3.33 stars. This 2018 Regency romance is sweet and clean, but deals with some darker issues. The chapters alternate between the heroine's and hero's POV. Nora Ellsworth is under pressure from her family to marry well; their family estate is under an entail, with a grasping cousin anxiously waiting in line. Luckily (maybe?), Nora's mother made arrangements for her to marry a nice young man when they were both babies! Unluckily, she's never met the guy ... until now.
Devlin Fausett is an otherwise great guy dealing with a crippling gambling addiction. I didn't feel like the handling of that issue was realistic in the end, given the seriousness of his problem. Also, did they actually call gambling an "addiction" back in Regency days? I seriously doubt it, and it's one of several things in A Tangled Inheritance that struck me as an anachronism. Another example: a temperature is stated in Celsius degrees, and I'm pretty certain that in the early 1800s England was still using Fahrenheit.
The story itself is interesting, but the writing style is more "telling" than "showing," especially in the first few chapters, which struck me as prosy, like a diary in style. That was probably my main issue with this novel, but toward the end it began to engage me more fully and became much more enjoyable.

A lovely Regency romance with nods to Austen! The most obvious similarity is the "odious male cousin" expecting to inherit the entailed estate a la Mr. Collins from Pride and Prejudice and Mr. William Elliot from Persuasion. More subtle is the similarity of the author's writing style to Jane Austen's in that the narrative is rich with details of daily life and the manners of society. It's not a book that can be read quickly but needs to be savored. I enjoyed Nora and her friendly relationship with Devlin which balanced on the edge of something more throughout the book, complicated by Devlin's gambling addiction and Nora's mother encouraging a courtship with Mr. Browning. Nora exhibits a good deal of compassion for her friend even after learning of his scandal, and also for her sister when she develops a mysterious illness. I appreciate when the heroine of the story is unselfish and caring, I find it inspiring for me in my own life. Devlin's perspective was fascinating since he doesn't fit the usual gambling rake persona. He's troubled by his relationship with his father and there are deeper issues that he's battling at the table. It created a level of anticipation as I read, wondering if Nora could motivate him to change what he needs to in order to find peace in his life. This is the second book by the author and ties into her first, but can be read as a stand alone.

I can't even imagine what it would be like to have the man I was to marry arranged for me from my birth, but that's just what happened to Nora. As a mother, yes, I would like to choose which family my kids marry into, but you can't always arrange for who you will love.
I like that this story is told in alternating points of view--we are treated to Nora's thoughts, as well as to Fausett's. Nora and Fausett have an undeniable chemistry and attraction, but he's not the one whom she is promised to. He's such a nice guy--so handsome, caring, and strong--but his fatal flaw is that he's a gamer, of Regency sorts (which means, he's into gambling). With each point of view, the reader is able to delve deeper into the character's minds and come to understand them better.
I must admit, when Jonathan (the betrothed) showed up, I wondered how in the world Nora was ever going to choose. This story is full of fun characters with highly entertaining situations, none of which I would want to find myself in. Yes, they are great to read about, but no thanks in real life.
This is a companion book to An Inconvenient Romance, but I don't feel they need to be read in order.

Inheritances can be tangled and messy and most definitely have very little regard for love. Nora finds herself well sought after in society and yet, since she was little she has known that her life was leading to a betrothal and marriage to the honorable and wonderful Jonathan Browning. She's never met him and can't help but feel apprehensive as she becomes older and the time is drawing nigh for her to meet and marry him. The Browning family has been in India where they have made their fortune and will soon return to England to allow for Jonathan and Nora's courtship.
Nora is faced with some difficult questions that she can't quite find the answers to. Her mother is of no help as all she can think about is how wonderful the Brownings are. Nora has not allowed her heart to be open to anyone because she has grown up with the expectation of basically being betrothed to a stranger, albeit family friend. But that man she keeps encountering at society functions and outings has definitely caught her attention. When they are set in each others paths again and again Nora and Devlin Fausett start a friendship. And friendship is all it can be. Yet Jonathan and Devlin aren't the only ones who are entranced by Nora's beauty and goodness, the dreaded cousin who will inherit her father's estate has also been keeping his eye on her.
I really enjoyed these characters. There are some struggles that they are each facing individually and I loved how the author addressed them. She didn't make the vice/struggle instantly disappear. They had to work at it to overcome it. There's jealousy and scheming, lies and deceit, truth and hope, friendship and love. The familial relationships explored in this book were also well done. I will say that sometimes I was frustrated with characters and wanted to tell them a thing or two. Shake some sense into them. But of course I couldn't, I had to let them figure it all out and keep reading to see how they all worked together/individually to figure out life.
The writing style was a little different and at first took me a couple chapters to adjust to. But it worked in allowing a greater understanding of two of the characters whose point of view it switched back and forth between. Nora's sister and mother occasionally frustrated me but every regency novel needs a couple irritating characters (like the Bennet sisters and mother right?-except these two weren't quite as irritating).
The scenes with music in it. Oh, how I loved those scenes. Especially with the words written in for the songs. Very sweet and swoony!
Overall I enjoyed this book. It is a stand alone novel but the beginning characters are the main characters from this author's previous book, An Inconvenient Romance. The beginning of the book revolves around their marriage and some matchmaking schemes, and they appear a couple times throughout the book.

