The Boy in the Window A Psychological Thriller By: Ditter Kellen Narrated by: Johnny Mack This is an audible book I requested and the review is voluntary. I made the mistake of starting this book late in the evening. Once I started it I had to finish it, there was no pausing this story! It grabbed me and then I hung on to every word! Intense! If you like a good mystery, throw in harmless ghosts, psychics, romance, murder, lots of suspects, unpredictable situations and plot, well developed characters, chilling suspense, and more then this is the book for you! The narrator was perfect for this book too! Loved it!
This book Was utterly Fascinating from start to end. Johnny Mack had me on the edge of my seat from start to finish with His narration of this book, I was completely immersed in this intense story and fully enjoyed listening to this narration from minute one to the very ending. His voices for the characters seemed pretty spot on especially since he was portraying A female main character along with several other male and female supporting characters. Phycological Thrillers are not my normal genre, I'm more into the Romance & YA books, but this book sounded really interesting when I read the blurb, enough to pick my curiosity and give it a go. And I am Really glad I gave this one a chance. The main Character Jessica's antics had me wondering if she was really seeing the boy in the window or if she had just entered Crazy town and was trying to drag others along with her there. This is one of those books that has so many different twists and turns it makes you constantly think about what is going to happen next, and who could actually be behind what is going on in the book? I thought for sure I knew who the "bad guy" was several different times with the small clues we were given only to change my decision when something else happened further along. And Holy Crap, I Never saw that Ending Coming, I really never would have guessed that in its entirety it was completely surprising... This book was Great and the Narration was Even Better. I would Definitely recommend this book in Audio, even if you normally don't go for Crazy Thrillers, you should still give this one a listen.
WOW! I'm blown away...Ditter Kellen has made an incredible jump from her usual genre. The Boy in the Window was so well written (not that I am surprised) it made for a easy flowing read. A story line so intriguing and characters, interesting as well as complex made it difficult to put the book down. As always when reading a Thriller I try to figure out the end but this had a twist at the end that was not expected which made it that much better!! Excellent read whether you are a fan of Ditter Kellen or a fan of Psychological Thrillers this is a must read!! Ditter please keep writing Thrillers!!
For more than three years, Owen did his best to help his wife Jessica get over the loss of their 7-year old son but all his efforts were in vain. Then he decides that they should move to Florida. Shortly after their arrival there, Jessica starts to see a young boy peeking out of a window in their next door abandoned house. Unfortunately for her, Owen can't see any of this. Then it turns out there is a huge mystery behind that 7-year old boy. From the first page, the story drew me in, I even finished the novel in one sitting. Also, I loved the turns and twists.
The first book I read by Ditter Kellen was my last book to read in 2017. It was ENIGMA: What Lies Beneath and was #1 in the Enigma Series and a Science Fiction Romance. I enjoyed the book so much, I read the remaining nine books in the Enigma Series in January 2018. When I read the blurb for the THE BOY IN THE WINDOW: A Psychological Thriller, I was more then excited to read it. I started it yesterday and stayed up till I finished the entire book.
THE BOY IN THE WINDOW starts on a very sad beginning. The once very happily married couple of Jessica and Owen Nobles are now heartbroken over the loss of their son Jacob. The 7 year old boy was taken from them by a drunk driver. Three years later and their grief has not lessened. Jessica has taken their son's death extremely hard. She has spent the last three years sedated and under the care of a psychiatrist. She has been suicidal and they see no progression, just regression. Her mind had crawled into a dark place that she couldn't seem to come back from.
Not a day went by that Owen didn't think of Jacob. He had grieved the death of his son to the point of almost losing his mind. He'd been forced to hide his own grief behind a mask of strength in order to be strong for Jess. Owen knew he had to make a drastic change to save his wife and their marriage. He started plotting a big move behind her back. A move that would take them far away from Jacob's home, memories and even his grave. Owen could never forget Jacob, but moving to Florida he felt was the right decision. He and Jessica would begin their new life and hopefully find some kind of happiness.
Shortly after their arrival at their new Florida home, Jessica peered up at the dirty window on the second floor of the abandoned house next door. She sees a small boy, staring back at her. He had dark hair and was wearing a striped T-shirt. He looked about the same age as her Jacob had been, and now the mystery begins. This book is unique and a mind chilling experience!
If you're seeking a well-structured psychological thriller look no further than Ms. Kellen's latest novel.
