It is Chinese New Year and Madame Gazelle is teaching the children all about this very special celebration. Peppa and George and their friends make Chinese New Year cards, try tasty Chinese treats and even take part in their very own dragon parade! This lovely story is the perfect way to teach little ones all about Chinese New Year.
Setting aside the lack of explanation for why they’re celebrating Chinese New Year, this is a pretty good introduction to the holiday (apart from its forgetting to mention that CNY is more than one day). It covers cleaning, the paper lanterns, red clothing, etc.
Nothing in depth, but again, it’s an enjoyable look at CNY with the signature cuteness of Peppa Pig that the show is known for.
{My thoughts} – Peppa Pig, where to begin. This is a fun book about the Chinese New Year featuring Peppa Pig. Peppa Pig is a popular cartoon character that can be watched on Nick Jr. Many children have fallen in love with it since it came out.
This book was made to help keep that love of the cartoon alive for children for years to come. This is the first Peppa Pig book that I have had the pleasure of reading with my daughter.
The cover of this book is Is bright and appealing. It also has really nice illustrations that go hand and hand with the story upon it’s pages.
The story is about the Chinese New Year and what happens during the time in which it is celebrated. It is a fairly simple story and easy for children to understand.
I think that any child can enjoy this book. It’s a bonus if they like Peppa Pig as well.
I had gotten this book for my son, who celebrates Chinese New Year, and also loves Peppa Pig. When I had found out that Peppa Pig was being adored in China during the 'Year of the Pig', and that a book had been written about her celebrating Chinese New Year, I knew that I had to get it! Upon first reading this book to my son, I could tell that he was truly mesmerized by the pictures, and was even pointing to the dragon on the pages! I loved how this book was colourful, and gave kid-friendly, in-depth descriptions as to the different things that one does when celebrating Chinese New Year. I was in awe of how wonderful the author described the beauty of Chinese New Year, and read it to my son a few times. Surprisingly, he picked-up the book on his own and began flipping the pages, something that he rarely does! I found that the length of this book was excellent as well, allowing parents to give their children a good read, while keeping their attention! Would love to see Peppa Pig celebrating more cultural holidays in the near future, such a great read!
This children's book is a cute introduction to Chinese New Year and offers an easy-to-understand explanation for the different traditions involved in the holiday, starting with sweeping out the old year. Pippa's class makes New Year's cards, hangs lanterns, and learns the importance of the color red before they end the day with a dragon dance and fireworks. At the end of the book, the traditions are explained in more detail, and the book includes eight stickers.
I looked at a few books for the Chinese New Year, and I didn't expect a Pippa the Pig book to be my favorite, but it was because it contained the most comprehensive description of the myriad ways the New Year is celebrated and why the traditions are important. Since Pippa, a figure familiar to children, is excited about the Chinese New Year, hopefully children not familiar with Chinese culture will become excited about it, too. I loved the colorful, rich illustrations and the tone of the story, though I was underwhelmed by the stickers.
If I were to purchase a single book on the Chinese New Year for a child or library, this is the one I would select!
Another addition to project Diversify Parish School Library - glad to have things to teach littles about the beauty and purpose of other global holidays than just our own. This will be a good starter for redressing a lot of problematic cultural "othering" in our parish school culture.
A cute Peppa Pig book that introduces children to Chinese New Year and it's traditions... great for preschoolers and especially those that love Peppa Pig as many kids at my library do.
Read for a Saturday Story Time at Elsmere Library.
My grandson enjoyed this book. He loves Peppa Pig and I liked how it talked about a different holiday. It was written in a fun and enjoyable way. I would definitely recommend this book.
My little one's nursery has done lots of activities relating to Chinese New Year so this book helped to supplement those activities. It is good to see Peppa Pig being involved with different cultures.
I quite liked this book. The illustrations are like the ones from the show. Peppa and her class learn about Chinese New Year and at the end of the book it explains more about what Chinese New Year is and lists some facts about the holiday as well. Cute book.
