Reread June 2017

I enjoyed this a lot more this time so I'm bumping up my rating to 4 stars. Maisie didn't get on my nerves near as bad and I liked her more.

Of course, Hatch was just absolutely perfect in my eyes. I mean..long hair, beard and tattoos. What's not to love? He was amazing and did right by Maisie and Poppy in every way IMO.

Read Originally September 2016

Maisie and her daughter Poppy have been on their own for 9 years after Maisie's husband passed away. She's the CEO of her own company she started with her husband. She also comes from a wealthy family in London.

Hatch is a mechanic and "peace maker" for the Dogs of Fire MC. At 20, after his mom passed away and his dad was jailed, he found himself raising his younger siblings.

Their lives randomly intertwine and after an accident, are finally pushed together.

Honestly, I don't even know how to rate this book. There were things I loved and then there were things I hated. I'm very conflicted.

I absolutely ADORED Hatch. He was an awesome hero and did everything right in my book. He was there every step of the way for Maisie and Poppy. I loved how he was obsessed with Maisie and couldn't get her out of his head.

I really struggled with Maisie. Her husband has been gone 9 years and she was very much in love with him. He was completely opposite of Hutch. But they had been together since they were 5 so it did feel more of a "comfortable" and "familiar" type of love. In the end I did feel she loved Hatch as much as (if not totally different from) or more than her husband. The thing that bugged me was she had a chair her husband sat in and she would refer to it as "Niall's chair" all the time. Then all of a sudden "poof"...it became just the big chair. I'm sure it was to show she'd moved on but I would have like to have seen her say it.

I also struggled with the bff storyline. I won't spoil anything but that was way out in left field and some of the circumstances were too much OTT in the realm of believability for me.

We do get a nice epilogue but there were just so many things rushed through that I wanted to see I am interested in the teaser at the end of the book about Maverick and Lily.

So overall, it was just okay but I'll go with 3 stars because of Hatch. He deserves 5 but the rest...meh

Unfortunately this author's writing style doesn't work well for me. I decided to give it another try based on a recommendation but I found the book to be just bland and boring, especially for a biker book. The hero is just too sugary sweet and perfect, it just didn't ring true for a biker hero to me. There was some small conflict with the person who messed with her car but even that felt anticlimactic.

Another issue is that the heroine gets hurt in a car accident and I swear we spend half the book with her constantly taking pain medication and the hero constantly reminding her to "take her Oxy". It just got old and I was rolling my eyes.

So yeah I will try to remember not to read this author again :)

Not sure how I have missed this author for this long, but I am so happy that I have eventually found her. I loved this book, I loved the characters and the flow of this story. From page one I was hooked and got right into this world that the author created. Even though this is book six I had no problem following along but I do admit that I wish I had read the others because the characters in this book who have their own books had me really interested in their stories.

While leaving from a hair appointment Maisie has car problems and those problems are what brings Hatch into her life. Maisie loved her husband he was always in her life but when he died her daughter became her life and she stopped living, never has a man tempted her in any way till now. Seeing Hatch makes Maisie think of things she assumed she never would but Maisie is also scared.

Hatch never would have guessed helping a woman out in her time of need would bring Maisie into his life and no matter what they do they keep running into each other, and more importantly even though Hatch has vowed to never go that route again Maisie makes him wonder if his decision is right. When it become apparent they can't seem to stay away form each other Hatch makes his move.

After one great night together Maisie's fear gets the better of her and she calls it all off but an accident brings Hatch right back into her and her daughters life. Making a new life together is fun and exciting but also very new for each of them and throw in a danger Maisie never could have imagined and yet in the mist of it all Maisie, Hatch and Maisie's daughter Poppy find happiness. But their path to their happy ending isn't smooth and a curveball is thrown their way that is devastating.

I loved this book it was so different in so many ways and all of those ways made this book really stand out and be a book for me to take notice. I loved Maisie and Hatch's relationship, he is crazy possessive and completely in love with not only Maisie but her daughter Poppy. He is just an all around great guy who has had his share of bumps and bruises. Maisie was sweet and strong and supportive(almost to a fault) The relationship that is built was amazing and it was refreshing to see them not jump right into bed together because it would have seemed very off for Maisie, and I loved that Hatch respected that.

