A custard cream shared… Just when Jill doesn’t think anything else could surprise her, something does. And not in a good way. …is half a custard cream I don’t get to eat.
Meh, this is getting worse and worse, there is no sense in it, scene after scene with no sense (that´s a weird sentence ha :D ). The crime part, can we even call that a crime part anymore? So boring. The only thing I enjoyed was the fantasy part, the issue with the pixies, that was it. I used to like this serie as it was so easy to read, so relaxing, but the last couple of books just are not doing it anymore for me. It´s the same over and over, it gets very boring. Just to think there is 38 books in this serie according to the author´s webpage, like what? She needs to come with something interesting soon, or I will give up on it.
This is the latest novella in this series I've read, and each on I rated 3-4 stars more 4's then 3. I'm not going to keep reviewing them, you can read the 1st 10 to see what I thought or you can download the first one for free on Amazon I really recommend you do that if you like witch stories or funny British humor.
This was a definite improvement over previous installments. There was actual plot and the secondary characters weren't so annoying. It had the qualities of the first books in the series and reminded me why I fell in love with this fun, fluffy story.
My favorite Witch P.I., Jill Gooder, is back in this 19th (!!) installment, serving up plenty of wacky adventures (lots involve Winky, her 1 eyed talking cat) as she investigates several cases in both the 'sup' (supernatural) world of Candlestick and the human world of Washbridge. Missing pixies, missing human fisherman, murdered man in a freezer--Jill uses her witchy skills like 'shrink', 'invisibility', & 'doppelganger' to get the real scoop behind the mysteries. Meanwhile, she's dealing with having 2 p.a.s, a new landlord who wants an excuse to break her 30 year lease, and keeping her human & witch lives separate, Living with Jack, a police detective, keeps Jill happy, at least until they have to deal with their neighbors... Humorous mysteries with lots of sup characters from wizards to ghosts to werewolves and the Rogue Retrievers who hunt the bad apples who break the rules in the human world. Easy to read and quite addictive, the entire series allow readers some escape, and go down as easily as a frosty Margarita on a hot summer evening.
On the negative side, Winky is yet again able to pull the wool over Jill's eyes and once again she chooses to keep a cat that lies and runs up her credit cards, at the same time contributing virtually nothing to her work.
There are some pixies that have gone missing, possible trouble with a wizard's wife, a neighbor that moves and is replaced by a smart-mouth college student, yet another misuse of magic by her Grandma that she will get away with and yet another massively dumb idea by Amber and Pearl.
There's also a new landlord with, you guessed it, yet another attempt to kick Jill out of her office.
Jill does manage to do good work on her cases, she learns a major new spell and she manages to get somewhere that she's not supposed to be able to reach.
The interesting parts still manage to (barely) outweigh the rather stupid parts of the book. The fact that her grandmother gets away with all sorts of things though is a bad message to send to the readers. Another person who is powerful who can get away with anything they want and are never held accountable for their actions.
A very entertaining urban fantasy/cozy mystery series. Jill good or a private investigator in the human world one-day finds out she is actually a witch. Her adoptive father who was API and left her the business and her adoptive sister and her family in the human world. She learns she also has an aunt some cousins and a grandmother in the supernatural world. When she meets her mother Who used to be a witch until she died and is now a ghost who can visit Jill. Follow along as she straddles both worlds and solves mysteries murder and adventures in both. A very entertaining series with a very cheeky lead character and group of friends. Check it out
I really enjoyed reading this book and the many mysteries it contained, big and small. Sometimes Jill seems to bumble along, but she’s really quite clever and always manages to figure things out in the end. In this book, ghosts get a bigger role and we get to meet some pixies, but the real fun of the book is that in spite of Jill’s hard work, Grandma gets the last word.
I'm on book 21. A thoroughly enjoyable read during this pandemic. The main character, a Private Investigator, learns she is a Witch. The story is entertaining, the cases keep you guessing. Fun characters, including a cat,, dog, and hamster who make life even crazier for the character. Cozy Mystery, plus, Laugh out loud moments. Thank you Adele Abbott. Nanette
I don't know how she does it but I'm glad she does. Ms. Abbot is turning out Candlefield books like crazy, and what's more, over time, they've gotten better and better. She also has announced that there are many more to come. And that's great for me. They are light and entertaining and I'm fond of our witch P.I., so they're always welcome.
Just when I thought things were getting better and there were less mistakes, this one has 6! I’m not sure if it is a difference between UK English and US English, but some mistakes were most definitely mistakes. Please do better in future books.
I really enjoyed Which Is Why The Music Stopped. There was plenty of action, mystery and witchiness. After 19 books Adele Abbott is still writing strong and I'm loving it!
I really love this series. Jill cracks me up with her interactions with her cousins, Aunty Lucy, her animals in both worlds makes me laugh. I like how she tries to help sups in the human world while trying to hide her abilities.
I've been reading this series since it started and I honestly can't believe we are on book 19! The author does an excellent job with all of the mysteries and they are never boring or repeated. I love the cheeky British humor and slang, it's delightful.
What can I say that hasn't been stated before! Jill and everyone involved with her make for great reading. Even the one eyed cat keeps you guessing. Magic, Witches, Wizards and ghosts! Oh my!
Although this series doesn't delve too deep into Jill's relationship with Jack, this one shows the meaning of the relationship. This is also the first time I have guessed as to the culprit in one of her PI cases, but I still thoroughly enjoyed it. Excellent as always.
I have enjoyed the entire series. I like Jill's sense of humor. It makes me laugh out loud. The stories are a quick read. I have had to look up a few things about foods from England as I didn't know what they were here in America. The investigations are cute.
Witch Is Why The Music Stopped (A Witch P.I.Mystery Book 19)
This was a very good book how ever I do wish the author had done more to make it more interesting.I look forward to reading more of this author's work.
Absolutely wonderful characters that interact with each other beautiful! Fabulous plot twists and turns that will keep you on the edge of your seat. I highly recommend this series.
Pixies, moonlight gyms, a badly behaved cat and neighbour along with a visit to a troll and a golden wedding anniversary invite. Jill manages to visit GT! All in all a lot happening in this installment!! Onto the next!!
I like the supporting characters in this series and I liked finding more out about the "sup" world. But for some reason, Jill is just getting on my nerves.
I love this series!!!! Jill is a awesome witch and detective!!! I love reading what Winky is up to!! And of course what Jack and Jill's family is up to, also!!!
This one is better than the last two or so as there is more of a plot again, wth development. Shame though, that I was not able to borrow it on prime anymore though
