Drawing is absolutely gorgeous, but with writing I have love/hate relationship. Most of the time it seems panels are just filling the word count, yet those others work brilliantly. Some scenes evoke the feeling of watching a Hollywood blockbuster which is Bec's specialty, after all.

P.S.

I know prosthetic blade look cool, but nobody is using them for everyday walking. Especially not through deep snow. Those are meant for running.

SO now the situation is starting to become a little clearer although in so doing the past and the present clash - with disastrous results.

I find it interesting that the early books introduced more and more mysteries without answering the ones already present and now as the series draws to a close (there are still 3 more books to go though) they are revealing their secrets at a great rate. This maybe due to the various storylines drawing together but my fear is that they will peak too soon and the series stall before the end - I guess reading will see.

The pace and action is still being kept up and the jumping from past present and future stories is starting to get less jarring as I will admit that it is something that does annoy me.

This is the 2nd of the Origins Series, 7th of the Carthago Series. It is kind of fascinating how the author retcons information from the first five graphic novels to fit the current thread. Thematically it works but it is a bit dizzying.

We learn more about Donovan and Feiersinger. The later is still a rather unlikable character. The former wavers between good and bad, based partly on how far he will go for his employer/master and exactly where his "line in the sand" is. Definitely interesting dynamics.

Plot wise, this follows Atlantean mythos rather than exploring different cryptids with each issue. Pec keeps some of the major threads of Atlantis' legendary mega civilization and add a bit of his own. Again, interesting. As it the aboriginal tribesmen and shamanic links.

The art is, as always nicely done. The plot is a bit tangled, but it can be followed.

I got this comic via a Humble Bundle and as I am a bit lazy when it comes to writing reviews this year, I am going to write one review for the entire series.

These comics remind me - the story, the storytelling and the artwork (the characters move a bit stiffly) - of the adventure comics I read during the seventies and eighties (Bob Morane for example). They also have a European feel: the locations, the artwork, no superheroes, and occasionally a bit of nudity.

They feel a bit dated, but as adventure comics go, I enjoyed them. The stories revolve around the Centenarian of the Carpathians and his aides, mainly London Donovan, who search/hunt the world for weird and often very dangerous creatures.

Read in French because hoopla didn’t have en anglais... opening montage of Megalodons reeking havoc across world; a bit of Lou’s origin story & Lou —completely out of the blue— shows others her gills for the first time. After seven volumes.

Still no idea how Kim met her fishman-beau; finally Bertrand spews what he saw—fish people & the monoliths & a voice in his head saying there’s another place (?!); B tells Lou about Greenland shark’s longevity; to Alaska to the sanctuary...
