Alyssa Satin Capucilli was born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1957. She graduated from Sarah Lawrence College, and pursued her interest in dance, becoming a professional dancer and dance instructor. Though Capucilli had written stories, poems, and even puppet shows as a child, she didn't consider a career as a writer until after her own two children were born. To this day she sees herself as both a dancer and a writer, and the two professions complement each other nicely: dancing is, in her words, “telling stories in another way,” and readers of her children's books can attest to the rhythm of her language. Since 1994, she has written more than 15 books for children, and her work has been translated into French, Hebrew, Afrikaans, Greek, and Bulgarian.
Capucilli lives in Hastings-on-Hudson, New York, with her husband and children. They have a chocolate Labrador retriever named Huckleberry, who likes to watch the author at work.
SUPER FAST REVIEW: This book is possibly the cutest thing I’ve read! In this one Biscuit is playing and finds an even smaller little puppy... but that puppy seems shy. I’m not gonna spoil the surprisingly suspenseful plot with a twist ending but it is so cute. The story is nice and I love the art as always. It’s slightly funny too. Though my typical reading tastes lean towards the darker, more twisted side of literature it is nice to have a series of happy books that I love and can read to my puppy (well okay my dog’s actually 12 years old but will always be my sweet little baby puppers)!
Biscuit books were some of the very first books Julia fell in love with. When I saw this at the store I snatched it up and brought it home to her and she thought I was going to read the story to her. While she isn't yet learning to read I figured I can use it to at least get her started. And that's what we did. I think this book and those like it are very valuable tools for getting a child ready to start learning to read. Julia has fun not only listening to the story but finding the words she already knows but sounding out the words she doesn't know. And I had a great time helping and watching her learn. it's an awesome feeling to teach your child a word and then have them find and say that word back to you days later. :)
Kiddo didn't want to read this one. He thought it was going to be too hard, until I opened it to the first page. Then he said "oh, this is EASY!" and read it no problem. don't judge a book by it's cover. Good level 1+.
Biscuit books aren't designed to make parents love them, but they are written to make children proud of reading them by themselves. Biscuit and the Little Pup is a great book for a beginning reader.
When Biscuit finds a little pup in the park, he wants the pup to play with him. But the little pup won't come over to look at Biscuit's ball or to chew on a bone. In fact, he won't come out of his cozy hideaway at all! Is the little pup lost? How will Biscuit get the little pup to come out? Can he help his new friend's owner find the little pup too? Biscuit continues to charm the hearts of friends old and new in this, his twelfth adventure for the youngest of readers.
Biscuit, always a very popular little fella with kids now has a little puppy following him around.
This was endearing story and the book was perfect for children learning how to read. The words were in relatively large font with simple sentence structures. I would definitely pick this one up for little readers.
Biscuit helps make a shy little pup feel safe enough to come out and play.
This has easy vocabulary to make it approachable for beginning readers. The plot line is sweet, simple and easily predictable but the plot usually isn't the main point of readers as much as the reading practice. Hand this one to dog lovers learning to read.
A friend gave us several of the “Biscuit books.” Right now my 20 month old girl just likes the picture of the dog and the dog sounds (“woof!” and “arf!”) but I foresee this being an ideal book when she starts reading. It has simple sentences, repetition, cute illustrations, and a simple plot.
Another adorable adventure with Biscuit. Biscuit meets a small puppy who seems to be lost and scared. Biscuit eventually helps the puppy feel comfortable and find its owner.
A very simple book that’s great for a first time reader or to read out loud to little ones, especially if you don’t mind making some barking noises. The art is cute the story is simple but sweet.
