Death has come for the undying.

As a genetics graduate student, Sasha Keleterina knows a thing or two about blood. She’s courageous, capable, and not the kind of woman in need of saving. But when she’s attacked in her lab, she barely escapes with her life—only to find out she’s becoming one of the undead.

A deadly virus is poisoning vampires in the Portland area, endangering them all. Master vampire Arsen Eskandar is desperate to prove himself and save his people. Following the trail of a recent attacker, Arsen encounters Sasha. She’s beautiful, intelligent, and a fighter, and the attraction between them burns like wildfire. But when the master of a rival clan declares Sasha is not only his—but the cure —a centuries-old war between two ancient vampire clans rises to the forefront and a battle to claim Sasha ensues.

But they don’t know her. The only one Sasha is willing to be claimed by—is herself.

Desperately needs an editor to go through and make the chapters and plot cohesive. Gave up at 50% as I was too frustrated with how it kept feeling like I skipped some information. Don’t recommend this book and am completely confused by how many people give it high stars. Great idea, terrible execution.

Book one in the new Girl, Vampire series and what a great start it is too. First we are introduced to a world that knows vampires exist and a shortened history lesson of an ongoing feud. Fat forward to present time where graduate student Sasha is in the lab late one night. After running to the vending machine she returns to find everyone dead and in no time at all she is under attack as well. Instead of dying she is bitten forcing her to start her new life as a vampire. Unfortunately there is some crazy stuff going on and she so gets thrown right in the middle of all of it. Great world building, lots of details, and more then enough action to really keep you hooked on the story. If you are looking for a good vampire book then I highly recommend this one. I really enjoyed it so I give it 4/5 stars.

Although this story starts off slow I really enjoyed how things worked out. I was glad to see that simple everyday "actions" were not described in detail as my brain automatically put the actions in, to much detail turns me off a book. There was quite the surprise at the end of this book so give it a listen, as the narrator does a wonderful job with the characters.

Sasha is a student majoring in genetics. She's living an ordinary life until she's attacked and bitten. Now she finds herself in the middle of two rival vampires vying for her and being the hope of finding a cure for the disease that is affecting the vampires.

I liked Sasha. She's independent, opinionated, not afraid to speak her mind. She can hold her ground against two alpha vampires. I found it interesting that her close friend was a guy. I hope there is more of him and that he'll be in the know. As for Arsen and Nikolai, I don't know about these two. I can't figure them out; I can't tell who's side they're on aside of their own. I thought I had a sense of who was Arsen, but there are some surprising things about him.

This is a spin off of the Kresova Vampire Harems series. The Baetal and the Draugur were two of the vampire races mentioned in that series. There isn't much known about them as to what I already knew. Also I'm uncertain as to why these two are rival clans for so many years. I wish there was a bit more background. I enjoyed the second half more than the first half. There is a twist and turn ending with a cliffhanger. I should have seen what was coming, but I was distracted by someone's charm. I'd like to read what happens next.

Short, but fun

We have the usual premise of the damsel in distress being turned by a vampire, but this story has put a little twist on that plot that I very much enjoyed.

The main characters were not at all that well developed, which I expected given the length of the book, but what was evident is that there is a lot of potential in them. Yet, we are presented with a tug of war over our damsel (who wants to control her own future, thank you very much), so if that dynamic isn’t your cup of tea then you might want to skip this.

Feisty and fast-paced! I really enjoyed how the story moved and you never knew who was really on the Sasha’s side. I didn’t care for either of the males vying for her attention but I like Sasha’s character. She was fun and kickbutt! Despite all the circumstances of what happened to her she wasn’t going to take anything while she had fight in her, I really liked that about her.

This was a good read even though there aren’t any new concepts in here. Girl scientist, romance and a possibly oncoming love triangle. I’m onto the next book.

Maybe 3.5 stars. I felt like I was confused at several different parts of the story. 1) if she is a feminist, take no shit kind of woman why is she with two abusive guys?!? Why is she hanging out with the guy who kidnapped her or the guy who almost killed her? Leave those fuckers be and move on chick. 2) why for a supposedly smart woman does she not try to find some information about being a vampire??? She has library access and access to the elder dudes! Maybe if she had less sex ( not described) and studied more she would be better off. Educate yourself!! Agh!! 3) there is a part where is seems like a time gap happens with no explanation. It was a bit jarring to one day show up to see guy A after guy B lets you leave for the first time only to be suddenly holding court with the elders? Hmm...

DNF, stopped at 45%. Just too many details and explanations left out. Small details that the author just missed over and over makes for an unenjoyable read. For instance, main character is in the hospital, nurse says she can't take IV out before main character uses the bathroom. She takes pole with her to get dressed and pee. Next, she's walking out with a vampire. No one takes out IV, besides the fact, one cannot get a top on without taking out an IV because sleeves get in the way. That kind of thing, over and over, gets just frustrating. I can overlook a few problems but not when that kind of thing happens ever few pages.