It starts with the sort of tragedy no parent wants to contemplate, and ends with a clever twist. But in between it's an amazing inner struggle story of a mother's concerns being ignored and a father doing his level best to cope with the worst possible loss. In that sense, it's truly "psychological"--a parent's inner battle to move on with their lives however they can, and is very well written.
I highly recommend this book to anyone seeking the sort of novel that draws you in, makes you truly feel what the characters are feeling, and then ends in a way you will NOT expect. Pick this one up for a quick read, with a story you won't soon forget. 4.5 stars
I listened to this as an audiobook, not only was the story itself engaging but the narrator also does the voicing so well he keeps you listening too. I found myself finding all the time I could to get any more of the story in so I could find out what happened. I was obsessed. I'm normally not into thrillers but the synopsis sounded different that I wanted to give it a shot and boy was I glad I did. the author does such a good job of sucking you in via emotion and pure suspense. just as you think you have an idea who does it, you are thrown around a different path second guessing all you just thought you knew. I couldn't stop until I knew what happened.
This is a great story that quickly drew me in and kept me turning the pages. Tide story is interesting, the characters intriguing ad complex, and a surprise or two that kept me guessing. A great story.
Ditter Kellen has again proven what a great author she is. This is her first book in this genre and she has created a fantastic thriller. Owen Nobles loves his wife, Jessica. He is trying everything to help her accept the fact that their son passed away. After 3 years, nothing is improving so he decides they should move to Florida and try to start fresh. While moving in, Jessica sees a young boy peeking out of a window in the abandoned house next door. When she goes to investigate, she discovers the boy is probably the ghost of Terry, the young boy who lived in the house and disappeared without a trace 13 years earlier. This is the beginning of her journey down a road that has Owen questioning her sanity and her questioning her marriage. There are so many twists and turns that you will never see who is responsible for the disappearance of Terry, the boy in the window. Excellent!
I thought I was done with unreliable character. I guess I was wrong. Jess and Owen lost their only child in an accident. Jess couldn't cope with it and spiral down with suicidal thoughts. Owen tried his best to stay strong for the both of them. Maybe moving to a new place would help Jess, he thought. But, it got worst when Jess started seeing things and Owen couldn't handle it anymore.
The beginning was okay. The middle was dragging. The plot twist was 'what'. The ending/epilogue was the best. Kellen done well in terms of writing style. But, it wasn't engaging enough for me.
Jessica and Owen's story is one that will keep you at the edge of your seat. This AMAZING thriller will keep you wanting more and more. But let me tell you never assume anything because that ending sure as hell came out of no where!!!! Ditter did a fantastic job with The Boy in the Window!!!
This was one of the best mystery/suspense thrillers I have read in a long time. Jessica and Owen move to Florida after the death of their son. There are some very strange things happening in their new small community and Jessica and Owen are in for the ride of their lives when their love and trust are tested to the limit.
This was a great listen. The first part started out telling us about the couple’s nightmare of losing their young son and talking about the grief and dealing with it. I normally don’t go for these books due to the sad nature but it said psychological thriller so I was all in. I was so glad I listened to it. Owen decided to transfer in his job to a small town in Florida. Maybe the change would help his wife Jessica cope with the grief. After all, it had been three years. But as soon as they arrive, Jessica spots a young boy in the window of an old house next door. The neighbors aren’t happy when questions are asked. Seems everyone has their secrets. But Jessica won’t give up. She learns there was a young boy named Terry who disappeared years ago. He had lived in that house. Soon she finds she’s painted pictures of him when she doesn’t even remember doing so. She learns she may be psychic. Only some think she’s crazy, including her husband. One person stands by her though. An ex reporter of the case. But what if he has secrets of his own? Who does she trust. Especially when people start dying and she is to blame.
The narration was ok. It sort of grew on me. I felt like she was talking to a child but I increased my speed on audible and it was better.
Audio Review This is my first book by this author and I already have some more! The story starts out with a grieving mother and how her relationship with her husband Owen is falling apart. He has a new job and reluctantly she moves. There is a house beside them empty and she keeps seeing a boy in the window and blacking out drawing pictures of him in different places. The book deals with loss and I can really relate to the characters just losing my fifteen-year-old granddaughter. The author handles this emotion well and we see Owen trying to be strong and hide his emotions for his wife. Then things get crazy and the supernatural twist is just the first. there are several twists, lots of suspects and I did not want to stop listening once I started. Johnny Mack did a great job narrating. I thank him for not using squeaky or weird female voices, though he does soften his enough you know it is a female speaking. I highly recommend this book if you like psychological thrillers, ghosts (harmless ones) a touch of romance and a shocking end.
