Because you’re never too old for Faerie Tales...

Halflings born in the human realm can stay if they can pass for human, but a baby with bright red and yellow hair, pointed ears, glowing green eyes, and swirled purple and green nails had to be relocated. With no family in Faerie to claim her, the newborn was auctioned off as a slave.

In Faerie, slaves are property with no rights. The baby is now an adult, and has been given in tribute to The Winter Queen.

Queen Mab has worked hard to make everyone in Faerie fear her, but her new pleasure slave enjoys the kiss of her whip. Can the Dark Queen have a tender side? The Dragon King once loved her, after all, so there has to be more to her than the evil, ruthless queen we’ve seen so far.

Climb aboard and experience the best and worst the Winter Queen can dish out.

Slave is book one in the Dark(ish) Faerie Tale quadrilogy. The series takes place within the greater Kirstin O’Shea universe, but can be read without being familiar with the other books and series.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Candace Blevins writes urban fantasy, paranormal romance, epic fantasy contemporary BDSM romance, and two kick-ass motorcycle club series. She’s published more than fifty books. Candace lives with her husband of twenty-four years and their two teenaged daughters. The family’s beloved, goofy, retired racing greyhounds are usually at her side as she writes, quietly keeping her company. Or sometimes not so quietly.

Her urban fantasy series, Only Human, gives us a world where weredragons, werewolves, werelions, three different species of vampires, and a variety of other mythological beings exist.

Candace's various paranormal romance series are all sister series to the Only Human series, and give some secondary characters their happily ever after.

Her Dark(ish) Faerie Tale series gives us a close-up and personal look at Queen Mab, and her Dark Underbelly series is, as you’d expect, dark and (if you’re a little twisted) oh-so-yummy.

Her contemporary Safeword series gives us characters who happen to have some extreme kinks. Relationships can be difficult enough without throwing power exchange into the mix, and her books show characters who care enough about each other to fight to make the relationship work. Each couple in the Safeword series gives the reader a different take on the lifestyle.

Beware of the fae, because they may just steal your soul with a promise. In Slave, Ms. Candace's dark side runs wild and this is just the beginning. There are still three books to follow. Prepare to be aroused and maybe terrified. This story is intense, passionate and sadistic in all the right ways.

Full disclosure, I read the original unedited serial version on the mobile app platform, Radish. I loved the serial story which is now split into a lovely quartet. I couldn't figure out how Ms. Blevins could make this story any better. Because the story on Radish is deliciously depraved and filled with sadistic kink. Is this SSC BDSM? Nope. Is this even RACK? Double nope. This is a story based in the fae world with one of the main characters ... the DARK QUEEN. Dark fae are notoriously known as sadistic scary monsters that bring nightmares. Mab is the queen of them all. Her dungeon is no "red room" for a slap and a tickle. There are no safewords in this world. This is BDSM fantasy brought to life with vivid imagery and sexual tension.

This story is more than the sexual slavery "little one" suffers at the hands of her various owner. Little one's story slowly unfolds one lash at a time. As Queen Mab puts little one through her paces, a spark ignites and this tale becomes an erotic love story. This revised version adds nuances that enrich the character interactions. Love and devotion emote from the pages as little one cries out in tortured passion. Fleshing out Queen Mab's motives and how she feels about her little one makes me fall a bit more in love with this dark queen. I've been wanting Queen Mab's story for so long. To see how she nurtures her slaves and treats her servants, it is impressive. They fear, respect and love her. Quite honestly, after glimpsing into her life, it is hard to say no to Queen Mab. Her deviant desires translate to excruciatingly agonizing yet sweetly tender for her slaves and servants alike. For those who are submissive, Queen Mab is a drug we crave.

Surprisingly, this story is not focused on Queen Mab. She is a dominating figure and yet it is little one who steals the limelight with her graceful suffering and unquestioning obedience. Her submission is impressive. Since this is a world which takes place in a fantasy place, the kink does go to the extreme and little one's ability to take what happens to her may make many a readers cringe. The plot twist in this story leaves a reader wanting more. Looking forward to the next installment and seeing how an already fantastic story gets even better.

Candace Blevins totally surprised me with Slave. I was expecting Queen Mab to be a total bitch from reading her in other stories but I actually found her to be tough but kind, demanding yet loving. And, I can honestly say, I loved that Candace's kinky imagination was back in full force. I adore her storytelling abilities but absolutely love her kinky and BDSM stories.