There are so many hints at potential but when there’s graphic-ish sex 57% in that completely doesn’t align with the hot mess of a story line that’s happening (like seriously, she doesn’t know this vamp at all), just nope. The story really is all over the place and you really do feel like you’ve missed something in every single chapter. DNF.

Couldn't get past the first couple of pages. There's inconsistent spelling: "Hekate" was bad enough, but two lines later "Heckate"? There's incompetent writing: check the definition of "decimate"! How do you kill 10 per cent of a cave?
I gave up.

[SPOILER WARNING]

The plot had such great promise, but the writing was an honest letdown; full of plot holes and inconsistencies. The romance felt rushed with absolutely no build up and consisted completely of overused tropes and cliches. It seemed like the author didn’t want to make a stereotypical love story and wanted to be original by adding in action and suspense, but instead ended up overwriting those aspects of the book with a stereotypical love story. I had to stop about halfway in, as it was maddening how skewed the story had become.

One major plot hole was when the female lead asked to be given a little bit of time to consider the proposal to work for the vampires and the male lead agreed to respect her wishes. Only for him to kidnap her a few paragraphs later, claiming he was ‘sorry’ but ‘didn’t have any other choice’ and that the whole situation was time sensitive as his people were being infected and going crazy very quickly. Of course, the situation was time sensitive enough for him to kidnap her without giving her a day or two to consider the offer, but the situation WASN’T time sensitive enough to stop their random make out session, that happened when he was supposed to be giving her crucial information about the disease instead.

Additionally, the female lead makes a big show of preaching about how everyone around her is insensitive and glued to their phones, as they didn’t even seem to care about the murder of her colleagues, which had happened only nights before. But when she meets the murderer himself, who had also assaulted her that night, she weakly accuses him of being a murderer, calls him a ‘prick’ and such, and then is promptly comforted by him when he rubs her face and says that the humans were ‘prey’ so it was natural to kill them. The author justifies this by saying the sire-fledgling bond they had was most likely the cause of her unexpected affection towards the murderer, but it just makes the character seem weak willed, hypocritical, and lust driven.

Many books attempt this ‘love at first sight’ concept, so it’s not too surprising to see it in this one, but it was disappointing when the author introduced a female lead that seemed to be confident, capable, and intelligent (this was self-claimed), then turned out to be scared, constantly in need of help, and honestly kind of stupid. She goes along with whatever the male leads tell her to do and doesn’t even attempt to at least THINK of a way to get out of the situation. She just says ‘I guess I have no choice’ and follows their orders.

Also, all the vampires seem to think she’s some sort of savior who will find the cure and rescue them, but still act as if they could murder her any second if she doesn’t listen to them. This is most likely to strengthen her dependency on the male leads by putting her in a scenario where she has no one else to trust or rely on, as everyone except for the male leads lack even basic decency, but really? The vampires are begging for her to be kind and save them, but are still snarling at her and threatening to hurt her?

In the end, the story is a decent read if you want a typical love triangle story with little substance and lots of cliche romance, but don’t expect the strong female lead and exciting action that the synopsis claims it has. Of course, maybe that appears in the later half of the book, as I couldn’t finish reading it, but the first half of the book was interesting for all of about 5 paragraphs and then went downhill at a rapid rate.

Ok, so, I have to be up front about things. When I first started this book, I didn't think I'd like it. The background details about vamp rules/customs and what's going on are left to a minimum and as I was reading, I was honestly wondering if I'd feel vaguely lost the entire book. It also gets a little choppy between chapters, in terms of what's going on, and I didn't feel any chemistry between Arsen and Sasha at first. I'd just finished reading Knox's Wicked Kingdoms series and I was sitting here quietly like 'oh no, what if this doesn't measure up, I don't want to diss a review or just not put a review, omg.'

So I'm here to say, everything that I was worried about becomes a non-issue within the first third of the book. The awkwardness goes away and what's left is this really great, unique story that I'm already hooked on. I really love how Sasha is this awesome, lab rat character who's being fought over for her brains, not her beauty. As a former nurse, I was actually squealing when the book mentions specific tests Sasha in running to see what vampire blood is like compared to a human's. As a foodie with a dark side, I cackled over the dark meaning of free range.

And most of all, what really caught me was how Girl, Bitten doesn't have a perfect male character. I like that as a reader, I'm free to cheer for either Arsen or Nickolai because while they both have appeal, they both also have major flaws. I have to keep reading this series, because I don't know who will become the antagonist and who will be the hero. This book absolutely shatters the cliche of hot male lead with no flaws and I really, really appreciate seeing something that doesn't fit that stereotype.

