This is an entertaining, well-written, steamy, contemporary romance novel. It has a strong female protagonist, a hot ex-con hero, intrigue, a crime syndicate, family and relationship drama, and a happily ever after ending. This is the first entry in Ms. Daulton's outstanding Arresting Onyx series. I am looking forward to reading Jim's story with great anticipation.
I received a free copy of this novel via Booksprout, and this is my honest review.

Wow, what an amazing story this one was.

Mia and Mason’s story takes you on a rollercoaster ride of mixed emotions. One minute you’re happy the next sad and it all just hits the perfect amount of feels.

We learn about Mason’s past with gang’s and how much it’s deeply affected his life and himself. He’s strong, hard and keeps himself to himself and finds it hard to trust men or women after a few broken hearts and back stabbing but, when mason almost gets run over by the lovely Mia he has no idea his life is about to change.

Mia is a strong passionate woman and stands up for herself. After becoming and orphan along with her brother and being challenged on she’s become independent and doesn’t trust easily until Mason blasts in to her life unexpectedly.

From the moment they meet their life is a whirlwind. They’re faced with many dangers and situations where you can’t see a possible good outcome and it leaves you biting your nails.

All in all this book was an enjoyable read for me. The only reason for my 4.5 stars is their up and down relationship annoyed the hell out of me at times. I’m not quite keen on a relationship like that lol.

This is my first read by this author and I’m quite happy to have started it. It’s been an honour reading and reviewing this beauty.

I loved Arresting Mason, the steamy first book in Amber Daulton’s Arresting Onyx series. The characters are well-developed and interesting, the romance is amazing, and the story is well-paced and intriguing. The story follows Mason and Mia as they begin a relationship riddled with obstacles.

Mason has a troubled past and is trying to start over after ten years in prison. Daulton did a fabulous job of presenting a redeemed man, not without faults, who struggles with his past and his present. The book really made me think about how difficult it is for parolees to start over. Time in prison has changed Mason, and he often struggles to fit in with his family and others. Guilt, feelings of unworthiness, anger, and frustration often consume him. However, Mason is very self-aware and works hard to keep his demons at bay. Mia, and to a lesser degree his brother and nephew, help him focus on his good qualities and assure him that his past doesn’t have to define him. However, his past often feels inescapable, and his fears of endangering those he loves are valid.

Mia is another well-developed character that I love. Mia has regrets too and struggles with her own demons. However, she usually sees the good in people, and from the start of the book, she has such faith in Mason. Sharp and astute, she sees how much Mason has changed, and she appreciates his honesty and determination to reform. She also sees how tormented he is by the past and how hard he works to better himself. It’s clear that Mason and Mia understand each other well and accept each other completely.

And their romance!!! Oh my!! Mia and Mason’s romance is super steamy and sexy. Theirs is a passionate and almost instantaneous love affair that proves opposites do attract. Mia is sweet and a bit innocent to the uglier side of life, while Mason is an ex-con who served time for some serious crimes. But their differences don’t change the way they feel about each other. Sometimes Mason doesn’t know how to react to certain situations, and he tends to push people away in self-protection, but I think this further exemplifies how much being in jail changed him and influenced how he interacts with people.

Mia and Mason’s romance becomes complicated since Mia’s brother Jim is Mason’s parole officer, and Jim doesn’t approve of their budding romance. Jim does everything within his power to keep these two apart, but their feelings for each other only intensify. In addition to Jim’s meddling, Mason’s past comes back to haunt him, which puts his future with Mia in jeopardy. Mia and Mason go through a lot, and it’s fascinating to see how they fight for their love.

Gangs, kidnappings, people from Mason’s past, and other life-threatening dangers put Mia and Mason in some precarious situations and add a ton of suspense to the story. Mason learns that it is very difficult to escape his past, and many of his deepest fears come true.

This is a great story for people who like steamy contemporary romance with a bad-boy hero and page-turning intrigue. I’m so thankful to Amber Daulton for a copy of the book in exchange for my honest review, and I can’t wait to read the next book in the series! It focuses on Mia’s brother Jim, and I’m curious to learn more about his story. He wasn’t the most likeable character for most of this one, though I understood his reservations and reasoning behind not wanting his sister with Mason. I definitely liked his character by the end of the book and can’t wait to see him find his own happily-ever-after.

