An enslaved enchantress. A magic mirror. Whose match will be made next?
Once upon a time...
When Queen Briska is accused of treason, she flees to the mountains, building an icy wall around her broken heart. But she cannot flee her punishment - she is forced to help other couples find love. A tough task, when the man she loves is dead.
Amani knew his life was over the moment he was enslaved to a magic lamp. But when a strange twist of fate frees him from the lamp just as he discovers the woman he loves still lives, Amani sets out to find her, and free her, too.
Will the power of love be enough to melt two frozen hearts?
USA Today Bestselling Author Demelza Carlton has always loved the ocean, but on her first snorkelling trip she found she was afraid of fish. She has since swum with sea lions, sharks and sea cucumbers and stood on spray-drenched cliffs over a seething sea as a seven-metre cyclonic swell surged in, shattering a shipwreck below. Sensationalist spin? No - Demelza tends to take a camera with her so she can capture and share the moment later; shipwrecks, sharks and all. Demelza now lives in Perth, Western Australia, the shark attack capital of the world. The Ocean's Gift series was her first foray into fiction, followed by the Nightmares trilogy. She swears the Mel Goes to Hell series ambushed her on a crowded train and wouldn't leave her alone.
16/07/18 Before I read "Kiss: Frog Prince Retold", I needed to read "Wish: Aladdin Retold" and this novel to find out more about Maram's best friend and step sister, Anahita
I can now read "Kiss" and see what troubles she faces!
08/04/18 Loved this continuation of Princess Maram's mother, Briska, and her lover Amani, the powerful sorcerer who helped Aladdin be with Maram
Briska is married to the Sultan, Maram's father, but she is head over heels for Armani, the man she loves but can never be with. But one mistake from the pair, separates them from each ever seeing one another Briska is forced to be a match maker for Mistress Kun. It is Briska who actually helped bring together all the couples that are in this fairytale series, which I absolutely loved to read! But, forever alone, she believes there is no love left for her.
But Armani was not killed, he stayed as a slave to the lamp and whoever wield the lamp for many years, until he was finally freed and was able to search for his beloved Queen. However, the one Snow Queen is invisible to the rest of the world, how can Armani find her and make her feel love again?
Such a delightful read, loved it and it was so beautifully written!
Received a copy from the author herself, for an honest review, thank you!
I really enjoyed this book. I loved that lots of the characters from earlier books in this series are woven through the storyline. I really liked how their stories are connected yet at the same time not connected. There are lots of sweet moments, and some not so sweet moments. Briska and Armani are torn apart and after a lengthy separation while they are both imprisoned they are finally reunited, and get their happy ever after.
MELT is the twelfth full length book in the Romance a Medieval Fairytale series. They each stand on their own, but there is quite a bit of overlap in characters… especially in this one.
I love the touch of familiar that is twisted into something so new. I can’t get enough of these adult fairytales! Not just for the adult part, but for the unique story told. I am thankful for these releases from Ms. Carlton!
Queen Briska (not exactly the Elsa of Disney) is confined in her icy castle making love matches via the mirror, mirror, on the wall. “Let It Go” is not just a Disney DVD song. It is great advice for and from our Snow Queen.
Now that that little ditty is stuck in your head and mine…. I’ll just let you go for now. Until next time, Happy Reading!
Note: while I was given this book as a gifted ARC, my opinions are my own and are given freely.
Title: MELT: SNOW QUEEN RETOLD Series: Romance a Medieval Fairytale # 12 Category /Genre: Fairytale Retelling; Paranormal Romance Recommended for: 18+ due to sexual content Grammar/editing: book received as an unedited ARC / errors excused Received from: Demelza Carlton (as an ARC gifted copy)
The only element of the Snow Queen there is, is a recount of another character doing what happened in the original fairytale, which lasts for less than a half chapter. I have no idea why Briska was called the Snow Queen, for she had absolutely no powers related to snow or even ice. We're told she's cold, but shown exactly the opposite. She was a matchmaker. The author tried to include cameos of most characters in the series so far, but what she does is paint some FMCs in the series as violent, vindictive, racist bitches. Briska was terrified of them, for chrissakes! I hated each and every one of them. I’ve read other works in the series and they have been a mixed bunch. This was a miss for me. But hey, at least I finished it, hence the two stars. Also, the magical interference from this matchmaker enchantress explained a lot from the other books. It made it seem like the author had some forethought, but I’m not so sure. And, in an unrelated note, why is the woman in the picture white, when Briska isn’t? Anyway, I might read other books in the series, but only if I get them for free, like this one.