So although this book is a little rough to start off, it's absolutely worth reading and I can't wait to sink my teeth into the next one--cheesy pun most definitely intended.

This is the first book I have read by Graceley Knox and D.D. Miers and it won’t be the last. I listened to the audio version and I can’t recommend it enough. Graceley and D.D’s story is fantastic and it’s backed up by brilliant narration.
Sasha is a graduate genetics student and is working late one night in her university lab. After taking a much needed juice break she comes back into the lab to find her fellow students with their throats torn out. She is terrified as there is blood everywhere but what makes it worse is who ever did it is still there in the lab in the blood bank. She is hiding and terrified when he starts to come out. When he does he claims he knows the little rabbit is there and can hear her heart beating. Peaking from her hiding space she can’t believe her eyes as it looks like his eyes are glowing and his teeth must have been sharpened as no way can somene have unnatural teeth like that.
She does the only thing she can do and run only to find the university security staff have met the same end as her fellow students in the lab. She is tackled to the floor and before it all goes black she feels her attackers face at her neck and a horrible pain there.

This is the opening scene and it was so tense and scary you could imagine you were Sacha and live it all with her. Misbelief and fear at what is happening.

The story is an epic ride from here where we find two waring vampire covens that both think she is the key to finding a cure for a new disease attacking the vampires. Both leaders of these covens want her and will stop at nothing to get her. It is a wild rollercoaster ride.

Sasha is my favourite type of female lead. She is out spoken, sassy and a force to be reckoned with. The narrator is great at really delivering what she is about.

This is not to be missed. Great escapism for lockdown. Highly recommend 5/5

These are new authors for me, but I do so love a good PNR read, the blurb looked interesting and it did turn out to be a good read, though not what I was expecting.

You get a bit of background explaining about the two different vampire fractions and then move along to the story, revolving around a student, Sasha, who is studying genetics and ends up being bitten by a vampire. It turns out this vampire has a disease that is killing the vampires off, the fractions having called a truce in order to find a cure. The vamp that bit, Nikolai, her turns out to be the leader of one of the fractions and biting her cures him of this disease. The other leader, Arsen, shows up while she is in hospital saying he wants to help her and get her to help the vamps find a cure for this disease. Both these leaders decide to stake a claim on Sasha and want her, while she wants to make the decisions for herself and ends up in a dual, along with her, fighting for her freedom or at least the decision on where she goes.

The idea behind the story is a good one, different from what I've read, but really wasn't what I was expecting. There's a lot about finding the cure to the disease and not an awful lot of vamp action as it was. I couldn't tell you in what part of the book Sasha went from being human to being a vampire, it just sort of happened without it being told.

I liked Sasha, she's her own woman, opinionated, intelligent, sassy and not afraid to stand up for herself. Nikolai and Arsen leave a lot to be desired, not sure which I would choose between them in Sasha's position, neither can be trusted.

The book ends in a bit of a cliffhanger with lots of questions that need answering in the next book.

Girl,Bitten
By Graceley Knox and D.D. Miers

“The only reason they’d gathered was to call for peace. A peace brought on by a common enemy. Death.”

Meet Sasha. Strong, independent and brilliant. She is attacked one tragic night, and has to re-“vamp” her outlook on life. Enter Nikolai. Charming, good looking, and arrogant, Niko will stop at nothing to get what he wants. And now Arsen. Powerful, handsome and determined, Arsen will forgo years of tradition to get the one thing he can’t have. But when one thing threatens them all, forces will need to be joined in order to save their race.

“I’m in it now, and I know Nikolai won’t let me out of my agreement until he’s gotten everything he wants from me, including the very blood running through my veins. I just want a chance to keep some of it for myself.”

Girl,Bitten is action packed!!! Sasha is the ultimate lead female character. Both head strong and witty, her attitude brings so much emotion and humour to this intense story. Add in some insanely hot vampires, and we have Girl,Bitten. Graceley and D.D are author soul mates. When reading, I couldn’t tell where one started and the other ended. Each and every word flowed so well together!

“His eyes reveal the real concern written on his face, his shoulders slumping in defeat as he realizes I’m not going to make it out of this alive. What the hell have I gotten myself into?”

Stay tuned for more....

I will admit I kept having to re read every so often because I was like what??? I just couldn't get my head around it, but then I'm glad that I kept going because then the whole story started to amp up. Sasha is strong and independent, and I like that. She isn't bothered about tradition, infact I'd say she wants to make her own new traditions. I thoroughly enjoyed the whole virus taking out vampires idea, and feel it has a lot of potential, but it really took a back seat to the love triangle. The Provokar was interesting and kept me on my seat, I was definitely rooting for Sasha. To be fair I can see why Sasha wants to choose her own hand, I don't honestly know who I would go for, because in short, they are equally as bad as each other, perhaps Niko has a slight edge, only because he was straight up from the start with his intentions. I was shocked at the twists and turns, but the cliffhanger wasn't exactly unexpected.