Ex-con Mason Harding just wants to go straight, and meeting Mia Edison, the woman of his dreams, makes him try harder. Caught between the stringent rules of his parole and the dark underworld of prison gangs who won’t release him, Mason fights for redemption. Daulton’s writing is visceral and erotic—realism at its best. Her female protagonist brings a refreshing common sense attitude to scenes of danger and violence. I was trapped in the conflict between right and wrong as tightly as Mason, feeling his same desperation to break free. This is the first book in Daulton’s Arresting Onyx Series and indicates more gut grabbing reads ahead.

FROM PRISON GANG TO PROTECTOR

What a beginning to a new series. The story is an emotional roller coaster ride of the good, the bad, and the ugly. There is a great cast of characters, plenty of secrets, angst, anger, and new beginnings. No good deed goes unpunished, but maybe there is a level of redemption.

Mason Harding was a normal kid, but when his parent's marriage failed, and they divorced when he was fifteen, he became bitter and allowed his life to cross over to a darker side, running with a bad crowd, drinking and eventually to crime. Along with friends, a liquor store hold up goes bad, guns go off, one lays dead, he is shot, and so is the owner, but rather than leave like the others, he stays and works to help save the man. Now ten years behind bars, he is out on parole with strict restrictions.

Mia Eddison runs a classy boutique in downtown Denver. It was something she and her mother did together. After the death of her parents, the business became hers. Nearly running over a man will set this tale into motion and bring two opposites together.

The plot will have Mia and Mason meeting by accident when she nearly hits him with her car. She will give him her card, and he will contact her to ask her out on a date. When she agrees to go out with him, it will escalate to a night of passion back at her loft apartment, but what happens the next morning when her brother shows up unannounced to see one of his parolees with his sister? Mia will defend Mason, and Jim will be furious with both of them.

“People do things when they know they shouldn’t, but that doesn’t make them bad people, especially if they feel guilty about it and turn their lives around. You’ve paid for your mistakes.”

The story includes Mason doing his best to stick to the orders of his parole, avoiding those from his past, not drinking alcohol, and attending councilling sessions. His parole officer, Jim Borden, will try his best to keep Mia and Mason apart, imposing strict curfews, and even blocking him at her place, and her at his place.

Secrets of his life before and during prison will eventually become a factor when the past collides with the present, and some people are determined to force him back into the life of the gang, crime, drugs, and extortion. When he refuses to buckle under, that places Mia in danger and her life and livelihood are now threatened. But when they actually kidnap her, how far will Mason go to protect her, and even her brother?

The story takes on danger and suspense that keeps the pages turning and you on the edge of your seat as it becomes a matter of life and death. Not everyone will make it out alive, and now they have become a possible pawn to more dangerous people.

The chemistry between Mason and Mia is electric and sizzles off the pages when they get together. The passionate scenes between them are erotic and explicit. This is the first story in this serious and I look forward to reading more.

First, I want to thank Amber Daulton for providing me with this book so I could bring you this review.

WOW!! Arresting Mason by Amber Daulton part 1 of the Arresting Onyx Series really started off the book with a bang! Right from sentence one she caught my attention by the way Mia was reacting to the traumatic scene between she and Mason. I commend Amber for that incredible hook into the story!! She had me smiling almost laughing at the way Mia was reacting but it was so cute. Understandable once you found out why.

Warning this book may trigger some of your readers. This book talks of rape between two men but also a male and female. If this bothers you may not want to read it.

Amber wrote an incredible story with two very strong characters in Mia and Mason in this book. Both had Unique pasts that they were trying to overcome. However, as a team they both complimented eachother. Mia didn’t judge Mason for his past yet she looked past it and saw the man that he truly was. She had a beautiful heart and very understanding unlike other characters in this book. I loved these two together!!

The chemistry these two had were off the charts! Amber sure knows how to write her sex scenes!!

This book has so many twists and turns that not even I saw coming! Amber kept her readers on her toes!! I love that in an author!

This book is dedicated to Greg Amber’s husband. He has read so many of the drafts of this story that he knows the characters as much as she does.

He's everything she should run far and away from but . . . she saw him. Through all of the exterior stuff she saw him and one night wasn't enough. With is past and the connections that go with it he is a hazard to anyone he is close to but . . . she was different. Something about her touched him in ways no one ever had. This author gives us their story and what's starts as steamy but turns into more. The desire to do right when all you know is wrong isn't always enough. We get to see not only his battle to change but also the cost of being close to him in the midst of it all. The ties that bind may be stronger than they imagined.

