T. B. Markinson is an American writer, living in England. When she isn't writing, she’s traveling the world, watching sports on the telly, visiting pubs in England, or taking the dog for a walk. Not necessarily in that order.
Tegan and Gemma are trying to survive the second year of college, but Tegan finds herself being blackmailed and trying to get rid of the evidence to rectify the situation. It’s not as simple as she thinks, especially when Gemma is having difficulty not being jealous.
With new dramas and challenges, there was never a dull moment in this season of Tegan and Gemma’s story. They really did get to experience all the drama of college life, with relationships that were getting more complicated than ever. Tegan was her usual self, bringing the light relief and comedy to situations where she also created her own stress and complications. Nothing was as simple as it really should have been, because Tegan just worried about Gemma and her friend’s reactions, and the impacts actions would have on all of them if secrets came out. In being blackmailed, she handled it pretty well on top of everything else she was finding strange.
When she went home, the way her parents were behaving left Tegan a little on edge, especially as she was already working so hard not to let slip about her and Gemma’s relationship for fear of their reaction. She also bumped into old acquaintances to add to the drama, and made some new friends. As usual these new characters brought all the fun and quirkiness I expect from T.B’s wonderful characters. Like Tegan, her new acquaintance, Cuddy, added to the mix of commotion and had his own part to play in the big mess Tegan found herself in this time.
I really enjoyed this season and cannot wait to learn what the next one brings for Tegan and Gemma.
I didn't notice that this was part two of a series, but I don't think it matters that I didn't read the others. Sweet in part. A fair amount of steamy scenes. And a lot of getting into trouble for no real reason. Talking would help but they are yougsters as though that excuses everything.
It meanders alot so I skimmed a fair chunk from around the 50% mark. I generally like Markinson's approach to ordinary and everyday life, but in first person this narrator sounds exactly like the others. I think on this occasion I could have done with something different.
This book picks up moments after the previous one ends with a minor cliff-hanger (which of course is the reason I started reading this within moments of finishing the previous volume).
Much of what I wrote about the goodness of "Season 1" carries over into this book. So for more background, you can check my review of that... There's a lot more suspense here in Season 2. We see more of Tegan's parents with all the angst that entails because they don't know she's in love with her "room mate". And Mom sets her up on a date with a male. That acquaintance also leads to some other unpleasant revelations down the road. There's a plot thread involving infidelity (of a friend, not G or T), and a diary. So there's some moral / ethical ambiguity happening here, but there are also thoughtful life lessons. Along the way I glowed with fuzzy happiness when I learned (through what could be described as a minor oratory) that Gemma shares my political leanings.
Oh, and the pair of love birds are getting more experimental with their bedroom activities. So you might want to hesitate before diving in if you're going to be shocked by cameras, bright lights, and focused close-ups in the boudoir.
The author has a nice cast of characters and situations going on here, so I hope she keeps it up. Probably there's at least a few more seasons forthcoming because the first two seasons of G-and-T only cover their first year in college. Yes, I can hardly wait for Season Three. I'll probably binge it like I did these.
As with Season 1, the writing is clear, and the editing is good. Unlike the previous volume, I found a small number of typos in this one, but I'll bet they're just because the proof readers got so excited by the ongoing suspense they forgot they were supposed to be red-lining.
I'm not too fond of angsty romance, regardless of gender. But most romances are with young people who have little experience or self-esteem to bring to the table. Somehow most of us grow up going through it. It wasn't fun then, and it is sometimes excruciating to read about. I think I am alone in this thought pattern as romances of all kinds seem to flourish in books and movies. It is just the mechanism of two people learning to live with each other. That part I find interesting. Not the does she, does he love me. But how can I make their life better?
Add in new friends and their traumas or dramas, and the angst grows exponentially. And in this book, two lots of problems start growing. Luckily, I have grown to love the characters and watching their growth. I love hearing the thoughts of what I can do to help them through this from multiple levels.
This was the hardest book of the series for me. But this middle book can't be skimmed through. In book three, the characters need to learn their lessons and move on to a more adult way of life. Yes, I am already halfway through that book. I am proud that they struggled and matured in book two to set up an even better next book.
I love best how the secondary character calms and reasons with our main character and was a voice of reason for what readers may be going through themselves. She gives such excellent advice and yet helps the love stay in front of all the relationships a person deals with, parents, grandparents, family friends, etc. This book points out how no one is an island. You have to include who raised you and who you've become and portray that to others. I don't know many books that include that kind of wisdom.
*I received a review copy, but I also purchased a copy because this series is great!
Girl Love Happens Season Two by T.B. Markinson kept me just as enthralled as the first season. Tegan’s antics frequently made me chuckle—and sometimes cringe. I enjoy Tegan because she’s a goofy person with a good heart, and her naivety makes her an endearing character. Gemma is much more confident in life and love than Tegan is, but she uses that confidence to help build others up, which made me love Gemma. She genuinely cares about her friends, and although she likes to tease Tegan, it’s always in a good-natured way. One of the things I really enjoy about Markinson’s books are that they often go beyond the getting together of the couple and delve into the ups and downs of the relationship. This is true of this season of Girl Love Happens as the romance between Gemma and Tegan is fairly well-established, but there are many obstacles to happily ever after for them. The drama of friends and family, the complications and pleasures of a new relationship, and the difficulty of learning to be an adult are all dealt with in a very realistic way in Girl Love Happens. As someone who grew up in the 90s, I loved that these books are set in that time period. I was hooked by the great characters and the realistic setting, not to mention the hot love scenes! I highly recommend reading Girl Love Happens.
