Great teen/middle grade series

Dragon school, book 3 continues the story with more lessons of friendship, growing up, dragons, and coming of age with our characters from the other books. Nice series, great dragons!

Dragon School: The Dark Prince is the third instalment of Sarah K.L. Wilson’s Dragon school series, and if I’m completely honest it is my least favourite thus far. Dragon School: First Flight and Dragon School: Initiate were both wonderful stories, ones that pulled me in and left me wanting more. While I did enjoy Dragon School: The Dark Prince, I feel as though it was not quite to the same standard as the prior stories.

Dragon School: The Dark Prince does move our story forward well. More of the world comes to light, characters continue to develop, and the story moves forward. However, I feel as though it did not hit me as hard as the prior instalments. While the story did move forward at a fast pace, I feel as though there wasn’t quite as much action. It wasn’t a filler book, as things did happen, but I wanted more action to ensure I enjoyed it as much as the prior instalments. I wanted things to hit me hard, whereas this book seemed to be focused more on giving us new information regarding the elements that are coming into play.

In truth, I feel as though the events in this book are going to be pivotal going forward. The new elements we were introduced to were a lot of fun, the way things developed between the characters has me excited for more, and the way this story ended has me wanting to grab the next instalment instantly. It may not have blown my mind, but it was another interesting read. It progressed the story forward well, and I’m still addicted – hence my four-star rating when I consider it to be more of a three-point-five-star read.

Overall, worth picking up if you’re enjoying the series thus far – whatever comes next, I cannot wait to read.

Hunted by Majika's, Amel, Leng, Roalcan and Ahlskibi have been thrown off course. They seek refuge on a secluded island to gather their bearings and figure out their next steps. Though Leng is still in terrible condition, Amel meets the Prince of Baojang, and he offers Amel help for her friend, in exchange for some information on his future bride. However, not all prince's are as charming as they may seem - what could he be doing so far away from home and with out his fleet?

When Leng is well enough to ride, he insists that he must get Amel back into the rightful hands of a Dragon School teacher. Being that they lost most of their knot in battle, it would be considered improper for a full Dragon Rider to travel with an initiate. With Dragon School so far away and mostly empty (with just about everyone sent on different missions), he takes her to where one of the closest groups of students and Grandis are - the Ruby Isles.

Luckily, that's exactly where Amel needs to go! She has to warn the Dominion of the plotted treachery and stop her friend Savette's wedding before her intended uses her as a pawn to get his wicked way. Unfortunately, it's seems like no matter how much Amel proves herself, people will continue to doubt her. Even her so called friends.

Leng pulls rank over Amel in a tactless effort to keep her safe. He makes her keep silent about everything and promises to handle it all himself, while Grandis Elfar agrees with his decision. At every chance she takes to expose the truth she gets shut down. But soon, everyone will realize that perhaps if they had just listened to Amel instead of doubting her, things could've ended very differently.

There's a missing initiate, a war brewing, Majika's and dragon riders scattered all over, a traitor in their group, and let's not forget the hurt between Amel and her friends.

The Dark Prince is the third novella in Sarah K.L. Wilson's Dragon School serial. This is a fast paced, YA fantasy short story.

The world building expands even more in this installment, and we get introduced to a few new characters, as well as better aquatinted with older ones. We spend some time in the Ruby Isles with one of the other knots of Dragon School Riders, after Amel's group was basically destroyed.

I didnt enjoy this one as much as the first two, but that's not to say I didn't enjoy it all - I did. I just felt like this installment was more of a build up for the upcoming novellas. It wasn't quite a filler, as it did provide some important parts to the story, and chracter developments, but it just didn't "wow" me. There is still a lot of suspense and action and mystery as the others, which I love. Its those elements that really grab on to you and keep you reading until the end.