This fairytale retelling of the Snow Queen was unique and entertaining. I loved how multiple characters from several stories in the series made appearances. It was interesting to see how many of their stories were influenced from events stemming from this novel. Briska and Amani were well developed characters and their motivations were realistic. I always appreciate reading from both main characters’ points of view, and this novel, like all of the novels in the series thus far, once again provided just that. The only thing that stopped me from giving this novel five stars is the abruptness of scene changes. The story didn’t flow as well as others in the series. I understand that there are major gaps in time throughout this novel, but I think there could have been better transitions to allow for a smoother flow. But overall, I really enjoyed this novel and look forward to reading more new releases this year. As a caution, there were a couple of intimate scenes throughout the novel.
I totally adore Demelza Carlton’s Romance a Medieval Fairytale series, both in concept and in execution, so it’s no surprise that I was delighted to get my hands on Melt, book 12 of series. This book is, quite simply, superb and definitely recommended. It is exactly the perfect updating of Snow Queen promised in its title. It had just what I wanted and was well written and with a great plot and great cast of characters. I frankly adore both Briska and Amani and the rest of the cast if characters is pretty amazing as well. But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises - these two books definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book set is most definitely one to read, it is easy to highly recommend.
Melt: Snow Queen Retold (Romance a Medieval Fairytale series Book 12) Is a magical tale of an enslaved enchantress, a magic mirror, and whose match will be made next. This is the continuation of Princess Maryam's mother Queen Briska who is accused of treason and married to the Sultan, Maryam's father, but she is head over heals in love with Armani the man she cannot be with. Character's from previous books are intertwined through out this magical tale. The synopsis is intriguing and the well crafted tale keeps you captivated until the end. With some sweet moments and not so sweet moments this tale will take you on spellbinding roller coaster ride. A unrivaled writing style that fits the fantasy exquisitely and creates a unparalleled enchanting read.
It seemed to me that there were a lot of fairy tale, fantasy characters all mixed up. However the Snow Queen, Briska is magically transported to a frozen world, entrapped and unable to escape or be seen. At the sametime her lover is transported and locked into a magic lamp (like in Aladdin). How the will eventually escape and be reunited seems impossible, except in fantasy and fairy tales, ANYTHING is, and the story line is good. I received an advanced readers copy of this book and I am leaving a voluntary review. I have read quite a few of these fairy tales “retold”by Demelza Carlton and enjoyed them all.
This is book 12 in Carlton's Romance a Medieval Fairytale series. A beautifully well written and perfectly narrated re-telling that will captivate from start to finish. Love these characters and storyline. I've listened to this series completely out of order and while I think that's hindered me some each read is so well done you find you are completely entranced with each one regardless of if you've read the classic tale or not. Carlton's definitely got a gift!
This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review. *this review is based on the audio version of this read.
⭐⭐⭐⭐💫 I loved it😍😍 I don't know how I feel about soo many characters from other books being mentioned, but I loved this retelling of the Snow Queen. Queen of Ice and Snow with a cold heart at first glance/but tht's not the actual truth😍😊 and it was pretty quick thank heavens because i don't have much time lately...😅😥
Pre-read I'm snowed in my house alone (literally the door is stuck from the iced snow) and yes today is my birthday and I refuse to study soo this is the perfect read for today. Retelling of the Snow Queen (which is one of my faves as a child), short and fast-pace (as always with DC) and has snow in my snowy environment
One of Carlton's best fairytales although the protagonists spend almost no time together. This is the story of the genie from Aladin's lamp and the queen of ice and snow from the far north. It's a classic "loved and lost" quest story that tugs at the heart strings and features cameo appearances from many of the couples who stared in the previous stories. In the evil courtesan we have a scheming antagonist who truly rivals the best of the fairytale queen villains. A great book to read by the fire on a cold evening, just to make sure the ice queen's cold doesn't set into your bones.
An interesting re-telling of The Snow Queen fairy tale. The thought of reading a “fairy tale” doesn’t particularly appeal to me but I’m glad I did. Extremely well written, the characters, well developed. I’m a character reader, I get into the characters. Who and what they are. Why they do the things they do. The things that make a reader get invested into the characters and thereby the book. By the end of this book, I couldn't turn pages fast enough to see how Carleton's carefully crafted tale would unveil. I’ll be reading more from this author!
I received an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review. Demelza Carlton has done it again. She gets you hooked from the start, you already know what happened to Amani and Briska but now you get their story and find out why The Sultan made Maram a courtesan and why he made Briska and Amani djinns. Mistress Kun is up to no good and was using Briska to achieve her evil deeds. A wonderful retelling of the Snow Queen showing the opposite side and making you feel for the evil Queen. Loved it! I would recommend this book to all who love a new version of their favourite fairy tale.