The story line in this book blew me away I never would have guessed how this would all end, yes I had some guesses to some of it but I was really surprised with it. And also impressed with how this author pulled it off, I personally have never read a book with this twist and I think she handled it really well and this was yet another reason why this book stood out so great. To have a book with not only a great love story but so much more was amazing.

Not only did I love Hatch, Maisie and Poppy (who was incredible sweet) but the side characters were just as special, and I really, really hope Hatch's brothers and sister get a book. For those worried about Maisie being married before I never felt like it was three people in this relationship. I always felt like it was Maisie and Hatch. Also Maisie is all Hatch see's, and no one else is even in his radar after her. I never wanted to put this book down, I was so engrossed in this book from beginning to the very end. This is an author I will definitely be reading many more books from.

Maisie Mann finds herself stranded with a dead car and getting help from biker Connor 'Hatch' Wallace. Hatch is immediately attracted to Maisie, but he can tell she is all money and he has been there done that, certainly not wanting a repeat. However fate has other ideas and puts Maisie in Hatch's path making it difficult to ignore the chemistry around them.

Maisie is a widower and her daughter comes first. A little uncertain if she could do a relationship, she finds Hatch is willing to be patient. As Maisie begins building a life with Hatch and her daughter, a threat she never saw coming is intent on harming her and Hatch is determined to protect her.

This has several twists and turns I did not see coming. My favorite so far in the series. I loved Hatch, h has a whole grizzly side to him that I loved. Maisie is adorable, she is in some ways a sheltered woman and yet she has the ability to stand up to Hatch. Excellent can't put down book.

This book was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!
I loved Piper's books! I was hooked since Road to Desire, but I think that Connor "Hatch" was the best for me so far.

Hatch is the sergeant at arms of the Dogs of Fire MC. He has been through so much in his life. His parents weren't around so he had to raise his sister and brothers all by himself. And then he got
married and his wife was the worst person ever!
So he just stuck to Club women get them in bed and then moved on. Until he helped a women fix her car! So even though he wasn't looking for a relationship for some reason he just couldn't get Maisie out of his head

Maisie thought she was happy after her husband died. She had her own company a beautiful daughter and best friends that meant everything to her. Until she met Hatch and totally stepped out of her comfort zone.

This story will have you laughing, some sad moments, some totally WTH moments!!!

I loved everything about this book. Hatch was a total sweetheart and his brothers... Damn! Maisie was funny and sweet. And their chemistry just worked so well together.

Definitely a Favorite of mine

So on Release Day, get this book. And the good thing about it, is you don't have to read the previous books to read Hatch and Maisie

Another delicious Dogs of Fire installment and I have a new biker guy to adore. There's just something about a tough guy going all soft for a young girl and growly protective over her and her mom and I am in book love.

This is the sixth installment in a series about a group of riders who are more than club and brothers, but family. Each story in theory could be read standalone if the reader doesn't mind the obvious feeling that the group around the new couple have already had their stories and are an ongoing part of each new story.

In this book, Connor 'Hatch' Wallace is the knight on white horse when he helps a stranded woman, Maisie Mann, get her car started. He is immediately attracted, but shuts that down really quick knowing about the baggage that can come from relationships and 'nice' women particularly of the polished put together type like this one. His ex did a number on him and never again. His long term relationships will be for his younger siblings that he raised alone after his mom died and his dad went to prison and to his brothers in the Dogs of Fire MC. Only, he keeps encountering this sweet, soft-spoken woman and her daughter who are irresistible and get inside under his skin. A dangerous incident that puts Maisie in the hospital ends his resistance. He is all in. Now he needs to persuade Maise.