There was a lot of "love" in this part, which gave it all a different feel. And I say it like that because: theres the drama of an arranged marriage between Savette and the Prince of Baojang, and of course, there's the addition of Starie trying to come in between for her own terrible reasons (so, not exactly love, but "romantic" drama, I guess). I enjoyed that - it added to the story and gave us better insights into who those characters are. Then there's the love between Amel and Roalcan - which melts my heart! I absolutely love their friendship and I really enjoy seeing it become stronger as the story progresses. But then.. there was this strange sort of romance - or hints of romantic feelings - between Amel and Lang. I didn't enjoy that so much. Especially after how he treated her in this part! Yes, I could understand his reasoning, but even still, how he went about trying to keep her safe was just terrible - even more so considering how many times shes saved him . I'm hoping that if anything happens between them in that sense it's not for a long while and after he's proved himself. It seemed too early for anything like that to happen between them, and with the way he kept disregarding her, thinking he knew better was just annoying.

I'm very excited to see how Amel and her group will try to rescue Savette, prevent a war and figure out what to do with Starie.

What an awesome read! I loved this story, even if it did feel much more shorter than the rest, I loved it!

What I love about these sequels is that they follow up just where we left off. Amel and Leng have escaped the Magikas and Starie, just. But they are exhausted and Leng is still feverish. There isn't much for Amel to do but when they land on an island and meet the Dark Prince, Amel suspects there is more going on with the arrange marriage with her friend Savette and the prince.
Amel knows Savette's life is in danger, but how can she warn her when no one will listen to a cripple girl?

Together, we will see Amel fight with courage and fear, we see her persistence and resistance throughout the novel, even when no one believes she can help, she still tries her best. This is why I love Amel, she gives 110% on everything she does. And I love her relationship with her purple dragon, Raolcan, its sweet and funny, their bond is unique.
And there's Leng, he gives Amel mixed signs. One time there is gentleness and care and another the next he is distant and cold. I love Leng and Amel together, so I do hope he reveals his feelings for her really soon.

Awesome read, cannot wait to start the next one!

Received a copy from the author herself, in exchange for an honest review, thank you!

Meh... I really don’t like short stories so reading these books is annoying to me. Because they’re so short there’s no character or world building and I don’t feel like I relate anything in this world. I think I’m going to stop here.

Another bite sized instalment in this series, although I struggled with the characterisations of many of the side characters here. Characters that I had started to like from previous instalments began to behave in obnoxious ways and the insistence of Amel's silence without any explanation of why got old quickly. The protagonist forgiving an 'over-protective' male when they are being controlling as hell is a particular pet peeve of mine though, so I was particularly disappointed to find the trope re-run here.

I'd also hazard a guess that this is more of a filler instalment, which are annoying enough in full length novels. Whilst it does add some background and does move the overall narrative on slightly, I can't help but think that everything that happens here could easily have been added into the surrounding episodes, making them feel fuller and more in depth.

I still feel that the world-building and character development in these novella's is rushed. Again, this very much feels like a 'chapter' of a larger narrative, and one where you have to read on if you want to get the full story. If you have Kindle Unlimited these are worth looking at, otherwise it's an expensive way to get short bites that may eventually add up into a larger whole.

It's getting boring with the 5 star reviews on this series, but I just really love it, ok? I really love the way Amel is growing into herself, finding out she's not just a burden because of her disability, but that she's worth something, that her bond with Raolcan works really well and that she's capable of doing and achieving things and that she's not afraid anymore to tell others exactly that. She's not just beaten down by opinions other people have about her, she's starting to realize what she's worth and I just love that. And Raolcan... with every episode I start to love him more. I want one, ok? ;)
The episodes are action packed and an easy read and constantly leave me longing for more. I just love this!

The Dark Prince is the third book in the Dragon school series, sadly, it is my least favorite of the three. First Flight and Initiate were both great stories full of action and they pulled me in right away. However, this book does move the story forward. We learn more about the world and the characters. Once again, we are left with a cliff hanger.

Amel is out of her element in this book; she is a bit too whiny over the little things. There is also a lot of tough love being spread around that makes you question some of the other character's motives.

I did enjoy this book, just not as much as the first two, that could be because it is less action and more details. I am still looking forward to the next book and to see where the story (and action) go from here!