A great story that will touch your heart and quicken it's pace through the thrills and intrigue. Yup it's a standalone with some pretty interesting characters I am sure will turn up in upcoming books and I plan on being around to enjoy them.

When good girl Mia hooks up with bad boy Mason their worlds intertwine. When ghosts from Mason's past threaten their newfound love, he'd do anything to protect Mia. She would do anything to stay with Mason, but as the gang closes in, it becomes a matter of life or death.
I loved this story - Mason is hot, rough around the edges and determined not to fall back into the gang. Mia is ready to take on anything and anybody, and it was great to read such a gutsy heroine who knows what she wants and fights for it.

What a great read, my first book by this Author and I thoroughly enjoy it. Well written and leaving me wanting to know more, I just had to keep reading on! I absolutely loved Mia and Mason from the start.

The story unfolds as Mia almost runs Mason over on his way to see his parole officer. The moment they meet you can just feel the sexual tension between them.
Quiet divorcee Mia has no idea what lies ahead as she starts her relationship with Mason. After leaving prison for a crime he committed ten years earlier, Mason is determined to keep within the conditions of his parole, but his past eventually catches up with them!

Arresting Mason is my first Amber Daulton book. The premise of the story is an interesting concept and kept my attention from the beginning. I’m a fan of second chances and changing former mistakes. A story about a bad boy who wants to change and be a better man makes me hopeful.

Mason Harding is a tough kid who soon finds out you need to be more than tough to survive ten years in prison. He must make alliances in prison that he wouldn’t consider on the outside. The alliances make friends and foes. Mason is released early and put on probation. His parole officer isn’t a fan and makes life difficult whenever he can. On the way to one of his check-ins per his parole, Mia Eddison, runs into him, literally. He isn’t hurt, but Mia catches his eye. She is visibly upset. Mason sees the fear in Mia’s eyes, and he asks her out to dinner which starts a relationship that neither expects.

There are some elements of this story that I really, really like and a couple times that I found the events a little unbelievable.

I love the main characters. Mia is a little Pollyannaish, but it’s not over-the-top. She tends to see the good in people even when those around her don’t. She is getting over a bad marriage which has her putting relationships on the backburner. Even so, she is willing to give Mason a chance even knowing that he served serious time in a high-security prison. This character is realistically presented as a small business owner with a big heart.

Her brother is her only living family member. He is very protective and angry that he didn’t protect her from the ex. He doesn’t like Mason either and doesn’t want Mia to make another mistake. He makes things difficult for the couple as only older brothers can. I’m not a fan in the beginning, but he does grow on me by the end.

Mason has a brother Alan. Alan is a single dad who provides Mason a place to live. His nephew, Danny is the cutest. Alan also introduces him to his friend, Benji who gives Mason a much-needed job. These two give him the opportunity to begin to rebuild a life on the outside. The relationship between the brothers is an interesting dynamic. There is love, for sure, but there is also some anger and veiled distrust because of Mason’s criminal activities.

The family dynamics of both main characters are well done and realistic. Alan gets angry if Mason messes up with his curfew. Not because he wants to micromanage, he wants his brother to move forward and be successful. Mia’s brother is the typical older brother who knows all. I like all these characters even when they make me angry.

What didn’t work well for me is the run-in with the criminal element. I like the suspense. I like the way Mason and Jim joined forces. I did have to do a major hand-wave and eye roll when Reiger makes his appearance near the end. I can buy into the fiction, but this seems so farfetched and unrealistic that I couldn’t envision it in my mind’s eye. I expected the author to go down another path in the Mason/Jim partnership. I also didn’t buy what seems to be self-defense not accepted as self-defense.

Regardless, of the negatives, most of the book is very good. I would like to see more from this couple, but I expect some things are held back for more development in the series. Arresting Mason is a good vacation or lazy day read. You won’t regret it.

Can an ex-con and a girl on the right side of the law be more than just lovers?

After doing time in prison, ex-gang member, Mason Harding, is released back into society after facing hard time for the sins of his past. Bad boy extreme, ladies. Ain’t getting dirtier than this man!

He doesn’t expect his first taste of freedom to lead him to the saucy, sexy, and sultry Mia Eddison. Their instant attraction leads to a night of passion where they are caught by Mia’s brother. Her brother, btw, is Mason’s parole officer. Other than the obvious inconvenience, Mia doesn’t want this to be the last of Mason Harding…even if her brother doesn’t approve.