Maisie fell in love with her childhood sweetheart and was with him until he died. It has been ten years and she still feels lost without him. Her best friend pushes her to move on, but Maisie is content to live for Poppy and doesn't think there would ever be a second shot at the deep love she felt for her husband. But then big, rough biker, Hatch, is suddenly there and with each new encounter, she opens up to the idea of something special where she least expected it.

This could have been a rather good story of a biker and a business woman getting a second shot at love- and it was that, for sure. But with the addition of a best friend dealing with severe mental health issues, grief, and even modern class issues, this story dug deep into a bit of something more making it unputdownable for me. Up until now, I would have said that Ace and Cassidy's story was my favorite of the series, but- new fav has emerged with this sweet yet passionate romance between Connor and Maisie.

Connor has some alpha protector in him and is quite capable of doing violence for those he loves, but he also wants what he fears the most- he wants his own relationship and family though he is afraid of being burned again. Maisie is the Brit with the stiff upper lip and balks at engaging in another go at love. She has a need to do things for herself and bristles whenever Connor tries to protect her, but she is all in when she pushes him to share his thoughts and feelings instead of shutting down and backing away. I enjoyed that they acted like mature adults even while working through their issues. And the pair of them were on fire together once they came together.

All in all, this was an absorbing read that I can highly recommend for the lovers of biker romance who want spice without going too dark.

My thanks to the author for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

4 Sunshine-y Stars!!

This is the six book in the series but my first time reading this author. I am a fan of MC books so I was interested in getting her twist. This is the story of Hatch and Maisie.

All the elements of a gooey romance came together for me in this book. Hot alpha man. Willing to protect what’s his—his younger siblings, his brothers in the MC and his lady. Adorable single mom who is strong and self-sufficient. Does not realize she needs a man in her life until she absolutely does. Wonderful child, Poppy, thrown in the mix. And as kids often do, gets the adults all twisted up around themselves. All of those things mixed up together makes for a delicious read for me.

I liked that although neither Hatch or Maisie felt they were worthy of love again, they found solace in each other. Despite what society may think about their pairing, they went with their hearts and became a stronger couple because of it.

I loved the secondary characters in this book--All the siblings, the MC brothers, Maisie’s best friend. This was fine to read as a stand-alone book. I am sure those who have read the series enjoyed this one even more. Great to meet a new author and I will be reading more from her in the future.

Piper Davenport just reached deep into my heart and gave me every warm and fuzzy possible. Road to Peace was funny, charming, gritty and sexy, all wrapped up into one eloquently told story of love and hope. Maisie is one of my new favourite heroines, and everybody needs a Hatch!

I stumbled upon this author by chance and let me tell you... She wrote gold every time! This book if no different.

Hatch and Maise are beautiful. This unlikely pair are so sweet and fit so perfectly. Maise is a single mom who is strong and all around awesome. Hatch is pure alpha. He takes care of his club, his sister, and his woman and you can't help but love him.

The storyline it self was so unexpected. I loved the mystery to it and I enjoyed that it wasn't relationship drama and misunderstandings. There wasn't much push and pull between these two and it flows so well.

Seriously can't wait for me.

***4 ‘Serendipity was a strange thing’ Stars***

I’m always a bit hesitant about diving into an MC romance series because I’ve only found a few, well two to be exact, that I’ve truly gotten hooked on. It’s a bit disconcerting considering how extensive the sub genre is, but I keep at it hoping to capture lightning in a bottle once more. So when I was asked if I’d like to read Road to Peace, I had to step back and really think about it because it fell into a very strange trifecta for me:

1) It is an MC romance..
2) I try really hard to read series in order, even if they are marked as being standalones, and this is book #6 in the series.
3) Piper Davenport is a brand spanking new author for me.

But after hemming and hawing a bit I decided to give it a go because the blurb peaked my interest and I really liked the cover and in the end I really enjoyed Road to Peace. It was a fun, surprising (pleasantly so) read that brought out all the feels with great characters and a plot twist that I didn’t see coming at all.