The transformation of Little One into Tabitha was completely amazing. Watching Little One fall in love with the Dark Queen was amazing. What she wouldn't do to please her Queen was boundless. She was brought up to be a slave and knew her place within the hierarchy of the Fae Realm. But, when her true family is found, her way of life, her way of thinking is brutally uprooted. Now, she's Tabitha with a real family and a life that she has no idea of how to navigate. She's lost her love, she's lost the pain that she needs and, she feels like she lost herself.

The Dark Queen does have a heart. One that is breaking as she gives her Little One a name and sends her on her way. She's never felt fully loved as she had with her. She's never had anyone truly give her heart to her. It's breaking her but she knows that it's the right thing to do. In her heart of hearts, she knows that she can't give her up forever and will find a way to bring her home.
What will the future bring for Little One? I am sure that Candace Blevins will surprise us with some kind of twist that brings Tabitha back to Mab.

I loved the kinky in this story … there was a lot of bondage, domination and S/m in this story but it is no where near BDSM since nothing was consensual. If Candace Blevins taught me anything, it was the difference between Kink and BDSM. And, she is the most wonderful storyteller of this kind of book. She brings these scenes to life, she lets you feel the peace in being submissive and the excitement of being masochistic. She also brings you into their heads, lets you know what they are feeling and why. I am definitely looking forward to Lady, the next book in this series, to see where she is taking us next on Little One's journey.

As beginnings go, this First of Four (sounds like a Borg, and that feel is actually apropos) dumps character, and consequently reader, right into the deep end. At first blush it seems straight up erotica, but there is a slow and steady evolution of the Slave for certain, but also of Mab the Winter Queen.

I was never been a fan of Mab in her previously brief but memorably intense appearances in the Kirsten O'Shea Universe, but this introductory instalment in the series is a really good reminder not to judge formerly secondary characters by their prior manifestation. In the context of the previously undetailed world of Faerie, her position, purpose and outlook all begin to make sense and so her edge is easier to understand and accept. Her true character shows in her "if you love someone, let them go" moment.

Little One's back-story is kind of gruesome without context; hence the prior comment about the "deep end". But the shock and awe of the introductory chapters only makes her journey to self-actualization much more powerful, and a reader's investment in her continuing story all the more ensured. "Tabby" begins to emerge by the end of book one, and while her soul has not changed (and I suspect it never will), how she starts to see herself can only enrich the story to come.

I am not generally a fan of series. I like to read a story start to finish in one setting, and I don't care if its an epic. I'd rather get the whole story, one-and-done. But there is no major OMG cliffhanger here, and its pretty clear where this is going if not exactly how we are all going to get there. And if I have learned one thing being a reader of Candace Blevins' books, its to expect the unexpected. I am loving the deeper look into Mab, the Queen and the woman, as well as what I call "Faerie 101" because the whole Fae thing can be complicated with its rules and its exceptions. In Candace's Faerie it is intricate but not complicated, and the intricacies heighten rather than frustrate. This is an engrossing start to a story I need to see to the end.

Wow, that was, that was really, really good!

I felt like I was there, with Little One, with the Queen, living in the world with them, feeling what they felt. This wasn't overly and in your face, but a wave, a mood, a fog, that swirled around you and brought you there with the characters. You were in the world, on their journey, and feeling their feelings while they experienced events. You didn't feel the events, but the feelings, that is what makes this world, this story, these characters, stand out and leave a stamp on you

This is the story of a slave, and her Queen, and I was right there with them, and loved every second

Oh Candace, what a wonderful tale you've woven here. The Dark Queen and her little one. I've fallen in love with both women, from their strengths to their vulnerabilities. Your words paint such colorful pictures in my imagination. You made my eyes leak... a tissue warning would of been nice. 😁 Made my undies spontaneously combust too! 🌋🌋🌋 Patiently, impatiently waiting for the next book!!!!

If you have ever read BDSM and thought “what could you do if magic healed and the submissive enjoyed pain,” this book answers that quite well. Our main character is a pleasure slave who has been given to the Winter Queen of Faery – Mab. We’ve seen Mab before in other books by this author and know that she is sadistic and dominant by nature. The slave, now known as Little One, has been trained to enjoy pain all her life, so it is a good match between Queen and slave.

Wow, what a rough and varied experience Little One has with her Queen every day and night. Sometimes I was very uncomfortable reading what was going on but at the same time, I was left thinking that the two main characters found such fulfillment in those same situations. I did enjoy seeing how Queen Mab thought and how Little One grew emotionally.

