All Maggie Jones wants to do is sell her late father’s property and get out of Whitehaven, Texas as fast as possible—before she runs into the one man she’s spent the past six years avoiding. Someone has other plans for her, though. Sinister plans. And when a seemingly harmless act of vandalism turns into a series of menacing threats, she has no choice but to turn to last person on earth she wants to see for help. Sheriff Cody Smith never expected to see Maggie again, especially after he’d broken her heart all those years ago. Maybe this is the second chance he’s always wanted. But when he realizes Maggie’s in grave danger, he intends to keep her safe at all costs. With lines from an old nursery rhyme as their only clue, he needs to find out who’s behind this deadly game before the rhyme ends and Maggie’s time runs out. Can he protect her, catch the bad guy, and make amends for past wrongs? Or will old wounds get in the way?
I can’t even say how many times I rolled my eyes. The new Sheriff, Cody, broke up with Maggie 6 years ago before she left for college. She doesn’t describe her abandonment nor whine about being hurt a couple times. No, it’s many times per chapter. It got old quick.
For every one time Cody used her real name, Maggie, he called her Magpie 40 times...a name he knew she didn’t like. (Someone needs a Dale Carnegie refresher course)
But the plot of all those lame notes? Hokey came to mind a lot. He had innumerable moments with her he could have killed or tortured her, rather than play that inane elaborate game...it just didn’t work.
However, a plus for this book, raising it one star, is the honest faith element. True Christians often brought their issues to the Father.
Sadly I cannot recommend this book. I wish I could just let it go, because to be honest, I re-read this review and it sounds awfully harsh. But I’m an honest reviewer, rarely sugar coat things. And when a book makes me roll my eyes as often as this one did, I tend to just come out with it. 😕
(Thanks to Danielle Roberts for catching my error on main character’s name...Cody, not Curt! Error corrected)
This is the first book I have read by this author which I won as giveaway on Maria’s Muses. Jennifer is a new mystery author to me and I am so happy to have won her book. Hidden Danger is a wonderful page turner written very well. The author does a great job in creating the suspense throughout and keeps the readers guessing till the end. There is an element of romance added to create an extra dimension to the story. I truly enjoyed this book and looking forward to reading more books by Jennifer Pierce.
Suspense grabs at you and pulls you through the twists and turns of this book, This is a well crafted novel featuring Cody and Maggie as they race to find her stalker and find a second chance at love. This book is recommended for those who romantic suspense.
3.5 Stars This is a book where you have to suspend disbelief, because the bad guy is able to circumvent both the county sheriff and every security measure that is presented. I think the book would have been better if the bad guy had been someone else, as the author telegraphed who it would be from the beginning of the book, so there was no surprise. He also knows far too much about the heroine to make the story believable in the thriller plot. As to the romance it was nice and sweet and the faith of the two main characters comes into play. They pray and read the Bible and this is a major plot device for the story. There are some soul shattering kisses, but the story doesn’t move beyond those. The author does have great potential and needs to learn to conceal who the bad guy is better. She did write very likable characters, and a nice romance.
Wow! This is an amazing novel! Hard-hitting suspense and rapid-fire prose mixed with a heartfelt romance, this novel has the ingredients of a bestseller.
Hidden Danger is of Maggie Jones who encounters danger as soon as she returns home to take care of her decreased father's property. Added to that, her ex-boyfriend Cody Smith, who had broken her heart, is now the sheriff. The author does a great job in keeping readers guessing who the villain is in this story as well as adding romance, mystery, second chances, and suspense in the story.
This book truly held my attention and it was difficult to put it down. The action was fast-paced and the clues were thought-provoking. It's a great romantic suspense novel.
I don’t think I even got half way through when I realized that I couldn’t finish it. The main character Maggie is just too stubborn and making stupid decisions. I don’t even care how the love story ends up since I don’t like the heroine at all. Not worth your time. I had hope for a nice clean romance, but this is not it. I’m debating to give the author another chance.
Coming back to fix up the old family home, the greeting on the front door, painted in red “are you ready”, was not what she expected. Money saved for a car, would go to fix the place up and sell. An old love is now the sheriff in town, and she wouldn’t ask anything from him. Cody driving out to try to correct the situation, as she gets a call, telling her ,her boyfriend, one for sorrow, when shots are fired. She didn’t came home to this, and why. Cody and Maggie he will go to any length to protect her, even though she doesn’t want it. The menacing acts continue, and she needs his help, and time spent would it help heal the old wounds. A good suspense, romance book, that keep you interested to find out why.
Knowledge of police procedure informs this excellent novel of terror and love. Somebody --several somebodies--know(s) too much. Every time Maggie and the sheriff think Maggie is safe, the stalker finds them again. How? Why? Pierce knows how much pile threat on threat to make the reader care passionately about the characters. Recommended for all readers of romantic suspense and all forms of suspense.
This is my first book by Jennifer Pierce and it won’t be my last. I thought she did a great job of character development and keeping the story moving along with excitement and intrigue.
This fast-paced story is about Maggie who returns home after her father’s death to clean out the house and get it ready to sell. I am struggling about what else to say, because I like to go into a book with the least amount of knowledge as possible. And anything I say from here on out, in my opinion, will give some things away. Things that I liked discovering for myself. So, I’ll just say that it kept my interest, kept me reading to find out what was going on and there were some surprises for me. I like to be surprised!
Action packed and ready for trouble with romance just around the corner. I love Maggie's strength and independence, not to mention Cody's love and fierce loyalty. Their strong faith in God never wavered, and love really can be found in the deepest well of darkness.
Maggie's father dies. She comes home to get the house ready to sell. Someone tries to kill her. Ex boyfriend is now the sheriff. Kind of a "You already know what is going to happen" book, but I like an easy read book every once in a while.. There really wasn't any mystery to this book. I just wondered, all the way through it, why everyone was so dumb. It stood to reason just who was doing what. I think Jennifer Pierce is a good writer, she just needs to change her way of writing a bit. Add more mystery and don't tell who done what first.
My mom and I had the pleasure of reading this book. We loved the faith of the characters. Also the romance. It starts off strong and pulls you in. I love Christian romantic suspense novels. Love the characters . Really looking forward to reading her next book.
This book starts with suspense and keeps a steady pace of action and suspense until the end. I figured out who the villain was but didn't know how things would play out. I'm looking forward to reading more from this author.
I love to get lost in a good suspense story and I loved this one! You knew something was coming but never what or when! I had guessed who the stalker was but it didn't detract from the suspense. Already downloaded the next book in this series.
All Maggie Jones wants to do is sell her late father’s property and get out of Whitehaven, Texas as fast as possible—before she runs into the one man she’s spent the past six years avoiding.
Couldn't put this down. Great action, suspense and romance. I love the way the author brought God into everything. I'm looking forward to more from this author.
It was a fun, interesting read. I figured out who was behind the mystery very quickly. It took the whole entire book for the main characters to come to the same revelation.
This was a well-written romantic suspense that had me guessing till the very end! The romance was sweet, but was a bit trite and predictable, which is what prompted the 4 stars instead of 5.
Maggie had returned to Whitehaven to clean out her father's house. He had died two months ago and she and her brother wanted to put the house on the market. Her brother had been sent out of town due to his work. Someone had written graffiti across the house. Maggie began to receive threatening packages. The sheriff turns out to be an old friend of her from six years ago, who walked out of her life and broke her heart. Maggie could not go anywhere with out this person following with more threats. People around her were being attacked and sheriff could not find a safe place to keep her. You will enjoy this story from the beginning to the end, it's full of all kinds of adventures.
