Zeph is half angel, half human, and a total disappointment. As the first double Divisa born in 20 years, everyone expected his supernatural gift to be extraordinary, but instead he didn’t have one at all.
After 17 years of insignificance, Zeph has given up on ever gaining the approval of his family and community, but when Zeph meets Eve, she sees value in him that no else has. Suddenly, Zeph’s quirks start to look more like rare supernatural gifts, instead.
Besides being brilliant, beautiful, and way out of Zeph’s league, Eve is an intriguing mystery that Zeph can’t resist trying to unravel. Zeph is convinced that Eve is a Celestia Divisa, but she’s completely unaware of their existence, and she doesn’t seem to have a gift, either.
When Zeph shares his theories with his friends and family, it’s no surprise that no one else believes him. No one but Eve, that is. Together, can Zeph and Eve discover their incredible destiny?

This was a great book. I really enjoyed it. It was nice to finally read a book where all the characters were wonderful and I didn't find too much wrong with any of them. It was nice that Zeph finally met someone and could feel good about himself. Although, his family was never as bad as he made them seem. Eve was a wonderful caring person and I'm so glad that she was his soulmate. If your looking for a quick but awesome read then this is the book. I'm so glad I read it.
Not only the story built and writing style, but also the characters got me hooked onto this book. I completely adore(d) Eve and Zeph's relationship, and how they're meant for one another.
Date with Destiny by Kellie McAllen a five-star read that will make you fall in love. This is the first book in the Celestia Divisa Collection and what a great start, this was written so well, each character tells their own story and each story interacts the two main characters in this book are Zepharella Arella and Eve Jones two teenagers that you will identify with no matter your age. They both have different lives and interconnect on a tiny basis, a shared look across a school canteen and they have a date with destiny. Will destiny bring them closer together and reveal things they can’t believe or will the differences be too much?
This book is a super sweet story about Zeph and Eve. (If you've read Soulmate you already know some friends of Eve.) I really love Kellie McAllen's writing style and I really loved the story.
(I received a copy from the author in exchange for my honest review)
Wow... just wow...! This is the first book I've read by Kellie McAllen and I absolutely loved it! It's also one of a very small number of books that I've managed to read within 24 hours :)
Zeph is half human, half angel. He's an outcast within his community but one day he met Eve and suddenly his life is turned around.
Eve is very talented and logial, even a little bit geeky, but she's also always been interested in supernatural topics like angels. She has an ability she's kept quiet to herself but it was all revealed when she met Zeph.
Zeph and Eve are just soooo sweet together, they're the perfect high school sweethearts and it really warms my heart when I read about their journey together.
They need to work together as their talents are revealed and they can only be stronger as a team. There's a sweet happy ending to this book and I cannot wait to read the next book in the series - Loving Kindness!
Loved it !! Loved it so much!! The story was amazing!! I love the half blooded (half human half angel) and Zeph was just amazing I fell in love with him, and also Eve I loved her personality she's perfect, and she loves math like me HAHAHAH. And also I cried, and cried so hard. The connection between these characters was amazing, it felt like I'm living with them. Amazing book.
Author Kellie McAllen’s new book, Discerning Spirits Book 1, filled with hope, goodness, and love, reveals a world unseen by humans. Although living side by side, humans have no idea the Celestia Divisa exist. The first book in the The Celestia Divisa Collection Book 1, the reader is introduced to the Celestia Divisa, half human half angel. This series is a collection of books which are clean paranormal angel romance novels.
Seventeen years ago, born to two Celestia Divisa, Zephanian, aka, Zeph, should have been very special with special double gifts. Few double Celestia Divisa have been born; his birth long awaited by his mother and father was the high light of their life. With pride Chief of Police and expectant father Geoffery, awaits his coming. Disappointments follows the naming ceremony; Zeph’s gift has not revealed itself. Unheard of in the Celestia Divisa commmunity, dismay follows.
Zeph’s a very ordinary teenager with pimples, on the cusp of sexual maturity, insecure, and having few friends. Without a gift he is different from the rest of the Celestia Divisa’s. Things beginning to change when he meets beautiful red-haired Eve at school. Zeph suspects she is a Celestia Divisa.
Will Eve and Zeph discover her identity? Will Zeph ever come into his gift? What does destiny have in store for these two young people in the first bliss of love?