This rewritten fairytale is a crossover between Snow Queen and Aladdin. It will transport you away to a world where you can indulge in romance, action, drama and a happily ever after. This book links in with Demelza's other rewritten fairytales but can be read as a stand-alone novel. It is beautifully written and certainly paints a picture in your head when you're indulging yourself in the story. I loved the story and the twists to it, that I never really expected. It is one of my favourites. Loved it. I voluntarily received an ARC in exchange for an honest review of the book.
Demelza Carlton has created a whole series out of reimagining fairytales and this particular book actually reframes some of the earlier stories. I really love this series and I enjoyed this new look at the earlier tales. My only caveat is that these fairytales are for adults and they portray sexual scenes and mature themes. Mary Sarah's lyrical narration is a pleasing experience for those listening to the audiobooks. I was given a free copy of the audiobook and I have voluntarily left this review.
I can never say enough about Demelza Carltons stories. I always enjoy the retellings. I also think she has the BEST narrator for them. Mary Sarah draws you in and her voice is perfect. I felt very bad for Briska when she was taken from her true love & horrified for him. Poor Briska being stuck making matches for the evil witch. With only a mirror to show her the daughter she left behind. But her love did not forget her & his will to find her drove him on. A great story and Demelza is one of my favorite authors.
Maram's (from Wish) mother, Briska and her mother's lover, Amani, were turned into djinn for their sins. Forced to serve as slaves to their masters: a punishment much more severe than their crime. Both Briska and Amani paid a terrible price for their forbidden love. This story weaves together snippets of many, if not all, of the series stories.
I received a complimentary copy of this book and voluntarily posted an honest review.
This was a well-written, entertaining book. Queen Briska is accused of treason and flees to the icy mountains, where she is forced to help other couples find love. Amani was enslaved to a magic lamp. He manages to escape and discovers the woman he loves is still alive. He goes to find her and set her free too. I enjoyed this retelling of The Snow Queen and look forward to reading other books by this author.
Another awesome instalment in this series of fairytale retellings, and this might be my favourite yet. With so many interlinkings (yet still suitable to be read alone if you've not read the others) this is definitely a fun one for series connoisseurs to play spot the story to! Beautifully written, tender instead of soppy, and with a great HEA for the characters... And a teaser for the next book too! What more could you ask for? Perfect for all adult fairy tale retelling lovers.
Another wonderful fairytale retold by Ms. Carlton! This intriguing book blends the snow queen with Aladdin and puts two star crossed djinn front and center! To blend those elements and still hold me captivated was truly gratifying. This storyline flowed beautifully and still had me pondering I’d Kun was on the side of good or evil. A perfect read between house chores! This review has been voluntarily written.
You so will! I love fairytale retelling and Demelza Carlton is one of the Queens of this genre. I am particularly delighted in having characters from other stories appear in the current addition and how everything weaves together to form a cohesive whole. The story is as enchanting as its cover, and I strongly recommend reading it and then going back to book one or simply start from the beginning. It will make your reading experience so much richer.
Melt is the 12th book in this series, and it doesn't disappoint. Briska and Amani have a good love story, and having threads from so many of the previous books woven through this one makes it all the better. Fast paced with twists and turns and characters you'll be rooting for: a really good read. Be aware this is not a childs tale: some adult situations
Mistress Kun proves to be a exceptional plotter in this tale. Briska does so much for so many and truly does not understand what she is doing. It is amazing to see to the behind the scenes of so many of the tales that have come before hand. Amani is just a man in love and acts from his heart. It's a great read. I volunteered to read this book.
Ok first, Demelza make this book a little bit sad (In my opinion) i love all of them especially the main character, I'm so sorry for her. Her life is so.... Sad😥. The characters have been through a lot, whose heart not going to be frozen if you have to paired a couple but your couple is gone ( I'm not going to say dead because he's not ).😫😫
This might be my least favorite of the series. Don't get me wrong it's still a good read, but I just found it less enjoyable than previous editions. It could because I feel like more fairytale were weaved into one and I really wanted to focus on the Snow Queen.
Overall this is such a great series!
I received a copy from StoryOrigin, all opinions are my own.
Great retelling! I love Demelza’s book in this series because she writes strong female leads who overcome all challenges to get what they want. Some of the characters in this book I have heard about from other books in the series and I liked learning more. The narrator did an awesome job with the story. I am looking forward to more books from Demelza in the future.
This was supposed to be a reimagined version of Hans Christian Anderson’s Snow Queen, but although it did mention the children, it seemed like the author mashed up a half dozen fairytales and sprinkled them with sorcery just to make it more confusing. It was okay but I’m not sure if I’d recommend it.
Against the backdrop of another quest for love, we take a wild romp through many of the books in this series. It was a dizzying ride. Sometimes exhilarating and sometimes a bit harried. It brought back memories of the stories I’d read and made me want to read the rest.
