This book doesn’t give an in-depth look into the American Civil War, rather it presents facts and little known information about the people who fought on the opposing sides. It’s great for anyone that has studied the war in detail, but is also a great way of introducing new readers to the history of the war between the states.
While this book covers the entirety of the Civil War, it does not serve well as "comprehensive" view. Instead, it is perfect for readers who've already spent considerable time reading on the subject. Many of the anecdotes contained within are of the sort most surveys of the period skip, or only make passing mention of. Many noteworthy "bit players" in the war make the cut here, and for that reason is it well worth the time of a budding Civil War buff.
A quick read overview of Civil War tidbits. I liked the chronological timeline throughout the book. But I wish the stories would have been in chronological order, or another logical format. There seemed to be no logical order to the stories, you just jumped from one topic to another throughout the book.
I am a big trivia fan as well as a Civil War buff. Which is the main reason I bought this. Some of the information in the book I knew from past books but some of it is fresh information. For any Civil War/trivia buff like me it was still a good buy and a great find.