Amel no longer knows who she can trust. She is surrounded with secrets and sworn to secrecy, but for what reason? Amel is strong and a fierce protector of her friends. What lengths will she go to to save those she cares about?

I love Amel. She is so strong and has to work twice as hard because of her disability. She recognizes that others see her as weak and in need of saving, instead of a dedicated dragon rider. I'm looking forward to Amel proving just how capable she is.

In this book, we get to start learning about the antagonists and I love it. Amel really shows her courage in intense situations. Her relationships with others start to deepen and we start to learn the good guys from the bad guys. The adventure is really starting to pick up and it's great.

Dragon School: The Dark Prince is book three in Sarah K.L. Wilson’s Dragon School series. In Dragon School: The Dark Prince we are reunited with Amel and Leng right where things left off. Amel and Leng are fleeing from the Magikas who have murdered one of the teachers and a student in their quest for power and control of the dragons. Amel’s fellow Initiate, Starie, has joined the Magikas and betrayed the school in her own quest to be the one who marries the Prince. Leng is still terribly sick, and Amel must get him help if he is to survive. Amel is desperate to find the others and warn them of the treachery and danger that is afoot, but first she must stay alive and help Leng. When they land on an island, they soon discover that they are not alone. It is here that Amel crosses paths with the Dark Prince, and is able to see for herself a piece of what is to come.
Dragon School: The Dark Prince continues the story of Amel on her quest to become a Dragon Rider. She struggles with her disability, but she never stops and wallows because of it. She pushes forward and tries to be on par with the others around her. There are hints at a budding romance between Amel and Leng, but something tells me that this might be forbidden at this point when they are reunited with others from the school. Amel is also reunited with her friend from the school, who begged her for her help before when Amel had the scroll. Amel is once again torn between doing what she thinks is right and doing as she has been told by an elder.
The plot continues to thicken in this story as the web being woven becomes tighter and thicker. There are points of where you will wonder what exactly is going on in certain scenes. Amel is told not to tell anyone of what she has seen, but yet she feels obligated to tell someone. It’s frustrating for her when she feels that she is being dismissed because of her disability. I feel in a couple situations that she should have done more or tried a different tact.
The story is well written. It ends on an intense cliffhanger, but it just makes me more eager for the next book in this series. I’m excited to learn what happens next with Amel, Leng, and their dragons as the dangers around them come closer and become more real for all. I am rating this book 5 out of 5 stars. I enjoyed this book very much and highly recommend it.

The adventure of Amel and Raolcan continues and this was the most frustrating book of the first four. Fortunately, I was lucky enough to be able to continue immediately.
Firstly, Amel faces incredible amount of unfairness in this book, even from the people who have showed her kindness previously. It is infuriating to see how people change so easily and disregard Amel and what she has to say. She is nothing if not persistent, honourable and honest. She is also by far the bravest and strongest person in the whole story. She already achieved the impossible in the realm of dragon riders, however, that gets forgotten quite often.
There is so much intrigue and conspiracy in this book. It is not unexpected as we already get a hint of what might happen in the previous book, but the reactions of people who should know better are nothing short of a surprise. Some of the actors  are stubbornly clinging to their preconceptions of certain individuals, it is infuriating.
We meet a very important character Rakturan, the Dark Prince of Baojang. There are hints that he will become very important to the story, as the future ruler of the kingdom on the brink of war with the Dominion. There are some new side characters introduced and some familiar characters from the previous books are featured prominently here. There is even a hint of romance.
It is blatantly clear that even the most experienced dragon riders and teachers do not fully understand the behaviour and personalities of the purple dragons, which are a special kind in their own right. That said, the special relationship between Amel and Raolcan is unique. It is based on mutual respect, understanding and incredible friendship.
I could not wait to see how they overcome future obstacles. Fortunately I was able to read the next book immediately. Needless to say, I devoured both books in one breath.
The series only makes sense if read in order: Dragon School: First Flight (Dragon School #1), Dragon School: Initiate (Dragon School #2), Dragon School: The Dark Prince (Dragon School #3), Dragon School: Ruby Isles (Dragon School #4), Dragon School: Sworn (Dragon School #5) and more books have been announced.

