This is a perfect guide to .Net performance world. Strongly recommended to everyone who wants to learn more about performance and to know how deep the rabbit hole is. I'm pretty sure, you won't be disappointed.

This book offers many gems and helpful ideas on tuning .Net code. However, the author ignores for half of the book that not everyone knows as much about the topic as he does. There is no explanation on the why and a direct deep-dive into the how. That results in a dry and boring start that may lead to many readers giving up. In the second half there is more about the why and the explicit performance impact on writing code in a certain way. That is the part in which an average .Net developer finds the useful data and can start with optimizing their code (using the tools explained in the first half). A bit more explanations on the why and on the pro and cons of different approaches early on would have made reading this book for me a lot simpler.

This book is a much-needed toolset for serious developers and architects to learn how to measure and improve performance.

The first couple set of chapters gives you a set of tools to measure and analyze performance.
- PerfView
- PerfMon
- WinDbg
- And countless other tools to give company to above three

The Middle section gives you a set of tools to understand and improve the framework and your code performance.
- Garbage Collection Internals & Tweaks
- JIT Internals and Tweaks
- Async Programming walkthrough

And the last few chapters give you a set of nuts and bolts to improve that last mile performance improvement which we ignore, mostly.

A fantastic book to upgrade any developer’s toolkit for work. Recommend to all serious .Net buddies.

Although this 2nd edition is from 2018, I think the book remains outdated in several topics, ignoring Cloud tools and . Net code outside Windows.