A good read once you get into it, my first from the authors, and I cannot wait to dive into book 2.

Five ⭐️’s From Me!

Omg I don’t know if I have the right words to describe this book except to say that it was freaking awesome!
I started reading and I absolutely could not pull myself away from this book at all. It was like I was put into a trace and I couldn’t break free until I got to the end. The constant building and releasing all throughout this book was like being on a really wild roller coaster ride which it was so exciting!
But unfortunately I got to the end only to find out there is a cliffhanger!! Which I have to say wasn’t very nice at all the way they did the cliffy! So now I have to wait until the next book is out to find out what’s happened!
But yes I do recommend this book but only if you don’t mind waiting for the next book to be released.
I absolutely enjoyed this story and I know you will too so go ahead and get this book and enjoy the ride!

Marie's Tempting Reads ARC Review:

Another appealing heroine who is tough as nails, feisty, can kick butt better than any hero I read about in a while. This is a fast paced, page-turner with a plot that is full of mind boggling twists, heart-pounding action, and a storyline that just keeps you on your toes! Its thrilling with some wonderful characters and great banter!

I think this book is a great read. I never get tired of reading books by Knox or Miers. They make a stupendous team. Girl, Bitten shows just how amazing they are with their writing. So go ahead, I DARE you to pick up this book and NOT like it.

Girl, Bitten gets BRILLIANT FOUR AND A HALF STARS!

A good start to something I hope will be great

So the main reason this only got 4 stars from me is because there is a lot left out in terms of explanation. This left confusion because we go from Sasha barely knowing Arsen, like a few hours at the most, to her knowing certain vampire relationships that were never told to her in the book. Plus, no one starts kissing someone minutes after meeting them and believing the guy wants to be your forever, just nope. Other than that, it was good, lots of action, a girl who is strong if naïve but thrown into the abyss and trusting no one.

Sasha fights for her right to choose herself and gains 3 Stars from it.

If I am being honest I don't like the male characters and I am not a fan of love triangles. But my favorite is determined and now I want to know how it ends.

Sasha is a strong and independent woman that knows what she wants and is fighting for it. It does not help that she has zero chance to adapt to her new situation or the old vampire laws that she disagrees with non stop. A strong Character as can be.

I really did not like the males in the beginning. One grew on me but I have to see how both of them develop further down the line. Otherwise an interesting read.

I really liked how Sasha was smart and feisty which is not what either Niko or Arsen expect nor is the fact that she may hold or know how to identify the cure for a disease making their people go crazy. Niko and Arsen are both alpha males who want what they want no matter what Sasha wants and is there an ulterior motive to wanting her as theirs? I really didn't know who to trust and kept switching sides through out the book and with what Sasha over hears at the end yikes best she chose the right side!!

Girl, Bitten Review

I'm torn on this one so I would give it there and a half stars if I could.
The overall idea of the plot is great and the potential for the characters is very interesting. But the book itself went very quickly and skipped through a lot. For me it felt like there were chunks of detail missing and that made it hard for me to really connect with the characters.
The ending was good though so I think I will try the next book in the series to see if the plot comes together a bit more.

Choices to make and who to trust....

Vampires are being attacked by a strange disease that is killing them. When an infected vampire Prince attacks Sasha and is cured, two rival clans fight to see will claim her, but she decides she wants to make her own choices. The choice is easy until she over years a conversation, now she doesn't know who trust.

A unique story of a woman learning that the person she is falling for cares more for power than her. Interesting and different from mist vampire stories, this more toured women empowerment.

This book was amazing. Two Vampires, sworn enemies but has a truce until Sasha comes along. I really enjoyed Arsen, Sasha and Niko’s story. You don’t know who’s on who’s side. I really enjoyed this book. Sasha is a student working on genetics when she walks in on complete chaos in her lab, and sees that the murder is still there. She comes to in the hospital, and from then on her entire world is flipped upside down. Arsen and Niko both want her for their own, but she is not ok with being someone’s property.

I liked the storyline, and the characters were all great, whether you loved them or hated them. I’m excited to see what comes next for the series.

This is a new series spin off from the Kresova Series and a good start to a. series by these talented authors! Once again I loved the FMC, she is fierce and independent and does not put up with any bull! This book is slow in the beginning but picks up as it continues on. It sets the scene for any books in the series, however, there is s a lot of unanswered questions and background which will hopefully get answered in the next book! A good start and am excited to see what happens next.
