In this sequel to The Wrath of Fate, the Airship Ophelia lists, burnt and broken, in a tropical sea. Her crew has been scattered across the face of a ruined world, or lost in time, and now it is my job to pick up the pieces.
What has become of my wife and children, whom I left in the aerial city of Isla Aether? This is one of the last of the free cities, held aloft over a world given back to the beasts. I fear this city will be a target now that the Emperor's life, and mercy, is at an end. What will become of Kristina if she was taken back to a life of servitude in the walled cities? What will become of the children if they were left wandering alone in wastelands filled with nomadic tribes and prehistoric predators?
What is to become of young Lilith Tess, who jumped ship in the 1930's only to be lost in time? I saw her again, here at the end of days, and she was a queen. What journey did she take that led her to this fate?
And perhaps least important of all, what is to become of me and the last of our crew? I stand here on the deck of this ship that has held me through all my misguided attempts to make the world a better place. This ship, and her captain and crew, are beaten.
Will I have the strength to pull everything together again? Will I still have the strength to get this ship flying?

It's the second book in the series. If you read the first one, then you know will realize that a good portion of this book is the aftermath of the first and has a lot retelling past events from Lilith and Victor's point of view and how the world becomes broken while Victor believes he's fixing/saving it.
The story does follow Robert, Kristina and the children's points of view as well, eventually, all catching up for a worthy end game finale to really put an end to Victor's Totalitarian Regime.
In the air of pulp fiction and action-adventure, this a fun romp, and story. Especially if you're a fan of steampunk, time travel and Abney Park.

A fast-paced, action-packed continuation of the Airship Pirate Chornicles. These books are a must-read for fans of Abney Park's music, and will be enteratining even if you've never listened to a note of it. (But you should. It's good music, to go with these good books.)

Very entertaining. I love the way Captain Robert is able to show us different aspects of the same event through time travel. I like the beasts and automatons. Capt. Robert has a knack for making it seem like you're watching the movie in your head while reading his words. Nice job, Captain! I'm looking forward to the next book already!

This one was better than the first - less typos and a real sense of how the story tied into the music. I'll be interested to see how it all wraps up in the third book. :) My favorite scene involved a large snake and a tea party.