A delightful fantasy that I could not put down!

The story opens with Leng and Amel having been landed on an island by their dragons after escaping an attack on them and surviving a storm while aloft on their dragons. Leng is seriously injured, and unconscious. The dragons have been taking turns watching over their riders the few hours Amel slept. Her dragon, Raolcan, alerts her to company from a ship that has stopped at the island. Here we meet Prince Raktaran of Baojang, a mysterious man that seems untrustworthy and is very haughty, but shows Amel the flowers she needs to use to make a tincture to give Leng to help him recover from what could be a deadly illness. From further comments the Prince makes about his bride and what he does expects in the form of wedding presents, 20 dragons and their riders, Amel decides not to trust him and plans to warn her friend who is to be his bride.
Leng recovers under Amel’s care and they fly to Ruby Isles. First Leng, then the school instructor, sternly admonish Amel to say nothing about what she has been through or seen. After only 1 day of flight training and a night of rest, the Prince arrives. During the dinner, before Amel can warn her friend Savette of danger, the Prince and Savette are attacked and Savette is kidnapped! Despite galant efforts by Leng to stop the kidnapper, and Amel’s dramatic rescue aboard Leng’s dragon, the kidnapping succeeds.
Does Leng care more deeply about Amel than she thinks? Why was Savette kidnapped and will her friend be rescued? What about the traitorous dragon flyer Starie that returns just prior to the kidnapping- will she be caught and forced to help find the kidnapped girl? Are there redeeming qualities to Prince Raktaran? I anxiously await the next volumes to continue this delightful story.

And yet again, another fun and exciting adventure with Amel and her ever loyal dragon, Raolcan. In this short novella, Amel and Leng slowly make their way to the Ruby Islands to forewarn the Dominion of the dragon takeover by Magikas. When she finally makes her way there she finds her friend, Savette, in need of an ally while she faces marrying the Prince of Baojang. What ensues is a treacherous betrayal and utter chaos, as Amel finds herself trying to help her friends, but being thwarted at every turn. I really hope Amel is taken serious one of these days. I also found her relationship with Leng to be quite charming. It’s nice to see her growing up and finding more confidence in herself and her abilities. I’ll be rooting for her until the end!

If you’re looking for a fun, quick read I would highly recommend this book! I would recommend this for readers of young adult fantasy. I would recommend starting from the beginning.

Dragon School: The Dark Prince is the third book in the Dragon School series.

In this third installment, Amel has triumphantly emerged from an assault coordinated by the Magikas and those who want to instigate a rebellion. Amel has managed to keep Leng alive despite the attack, but Leng falls gravely ill on the journey. It is up to Amel to nurse him back to health and also ensure their survival. As fate would have it, she comes across a man that almost immediately puts her on defensive mode. This man, the prince, appears to be a friend but she never fully trusts his intentions. He quickly shows that like most nobles, he will not waste time on Amel.
Finding herself alone with an ailing Leng, Amel completely relies on Roalcan for guidance and support in seeing this challenge through. Once again Amel and Roalcan work as a team to prevail. As soon as Leng starts to recover, they travel to the Ruby Isles back to safety. Amel is reunited with her Dragon School Grandis (instructor) but she has to share grave news with the Grandis. Leng goes into full Dragon Rider mode acting all business and starts to act cold towards Amel. This confuses her and she starts to feel a mixture of disappointed with anger.

In this book we start to see a different side to Amel, one that longs for closeness with Leng. Is it an amorous longing or yearn for a true friend? Several instances start to point to the possibility that whatever it may be, this longing might be mutual. The story has certainly taken on new level of complexity as one of Amel’s friends from Dragon School is in grave danger and Leng has promised he will right all that is wrong. I hope that in the next book we get to see more of the dynamics between Amel and Leng, both as close friends and fellow riders.