I love this cover! It feels so romantic to me.
This story had me completely engrossed. I didn't want to put it down and I was so glad I had a few hours of quiet to read uninterrupted. It doesn't always happen like that!
I loved the characters in this book and the return of some that starred in a previous book. Devlin is flawed but good. Characters that pull you in despite of their flaws, or maybe because of their flaws, are my favorite. Devlin was fantastic and I so enjoyed his attraction to Nora and the way he continued to shift in his attitude until he was fully facing her and his growing love. My romantic heart gives a sigh of contentment at his desire to protect her and do anything he could to see her safe and happy.
The story took some little twists that kept me interested and not completely able to predict everything exactly. I mean, I thought I knew at the beginning what the ending would look like and I was right, but it was the getting there that took some unexpected turns. I liked that a lot.
This was a great regency romance! I would highly recommend it to anyone who loves this genre and even to those who aren't convinced they do! :)

What struck me the most with this book was that moment of certain clarity when Nora and Devlin knew they were truly in love with the other. The author described everything so that we could see it clearly and as deeply as they felt. What that love was like, what it meant to them personally and how the other person made them better. Those moments happened to them at separate times and I was grateful that the author shared that in such a way as to make it very real for the reader and showed the depth of the characters and make me sigh and fall in love too!!
I was very disappointed in our hero, Mr Devlin Fausett, in the beginning. He was a gambler. But he knew it wasn’t the winning that he was at it for. But you have to read the book to find out his reasons for his addiction and his many debts. It isn’t until he is at his worst and with Nora’s anger that he can pick himself up and move forward. But I was also easily charmed by him and couldn’t stay disappointed for long. He is a gentleman after all!
Nora learns secrets as time goes on. She thinks through things. She is not impulsive. She knows she is supposed to marry Jonathan Browning. But there would be no love there. He is a good man. Devlin Fausett is also a good man and a gentleman who comes from a good lineage, but his reputation has her parents not wanting her to think of him for marriage. Devlin is also thoughtful and caring and is able to help in matters that Mr. Jonathan Browning can not! Devlin is more matched to Nora. Devlin knows how to save the day!! Yes, I am swooning over him. I admit it!
There are other little subplots in the story and the story is well developed and kept me reading until I was finished! There is the evil villian in the story. I loved the bits of humor in the turmoil at the end as well. Devlin did make one last wager at the end and he won. Nora was glad he did win that one! You will have to read it to find out what that one was! It was absolutely perfect!
If you like reading about gambling, bad guys, arrogant guys, entail, inheritance, realizing that you love someone very deeply, horses, timepieces, doctors, family then this might be for you! As for me, I’m still swooning!

"A Tangled Inheritance" takes place after "An Inconvenient Romance". The main characters are new, but it has some of the characters from the first book, which is an aspect that I loved. This book is a stand alone book, it's just fun to be reacquainted with familiar characters.
Nora has a quandary. He mother has long held hopes that she would wed the son of her friend, but Nora loves to use her mind and discuss the issues of the day, something that is not applauded in polite society. Devlin challenges her, he accepts her personality for what it is, rather than what others think it should be.
Devlin has his demons to conquer to become the man that Nora needs in her life. He really is a good guy with some bad habits. Unfortunately, those habits are destructive and if not taken care of, will ruin a family and his life. Nora is a person that makes him want to be better and move his life in a positive direction.
This is a great book told from Nora and Devlin's perspectives. It helped me to get to know them better and understand their decisions. The book explored unreasonable expectations and the impact of a family. (Positive parenting vs Negative Parenting) Does Nora choose a life living up to expectations or does she choose a life of love and happiness?
This book contains kissing and non-graphic violence. I would consider it a good fit for any lover of Regency Romance.

