taking a trip down psychopath lane after the Byrdcage and needs a lot of loving too

Trinity is the light to all these guys dark and they need her like a flower needs the sun.

There was alot of WTF moments that aren't explained at all you just got to go with the flow;
- the "out of body experience" with Shane in the car ??
- where on earth Amias keeps going off too?
- the graveyard and the way-station?
- Himself?
- Silverlight at the end? Major WTF there
- Rhys?

Overall a great series, couldn't put this down the action is packed and the sex scenes keep getting hotter, and intense, again intense
We still have a lot to discover about most of the characters and I can't wait to find out

all aboard the crazy train to book 3
yes please

Don't blink and hold on tight, Caretaker is fast and furious, Trinity Sinclair is out to rescue one of her own, if she has to appease the local authorities along the way, so be it, but nothing and no one is getting between her and hers.

I really loved this book, it was even better than the book before, which bodes well for book #3 in the Silverlight series. In true Laken Cane fashion, the characters are each strong in their own right, but stronger together, and can we talk about the men, 'cuz danggggg. I'm loving this series and look forward to more of Trinity and her band of merry men.

I've gotta say your books are fantastic Laken Cane! In Caretaker Trinity is on a quest to free Angus Stark from the supernatural prison he has been sent to. In order to do that she must find the missing wife of the judge who sentenced him. She also wants to free Clayton and find out what Rhys is. Will she find the wife? Can she get Angus out. Will she be able to free Clayton from Miriam's clutches? This was another awesome installation of paranormal wonderfulness that will leave you wanting more. I definitely recommend this book!

I love it when an author can take my emotions to the highest highs and the lowest lows. I don't like to give away spoilers but if you loved the first book (and let's be honest, who didn't? ) then this book is for you. trinity is one of my favorite characters. she is so flawed, but so amazing.i wish the new book was out now. I need moar! Ms. Cane has exceeded my expectations, and don't worry about the sophomore slump curse in this series. it hasn't happened for which I'm exodus grateful.

This was just amazing!

Intense, action packed, emotional, sexy, kick ass...it really felt like this book had everything I want from a UF and RH series.

Trinity is an awesome character. She's brave, loyal and tough, as well as being kick ass and vulnerable at the same time.

All the men are oh so yummy and diverse. I don't even have a favourite! I love the different relationships they have with Trinity band how there is no RH drama. They're all cool with the situation, which is great as I hate unnecessary RH drama!

I feel like the world building got so much deeper and more interesting as well in this installment.

If you like UF that is on the darker side, with RH as a bonus, then pick up this book...but only after you've read the first one!

Hot!!

Laken Cane really delivers with the second installment of Silverlight. This book has some really amazingly hot scenes and I’m still a huge fan of Clayton.
We see more in depth character development in this book which I love. We also get a nice little surprise at the end... which Laken Cane fans will LOVE!

This book gave me all the Feels!!! Amazing...Captivating...I Loved learning more about each character! Angus and Clayton are still my favorite characters but Rhys, and Shane really jumped up to almost tying with them for first:). Each character has worked their way into my heart in his/her own way! Except Amias... I think he enjoys having a love/hate relationship with me haha. Overall amazing book cannot wait to see what book 3 will bring!!! Oh and P.S loved the Wormwood appearance!

Wow guys!!!! Caretaker was full of action. Once I started from page one, I did not stop until I was done. Lots of things happening, from fighting to advances on certain romance fronts. We went from slow burnish to BAM!!! I freaking loved, loved it!! I was like hell yeah Trinity, Get it Girl!!! The action sequences as always with a Laken Cane story are well detailed and keeps you riveted. There was something happening constantly. Now on to the characters we love and the one we love to hate. Angus, that man is my favorite. He is fun, frisky and loves Trinity so much. And loves kids, as evident by the many he has. Shane, which I enjoyed these two together very much. The chemistry that these two have is hot! I was always entertained with their banter, and their scenes together had me needing more. Clayton, I feel for him so much. The chemistry between him and Trinity is just like with Shane, so freaking hot. Those two can convey so much with just a look. Rhys, I need to know more about him. We get alittle more of a glimpse of him in this book, but I need more. Amias, he is still in the love to hate him stage. And of course we have Miriam, I really got to where I disliked her in this one, who am I kidding I hated her in book one too. In conclusion, read Bloodhunter first to enjoy Caretaker to the fullest. Guys, this is one hell of a series, don't miss it.

Caretaker, the second book of the Silverlight series, is even better than the first. Laken draws you into Trinity s world flawlessly. You fall in love with all of the characters from the start. You get so immersed that you feel all the emotions the characters do. It's a beautiful thing to have an author write this good and Laken Cane does that. Another wonderful series.

Merged review:

Flawless

Another great read!!! This book is better than the first. You'll be drawn into Trinity s world from the first page. This series is another must have. Laken Cane gives you everything you'd ever want in your reading & more.

Finally picked it back up!

