Back Cover: With the Empress Matilda about to marry the Count of Anjou, Alfraed is thrown into a world of intrigue and treachery as he tries to hold on to the north with depleted numbers of warriors. When he succeeds he finds that he is punished and sent to the east by King Henry and his family held hostage in the Tower of London. I was born in 1950 in Lancashire and attended a boy’s grammar school. After qualifying as an English and Drama teacher in 1972, I worked in the North East of England for the next 35 years. During that time I did write, mainly plays, pantos and musicals for the students at the three schools in which I worked.
When I stopped teaching I set up my own consultancy firm and worked as an adviser in schools and colleges in the North East of England. The new Conservative Government ended that avenue of work and in 2010 I found that I had time on my hands; having started work at the age of 15 I found the lack of work not to my liking and used the time to research the Roman invasion of Britain and begin to create a novel. The result was The Sword of Cartimandua.
My decision to begin writing was one of the best I have ever taken.
Great English historical series of the period starting in the reign of Henry I in the early 12th Century. It is fact-based around a fictional character, Alfraed, much like Bernard Cornwell's Saxon Series which has Uhtred as the central figure. This series is just as good, if not better, as it deals with everyday life as well as the battles and warmongering.
It is brilliantly written and researched. If only Griff Hosker had been my History teacher many years ago, I would have paid attention far more.
The books are not too long as there is no waffling, unlike a typical SK novel. You have to read every single word to get the best out of it. The good thing is there’s a lot more books in the series to come.
Another great read by Griff, each book is like a serial on tv, and when you get to the end there is always a twist to guide you to the next episode. I find them easy to follow, love the time spent ensuring you get an up date on the other players in the story, plus like real life you have ones who pass away and the effect it has on others. The sea escapades were really portrayed and made it feel real. Keep it up Griff, just starting the EARL, so off to a few hours of escape.....
The main character in the series, Aelfraed, is now a baron and his adventures continue in this the fourth book in the Anarchy series. Griff Hosker writes exciting historical novels, with lots of action and bigger than life characters. He weaves his stories with actual historical events and people. As with the first three, I really enjoyed this book. I am definitely going to read the next.
Yet another great book from Griff Hosker! The story is amazing and the details within the book are great. The settings are widely varied and add a great feel to the book. Looking forward to reading book 5.