Romance, clean, period
A love triangle, and Nora has to figure out who to give her heart and her fortune too. Who is the honest true heart. A redemption story of sorts. This was a lovely read, but the situations seemed a bit forced or contrived to me. I enjoyed most of the writing, and characters, but after a bit, they are forgettable. I read so much that I want that one book that stands out to me as memorable. More of a 3.5 for me as a reader, but rounded up for the beautiful cover art. The cover artist deserves a write up too.
Those who are looking for clean reads that love a nice period setting will enjoy this. I received a copy of the book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for a fair and honest review. All opinions are my own.

This is a stand-alone romance but for those who have read Chalon's previous book An Inconvenient Romance, you will appreciate the appearance of characters from that novel.
This is a fun Regency romance with several twists and turns. It has a few story elements that are quite original and I appreciated that this story was memorable because of those elements. Devlin in a flawed man yet still likable.
Overall a very enjoyable read that I can recommend to any who enjoy clean Regency romance.

This was such a sweet story! I loved how this book explored deeper themes (gambling addiction) that some Regency romance novels seem to shy away from. The characters had real flaws that they had to learn to rise above. I look forward to reading more from Linton.

I love a good regency novel and this one did not disappoint! Nora was a delight and a breath of fresh air! I loved her desire to truly connect with someone and find love for her marriage. Her loyalty to her family was important as well but she really wanted to find love and fulfill her family duty. I could feel her turmoil and unsurety as she struggled with her head and her heart. Devlin on the other hand, he was a hot mess! He wanted to reform himself but man he just could not seem to stay away from his vice! I wondered if he could ever be reformed! And then there was this whole mystery element to the story from Nora's sister to her father, I wanted to know what the heck was going on? And the crazy creepy cousin, his character was brilliantly done! Seriously there was so much going on there was never a dull moment but it was never too much that I couldn't keep up! This book is definitely a keeper and I would recommend it to my friends! I received a copy via the publisher; all thoughts and opinions are my own.

LOVED this book! Just the right amount of suspense and plot twists that kept it moving, and just long enough to make you really fall into the characters and the regency time period.
The characters had real flaws and challenges which was refreshing and made them more relatable.

Nora Ellsworth is a young lady sought after by many eligible men, but knows that since birth she's been promised to Jonathan Browning, who has been living in India. His family is supposedly very wealthy which will help the Ellsworth's estate and help provide for Nora's mother and sister if anything were to happen to her father. Nora doesn't really want to marry without love. She understands how marriages work in their society but would prefer a love match, which she later realizes she would not have with Jonathan Browning.
Enter Mr. Devlin Fauset, who has the reputation of being a gambler, and is in debt because of it. Although he has a plan to get himself out of debt, the reasons for his gambling seem to draw him back to the card table right when I thought he'd gotten a hold of his demons. I was so disappointed in him. The more time Nora and Devlin spend together their attraction to each other grows, which confuses Nora since her mother is really pushing her to marry Jonathan Browning.
Finally, at long last, Nora and Devlin realize their feelings for each other. Nora Ellsworth: "To love someone based on a developed friendship seemed the best sort of companionship possible."
I couldn't believe how set the mothers were about Nora and Jonathan marrying, and they were completely oblivious that these two had no feelings for each other. I don't think they had too much in common to even be friends. I could not have lived in this period of time. Marriages were arranged for the benefits of the families for land and social standing.
I loved when Nora left the ball and went in search of Devlin when he fell off the wagon (so to speak) and started gambling again. I loved her feistiness when she finds him, and that she wouldn't allow him to blame her for his tumble off the wagon. She put the ball in his court but would be there to help him fight the urge to play cards. I liked that Nora's sister and Dr. Hadley also got their own happy ending. Yay for multiple HEAs.
This Regency is aptly named. Let's just say if this had been a contemporary romance a team of lawyers would've been needed to straighten out the inheritance issues in this family. I've read a lot of Regency romances but haven't encountered one with an entail. It certainly did complicate things since the Ellsworth family didn't have any sons, and the closest male cousin was the "insufferable" Mr. Trenton, who couldn't wait to get his hands on Ellsworth Meadows.
This is my first novel by this author although I read a novella by her in CHRISTMAS GRACE. I like that the book is written from the point of view of both Nora and Devin, and the chapters switch between the characters.

This is my first novel by this author although I read a novella by her in CHRISTMAS GRACE. I like that the book is written from the point of view of both Nora and Devin, and the chapters switch between the characters.