Funny how this wild attraction is triggered by Mia almost hitting Mason with her car. LOL. She is literally instantaneously drawn to him and his sordid past. After their night of passion and learning of Mason’s history, Mia is determined more than ever to help Mason break away from his gang roots and tear away the walls that surround his heart. She knows there is good in him. Or does she?

“Heat bloomed under her skin. She was grateful she wore a low-cut blouse, slinky black slacks, and peek-a-boo heels for a confidence booster…”

Yeaaa girl! Well, I don’t really think she cares if Mason is good or bad because she’s ALL SORTS OF HOT AND BOTHERED!

But you know how this goes…Mia gets in the middle of things. And as Mason’s past begins to threaten his present, he must face the men he once considered brothers to save the woman that has since captured his heart. Will good conquer evil, or will love lead to the ultimate sacrifice for both of them?

Hot hot HOT! Mason Harding is my new smexy addiction. I haven’t been into gang books much this year, but Amber Daulton knows how to write it right. Arresting Mason was unputdownable. I enjoyed Mia’s character, but her transformation was just a little weak for me. But Mason? He turned a great book into an excellent book. This one will be read again by the end of the year, I’ll tell ya that.

Very impressed by this vivid-fast-paced read that begins with a bang and keeps the reader wanting more until the very end.

As soon as we meet Mia Eddison, the 28-year-old protagonist, one sympathizes with her. She is struggling to run her own business, a popular boutique, and is recently divorced from a man who cheated on her with her own employee.

The book begins with an exciting twist on a 'cute meet.’ Mia is distracted when driving, and almost runs down a handsome pedestrian, Mason. She jumps out of the car to help him, but Mason is the one who calms Mia since she’s so distraught. She gives him her business card so he can contact her if he discovers later, if he discovers he has injuries.

Mason does call Mia. They end up having an intimate conversation and being intimate with one another. Mia explains she’s upset about her menacing ex-husband, while Mason admits he’s on parole for five years after spending ten years in jail for attempted murder. He explains the entire store to Mia – after a rough childhood, he got involved with drugs, alcohol, and a bad crowd. When his friends suggested they rob a liquor store, he agreed. But the robbery went wrong, and even though he didn’t shoot anyone, he was arrested for being an accomplice. (the state of Colorado holds all accomplices accountable).

Mia believes in Mason’s innocence and wants to continue to see him. More twists and turns follow, and I can’t reveal them as they are “spoilers” but the bottom line is that both Mason and Mia are taken captive, and until the last page, one is rooting for Mason to save the day.

What I liked best about this story was the message of hope and “love conquers all.” It was easy to relate to both Mia and Mason as strong, sympathetic characters and to stay involved with the developing and escalating story. The only thing (for me) is that there were a few scenes of violence – but this is consistent and perhaps necessary for the romantic suspense genre.

Kudos to the author's highly developed story-telling skills. Great happily ever after ending.

"Arresting Mason" (#1 book in the Arresting Onyx series) is yet another captivating, red-hot romantic thriller from Amber Daulton. Fans of her work will know exactly what to expect, while new readers are in for a treat: intricate, intertwining relationships and sizzling love scenes that leap off the page.

The story introduces Mia Eddison, a beautiful yet lonely divorcee who runs a charming boutique. Her life takes an unexpected turn when she nearly runs over a man at a crosswalk. Concerned for his well-being, she finds herself irresistibly drawn to him. That man is Mason Harding, and their instant chemistry leads to a first date that culminates in heart-stopping passion.

Mason, however, comes with a complicated past. Recently released from a ten-year prison sentence, he’s a good man who lost his way as a teenager after his parents’ divorce. Caught in the wrong place at the wrong time, Mason was implicated in a robbery gone wrong—a crime that tragically resulted in a death.

Determined to rebuild his life after ten years in prison, Mason is focused on staying on the right side of the law, under the watchful eye of his tough parole officer, Jeremiah “Jim” Borden. But here’s the twist: Jim is Mia’s fiercely protective older brother. When he discovers that his parolee is dating his sister, tensions explode.

As Mason returns to his hometown, he faces the pull of his old criminal circle, threatening to drag him back into dangerous patterns. Adding to the complexity, Mason lives with his older brother, Alan, and Alan’s seven-year-old son, Danny, forming a touching family dynamic that enriches the narrative.

Amber Daulton masterfully weaves these threads together, creating a story that’s as gritty as it is heartfelt. Flashbacks to Mason’s time in prison are raw and realistic, adding depth to his character. The author’s ability to write convincingly from Mason’s masculine perspective is particularly impressive, a feat she credits to her husband, Greg, who served as a sounding board during the writing process. Meanwhile, Mia’s perspective is equally vivid, especially her yearning for the ruggedly handsome Mason.