Dragon School: The Dark Prince continues the story of Amel and Raolcan. Following their disastrous journey with their group, Amel is struggling to care for Leng, who is worsening daily. Help for his infection and fever comes from an unexpected source, so they are able to continue on their way to the Ruby Islands, where the rest of the initiates are staying. Grandis Elfar assigns Amel to a new knot, which is made up of older initiates. However, secrets learned cause Amel to have to make a difficult choice.

I've never read a serial series before, but I've become hooked on Dragon School! This book is almost non-stop action! I'm still so inspired by Amel, who never asks for assistance and never complains, even though she has enough reason to. I want my own dragon, purple, of course, so I can fly with Amel and Raolcan!

Seriously, though, these books are a terrific read, and it's interesting to see Amel developing as a character. Even though many of the characters are less developed, they are becoming more developed as Amel becomes more familiar with them. Except for Leng, that is, who becomes more serious and more confusing as the story goes on. The storyline is also well thought out and developed. It just seems to flow nicely, and the twists and turns will keep you reading!
I requested a copy of the book in order to write an honest review. The author has in no way influenced this review.

The entire week I was already looking forward to today, to the release of this e-book. I really wanted to know how the story of Amel and Raolcan continued and I was not disappointed the slightest bit.

I like how we see Amel grow over those books, how she's starting to realize that she can make a difference, that she's someone, that she can do something. I like how she went from "How am I gonna make this work?" to "I'm gonna make this work". It's amazing to notice how she is starting to tell others that she's not fragile or broken, that she functions just fine and it was nice to meet characters in this book, apart from Raolcan, who agree with her.

What I love is that this story is in so many ways like other fantasy stories. It has all those exciting elements. It has magic, dragons. It has epic fights, political schemes. It has a great finale and show down in every book. But still there is one thing that makes this book so different: We have a girl with a crutch, facing all those problems I face on a daily base. And with every book she becomes more and more the hero Raolcan already saw in her in the very first chapter in the very first book.

I can't wait to see how the story continues!

Amel's character was amazing! Not being crazy about drama, yet she seemed to find it no matter where she went, or it seemed to find her. She was just trying to be honest with all of them, but no one would listen to her. No matter what she said, It was like she had nothing to say.
As our story opens, she half way slowly stared up with one eye into the morning light, and found herself lying against Raolcan. Leng seemed to be passed out or just sick. She didn't know which. But you could tell she seemed concerned.
Once they got started on their way, they found themselves nearing Ruby Isles. Suddenly they were being followed. But by whom and why? they could not tell.
In this suspense-filled story, the reader is pulled through twists and turns. What kind of secrets will be revealed?
Once Amel comes across this Dark Prince, she doesn't really know if he is being charming or not. Does he have something up his sleeve? Why is he called the Dark Prince? What could he be hiding? And, will Amel find out what this something is? If so, will she be able to do something about it? A very intriguing read!

I received an advance copy in exchange for an honest review.

Once again, Sarah K. L. Wilson has followed up the previous instalments in the series with another that matches the calibre of the first two. It was engaging and entertaining and easy to read, writing style wise. That being said however, it was not better. The calibre of the first two was matched but it wasn't exceeded. The episodic structure of this particular series makes all of the events in the book feel rushed and leaves little time for character development. I found that a majority of the characters (the only exceptions being Amel, Raolcan, and Leng) have started to feel two-dimensional and all the same, to the point where they become forgettable. As a result, I found that, while I was engaged through reading, at the climax of this volume I had very little concern regarding the events, which was disappointing. On the whole, however, the series is still good and I am mildly interested to see what happens next.