Wonderful, emotionally driven, clean, historical romance! I can’t wait to check out other books by this author. She has a gift for drawing the reader in with her true to life characters and setting descriptions. One of the focuses of this novel was overcoming personal flaws...how we can if we really try and others too have faith in us. Highly recommended to readers of this genre.

New author Chalon Linton's writing is going from strength to strength. In the opening chapters we return to Riverton Park, and are back with Charles Brumley & Leah Hastings, of her debut novel, 'An Inconvenient Romance'. I always love returning back to loved characters and places - and this was no exception. That connection provides the perfect opener to the telling of Devlin Fausett's story. Best friend to Charles, he was pivotal in uniting him with Leah. Something that they will be forever grateful for, and he is welcomed into their home. However Devlin is a very private person and probably for good reason. He has a weakness, that was perhaps easy to hide for the gentry. The constant flow of money, would feed the gambling addiction. Personally, one thing I love about this era & the stories written about it, is the tendency to get a strong male lead. I would not be surprised that this may cause an issue for some readers. After all, there seems to be no escape, and as with addiction the removal of hope. I liked that he and the heroine of the story, Nora Ellsworth, have already been introduced as the story begins. It removes some of that awkwardness, and there is already some semblance of an attraction. I loved how there was a family connection to Leah, those personal relationships all playing a part in weaving this whole plot together.
When it comes to historical fiction, I appreciate when the story moves around locations. I am not a fan of scenes in London, probably because I cannot imagine that I would have enjoyed that aspect very much! My favourite scenes are always out on the country estate and family seat. There is oodles of variety here between the balls, musical events and country house parties. Very early on we are introduced to a Mr Trenton, the presumed heir apparent of Ellsworth Meadows. Disliked by Nora and her family. With little sense of propriety he seems to keep randomly popping up. Devlin's struggles are genuine and real, the lack of hope for his future is an emotion you readily feel. The arrival of the Browning family, brings with it another element to the plot, back from India with a mystery of their own. Nora's mother is just delighted that she will be able to realize the plan to marry Nora to their son, Jonathan, will come to fruition. Thankfully, he is not an ogre, because having another handsome seemingly great catch thrown into the circle is so much better! Everything about this story was engaging, so many twists & turns throughout, many moments to make you go 'ahh', I could not put this book down!
What may have irritated readers about Devlin in the beginning actually, in my view brings a genuine heartfelt connection to me as I read about his weaknesses. While we are not all struggling with a gambling addiction, we will likely have our own problems that maybe we are drowning in. Where is our hope and our deliverance. Nora shines a light in his world, and is the reason he finally decides to make a change. Yet, it doesn't come smoothly, and setbacks appear. There is a part in the dialogue that discusses the difference between weaknesses that can make us weaker, and then others that we will become stronger because of them. I pondered on that as I followed the pathway that Devlin took. He is such a great character - loyal and dedicated and a defender of truth. Nora see's these qualities in him early on, and even when she discovers his hidden secrets, she never gives up on him. Bearing the weight on her shoulders of being oldest of the two sisters, she realizes that she must make a great match, as they are set to loose the family home to Mr Trenton upon her fathers death. The twists and turns in this plot line sets us up for a fantastic conclusion, and I just loved the resolution to the entail problem.
Strong, engaging characters full of many great qualities you will connect with Nora and Devlin, their chemistry as you read this beautiful and very enjoyable book. I will be purchasing this for my book shelves. I highly recommend this book to all readers of clean christian historical romance fiction.

Author Chalon Linton has written an engaging and delightful regency romance in her A Tangled Inheritance. Told from the perspectives of two different characters, Nora and Devlin, helps readers better understand what is taking place throughout the story. Both characters and the story will draw readers in as they come to life and readers get to know the characters. This is a fairly easy, light, and quick read that those that enjoy historical, regency, romance will definitely want to pick up and fall into. This is definitely a sweet regency romance that readers will adore!

I enjoyed this book quite a bit. Mr. Fausett and Nora are both quite sympathetic, likable characters. Nora is a bright, cheerful sort of person, who dearly loves her family, but wants a husband who doesn't mind talking about subjects other than fashion and the Ton. She's quite shocked when she discovers just how desperately her family needs her to marry. And her parents choice is Jonathan Browning, a young man she likes, but isn't so sure she can love.
Mr. Devlin Fausett is a pleasant, kind man with a gambling addiction. He really likes Nora but knows that his bad habits and debts make him an unworthy choice for her. But he can't help taking advantage of her friendship when she offers her help in overcoming his addiction.
A sweet love builds as Devlin and Nora start as friends and slowly become more than that. Nora's troubles with her sick sister and desperate parents combine with Devlin's gambling struggles to create a believable set of circumstances.