Grab your favorite beverage and have a seat, my young adult romance novel review of Discerning Spirits follows.
CHARACTERS, PLOTTING, DEVELOPMENT:
First of all, I must say how much I enjoyed this book. McAllen set the hook in the first pages as Zeph’s father was expounding on his pride of his coming double Celestia Diva child. Author Kellie McAllen skillfully showed that angels have the same the traits as human; misplaced pride being one of them.
Furthermore, McAllen portrayed her teenage characters as typical teenagers not angelic beings. As a result they have the same characteristics as human teens; they are extroverted, excitable, and immature. I had forgotten how silly I was as a teen when with a group of my friends. McAllen brought all the insecurity, immaturity and silliness to mind as I read Discerning Spirits.
With smooth and steady plotting, McAllen transitioned from one scene to another. The story-line did not bog down or lag. The concept of the story-line was original and refreshing and the clean sweet romance was wonderful. I give McAllen high marks for her clean writing style which did not need to resort to sex or fluff to sale her story-line.
Finally, in concluding my review of Discerning Spirits, I found the book well-written with well-developed characters. McAllen left many openings in the story-line for future books and I look forward to the next book in this series. Furthermore, I would not hesitate to buy this book for my self or a friend.
DISCERNING SPIRITS RECOMMENDATION: STARS 4
In addition, I gave Discerning Spirits 4 well-deserved stars. Suitable for young adults and adults, I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys solid romance with a little mystery added for spice.
FINALLY, PLEASE NOTE:
Additionally, I received this book from the author and chose to voluntarily review the book with an honest young adult romance novel review. Lastly, book reviews of any novel are dependent on the book review author’s opinion. Consequently, all book reviews on-line and on my blog, are my opinions. In addition, the ARC did not affect my voluntary young adult romance novel review.
Zephaniah, a high school senior with low self esteem, meets Eve, a Mathlete Champion, who sees the greatness in him. Raised knowing he is a Celestial Divisa (half angel / half human) but thinking that he is the only one of his kind without a gift, Zeph has struggled his entire life with feelings of worthlessness and the weight of being a disappointment to his family. Eve has a love for angels she can't explain and has an irresistible pull toward Zeph. As they start their relationship, does it have any chance of lasting?
As I am approaching my 25th high school reunion, I wasn't sure if a clean, teen romance novel would keep my attention. Discerning Spirits not only kept my attention until I finished the book in one sitting, but I was also surprised that I really liked the characters and could relate to them. Kellie has a great way of conveying teenage feelings without trapping us in a world of teenage angst.
Even though Discerning Spirits is the first book in the Celestia Divisa Collection, it can be read as a standalone novel. HEA with no cliffhanger, but there is enough teasing that you want to read the next book in the series right away! I loved the paranormal angel theme and look forward to reading the rest of the books in this series!
I've been doing ARCs for a while now, and I received this book via instafreebie in exchange of an honest review! Discerning Spirits starts out as a bit slow, and here and there it's "tell not show" instead of "show not tell", but once Eve comes in Zeph's life, the book starts having a pace. The couple's cute relationship and their investment in it hooked me from the beginning of their meeting. Where most authors portray their males as Alpha, Zeph is not a bad boy, rich guy, instead he's a shy, not-wanting-a-spotlight guy, having insecurities and being a real teenager. Eve is the same. She thinks her geekiness scares off guys, when it's her intelligence that starts off her and Zeph's story. Zeph's and Eve's gift is predictable from the beginning, but their is destiny is not! The way Mrs. McAllen portrayed all her characters (even the side ones), is downright fantastic! All in all, Discerning Spirits is a good evening read! Loved it!❤ The full review will be up on my blog soon! - Mirella

This book was nice. It was a kinda cute, fluffy love story. Boy meets girl, boy falls in love with girl, boy and girl live happily ever after etc. The writing was okay, the characters were okay, everything was okay. Nice. And while that in itself isn't bad thing, it also doesn't really make the book stand out. I sort of felt like I was reading something I've read a hundred times before. And while that fact that I've read it a hundred times before means I like that sort of story, and I do, I kinda wanted there to be something different. Something that made it stand out. I did find it a little unrealistic at times, but even this fit with the norm as all these kind of stories are unrealistic. So if you're looking for a quick, easy, fluffy, light-hearted read then you could give this a try, but for me it was just sort of average. Nice, but average.