First off I hate how Leng talks down to Amel and called her “initiate”. She is a person with a name!!!! But I also hope he stops being so distant and addresses his feelings for her if they are romantic or what because it’s getting annoying how distant and rude he is after all Amel has done for him.
I hate Prince Rakturan, he is extremely arrogant and just a plain asshole in my opinion.
I screamed when Estevens head was chopped in half! That was a bit crazy!!
Corrigan and Starie will get what is coming to them or I will transport myself into this fictional world and fight them myself.
Amel and Raolcans relationship seems to grow stronger the more the story progresses and it makes me so happy :)
Last thing... I hated Savette for so long and now that I actually like the character I have to say, she BETTER BE OKAY OR I WILL BE REALLY UPSET!!
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

So after the ending of the last book we jump straight back into the adventure and how exciting it is. We get to learn a bit more about Leng in this part but I do feel for Amel in this book as she's very much sidelined, well other characters try to push her to the side. However what I'm loving about these books is that Amel is a strong character who knows how to stand for what she believes is right. I really like Amel and how she works through her fears, I think that the author has built a likeable and relatable character in her. I'm very much looking forward to reading the next book in this series as at the ending of this one there is a very important adventure that I think Amel needs to go on.

Book 3 of Dragon School carries on as action loaded short episode. Amel meets the Prince of Baojang and I share her suspicion about him although his actions are quite obscure. The plot with the Magika and Starrie thickens and Amel gets involved more and more as Savette is asking for her help.
If only Leng wouldn't be set to protect Amel by totally shutting her out which is very annoying for Amel (and me). But I have hope that Leng realises how capable she is of taking care of herself and helping others. Still, the real star here is Dragon Raolcan, he is simply adorable.
I am pleased the author announced that a new episode will be out every 18 days. Not sure if I would read it for the price of £2.23 each but it's in KU.

wow! I didn't think this story could continue to improve but it has. This story picks up where book 2 left off without a hitch. I would recommend reading the books in order so that you could fall in love with the characters and understand the nuances and intricacies involved. The heroine is still working to save her fellow Dragon rider. The dragon and rider bond between her and her dragon continues to surprise her and strengthen which lends itself to her being willing to think outside of the box. I love this series and truly recommend it to readers who enjoy dragon series and also readers who enjoy a good heroine story where the prize doesn't always go to the one who has the easiest route to get there.

"The Dark Prince" is the third book in the Dragon School series and it starts of right where book 2 ended. Lend is still not feeling well and Amel isn't sure if she can do anything to help him getting better. When she, Leng and their two dragons land on an island, they meet a some men. One of them is the prince of Boajang and Amel does not like him. When the two dragon riders finally make it to the safety to their knot, Amel knows she have to warn her friend Savette, who is going to get wed to the prince. Then all dragon riders attend the ball, to honor the prince and everything gets so much worse. I love this series and can't wait to read the next book. I chose to read this book and all opinions in this review are my own and completely unbiased. Thanks to Six Queens!

This is the third book in the series and is just as enjoyable as the first two are.I love the way the characters are portrayed. They are still very believable. I am a bit confused about the dragon Ahlskibi. I really thought this dragon was a she, but now seems to be a boy.Oh well. Not a serious problem. Just one that made me stop and scratch my head. Amel is still as lovable a character as she was in the beginning. And she is loyal to those few that can see past her deformity and recognize her worth. The action continued to keep my attention. I cannot wait for the next episode.

“In retrospect, I probably should have flamed him.” - Raolcan
I love when dragons have attitude and Raolcan continues to be my favorite character. This tale begins with an unconscious Leng and a desperate Amel. The stakes could hardly be higher as this story starts to reveal new places, people, and plot points. The Prince of Baojang is another character with a mysterious back story artfully woven into the tale. I am unbelievably thankful Wilson is a prolific writer because I am anxious to read the rest of the stories in this series! It is like binge-watching a new fantastic TV series!

Eeee I'm falling in love with Raolcan more and more with every book! What could be better than having a talking purple dragon as your best friend! With Leng finally recovered after a little help from the mysterious Prince Rakturan they set off at full speed to the Ruby Isles. After arriving Amel is demanded to keep their journey a complete secret including her encounter with the Prince. Alot of strange things are unfolding in the Ruby Isle. I can't wait to see what happens next. O and i think we might finally get a little romance with Amel and Leng! Fingers crossed 😂😀😍
