About the author

T.K. Perry

3 books111 followers
T.K. Perry lives with her husband and daughter in a lovely Oregon forest filled with wildlife (there is probably a house, too, but that's less picturesque). When she isn't writing or watching said wildlife, she enjoys making jewelry, pretending to be a photographer, and trying to save the world (a frustrating task since she lacks both superpowers and a costume).

T.K. has a B.A. in International Relations from Brigham Young University, an M.A. in International Politics from the University of Denver Graduate School of International Studies, a J.D. from the University of Denver College of Law, and a LL.M. in Environmental, Natural Resources, and Energy Law from Lewis & Clark Law School. Law is her profession, but writing is a favorite hobby.

T.K. Perry has created such a cool world with her The Winged series, and I thoroughly enjoyed diving back into it! I really liked Elissa Blue, but I LOVED Lexi Monarch :) I loved her desire for more than she her circumstances allowed, and her determination to go outside her comfort zone to get it. Quick, engaging read kept me up late at night. I hope there's more coming in this series - it's a fun one.

I won this book in a goodreads drawing.

A human/butterfly hybrid princess doesn't like her suitors, so she decides to go to Mating Mountain to find one she can love. Everybody's been flashing their pheromones at her. Unfortunately, the thing is telegraphed from the first pages.

Others might like it a lot more.

It was so fun to read the second book published by my friend, T.K. Perry! As with the first book in this series, I could hardly put this down. The new characters introduced in this book were fun and engaging, and it was nice to get some closure with some of the characters from the last book. This is not a genre I would usually read, but it was a fun and light read that I thoroughly enjoyed.

It was a cute read that had be anxious from the very beginning. Lexi is more relatable I find then Elissa was in the first book. Even though she is a princess and deals with a lot of stress she seems more human. So many things seem to go wrong in this book. You want Lexi to find love and get married and love happily ever after but there are so many things that get in her way. This book has some really great characters that will win their way into your heart. If you liked the first book Elissa Blue then you will love this one.

Lexi (18) - Princess in search of love

What a surprisingly good story! I purposely didn't read the blurb again so I wouldn't know what the story was about! The concept of a Mating Mountain to go find your life-partner was intriguing in this winged world. It's been a while since I've read a fantasy book, but the world created was so familiar and foreign at the same time. I guess you can't escape douchebags no matter what world you live in =p

The personalities of the characters leapt off the page so effortlessy, I found the story so engrossing, I just wanted to know who Lexi would end up with!

A very enjoyable book to read. Thank you for the giving me the opportunity to read and review this well-written story.

In my opinion, young girls might find this a fascinating story where they could relate to the main character's emotional ups and downs as well as independent thinking and action. It could give an understanding of young boys and how different their expectations and treatment can be in new relationships with young women.

A lovely coming of age story with very unique characters and a happy ending. Entices me to read the Lexi Monarch #1 book.

This is the second book in a series delving in the fascinating world of human/butterfly hybrids. The action overlaps the ending of Book One with the dramatic escape of Lexi Monarch, the youngest daughter of the king and queen of this post-apocalyptic world. Lexi is a much more likeable character than Elissa (the heroine of the first story), although she goes through a similar “stupid” period under the influence of the mating pheromones emitted by certain males on the Mating Mountain.

The author does a great job of creating a rich fantasy world for her unique creatures – human/butterfly hybrids immune to most common maladies – although there are some incongruities and, to be fair, a lot goes unexplained. Such a unique landscape should have been fleshed out more to provide depth as well as logic. Immediately after a traumatic wing birth, the principal preoccupation for the hybrids is to mate and produce offspring during their only fertile period which, inexplicably, can last from one week to a year. So, why do they have wings which are only capable of flight for that short in-season period? The rest of their lives they have to worry about these bulky but fragile useless appendages.

As in the first book, the main themes relate to sexuality, lovemaking, violence and consent, but also friendship and fair treatment of people of all classes. Again, a curious religious element makes a late and confusing appearance in a world which seems to have no place for it.

I really enjoyed the author’s sense of fun in naming some of the players. The hybrids take their last name from the type of wings they sprout. Lexi has the wings of a Monarch butterfly, inherited from her royal father. Members of the second tier of nobles are called Viceroy, a type of butterfly with wing patterns very similar to the Monarch. In researching this, I found that the genus name is Limenitis, which explains why the main Viceroy character is called Limen. Also the admissions clerk has the wings of a Blue butterfly. The tailed Blues (called Cupido and sometimes Everes) obviously inspired the names of Elissa’s father, Eros (Cupid’s Greek equivalent), and her brother Everes. And, finally, Lexi’s best friend Tiger is a Swallowtail, taking his name from the Tiger Swallowtail variety. There are many other delightful examples of this indepth research.

The story ending hints at a HEA, but there is a twist that I did not foresee. A well-written book with only a few editing issues towards the end. If you enjoy clean fantasy with a large cast of characters, this might be a good choice for you.

I had a really good time reading this book. Firstly I absolutely loved the cover of the book, like just take a minute to appreciate this beauty.
Now coming to the point, The writing style was excellent, the language used was lucid.
I absolutely loved living in the world created by the author, its so pure and beautifully cladded.
The character development was good.  I could connect with Lexi (the protagonist) i liked the  way her struggles as a princess is portrayed in this book.  Alongside i loved her fierce personality and the Charismatic attitude that she upholds. It was really nice meeting Elissa & Mit after a fairly long time.  But i really feel sorry for Cam, he really deserved good on his path, hence i really wish that the author extends this duology & gives cam along with the characters from the previous book a good life! Secondly, i absolutely adored the  I-DIDN'T-EXPECT-THAT-TO-COME kinda movement when the plot twist came up.
This gave the story a whole new outlook!
Though, i expected this book to be a continuation of the lifes of Elissa , mit, everes and others,  I enjoyed the unexpected story that it had to offer.

As always, the suspense was caught up till the end which made it a very gripping read.

Overall, this was a very pleasant, innovative, interesting and a fantastic read.

I thoroughly loved reading the second book in The Winged series. Since Princess Lexi's mother, the Queen, has arranged a marriage for her to Prince Talan, Lexi flees to the Mating Mountain. Talan follows her, Prince Van is also at the Mating Mountain, she has a run in with a notorious man who steels woman's virtues, and finally finds her best friend, Tiger. Read the highly recommended and wonderfully written novel full of suspense and romance.

I received this book from a Goodreads Giveaway.
The world the writer has created is unique and different.
However, I found myself unable to connect with the characters (in this one, as well as the first one). I could never put my finger on why - i just couldn’t connect.

I enjoyed reading it, though I feel as though the prologue was not well formatted and worded. I loved the story, especially in scenes where Lexi took charge and gave males crap for trying to order her around.