All in all, "Arresting Mason" is a compelling, thoroughly enjoyable read. For fans of romantic thrillers, it’s an absolute must.

This book opens with Mason Harding on his way to meet his parole officer. He is then nearly struck by a car driven by a beautiful who is upset that she almost hit him. Mason though is able to calm her down and agree to meet for dinner later in the week. After his meeting with his parole officer he can’t wait the few days for dinner. Mia Eddison is excited to finally be going out again since her divorce, and Mason is one hot guy. She cannot get over how she is attracted to him, this has never happened to her before and she is just hopping all goes well at dinner. After dinner things begin to heat up and when they take it to her place Mason stops everything and starts to tell her that he is a parolee, what he did, how long he was in for and any other questions she has. Mia is grateful but then wants to get back to the business at hand. After a very, very good night she figures on making breakfast when her pain of a brother shows up wanting breakfast as well. Working at trying to get him out of her place everything takes a turn when he sees his parolee Mason standing there. You got the makings of a very good story, but this book only gets better from there. You have her confront Mason at his place of work which is a great scene, and then you have his old gang getting back at him with taking her. So as you can see there is a lot going on in this book but author makes it all work. The ending will have you on your seat and you are in for a very good read with this book. i got this book from Netgalley.com I gave it 5 stars. Follow us at www.1rad-readerreviews.com

My favorite books to read are books with romance, heart, action, and scenes that grip me. This book checked all those boxes. The book grips us right away with Mia almost hitting Mason with her car! And from there so much happens. There was never a dull moment in this book. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. Mason has a past and he is trying to turn his life around. After their chance encounter they realize they like each other. They are happy getting to know each other until her brother Jim finds out. Mason is his parolee. The last thing he wants is his sister with this ex inmate. As if dealing with a brother who doesn't like your new boyfriend isn't enough to deal with, Mia's life is in serious danger. That's all I am going to say. I refuse to ruin the story. Like I said, so much happens. But it's enough to keep you hooked all the way through. Suspense and danger fans will love it. And don't worry romance fans, there is plenty of steamy romance to fulfill your swooning needs. Mason and Mia are everything! This is an excellent start to a series. I can't start book two fast enough!

After former bad boy Mason Harding is released from prison, he is determined to make something of himself--and get away from the gangs and violence, the only life he's known. Standing in his way is his parole officer who brings new meaning to 'giving a man grief' every time Mason turns around.
Then Mason is almost run down by a distracted driver--and nearly loses more than his life. He loses his heart to Mia Eddison. One problem: the gorgeous, sensuous woman who makes him feel things he's never experienced is also his PO's sister.
So . . . between the sex, interesting girl who lights Mason't fire in more ways than one; a parole officer who sparks his potentially deadly temper, often and in more ways than the usual; and former gang members who will go to any lengths to get him back into the life, Mason's in a mess that makes 10 years behind bars look like a pre-school field trip.
Read Arresting Mason and find out how he and Mia work together to make new lives for themselves. You won't be sorry. I wasn't.

"Arresting Mason" is a steamy romance at its core, but doesn't lack in suspense and storytelling. Author Amber Daulton does a great job of setting up the forbidden love between the two main characters. Falling in love with an ex-con already seems like a bad idea, but throw in the fact that your brother is his parole officer and the drama practically writes itself!

The relationship between Mason and Mia ignites fast and intensely. While Mason is clearly meant to embody the “bad boy” archetype, his behavior sometimes veers more toward abrasive than brooding, which can make it difficult to fully connect with him at times. That said, the couple does share genuine, tender moments that balance out the rough edges, and the chemistry between them brings plenty of heat.

The rapid progression of their relationship is likely driven by the frequent suspenseful and life-threatening situations they face together, which adds urgency and momentum to the story. Overall, "Arresting Mason" delivers on romance and spice while offering enough drama and danger to appeal to readers who enjoy fast-paced, high-stakes love stories.

This is the first book in the Arresting Onyx Series and starts the series off on a high note. Talk about a romantic thriller, this one will get your head spinning. Mason almost lost his life because of Mia and she almost lost hers because of him. He was an ex-con who had been part of a mafia gang and her brother was his parole officer. Naturally he didn't approve of their relationship. They both had trust issues but not with each other. From the time they met their chemistry was off the charts and one see-saw. It was up and down so much I got dizzy. Well-written with interesting characters and a page-turner of a story. This is one you don't want to miss. I read a free book via Booksprout and voluntarily chose to review it.

