The highly anticipated True Porn, an anthology of real life sex stories told by real live cartoonists features the auto-biographical sex stories of Ivan Brunetti, Laurenn McCubbin, Jeffrey Brown, Ariel Schrag and 40 more of today's talents. True Porn is frank, honest and always entertaining. From the excitement of the first time to the despair of the last time, True Porn portrays the highs and lows of our most basic urge. Cover art by James Kochalka (Fancy Froglin's Sexy Forest) and James Sturm (Golem's Mighty Swing).
Known for his dark humor and simple, yet effective drawing style. Brunetti's best known work is his autobiographical comic series Schizo. Four issues have appeared between 1994 and 2006. Schizo #4 won the Ignatz Award for Outstanding Comic of the Year in 2006.
He has also done numerous covers of The New Yorker.
I found this book to be an interesting insight into the world of straight relationship sex. It mostly had to do with couples arguing and not understanding each other than it did with hot sex. There are a few good comics in the book though. Overall, it was mostly depressing for me. The title to me suggested something different.
A compilation of comic book artists writing about sex. As you might guess, its pretty hit or miss. Some of the stories are pretty good(although its been so long since reading that I have no idea which those good ones are). Either way, its a comic book, and its smut, and its autobiographical. A fine way to waste a couple of hours.
A bunch of comic book artists and graphic novelists tell autobiographical sex stories. Depending on the person, they are funny, sad, weird, tragic, silly, erotic, gross or touching. Gay, straight and bi — all sex-positive. Loved it. Looking forward to Volume 2.
True Porn is a comics anthology curated by Ivan Brunetti, featuring the works from 40 cartoonists mostly working in the alternative comics space. The stories are mostly autobiographical tales revolving around sex experiences, and so True Porn serves as a voyeuristic lens into the lives of these cartoonists. The stories here vary in terms of how engaging they are, though a couple do shine as genuinely charming, funny or absurd. It's not nearly as smut heavy as one might expect, rather most cartoonists here have a rather restrained approach. For me, Bobby Tran Dale's "Had It, Done It, Been There, Did That!" was the clear highlight, where the story was completely off the wall hedonism drawn with excruciating detail.
Got this from a book swap... Thanks @jonathanbardelline...
Hit and miss and mostly miss. The art is all black and white. Some of the stories have cool imagery, but nothing groundbreaking.
The plots of the stories follow the same trajectory: some are interesting. Most are just snippets of a sexual encounter. Some tiptoe into gruesome territory: misogyny, human trafficking... Ultimately, I didn't find most of it interesting, and none of it was sexy.
I loved this book. I loved reading about all the amazing sex stories. I would recommend this to any porn addicts out there like me. My recommended age for this book is 5+ because it is good for young children to get to know sex from an early age. If they do, they will have much more enjoyable sex.
