SQ: Spiritual Intelligence

At the beginning of the twentieth century, as psychologists discovered ways and means to measure intelligence, Aristotle's definition of man as "a rational animal" developed into an obsession with IQ. In the mid-1990s, Daniel Goleman popularized research into emotional intelligence, EQ, pointing out that EQ is a basic requirement for the appropriate use of IQ. There is enough collective evidence from psychology, neurology, anthropology and cognitiv science to hsow us that there is a third "Q", "SQ" or Spiritual Intelligence. Unlike IQ, which computers have and EQ which exists in higher mammals, SQ is uniquely human and, the author argues, the most fundamental of the three. It is linked to humanity's need for meaning, an issue very much at the forefront of people's minds as the century draws to a close. SQ is what we use to develop our longing and capacity for meaning, vision and value. It allows us to dream and to strive.

This is a solid book with lots of well constructed thoughts. Many of those thoughts are new, brave and refreshing. I think that ultimately, this work will be recognised as a pivotal work, shaping Western thought of the mind.

Doğrusu pek umduğumu bulamadım bu kitapta. Kitabın içi hem dolu hem boş. Bir mantiksal zeka(IQ), bir duygusal zeka (EQ) bir de bunların üzerinde spritüel zeka (SQ) var diyor yazar özetle. Ama alt başlıkları oldukça yüzeysel hikayelerle ve dağınık alıntılarla doldurmuş. J.F.Holland'ın 6 kişilik tiplemesini alıp, üzerine Jung kişilik tiplemeleri, onun üzerine çakralar, onun üzerine biraz astroloji ve gezegenleri oturtmuş. Bunların hiç biri konusunda fazla bir bilginiz yoksa enteresan gelebilir ama bu kişilik tiplerini de pek bir yere bağlayamadım ben. Çok kötü diyemem, içinde bazen hoş alıntılar falan vardı. Ama aslında alıntıların, şiirlerin de biraz gözünü çıkarmış, sanki kitabın teorik havada kalan kısmını alıntılarla doldurmaya çalışmış. Benim için pek faydalı ve de keyifli bir okuma olmadı.

İlk kitaptaki başarısının üzerine bir kitap daha yazması istemiş, ama bi şekil malzeme ve içeriği ayarlayamamış gibi hissettim. İleride yazara The Quantum Self ile bir şans daha vermeye çalışacağım.
