A great book for the kids in the classroom to notice and wonder about the concept "forces". The forces of a mum and the forces involved in riding a bike we know as different names in our everyday lives. Science gives them a meaning beyond "hitting or kicking" a ball or cleaning up your room...to studying the "force" in push or pull, friction and motion! The images invite young children to think and support their physical exploration and questioning in their world. Understanding your mum and cleaning your room through Isaac Newton opens our world: eating ice cream for dinner, riding a bike or playing tug-o-war we find: The inherent force of matter is the power of resisting by which every body, so long as it is able, perseveres in it state either of resting or moving uniformly straight forward"..I think some mothers might wish there was uniformity in each child's eagerness to clean up a room was more straight forward and uniform and less of a psychosocial tug-o-war, the push and pull involved in social relations and the demands of a child in their place and dveleopmental stage.

This book includes real-life examples to help readers understand energy. For example, the book discusses how solar panels work, how electricity is generated from coal and other fossil fuels, and how energy is sorted in batteries. It also explores how cars use energy to move, how wind turbines generate electricity, and how different types of light bulbs use energy differently. This is a fantastic resource for young learners interested in physics. With its engaging text and colorful illustrations this book makes hard concepts easy for students to understand. I love how this book has hands-on learning experimentation. Throughout the book, it encourages students to try out simple experiments and demonstrate let concepts, such as Newton's Laws of Motions and the principle of buoyancy. This helps students not only understand science but truly experience it for themselves.

This book is a great learning tool for teachers to use to teach about the different types of forces in the world. You learn about Gravity, Magnetism, and so much more. I like this book because it gives the definition of each type of force in bold. It also gives examples that kids will know like kicking a ball or riding a skateboard. It also gives activity ideas. I like this book because the important words are bold. The illustrations are also wonderful. The examples the book gives are drawn and shown in the pictures. It also has a glossary in the back to help kids understand some of the words they may not know. The pictures look to be done in watercolor or marker. The pictures are very complex and nice. The book can be a great educational tool.

Review of the whole series with teaching tools: http://www.unleashingreaders.com/?p=1...

Young children have so many questions about the world and how everything works. Curiousity runs wild in their brains, but more than anything they just want to learn and absorb. This series is a must get for parents, classrooms, and libraries because it addresses many of the questions that kids have.

Each book begins with a poem that introduces the topic then is followed by lyrical text going through scientific information about the topic of the book. Mixed in with the text are “TRY THIS” sidebars with fun experiments for kids to take the text into the real world.

Forces: Physical Science for Kids by Andi Diehn introduces young readers, ages 5-8, to this science concept.

The book opens by illustrating some of the many ways in which the word “force” is used in everyday life. From there, the text continues on to the topics of gravity, magnetism, and friction and explores the idea of force as expressed through the opposing forces of pushing and pulling.

Examples are gleaned from everyday experiences and are both entertaining and thought provoking. A pair of Hands-0n experiments and a basic glossary reinforce the content.

A fun introduction to simple science concepts for home or school libraries.

This is a great book for younger children to learn about the different forces. The author did well on creating examples of forces being used on a daily bases. This creates a great way for children to understand force and how it is applied. I also loved that the author included questions in the reading to allow readers to ask themselves and predict what force is being used and how. Overall, I would definitely recommend this for younger children because the author provides great examples using proper wording and illustrations for their age group.