I have a huge jones for the tall, dark, silent, just get it done, sexy alpha type and Hatch totally pushed all of those buttons for me. He’s the eldest of five kids and has looked after and raised them which tends to have him making decisions they may not all agree with when it comes to their well being. He’s pretty laid back but has no problem with stepping up when it’s called for. He’s level headed and though he cares about those who are his, he isn’t prone to wearing his heart on his sleeve. His lack of interest in getting into a committed relationship is understandable and there are times when he becomes grunty because he’s upset, but his huge heart totally makes up for it.

Maisie I liked, but it took a bit of time for her to grow on me because there was one point where I wanted to reach out, smack her upside the head and tell her to put her big girl panties on due to her “ghosting” thing, but she did redeem herself and there is no denying that she’s a damn strong woman. She’s runs her own company while raising her twelve year old daughter on her own. She’s easy going and tends to see the cup as half full than half empty, but that is a view that took her sometime to achieve as the loss of her husband shook the foundations of her world. But she picked herself up, with a little help from her friends and her daughter, and has been doing all she can to give her daughter a good life.

“Serendipity was a strange thing” This quote from the book is the best way to describe how Hatch and Maisie’s relationship starts. They just kept colliding with each other and considering how they couldn’t stop thinking about each other, it really was only a matter of time before something big happened to ensure that they didn’t just collide, but stuck together. That big something was hellish, as was the fallout from it, but it was so worth it. Without it, and Poppy (Maisie’s daughter who was awesome!) they wouldn’t have known just how perfect they were for each other. The road was bumpy, but it was also filled with sweet affection, funny moments and steamy interludes that just showed how perfect they were despite their differences.

Since this was my first foray into Piper Davenport’s books I didn’t know what to expect, so I’ll be honest and say that the use of 1st person POV and 3rd person POV threw me for a bit in the beginning because it’s been awhile since I read anything that used both perspectives, but it didn’t take long to get used to it. After that though I found the writing style to be engaging and the pace a good one. That big ‘ole plot twist in the story surprised the hell out of me, in fact my first thought was “Well shit just got twisted”, and had me going through all the feels as the pieces came together and that conclusion? Yeah, FEELS. I’m a huge fan of well written supporting characters and this one had them in spades. Poppy is my hands down favorite, but I also loved Hatch’s family (especially Cricket) and will be working at fitting in the previous books into my TBR list to find out about the other couples, especially Kim and Knight. And though this is the 6th book, it can be read as a standalone.

Also, have to say that I really liked that the Dogs of Fire weren’t a one percenter type of MC. It is said that they walked the line for awhile, but didn’t cross that line. As much as I love my dark, gritty and dirty MC romances, I liked that this one was a little lighter in tone while still having that feel of brotherhood where they have each others backs, no matter what.

I downloaded this book for free via google play books due to forgetting a physical book for work.

I'll be honest, it's aboustely not for me. The writing seems more fanfic like rather than professional author. The characters seem to come off after teenagers who desires for lust rather than adults with lives, who just happen to fall in love.

Adding a cut brakes and hospital scene felt like the author didn't know how to carry on the story and that the daughter is so keen for a strange man to enter their lives to "save mummy" just feels a bit ick.

36% in and I know i should just DNF, tbf this book has been something I've been attempting to read since early April 2025. I haven't given up cause I refuse to DNF and plus sometimes your girl cant always bring a physical book with her and it's a hassle to download a new book.

I highly doubt the author knew where they were going with this story. At first you'd think it's a motorbike romance, a single mother hooks up with the cute mechanic motorbike boss, nah..it gets twisted in her best friend attempting to kill her..while the motorbike lover starts acting possessive and acts as if his supposed to her partner without a justifiable reason.

I already said it reads as a fanfic, and it does. There's way too much going on that it seems as if it didn't need the 300 pages and whatever is inside it.

Oxy and vicodin in this story seems more like a hard drug rather than genuine painkillers, not sure what world your living in but I even doubt that either of those would be prescribed like lollys from doctors.

What is the FBI doing investigating a murder attempt? Look, I dunno how FBI works but this is definitely below their pay grade.

