Can Dylan tame a bunch of hyper iguanas and come up with a masterful plan to save the WORLD? Yeah, probably... but he's going to need a MASSIVE cheese pizza.
Dylan has wanted a superpower for as long as he can remember, especially since his brother and sister have got really cool ones. But when his wish finally comes true, Dylan is MIGHTILY disappointed. For Dylan has become ... Iguana Boy. He can talk to Iguanas ... RUBBISH! And when supervillain Celina Shufflebottom kidnaps all the superheroes in London, Dylan must work out how to use his new team of chatty iguanas to save the day. He's going to have to think outside the box, (the pizza box) , if he's going to become the hero he's always dreamed of. If he's going to make Iguana Boy cool.
It was very funny and especially funny at the start when they were describing the characters. SPOILER ALERT: Iguana Boy is a 9 year old boy with 2 siblings; Millie Monday, and Arctic Thunder. Arctic Thunder is 16 years old and his real name is Sam. Millie Monday is 14 years old and can roast chicken in 30 seconds with her eyes, and her favourite day is Monday. Sam and Millie didn't believe that Dylan, (Iguana Boy) would get a superpower. Little did they know, he did! He discovered it by finding an iguana. He started talking, and the iguana replied! He got so confused and carried on talking. The iguana asked him if he could speak to one of his neighbours cats, and all he could hear was a meow. The iguana asked if he could talk to a bird up in the tree, but all he could hear was the bird whistling gracefully. I would recommend reading it if you like books just like Diary of a Wimpy Kid. Anyways, overall I would definitely rate it 5 stars.
Such a popular genre right now, authors have to find a new angle to stand out. This one definitely caught our eye - we had to chuckle at the title and then see just how a triple cheese pizza might save the world.
It's a bit crazy, but my son loved it. It took me a couple of weeks to read at bedtimes, but he would always moan at the end of a chapter, wanting to keep going. Always a good sign.
In a family with two superhero siblings already, it is third child Dylan who desperately craves superpowers, to help mankind and generally be noble and philanthropic. His brother and sister don't believe it will ever happen. But one day... Dylan finds his power!!! He can.... talk to IGUANAS?!
How Dylan and some new friends attempt to save the world from a devious young super-villain is a very humorous journey, with comic panels, lots of silly goings-on, and yes - pizza.
The story was not straightforward to read aloud, with back and forth from Dylan's story to comic strips of superheroes in action (not great for a teacher reading aloud to a class, for example), but one-on-one at bedtime it was no problem. Lots of chance for silly voices (note: FOUR iguana voices needed!).
My son will probably manage this complexity of text by himself in a couple of years, but his understanding at seven is adequate to cope with this as a listener. I would say the recommended age range would be 7-12.
Children developing superhero powers, reluctantly or otherwise, seems to be quite topical in children’s literature at the moment. In Iguana Boy Dylan, however, has quite given up on ever developing his powers, especially as his siblings already have a superpower each. Suddenly he discovers that his power has manifested, unfortunately though his power means he can only talk to his pet Iguana Paul, and all other iguanas. It doesn’t seem to be particularly useful until the Platypus Kid launches an attack in her aim for world domination. It is up to Paul and his team of iguanas to stop her. Cleverly balanced with comic strip style black and white illustrations from Rikin Parekh it is full of humour and unexpected plot twists. It will appeal to readers of Kid Normal, My Brother is a Superhero and Tom Gates.
A fun book which has no agenda other than wanting to be a superhero and save the world! Dylan's siblings have superpowers. When Dylan finally discovers that he has a superpower - it is talking to iguanas - what use is that? Partial comic book format therefore not as good for reading aloud - but a great story. Fun, silly and escapism Shortlisted for the Blue Peter best book award - chosen by children
A boy, a pizza and a plethora of iguanas - what’s not to like! Fast paced super hero story with lashings of humour as Dylan discovers that his super power is talking to iguanas (who are all called Paul). Can this crew save the world from the super villain Platypus Kid when she traps all the other superheroes?
243 pgs. This is a wacky series that boys will definitely love reading. The main character is in search of his superpower. When he realizes what he can do, it doesn't seem like much. However, as a reader progresses through the story, you will see he has underestimated the value of his talent. This is a humorous fiction book written in a British style, so don't let the difference in word spellings throw you off. It is silly and fun, and kids will love it. Highly recommended for Grades 4-6.
hello everyone. this book I got at Asda for £4 and I thought I would get it because it looked really good. and I was right. this book was so good I even read it to midnight to try and finish it.
Platypus kid has captured and trapped every superhero in the world. Iguana boy who platypus kid doesn't know is actually a superhero, can he save the world using his triple cheese pizza and his pet iguanas?