I loved this book! This is my second book by this author and it is just as awesome as the first one. This author writes with such detail that she makes you feel as if you are right there in the story. I was pulled in right from the beginning and had a hard time putting it down until the last page. The twists and turns had me sitting on the edge of my seat just waiting to see who done it. I loved the characters and I found myself easily connecting to them. I highly recommend this must read story.
This was a quick and easy read. I loved the twists and turns that made me unable to put the book down. I am not a fast reader but finished in a day and a half.
This book is spectacular! I was drawn in from the start to the finish! It had so many twists and turns. And the ending I didn't see coming at all! Hit me from outta left field and threw me for a loop! The characters were so real. This is my first book from this author and I will definitely be reading more!
This book was incredible. At first you’re feeling sympathy for the main character. Then you start feeling a little suspicious of her. And just when you think you have it all figured out...nope a plot twist you never saw coming
I just finished the boy in the window and it was very good the characters are lovable The storyline was amazing this book kept my attention from beginning to the end and I highly recommend it
The Boy in the Window by Ditter Kellan was a great psychological thriller. Jessica and Owen are both still grieving over the loss of their son. Owen took a job in Florida in hopes that a change of scenery will help Jessica. Little did he know this might just tip her over the edge. Jessica starts seeing a boy in an abandoned window. I loved reading Jessica and Owen's story and can't wait to read more by Ditter Kellan.
After losing her son, Jessica has been a walking zombie for the past 3 years. She's let herself go as well as her relationship with her husband slip. Owen is unwilling to let her kill herself under the guilt and loss she feels so he suggests a move to Florida in the hopes that a new place will help Jessica overcome the past and look towards the future they still have. However, things seem to take a turn for the worst when Jessica starts acting weird once again and claiming she's seeing a boy in the abandon house across the street...a little boy that went missing 13 years ago.
I absolutely enjoyed reading this book. From the minute Jessica started down the rabbit hole to discover what happened to the little boy I was constantly trying to guess who did what. I didn't want to suspect the "obvious" person, but... Pick up this book to discover if the obvious person had anything to do with Terry's disappearance.
Another typical Kindle Unlimited book, the equivalent of a bad Lifetime movie (are there any good ones?). Add to that the author's fondness for commas - commas, commas everywhere! - plus a plot that's all over the place, an apparently routine child disappearance (if such a thing could be said to be routine) that suddenly, at the end, takes an incredibly dark turn, and you have a formula for a complete mishmash of a book.
I was going to give this two stars but I just can't. In addition to the grammatical errors and a plot that meanders all over the place, the characters are cardboard cut-outs. Even though it didn't take very long to read this book, I regret wasting the time. So one star it is.
A well written psychological thriller, which will keep you on the edge of your seat. Ditter never lets her readers down. The author hits a home run with this wonderful story of a missing boy and how Jessica continues to deal with grief the of her own son’s death three years ago.
The death of Jessica’s child deeply impacted her marriage, her husband Owen, who is keeping his own grief buried to help his wife heal. When they move to a different state to start a new chapter of their life, strange things are going on across the street and in their new neighborhood.
The twist at the end would make Alfred Hitchcock proud.
The Boy In The Window was the first book I've read by author, Ditter Kellen. This Psychological Thriller was an entertaining concoction of everything I like in a good book. It contained compelling characters, mystery, suspense, angst, and plenty of drama! The standalone story focused on husband and wife, Owen and Jessica Nobles, and their relationship had many hurdles to overcome. At times, their plight had my emotions coiled in knots, and there were some interesting twists & turns I didn't see coming! The plot was set at a perfect, intriguing pace, and it's one of those rare gems you don't want to put down until you've devoured it. I'm placing this novel amongst my 2018 Favorite Reads!
A good psychological thriller keeps you guessing until the very last moment. It gives you clues and hints that make you think you have it all figured out, only for the book to take a sharp left turn that leaves you completely stunned.
Ditter Kellen's The Boy in the Window does exactly that. I loved reading this book! I put my detective hat on and just knew I had it all figured out. Needless to say, I didn't. Never saw that twist coming.
Job well done for this step out of the box for Ditter. Definitely a book worth reading!
I made the mistake of staring this book at 11:00 pm because once I started it I just couldn't put it down. I've recently become a fan of Ditter Kellen and I'm a longtime fan of psychological thrillers and this was a great match. I would highly recommend it to anyone.