Rarely do I read Contemporary novels that contain no wisps of magic or sci-fi, but after I read Arresting Mason's description I grabbed a jar of peanut butter (extra crunchy Jif for those who care) and got down to Daulton business.

Set in Colorado, Arresting Mason follows Mason Harding, an ex-con recently released from a ten-year prison stint, and Mia Eddison, a divorced boutique owner. This unconventional love story begins with Mason narrowly escaping Mia's car bumper to the legs in a crosswalk - perhaps not a 'love at first sight' type of story but definitely an 'I'm happy I didn't put you in the hospital' one. Do not let the hint of potential romance create unrealistic chocolate and flower fantasies... From the moment your fingertips touch page one the author will own you at hello. Mason wants to leave his old life behind, but his old life hasn't finished with him yet. Arresting Mason delves into prison brutality, drug deals, gang violence, kidnappings, and crooked cops, but it also clings tenaciously to redemption, family, love, new beginnings, and forgiveness.

Amber Daulton knows how to write a hot sexy thriller! The steam continues to rise throughout Arresting Mason as danger unfolds and the well-developed characters, who couldn’t be better matched, show their love for each other. Mia uses untapped internal strength to help her new boyfriend, Mason, an ex-con who is head over heels in love with her, get out of tough situations so they can enjoy a life together. The dialogue flows naturally and the novel grips you from one dangerous scene after another. The story has you guessing to the end!

Second Chances (an audio review)

I’ve only listened to one other Amber Daulton audio and it was, to say the least, very different from this one. But I’m always game to try new things and so seized on this one. I like second chance romances – and this very much fit that category. Mason’s newly out of prison. He’s done his time, and he’s got a good job and an a-hole of a parole officer. Then he meets Mia, and everything changes.

Mia’s got a good life – she’s got close friends and a shop she loves. But meeting Mason changes her life profoundly. Suddenly her small existence becomes chaotic as Mason’s past catches up to them. I liked that Mia wasn’t willing to stand back and be the willing sacrifice – she was willing to stand up for herself.

This was a good listen and I’m intrigued to see where this goes next. I see Mia’s brother – who is also Mason’s parole officer – is up next to fall in love. It’ll be interesting to see who’s up for the challenge.

Riley Raye is a new narrator to me and I thought she did a good job. Will definitely look out for her in the future.

A suspenseful, steamy romance between Mason, a former prisoner whose dark past comes back to haunt him and Mia, a boutique shop owner who can't help but fall for the impossibly alluring ex-con. Filled with danger, betrayal, family loyalty and prison gang wars, this page-turner is a must read for all who love romantic thrillers!

Mason sometimes just needs his woman, “I want you, godda*n it.” He growled the sensual edict against her mouth, his lips hard on hers. “I need all of you.” Mason doesn't like when his woman is put in danger, “I’m not angry. I’m furious. I don’t want you near them. You can trust me with anything, especially if it deals with me. Don’t you know that?” I liked this book, Mason was very into his girl a nd w ould do anything for her.

Arresting Mason is a good summer read. I love the characters and the suspense. I did have a little difficulty seeing some of the events near the end. They seem a little out there. I would like to see more of the couple going forward. I'm not sure where the series is going in the future, but I want more of Alan, Jim, and Benji's backstory.

What a great start to a new series. This is the first book I gave read by this author and I will be reading more. Mason has a past to overcome and I really enjoyed seeing his growth throughout the book. Mia is spunky and stubborn and able to see past the past. Definitely an interesting storyline with plenty of twist, heat and emotion

A fun entertaining story with great characters! Mia almost runs Mason down with her car, such a delightfully dangerous meet-cute. The chemistry between them is almost palpable! I liked getting to know the characters and watching Mason grow as a person after getting out on parole. He still struggles with his old survival habits he learned in prison and his and Mia's relationship has its struggles because of it. Mia is also fun because she runs her own business and has a very nosy brother in her life. The dynamic with the brother was done well with him being a parole officer and demonstrating a protectiveness over his sister. I look forward to reading the brother's story because I kind of want Mia and Mason to give him a little run for his money in a little revenge.
There's lots of steam, some swearing, and a bit of violence (not gory at all) and talk of drugs, drug use and drug distribution.