The majority of the story is from Little One’s point of view. Her POV on what was happening really showed me a completely different side of how Queen Mab’s castle ran. Readers of Candace Blevin’s other works that took place in Faery had a bit of an idea but this story showed how varied the environment was.

There is a point in the story that I was shocked and wondering where we went from here. I cannot wait to read the next book.

I did not think that I would like this book at all. I don’t typically read this type of story. But I love Candace Blevins and have read everything she has written, so I took a chance. I am so glad that I did! I LOVE this book. Love, love, love it. I don’t want to give any spoilers so I will just leave it at that. Take a chance and pick it up, you won’t be sorry.

An extremely colorful seductive twist in a dark adult faerie tale. It is spun on a Dark Queen story but here she is very dark yet you see a side of her with 'little one" who is the Half human and faerie. She is a slave with no real name so little one by Queen Mab since she was a gift from another person to her. She was a pleasure slave.
(Now this being an adult story if you are not comfortable reading very detailed sexual acts, then you may find this book, is not your type. I read all types as a book reviewer I have learned to adapt.)
This story I read in one sitting it had me very interested and was a page-turner. Little one she went through so much yet she did it for the Queen for her love and her respect in some odd twist warped mind of hers. She was trained to endure pain, and expect it, and was raised with it since she was a child. So much goes on in this book, so many rewards, and disappointments and then some unexpected things. Life wasn't kind to little one. But this is a faerie tale anything can happen. Guess What? It does when she least expects it. Now I have to read the next book to see how it continues. There is more just not giving too much information. I was given an ARC copy in return for my honest voluntary review. Warning watch out for Giants and Rabbits. =D.

Candace Blevins does it again her newest release 'Slave' redefines what we expect to see in a writer such as Candace. I'd love the story, the characters the world she's created I'd been looking forward to reading and wasn't and it met my expectations and beyond.

Slave is just the first story with a couple of others to follow. Intense and so passionate and even dabbles in the dark. Faery is faery you can't just put it in a box, magic, dark, dangerous, harsh sexy all of that makes up this world that Candace created for us.

OMG I love Mab!! Her personality just oozed off the pages, you can see, feel her haughtiness and she was a damn terror. (smile) wouldn't trade her for anything she just simply rocks.

The Slave - a gift? a beautiful homage to the Winter Queen? or was it more a pawn off because she couldn't be handled? *shrugs* their loss and the Queen's gain right?

Get ready to feel. Feel the need and the want. How a body is pushed, how the need is recognized. How the suited suits. I'm so excited about this series and can't wait for more.

I wasn't sure what to expect with this story, this Faerie Tale is unlike any I’ve read before and I totally loved it.

I was very excited to read more about Queen Mab, she fascinates me because of the glimpses we've seen of her in previous books, though in those scenes she was not very nice, there has to be more to her right?

Slave otherwise known as Little One, began her life in not a pleasant way, I’m glad Little One got to see living as a slave differently than her previous owner. Being with Queen Mab she finds she likes that she is her new plaything. She loves the pleasure that pain brings her and Queen Mab knows how to deliver it.

Towards the end of this installment, revelations bring about a plot twist I did not see coming. I cannot wait to find out how things play out in the next installment. There will be a total of four, so be prepared!

I traveled through the story with trepidation at first then amazement at how the characters just seemed so real. I also have to remember, this is Fae Realm and things aren’t always what they seem.

I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book.

THIS is like nothing else out there !!! its a tale from the Fearie but to call it a Fearie Tale is ok if you are Candace Blevins :-p

I love when any character falls deep in love, even if its a scary one like Queen Mabe, but still, this one got me filled with question marks, and its a good thing I'm used to Candace plot twists and how she likes her "not-necessary-horizontal-activities", but still this book made me go WTF couple of times, but if you know Candace books, you know she makes up with good plots and her humor.

Slave is a first book in a four book series, and let me tell you, I need the next book, like an hour ago !!!!!
The fraze "Little one" will never be the same again after this.

People you have to read this, its a Candace Fearie Tale at its best, and its not something she dabs into so often.