Three stars may be a little generous on this one. I don’t like when the main male character is weak and Devlin definitely was weak due to his addiction. Nora’s character was just okay. I listened to this on audio and there were places where I had to speed up the audio as things seemed to just go on and on. There were some good parts but mostly it was predictable and moved too slow.

Fun regency romance by Chalon Linton. This enjoyable story is told from the perspectives of Nora Ellsworth and Devlin Fausett. Nora is a smart, talented heroine who could have her pick of men but has been expected to marry Jonathan Browning since birth. Devlin is a handsome, musically talented gambler who has a bad reputation for high stakes games. His family has threatened to cut him off if he doesn't stop his gambling. When he meets Nora at a friend's wedding party, he is immediately taken with the beauty and vows to change to try to be worthy of her. However, when Nora learns she must marry to keep her family's estate, she must chose between the man she loves and the one she is expected to marry.
One of the things I really enjoyed about this book was the fact that the hero had an addiction to gambling, but was inspired by the heroine to change for the better. I also liked that Nora was not a pushover. She has feelings for Devlin, but isn't willing to compromise on his gambling and offers support to him when he tries to change.
There's plenty of action along with a sweet romance. Several twists emerge throughout the book that kept me quickly turning the pages. Anyone who enjoys sweet historical romances would enjoy this book.

I absolutely loved this one! This author has become a favorite and I bought this on the reputation of the previous novel. I loved how Nora and Devlin became friends before the romance blossomed. There is mystery, evil cousins, and definitely a happy ever after!

Devlin Fausett and Charles Brumley have been friends for many years. Brumley is getting married and has invited Fausett to attend his wedding. The bride to be is cousins with Miss Nora Ellsworth and so begins this love story.
Devlin struggles with gambling. He has an addiction and he has recognized that he has a problem but he has no support or assistance to stop going to the tables again. He struggles with money as a consequence and a potential match.
"I would bot pursue any further connection with Miss Ellsworth. From our one interaction, I knew she deserved better."
Leah, is at a marriageable age. Her parents have arranged a marriage for her but she doesn't want this for her life. She has never met her intended but feels its her obligation to do this for her family. Leah, actually enjoys meaningful conversation and discussing topics that make one think. Mr. Fausett is enjoyable to talk to and doesn't patronize her for being a woman.
As the story continues to develop, the reader finds out that Leah's parents have a secret and Leah has a choice to make.
From the very beginning, this book confused me. Each chapter is told in the first person (which is unusual for this style of book) and each chapter is from the POV of either Mr. Fausett or Miss Ellsworth. Perhaps with a physical book this would have been less confusing but I read the book on a kindle. It took me a few switches to realize the style of writing.
The author uses India as where the Browning's are from. I believe this is not accurate. I believe that, during 1818, India was still referred to as the West Indies and I'm not sure the Browning's would tell people they have been living in India. So this didn't seem accurate to me.
I didn't like Leah's mother. She's not mean but I disliked her because she's one of those people who tells so many lies that they believe them themselves. This was frustrating for me to watch Leah but pushed into a marriage with stranger, basically.
I found what seemed to be inconsistencies with the Brownings. But it could be that the author just chose not to explain more about their characters. Perhaps, Leah could have been more inquisitive about them or had Mr. Browning have a q&a with Leah so that the reader could learn more about them. I think because of a lack of info and misinformation from mom, I didn't like their characters.
Overall, this book was just okay for me. The beginning was confusing with the back and forth between two different POVs, that I wasn't expecting. The beginning throws you right into these peoples lives with no much set up for a novel. The middle of the book was good. I liked most of the characters. The beginning of the end but strange for me. The book takes a strange path for awhile then even out in the end. The ending was a bit long, but mostly because I didn't like the direction the author was taking the story. The ending was a bit overboard for me. Unconventional. The actual ending was good it just took a long time getting there. I would recommend with reservation.