I had started to read this series last year but didn’t pick up the second book until now, and that’s probably for the best because the rest of the series is finished and I can read them back to back.

I like how there is so much action, it’s not about sex and whilst there’s a lot of attraction and innuendos thrown around there is a well thought out story there.

I’ve always liked the supernatural fantasy genre and it’s great how this series has bit of everything. It’s a full length as well so it’s doesn’t have a cliffy but each book has its own new adventure.

The level of excitement I had for this read surprised even me. I read with both tears in my eyes and a smile on my face; listening to my perfectly compiled companion playlist all the while. 2018 is the year of the WOMAN, and Trinity is taking it to heart with her Harem of multi-talented and useful MEN. She owns her story, takes her adversaries to task, and isn't ashamed to quench her thirsts along the way.

This one definitely activated my pvcs btw, is it hot in here?!

I can't wait to see how these characters and relationships grow, change, and break my heart. And I really can't wait to see how my theories play out in the near future.

Enjoyed is a massive understatement

So solid 5 star rating! I would give more is only I could.
The installment to this series just keeps getting better. I loved the last one but this one even told that. I love where the author is taking this series. Not really sure exactly where but I'm enjoying the twists, the new characters and the action.
The author created another incredible world with this series and I'm looking forward to more....
So with that in mind, Ms. Cane, you need to write faster cause this reader needs more.

Fan-f***ing-tastic! Wow, what a book! This is the second in a brand new series by Laken and I love it so much already.
I absolutely adore the style of Lakens writing and once again I have been blown away with how brilliant and creative she is. I’m in love with all the characters of the book and the storyline is an action packed storyline that you never knew where it was going next.
I hate giving anything away about books so all I can say is, if you enjoyed book one, you are going to want to read book two as soon as you can.

Love this new addition to the Silverlight series! This book was awesome! It was even better than the first one. I loved learning more about Rhys and the other guys and seeing the relationships between the characters flesh out as they grow together. The story is great and kept me reading with almost no stopping. (Sadly, nature and the small people who try to run my life called me away a few times. *) There is so much in this book that I can’t wait to learn more about in the next one. I hope it’s out soon!

I love Laken Cane’s work and this novel lives beautifully up to my expectations. Eloquent, insightful, imaginative and sexy. The characters have a deep three dimensional quality with complexity and diversity and the plotline simultaneously has ongoing threads that draw out a bigger level of concurrent, interwoven stories. Thank god I can go straight onto book three.

Love it!!

I love this series, author Laken Cane has created a strong female lead, with a weird but fantastic cast of supporting characters. I had a very annoying start, it was so slow for me so i had to read some other books in between. I don't know why, but i could'nt continue reading it cuz it was not keeping my interest i asume. But after 40% of the book i was more into it and then it became better and i finished it

It leaves us with a lot of questions in the end and it's a lot of things i want answers too

I need the next one

It is not news that Laken Cane likes dark stories with MCs that have questionable choices at best ..
I tried reading her other series Rune alexander and could not like it really
I try to find the good things in everything I read and every main character but honestly some authors just struggle to present an authentic type of character and I could not find a good thing in these books to hold on to it was completely overshadowed by the ugliness of the MCs relationship with her maker ...

I ahve to confess I do have trouble with her MC because they have no idea what Rape is and seem to always romancize that act by making it like it was fated that she had sex with someone she hates because simply he is her master vampire or because she was in a dark place and only having sex with someone who killed your whole family ,someone you hate and feel rage when you see him only then will you be ok!!!!!!!!!!!!

Should I even try to point all the fucked up shit that just happened...and by her own words she says she is fucked up so it’s not even me saying it..yet she is the light to those around her?????
Are you fucking kidding me right now!!!!!

Please be mindful of those of us that actually experienced rape and still struggle with it after years and years and have to deal with flashbacks and triggers and other shit that I don’t have the time or space to talk about

Do not write something unless you have a sense of what you are writing about and please put something for those of us who were blindsided by this book and that it might contain a trigger for us

Not a huge fan of the reverse harem trope that's cropped up, but I really like this author and this book was a pretty good read despite that.
It had some of the things I liked about the Rune series, though it isn't so dark yet.
I'm not gun-ho serious about reading the next one, this was a surprise I didn't know was coming so I grabbed it to read last night, but I enjoy it while I'm reading it.
It is hard to explain... If you want some nice entertainment with some sexy times, a little violence, and an interesting world unfolding before you this is a good choice.

The ending was mostly a surprise. I had expected, due to the timing, that one character was behind the main problem, but I was very wrong. I was happy with how it ended.
I find the whole gathering up men for specific roles kinda interesting. Each man fills a certain role in her life and has his own brand of hotness. I love what happened to Mirrum I hope she stays there, but I won't keep my hopes up. It's totally "killin' time" for that chick to quote one of my favorite characters Dee Ann Smith.
I'm totally looking forward to seeing what all it entails to be a caretaker for this waypoint or whatever. I really liked the character of the "prince of darkness" how intriguing.