Queen Mab, the Winter Queen, the Dark Queen, is gifted another slave.
Checking out the new addition to her stable, she's surprised to find an intriguing little pleasure slave with extraordinary coloring and a burning desire to please her Queen.
With seductive language and her usual prolific imagination, Ms Blevins weaves a colorful, seductive tale, peopling the realm of the Winter Queen with a lush assortment of characters that will make you blissfully shocked, sometimes angry and always deeply involved in the story of Queen Mab and her little one.

Slave is book one in the Dark(ish) Faerie Tale quadrilogy. The series takes place within the greater Kirsten O'Shea universe, but can be read without being familiar with the other books and series.

Slave is an erotic and dark fantasy tale of a young halfling’s life as a slave. Little One is a strong character that easily draws readers into her world with vivid and in depth descriptions that make it easy for readers to imagine and the poignant atmosphere gives readers an understanding of the character and the world in which lives. The steady paced and smooth flowing plot builds anticipation while it heats up the pages and singes readers with its intense and emotional air. The author does a great job of describing the story and characters that readers can practically feel the intensity of this story. The story is so full of suspense and Little One is so enthralling that readers really want to continue her story and find out what happens next.

The story is the first part of a four book serial that must be read in order to get the full enjoyment of the series. Beware that the story is full of erotic scenes some of which may be too much for sensitive readers.

Admittedly, this is the first time that I have truly delved into this dark romance genre. I decided to give it a try, and even though not every part was for me, it was still an excellent read! Little One has never had to make any decisions for herself, even deciding what she wants to eat, and Queen Mab is surprised when she finds out how obedient she is as a slave. Queen Mab scares herself when she finds herself feeling more than she should for her slave, and Little One loves everything that Queen Mab does for her.

The world-building is limited when the book is told from Little One’s POV, as she only knows how to be a slave and only has memories of her world when she is a slave. However, when the story is told from Queen Mab’s POV, it definitely explains more about the world that they are living in. Nevertheless, I still felt that something was missing, as if the world was only half-created. I still got confused as to the surroundings of Mab and Little One at certain points of the story. I wish that a little more time had been put into creating the world of the novel.

The character development in this series does not really pick up until book 2, but in this book, Little One does have to learn how to be independent in some ways. Queen Mab definitely grows from being fairly cold to grow a soft spot for her pleasure slave.

The plot was well paced and no moment seemed to be boring. I sped through this book as it was short, but it didn’t feel short or rushed as I was reading. I felt satisfied after reading it as if I had read a full book. I didn’t feel as if the book was forcing me to read the next novel in the series to get the rest of the story.

I did not find any editing errors even though I received an advanced copy. This allowed me to be completely focused on the story and not distracted by any small errors.

I would recommend this novel to lovers of dark fantasy and dark adult romance novels.

I received an advanced copy of this book and this is my voluntary review.

I’m really not sure what to say. I read to experience different worlds and belief systems, and this was definitely different. This is a look into the lives and desires of Little One, a mostly human slave, and Queen Mab, the dark queen of faerie. I knew it would be dark, but this went beyond my expectations. I admit I was uncomfortable with some of the depicted scenes. The two main characters readily declare to being a masochist and a sadist, and we see what that means in faerie.

Despite my discomfort, I remained intrigued by the book. Both main characters are more than they seem at first; the layers are slowly peeled back to reveal more. I liked Little One and could understand her attachment to the Queen. Blevins writes very well and shows what the characters are thinking and feeling. There is a “game changer” near the end that provides more insight into the characters but also enables Little One to grow. Despite my discomfort, I actually look forward to reading the next book. I never enjoy teasers, but I had to read the sequel’s teaser at the end of this book.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

I always eagerly anticipate a new release from Candace Blevins and it doesn’t seem to matter whether it’s one of her urban fantasies, paranormal romances, or her safeword series, each and every story is carefully crafted and delivers on impact (pun intended) time and time again.

“Slave” is the first story that exclusively takes place in the faerie realm and it’s a decadent treat. Having read many of Ms. Blevins books (not necessary for this series), I’m already familiar with the Winter Queen and it was with great delight (I might have squeed) when I found out she was getting her own story in all her wicked yumminess.

As with all her books, Ms. Blevins delivers on her characters and the details. Queen Mab has an amazing “soft” side (said carefully) and even a touch of the romantic in her; all while she’s juggling the politics and administrative duties that come with being a queen and giving her pleasure slave exactly what she craves.

“Slave” is book one in the Dark(ish) Faerie Tale quadrilogy and it’s an amazing start to this series that I cannot wait to continue.