I really enjoyed reading this one! It's a Regency Romance and the author did such a great job with it! I loved the way the story line really draws the reader in and makes them not want to stop reading until the very end. And doesn't the cover make you just want to pick it up? I love the cover on this one!
Nora is the heroine of the book. She's a young woman who is beloved by all. She's known pretty much her whole life that she is supposed to marry Jonathan Browning, her mom and his mom had decided they would marry when they were both very young. But the Brownings moved to India and Nora doesn't even know him. And there's a secret that no one outside of Nora's parents know as well. I loved Nora, I loved the way she wanted to be able to choose with her heart, not what her parents told her to do. I loved her courage and the way she chose to be friends with Mr Fausett, even with the bad gossip about him.
I liked Mr Fausett as well. You see the book through his eyes, as well as Nora's. I loved the way that balanced the book out. I love the way it makes it so the reader knows things before the characters. This is one of those books where I wanted to yell at the characters to watch out! I liked that even though Mr Fausett thought he was a coward, he really wasn't, he just needed someone to believe in him...someone like Nora.
The plot of this one is great! I loved that there was some tense moments. And that I didn't know how the book was going to turn out until I'd finished reading it.

This was a great read. It has many fun elements. A huge tangled web of motives and deceit, multiple suiters, pushy parents, a sick sister, romance, etc. Wonderfully intricate story!!

All I can say is I'm disappointed. I had higher hopes for the storyline, but it was all too frustrating. I can't believe she kept defending a man who was clearly not a good person. I don't believe for a second that a man with such a serious gambling addiction just gives it all up after meeting one woman. She was defending him against people who had the right to not trust him, and she even bought back his horse he stupidly gambled away because she felt bad for him! Ahhh! Run girl! I kept thinking, "Why does the author want me to hate these main characters?" Because I really disliked them.
Also, I loved her side romantic interest; he was kind, a gentleman, handsome, their mothers were best friends, and they were already kind of betrothed. He conveniently ended up being in love with another woman in the epilogue which made no sense and came out of no where, a way for the author to make you feel less bad about the fact that the main girl messed everything up!
It was painfully obvious the father was being poisoned and didn't understand why it took this "world renowned" doctor so long to figure that out!? Haha, the inheritance twist was so convenient to make the plot magically work out, I was rolling my eyes. I ended up speeding up the audiobook reading speed to get through it quickly so I could move on. Won't read again.
Also, I loved her side romantic interest; he was kind, a gentleman, handsome, their mothers were best friends, and they were already kind of betrothed. He conveniently ended up being in love with another woman in the epilogue which made no sense and came out of no where, a way for the author to make you feel less bad about the fact that the main girl messed everything up!

What a fun enjoyable read. It moved along well, and even though I didn't get the chance to read it as fast as I would have liked (kids and chores kept calling my name and needing things...rude, right?) it is a quick read.
I think my favorite thing about this book was Nora. She's just a great character. I enjoyed her loyalty and her friendship. I enjoyed her determination to not be bullied and to do it all with grace.
The thing I disliked most was the gambling aspect. I just kept thinking about how that could/can really ruin a marriage, and I'm not sure it was completely flushed out in the end. I can't say more without spoilers, but it was kind of a hang up for me. Devlin is a great character though. The guy on the cover has a beard, and I did not picture him with one, but honestly, I never do even if it says they have one. Random, but there it is.
I will look forward to more from this author.

A Tangled Inheritance is a very enjoyable story. It is well-written with great characters, and has just the right amount of intrigue with the scheming relations. The romance is sweet.
I felt that the message of the book was about trying to be true to oneself, especially while dealing with familial pressures.
For some reason the use of the word addiction throughout the story seemed too modern. I wondered if there was another term they would have used. But the inclusion of a gambling addiction by the main character seemed unique for this genre, and I enjoyed reading about Devlin finding something he wanted more than gambling.
If you are looking for a clean Regency romance, that's also a fast read, I recommend A Tangled Inheritance. I'm looking forward to reading more from this author.

If the cover doesn’t draw you into the book, I don’t know what else will. Excellent choice! This is a regency period book with a great clean love story woven throughout.
This is not your typical hero being an exemplar male. His name is Devlin and he has a pretty big flaw or weakness. I think it takes awhile to warm up to him since you expect all leading men to just be well, pretty close to perfect when reading a novel. I mean, we get the real world right in front of us daily so to jump into a book where things are a little more rosy is pretty normal. I enjoyed this approach to the main character and his ability to overcome his weaknesses when another person believed in him.
I love the idea of change and how no matter what our circumstance may be, we can always change. It just takes a decision and a lot of hard work. Great clean romance and a fast read. Highly recommend.

This is an interesting book, it is true to the era. It is a cute concept and the characters are quite good. It is a quick read in it is written well. However, it’s a slow read in that it takes time for development. ⭐️⭐️⭐️