I enjoyed this book but felt like so much more of the parts could have been expanded on, we could have learnt more from the characters, therefore everything wouldn't have fell into place so quickly. Some people don't believe in themselves and life gets them down. Joy, acceptance of their peers is a concept that others have, when you feel you don't have anything to offer. This story is about all of that and how just one person can wipe every belief you had, disappear in a heartbeat. Give it a chance, read it and enjoy. Kellie McAllen reminds me of one of those mothers who disguises their children's greens, so they don't realise she's found a way for them to get some of their 5 a day. Her style of writing is the same, before you know it, that great story could have a valuable life lesson learnt.
Great read. Well written with a great plot and characters. I was engrossed from start to finish. Zeph, is a senior in high school with low self esteem. He meets Eve, Mathlete Champion, who sees the greatness in him. Raised knowing he is a Celestial Divisa (half angel / half human) but he thinks he is the only one of his kind without a gift. Zeph has struggled his entire life with feelings of worthlessness and the weight of being a disappointment to his family. Eve has a love for angels, she can't explain and has an irresistible pull toward Zeph. They start a relationship but will it last? I can't wait to read the rest of the series. I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
Clean sweet romance. From an Angle who doesn't know his gift, to a hidden angle girl who doesn't know her dad. Two relationships within one book, and a unbreakable bond.
Celestial Divia, half human half angel. She has one divia parent and he has two. Could this really work? Why can't everyone see "the glow"?
I love this book, id give it a 5/5. This book is good for all young teens and adults. Completely clean, although it does bring up sex, due to her father not being there when she grew up. This is a book where reality meets fantasy, and if you believe in God this book may be very interesting to you.

I downloaded this book through a special offer because the title and book art drew me in. It took me awhile to get around to reading it due to so many books on my to be read pile. However, once I started reading it I couldn't stop. I had to find out how Zeph and Eve's story turned out. This book was well written with nice surprises in each chapter. A very clean romance. Now I want to read all of them in this series. I highly recommend reading this book for young adults of all ages.
I'm falling in love with these stories. First I read Bk 4, then Bk 3 and now Bk 1. I've never been a great lover of paranormal books but these Angel Romances are so sweet, they're like a drink of pure water and just as satisfying. This story is about a Double Celestia Divisa, Zeph Arella who believes he doesn't have a gift until he meets Eve Jones. He's sure she is Celestia, but how come she doesn't seem to know it, what's with her name and how come he can't discern her gift?
I really enjoyed reading this book. This is a sweet take on the divisa/angel romance tales that PNR readers may have become accustomed to reading at this point. Eve and Zeph are adorable, and you can't help but fall for this book as you get to know them. I look forward to reading more books in this series. I would recommend this book for fans of clean PNR with sweet YA safe story lines.
I love this sweet YA romance involving angels interacting with humans. The teen characters are very well portrayed, as are the various relationships. I particularly liked Zeph, the one who doesn’t quite fit in. The story was far better, and had much more depth to it, than I anticipated. I would definitely read more by this author.
I don’t really go for this type of genre, this is my first time reading a book like this with angels and that paranormal sense. I love that it had romance in it though that is what turned the book into a page turner for me. I love it and I can’t wait to read the next one. :)
I liked this book! It was sweet and romantic and I definitely liked the supernatural aspect of it! However, it took me a bit to get into it since the supernatural aspect wasn’t easily understandable at the beginning. Still a good read though!
It has a lot of problems, but the characters are so cute I can't help but like it! Especially Zeph and Eve and their interactions together. More YA couples could learn from these two.
If you are a fan of paranormal angel romances this is one for you, such a fast read for me, my 1st book by Kellie McAllen. I loved the book, love the cover, it was cute, lighthearted, & a fun read.
This is the perfect book for a teenager. If you are looking for a young adult paranormal romance book, but only with a slight twist, then this is the book for you.
Such a heartwarming and inspiring story! I truly enjoyed it! Would so recommend it to all my sisters ,very well written I couldn't put it down for long!
A sweet great read about a half angel who falls in love, if you like angels you will like this story! This is my second story I have read from this author, both were great and enjoyable to read!