It's amazing how attached you can become to one little slave. So the darkly erotic Faerie Queen discovered, and so will you as a reader. Be forewarned: dark, cruel, painful sex is the norm in the Winter Queen's kingdom. Don't be surprised at what happens behind these doors, open or closed.
I've been on a marathon read of this author's series, and I wasn't sure I wanted to depart from the hot bikers & supernatural studmuffins to read a Faerie Tale. Even one with this cool cover. However, as with each of the Candace Blevens books, it serves to further flesh out characters that you've already met. This particular story is very reminiscent of the Anne Rice "Sleeping Beauty" series, and while I have no personal interest in a side of extreme pain with my sex, I'm certainly aware that there are those that walk this path. This is a novella size read which completely kept my interest and was easily finished in one evening. Looking forward to the personal journey that this "Little One" will discover in subsequent books.

I found this to be a love story first and a journey of discovery for both of our main characters second. Set in Faerie, a place we have been introduced to in previous books of Candace Blevins.
Mab, the Dark Queen, is no doubt a sadist but with such refinement there is beauty in her perfection. Her new pleasure slave, Little One, desperately needs one such as she to complete her. And this is how our love story starts.
However without controversy this book would be a very short. Errors are discovered leading Little One to her need for self-exploration but it's with pain and hardship so that she may grow and learn.
There is such passion and emotion that I found that I had identified so closely to these two that at times I had tears running down my face and at others felt so much happiness and joy.
I highly recomend this book and am looking forward to reading the rest of the set.

This was a good start to a new series. Although it's been awhile since I've read The Dragon King, my recollections of the Winter Queen weren't good. Although still a little scary, I really liked the opportunity to dig a little deeper into her character. I really hope she reappears later in the series. I liked the progression of Little One from some one with virtually no emotional connections to someone cared for by so many. I really liked her character so I'm hoping the foreshadowing of things to come for her works out. The story itself was good, and the author wrapped it up really well. The ending didn't feel like a cliffhanger, at all, but still left me looking forward to the next book.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

I enjoyed this story and am looking forward to the next installment. I was cheering on the” little one” from the beginning of the story. I liked the relationship forming between “little one” and the Dark Queen. The story took a turn 3/4 of the way through and I was sad about it and hope that Tabby/ Little One can reunite with the queen. It’s a very well written suspenseful story and is the first of four installments. If you enjoy BSDM and the faerie world this is a perfect match.

Slave is the first of the four tales it is going to take to span the life of a pixie/human child who has been raised to be a pleasure slave because she had no family to claim her. She ends up in the court of The Winter Queen where this story takes place. The author puts us into the head of the Slave so we can understand what she is feeling. Seeing her world through her eyes gives you a different perspective. This story took me to a very different world and I am looking forward to seeing where she goes from here.

I have read Ms Blevins others series of books and love them as her writing is so unique. The concept of being a slave with no rights or allowed thoughts from birth didn't at first appeal to me.
I have to say I really enjoyed Slave. It wasn't what I expected.
Little One's story was definitely thought provoking and stretched my imagination, running the gauntlet of emotions for her.
So looking forward to reading the rest of the series.
Another excellent story by the very talented Ms Blevins. Thank you

This book (and the following books in the series) combine the rather precise rules of Faerie with really, really serious BDSM. (Made more serious, of course, by the fact that Queen Mab can heal as well as torment).

This series has absolute vibes of _The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty_. If you liked that trilogy, you will likely like this set.

I really enjoyed how the status of slavery in the realm of Faerie removed some of the challenges of living without saying "thank you" or asking for a favor. The land keeping a record of transactions was a very nice touch.

This book follows the dark romance of the Winter Queen. We met the Winter Queens in the Dragon King. We know she dark and strong.

We find in this story she is a twisted, saddest who has a heart. When she meets her little one she brings out the best in her.
Actually they give either other what they need.

Good, but a bit extreme for my taste

I was excited to read a lesbian paranormal romance, and I love anything with fae or elves, so this one seemed right up my alley. I did enjoy the overall story but I think the BDSM aspects were more extreme than I am used to. This is a matter of personal taste however so I can’t knock the book too much.

Slave is the start to a truly amazing story

Candace Blevins always makes an impact with her character and story building that leaves a reader thirsting for the next page. Slave is a wonderful beginning to Tabby and Mab’s love story that might not be conventional but is amazing never the less. It is scorching hot and I can’t wait for the next installment!