Writing the antagonist with bi-polar is a bit icky. Look, I get it. I've had an experience with a bi-polar person and yes they can become murderous; that 💩s scary, but this just makes it seem like the author just wanted to straight up villianise a legitimate medical issue without doing proper research.

Oh God. The sex scene is written as if a shy kid whose ashamed of being caught writing about sex. What grown author mentions "he touched my private parts"? Than making the scene full of dialogue and mentioning your daughter. Yeah nah, not the time to have that type of convo.

"Your so tight." , "it's been a while." That is not a response to give when a guy calls you tight, also..I'm not doctor but I'm pretty sure a dry spell doesn't make you too tight for a penis.

"He tortured my p*ssy", really..now you use that language, but are you sure torture is the right word to use especially since the scene is as vanilla as vanilla ice cream.

It only took almost two months but finally finished this goddamn book, christ..I know i take a risk when I download books from google play books but damn..it's bad.

Rolling my eyes sky high

How do I describe the many reasons why this book is absolute rubbish or trash?
Let me summarize it for you shall I?!!
Maisie and Hatch, fall in love with a month of knowing each other. Her best friend tries to kill her why cause she’s bipolar. Ok so where are you going with this?? Then there’s b**ch this, f**k that or shut the f**k up babe. Like every other sentence. Let me invite you to my native home even though we known each all of five months to meet my parents and let me let you drive my daughter around even though we just started dating. There’s mention of Sons of Anarchy and how his club bribes law enforcement but it’s okay that he is still around your daughter. Like four different stories thrown in one. I could go on with the many times the author wrote love , darling, and other British slang but the point was it was never consistent. I did not like Maisie nor did I like Hatch. Did no one proofread this book and think wow this is bad ? Where’s the editor in this all? I don’t want to bash a author’s hard work but at some point an author has to look at his or her work and say will this work ? Thankfully it was free.

DNF - This may be the end of my journey with this series. I enjoyed the first few books. They didn't blow me away, but were easy, cute reads. These recent books, however, have been dragging. The characters lack depth and fall in love at warp speed, making it hard to get invested. I also need a lot more action for an MC romance.

In this book, the heroine, Maisie, is a Brit - but with all the stereotypes of being a Brit: speaking overly formally, posh, calling her daughter “poppet” ... Was this Mary Poppins or a modern day woman?? I found it hard to take her and her story seriously.

Love love love - no I don't. But if I hear the heroine call some love again I think I will scream. Not every person from England calls everyone love nor do they do it constantly.
MC lite - no MC action but it is mentioned a few times that the hero is in a MC and they have church on Wednesday nights.
Not worth $4.99

I have had some back luck with MC books lately, so I was a little hesitant to read this. But it's about a single mom and an alpha male, so I decided to give it a try, and I'm so glad I did!

Hatch is a tough guy, but he has a heart of gold. He instantly takes to Maisie and her daughter, Poppy. He's instantly protective. Maisie, on her own, is super tough (with her cute little British accent and spunk), but allows herself to be protected by Hatch. She felt it was too soon for her daughter to meet a new guy - this was really believable to me. As a mom myself, I think it's something I would struggle with. But she saw what a good guy Hatch was, and decided to let him in.

The other thing I liked - the MC wasn't a super violent one. It wasn't like reading Sons of Anarchy. It was a believable MC without all the violence and other things you typically read in an MC. There was some mystery involved as well - which threw me for a loop (in a good way).

This book was really good and I would recommend it. I even want to go back and read some of the others after reading this one - it was that good.

Road to Peace
Piper Davenport
4 stars

I have noticed that this is a series which can be read as a standalone which I did. I have not read any of the other books but I would love to and plan and clicking them up putting them on my TBR list. I received Road to Peace as an ARC.

Hatch is the SGT at Arms of the Dogs of Fire MC. The man has been wounded by a crappy marriage and didn’t deserve that due to the life he had already lived. Raising his brothers and sister, Hatch wanted a family that meant something .. instead he got a bitch. Getting what he needed in the sack and then shooing them away he never thought another woman would catch his eye. But then Maisie came into his life by chance. Her car breaking down was the best thing that have ever happened to him.