GLH happens to be one of my favourite Lesfic series, as do G & T. These girls and their college friends are very entertaining and I love the Retro feel of these stories. Markinson has a wicked sense of humour and I often found my self laughing out loud at the things going on in Tiny T's mind.
There is drama galore and plenty of laughs as the girls head into their second year of college. There are some new faces and some sizzling hot chemistry between Gem and T. We get to see a deeper side of them as they are begin to mature and their love deepens. Another great series Ms Markinson, let's hope we get to read more soon. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️❤️it.
First, I reread season one. Then, I read season two and the prequel. Now to those who haven't begun the series, you are missing out. Please read. Gramma and Tegan better know as G&T are so cute. The attraction is real. One discovers a little late that she's bi. But oh what a story. Then read about Jenny, April, and the Denise Huxtable look alike. What a cast. T.B. you have indeed found your calling. I don't want to give away much. But please begin to read the series in order. Ready for season three. I am a ARC reader.
The characters are true to my life & the 'drama's of those adolescent hormones can't be ignored for good or ill. But love happens that should last a lifetime. Life of friends & family continue to orbit the couple & cause highlights & low lights.
Their studies continue amidst the mayhem of those they love falling in & out of love & discovering how hard & cruel life can be. Through it all their love holds them together & helps them to have care & compassion for themselves & others. Now that's love
This book continues the story of Tegan & Gemma. I really like these two, even though at times I want to pull Tegan aside and figure out what in the world is thinking about some of the decisions she makes.:) Then I remember, she’s still so very young. Gotta love her though! Some interesting turns happen with their old friends, new acquaintances (Dr Feelgood) and family that left me wanting to know more. Can’t wait for the next in the series and hopefully it comes soon!
Two young, college women fall in love and try to figure out the rest as they go along. I really enjoyed the two main characters, Tegan and Gemma, both very likeable and distinct. Lots of heat and relationship building. The supporting characters are fun and genuinely feel like friends. The whole story world made me feel like I was back in my college days and all of its drama. I look forward to the next books in the series.
I swear, this series got better every book— especially considering how high the bar was set with the first one!! But, T.B. Markinson delivered… as usual. I just need season 3 cause I'm praying that this wasn't the conclusion because the characters' lives are still left in an unresolved limbo of uncertainty. (& I still need… WANT DESPERATELY… to continue following their lives, endeavors, journeys & futures of their stories!)
Gemma and Tegan's story continues - a new threat appears on the horizon, but love will survive. At times, TB Markinson's writing is so engaging, I wonder when she will try her hand at thrillers. She is a master at building tension and expectation and does not overplay her hand by making the climax overly dramatic and far-fetched. Another winner to join the other TB Markinson stalwarts on my bookshelf.
T.B. Markinson’s Girl Love Happens Season Two lives up to Girl Love Happens Season One. This book picks up where Season One left off; Gemma and Tegan’s summer and second year in college encompasses meeting new friends, an intervention, family relationships, and their own relationship. I can’t wait for the third season of this series.
Markinson develops exceptional characters with depth and personality, strength and weaknesses. As the story takes many turns, the dialogue keeps you engaged and entertained by the interaction between Gemma and Tegan, and their friends and family. A seamless sequel to Season One. If I have only one complaint, it is that it ends too suddenly, and I have to wait for Season Three.
The second season of the G&T series might be better than the first. There is more character development, for the leading ladies as well as several supporting characters, and a few plot twists to keep things interesting.
I really enjoyed this story. The characters are divers and sympathetic. I had given 4 stars but realized that I was searching for the sequel (it may not have been written yet). And the twists, the humor, the conflicts ... no, it deserves 5 stars.
I loved this book. I love tegan and gemma story and they make a great couple . Hope Jenny gets her life together . Don't know how I feel about Bernie . Can't wait to read book 3
I've fallen in love with Tegan and Gemma, and the interesting characters of characters surrounding them. I'm looking forward to reading much more of their story from the very talented TB Markinson. Her books are worthy of your must read list.
I love the characters in this series, and how they handle the hardships (and good times) life always throws or way. I'm invested in these characters and want to continue seeing them grow.
It is hard growing up to adulthood and the girls are finding this out through life’s trials. I am enjoying Tegan and Gemma”s travel through college. The story follows season one and cannot wait to read season Three. Wow love this story
I have really enjoyed reading this book. I can't help but picture myself and a lot of other people in Gemma and Tegan's shoes. Though set in the 90s the perspective is still very valid.
Gemma and TJ are now roommates in an off campus apartment and they love it. Things are getting complicated and their friends are adding to the mix. However their love for each other and their hearts are still entwined. An erotic romance about growing up.
Book 2 was good, still Tegan is crazy I try to remember she is 19 and is still growing but makes bad choices and says crazy stuff, and Gemma is still kind and understanding and loyal. Does Gemma have a breaking point
Not bad but somewhat boring with a lot of everyday worries of 19 year olds. Though with one of the sex scenes I tought: hey now, those girls are only 19! Also: there is no completed ending at all. It seems like you're on the end of a chapter and then it just turns out to be over. 3+⭐️
Great read. The ending of season two really had me wanting more. Bernie and Jenny drama made me mad, but it turned around once it came out Jenny had a problem. Great book!