Maisie took a chance walking over to the small garage in a not so great part of town. Unknowing to her she walked right into her knight in shining armor as she would later find out. After numerous events that will leave you hitting the floor, Hatch swears on his life he will keep Poppy and Maisie safe. Even after the woman blew him off he vows to protect her and her daughter.

I really liked the story and was darn certain crazy things were going to happen. The characters were well written. There is a nice little diddy at the end as well leading into Maverick and Lily’s story. That should be a good one.

Thank you for the ARC! Review to post to Ramblings From Beneath The Sheets.

I received an ARC for an honest review.

Maisie is a single, widowed mom who never planned on moving on after her husband died. But when a chance meeting happens with a gorgeous biker she can't help but feel maybe it's time to move on since it's been two years.

Hatch isn't looking for anything serious so when he sees Maisie he knows she a serious woman especially since she is a mom. He just cant help the pull she has on him, and when he receives a phone call, it changes everything he thought he ever knew.

Their story was definitely one we only dream of. Badass, sexy biker who is sweet and cares for her and her daughter? Protects them and gave no thought about it. I absolutely loved Hatch. I think I found my new book boyfriend. And Maisie was so understanding and perfect for him. She didn't back down when he was being unreasonable and she acquiesced to his concerns by trusting him. They were good for each other and treated each other with respect. And then there was the drama. I wasn't expecting what the author used as her drama infused plot. It's different, unexpected and something that many don't talk about. There are relationships that will be tested and when you finally get to the conclusion, you will be shocked, saddened and hopeful. I loved this story and I can't wait to read the rest of the bikers romances.

Wanted to like this because I came across Hatch in the only other book I've read by this author, called 'Saving The Preachers Daughter'. I only gave that book 3 stars because it was bordering on boring and the writing was bland, so 3 stars was probably generous. Especially since that book was way too expensive at the £3.99 price tag I paid for it. So I had no intention of reading any more by this author but this book showed up on my feed and it was free to read on kindle unlimited, so I decided to give it a go since I liked the glimpse of Hatch in the previous book. But boy oh boy was this painfully boring! Like mind numbingly boring!!!

The heroine is really annoying, she calls everyone 'love', on every page! She even calls complete strangers love! Too much and not good! I struggled to like her, after everything Hatch does for her, a complete stranger to him, she keeps snapping at him and all her crying and clinging to him was annoying. I didn't get why Hatch liked her at all. I was beyond bored reading this and blandness of the writing meant I literally had to force myself to keep reading from 40% to 60% and that's where I finally had to gave up. I just couldn't read any more of this. 1 star! I won't be reading any thing else by this author, not even her free books. Just not good!

Very beige.
The constant “loves” every 10 seconds was beyond annoying.
Unoriginal, very silly names, next to no mc story and indeed next to no story at all.
This was a woman who had remained loyal to her husband who had died through illness several years earlier, despite this self imposed celibacy, leaps into bed without a second thought for her only other partner.
I’m annoyed I’ve wasted so much time on this.

I really didn't like Maisie. I found her extremely annoying and it felt like there wasn't a chapter that went by without her crying. One great quality about her is she is a good person with a big heart, I just wish she didn't cry all the dang time! The writing is ok, and the story is pretty good, I just really didn't like Maisie's constany crying and eventual needyness for Hatch.

3.5 Stars. This wasn't my favorite of the series, but still an good read. I never saw a true connection between the main characters. The plot for me had too many "bumps in the road" that were hard to believe so it lost me a few times throughout the book.

Ohmigod, Hatch was sooooooo great, I really loved him. He was so sweet and caring with the h and her daughter 😍

Safety: no drama or scenes with om/ow at all, no separation, the h finds an even greater love in Hatch than in her dead husband, so Hatch isn’t second best

Triggers: there is a suicide

Road to Peace

This book deals with some really serious stuff. Would have made a good platform for mental illness awareness. Totally enjoyed Hatch and Maisie's story.
