This USA Today bestselling author invites you to the delightful small town of Sweetwater Springs where the magic of Christmas brings two strangers together in this "story you won't forget" (RaeAnne Thayne, New York Times bestselling author).
Christmas is coming to the North Carolina mountains, and the air is fresh and crisp and filled with promise. After the devastating loss of her job in the big city, the small town of Sweetwater Springs feels like heaven to Kaitlyn Russo. She's inherited her grandparents' charming (if a little rundown) bed and breakfast, and it's just the new lease on life she needs. Only "heaven" comes with a catch - and a handsome and completelyinfuriating one at that.
After what he hopes will be a quick trip, Mitch Hargrove wants nothing more than to put his hometown in the rearview mirror. But his plans get derailed when he learns he's now half-owner of the Sweetwater B&B. The fact that he's given only two months to make the inn a success is a huge problem, but it's his pretty - and incredibly headstrong - partner who's the real challenge. With the holiday fast approaching and a grand re-opening looming, will Mitch keep running from the ghosts of Christmas past . . . or will he realize the true gift he's been given?

“You’re a crappy excuse for a Santa,” Mrs. Krespo bellowed from one of the tables. “Though I can see why Mommy was caught kissing Santa under the mistletoe if he looked like you.”
“No kissing and telling, Marvin,” Mrs. Krespo muttered, reaching for her coffee cup. “Kaitlyn doesn’t need to know you got lucky last night.” Mr. Krespo’s face turned beet red. “I didn’t tell her that, Evie.” “Well, you might as well have.” Mrs. Krespo gave her husband an assessing look. “I haven’t danced in years. I forgot how good of a dancer you were. It did things to me.”
“Didn’t he have a pet squirrel for a while?” “That was better than the pet skunk that lasted a day.”
She grabbed a box of Kleenex along with a large bag of chocolates because if you were going to have a pity party, you needed to do it right… She was hoping to find a Hallmark movie and live vicariously through the actors and actresses on-screen. Their problems could be fixed in a two-hour time slot on television.
My Review:
This gentle story was perfectly minted for Hallmark, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see it listed next year as a holiday movie. I enjoyed this sweet, feel good, small-town tale, it was holiday treat with no calories - although I was frequently taunted with mentions of diet-shattering fudge and other culinary delights. The characters were enticing and highly likable while the storylines and writing were entertaining, engaging, and easy to follow with alternating licks of humor and heart squeezes. With her career in tatters, Kaitlyn packed up and left New York City behind and headed toward her inheritance and only hope, which was her grandparents’ run-down B&B in a small North Carolina town. Although she was unpleasantly surprised to learn she had a partner, one she needed to convince to stay and meet conditions of the will within a two-month time frame or she had nothing. And of course her partner was a handsome and rugged Marine who had other plans in the works, no desire to stay, and an unfortunate history to flee. At least he was smart enough to know that when you mess up and need to grovel, bring a puppy.
5 - "Christmas will be here before you know it!" Stars!
Annie got her groove back with the first book in her new Sweetwater Springs series. Christmas on Mistletoe Lane is some of her best writing, and it is a book you want to add to your Christmas TBR.
"Everything changes…"
It’s no secret I am a fan of this authors work, her first series; Hero’s Welcome is one I remember really fondly and hope to have time to re-read at some point in the future, while it’s follow-up; Blushing Bay left me scratching my head somewhat in that it just didn’t have the same spark or feel to it as its predecessors. Kaitlyn and Mitch’s story however is up there with the best of them, and I think it was the added sprinkle of Christmas magic that just made it all the sweeter in its reading.
Sharing space with him felt entirely too good, like a warm blanket on a cold, snowy night…
This is a couple pushed together with match-making from the grave, and although both of them are dealing with some heavy personal demons, the author kept the drama that unfolded because of them on the down-low. I liked the plethora of secondary characters we get introduced too as Kaitlyn and Mitch get settled back into small town life, although for Mitch it may only initially be the two months up to Christmas that he is obligated to stay in order to fulfil the terms of Kaitlyn’s grandmothers will.
"Romantic is an understatement for this place."
But working and living in close quarters while trying to get the Sweetwater B&B back off the ground, also opens up other possibilities for this couple on a personal and romantic level, when they both start letting their carefully constructed emotional walls down around each other. But is it enough to make Mitch stay? especially as the reason for his long absence previously is something he has to face head on if he wants to make his life in Sweetwater a more permanent arrangement.
"For such a brave man… you always seem to be running..."
A perfect beginning, to the series. Annie has set expectations high for the next book Spingtime at Hope Cottage especially as it is going to give us widower; Tucker Locklear’s story, and I cannot wait to read it!

Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy! Christmas on Mistletoe Lane was an absolute GEM!
I was craving some Christmas-y goodness during the back to school blues, and this book hit the spot! Annie Rains has written one super cute novel that is a definite must read for romance lovers! Especially if you love those Hallmark Christmas movies like I do!
Christmas on Mistletoe Lane is a soft, sweet novel that moves at a fast enough pace to leave the reader breathless. It's a PG-13 novel (suggestive sex, no sexy scenes) that is packed full of romance, angst and Christmas delights! There's also some lovely side plots that give it the Christmas magic we all need (ex. Helping out an ill woman so her family can have a Christmas).
The kooky cast of characters were chalked full of hilarity - The Krespos, Paris (a biker Santa), Kaitlyn and Mitch are just some of the wonderful characters I fell in love with. Annie made them all lovable AND realistic. Each character had their own flaws, but they weren't depressing. The fact that I could easily read this book and see it totally happening in real life was awesome! It felt real enough and left me hooked to every page.
Let's get down to business here: Kaitlyn used to live in New York and be a fabulous Interior Designer. When a famous man ruins her career and shatters her, she returns to Mistletoe Lane to her Grandmother's old bed and breakfast. Her Grandmother recently passed away and left the ownership to her and a former marine, Mitch Hargrove. They work together to get the business back up and running, and slowly fall in love... Obviously, her Grandmother had more in mind for her than she realized!
This matchmaker side of the story was actually really cute! Sure, it's a trope that is used often but Annie used it well! There were so many little hints along the way that pushed these two lovebirds together, and I'm so glad this book ended WITHOUT a cliffhanger. The story felt finished, but I'm sure Annie will be able to continue their story in part in the sequels.
I really enjoyed this book. Mitch was a "broken" man who slowly finds his way back to his home town (and into a new job, post-Marines). On the other hand, Kaitlyn was a strong-willed woman who's working on getting stronger. Having these two together, bumping heads a bit, was a fun story! I definitely want to read more by Annie Rains in the future, especially this series! She makes a story full of ups and downs, but still utterly positive!
Five out of five stars!

“So.” Mr. Garrison clapped his hands together. “Congratulations, you two. Looks like you'll be business partners.”
Inheriting her grandmother's Bed and Breakfast in Sweetwater Springs, North Carolina is going to give Kaitlyn the opportunity she needs to get a fresh start. She's just been fired from her interior decorator job in New York because of a famous action movie star and she's ready for the change of pace. Unfortunately, she's just learned that she only inherited half. Mitch has just gotten out of the Marines and waiting to start a security job in Virginia when the lawyer for the recently passed neighbor woman he used to help with odd jobs, tells him he needs to talk to him. After a car accident he feels responsible for, paralyzed a local teen, he's respected the wishes of the family that he not be in town, why he left at eighteen, so when he learns that he's inherited half of the B&B, he wants to sell. Kaityln's meddling grandmother, though, made the stipulation that they must work together for two months or the inn goes to charity. Mitch has somehow let Katilyn talk him into staying for the two months and suddenly being a grumpy loner is losing its appeal.
He was temporary, and she wasn't looking for a relationship.
Christmas on Mistletoe Lane starts off the Sweetwater Springs series and readers get to know a whole cast of characters. I thought there was going to be some sweet tension between Kaitlyn and Mitch as they worked to repair the B&B but Kaitlyn redecorating and Mitch fixing, for the most part, happens off page and not much time is spent on it. I liked the set-up but Kaitlyn and Mitch's romance was more of the “I find you attractive.” “I find you attractive.” and then sleeping together but all those scenes were fade to black. So, instead of cute forced proximity tension, we get fade to black bedroom scenes and two ships passing in the night as Kaitlyn does some cooking, some genial dealing with people staying at the inn and Mitch worrying about his mother's health, wanting to get out of town before he runs into the guy that got paralyzed in the accident, and helping out at the police department.
And she absolutely was not going to kiss him again tonight.
Even though a lot of the story takes place at the B&B, I felt like the ambiance of this old Victorian home wasn't brought out enough. I mean, it was like 70% in when it was suddenly brought up that the house had a ballroom, how did I not know there was a ballroom! This could tie-in to me expecting a lighter, fun story of Kaitlyn and Mitch repairing the inn, instead of the more Kaitlyn dealing with some fear trauma over her sexual harassment and attempted assault by her former Hollywood actor client and what chased her out of NY and Mitch worried about his mother's health and still dealing with guilt over car accident.
“Where are we going?” she asked---not that she cared. There was a sudden urgency in his movements as he pulled her towards the exit. “To settle this thing between us once and for all.”
Since Mitch grew-up in the town, it's through him that we get introduced to a couple male characters that will certainly star in future books in the series, Kaitlyn's bestfriend Josie from New York will probably show up later, too. The secondary characters were good, they introduced us to the town without feeling like they were clogging up the story. There was a little holiday flavor with some Christmas tree hunting, festival, and mistletoe but I was disappointed with how Christmas Eve and Day didn't really feature as those days came at the end of the book.
“I have traveled the world looking for a place where I could feel whole again. Never in a million years did I think that would be right back where I started.”
Kaitlyn was focused on more in the first half and Mitch got more focus in the second, separately they were pretty well defined characters, it was together and their romance that I felt was lacking. This is probably another personal gripe but putting an adorable puppy on the cover and then not having the puppy come into the picture until the last fifteen pages was pretty disappointing. Mitch breaking things off in a little bit of a fit of temper and then waiting until the last ten pages to make right and, in my opinion, not delivering the apology he needed to, instead simply going with an “I love you.” only, gave kind of a dull ending that even the epilogue couldn't bring up. This first in the series just didn't have the magical, light, sweet, or emotional tone or vibe I personal like in holiday reads, but, I did think the series baiting characters have potential to draw readers back to Sweetwater Springs for future romances.
This book was exactly what I needed to kick off the holiday season. I know fall is just around the corner, but it’s this time of year when I like to cozy up with a good book and fall in love with the holidays all over again. That is exactly what Christmas on Mistletoe Lane by Annie Rains is–– a book about two people facing a massive change in their lives via the inheritance of a beautiful old bed-and-breakfast. Although this place needs some heavy TLC, these two characters, Kaitlyn and Mitch, will do their best to make it work while falling in love in the process.
I found Christmas on Mistletoe Lane to be sweet, fun, and adorable; and even though it’s fade-to-black, there is still heat within the pages. I can’t wait for you guys to find out for yourself when it releases on September, 25th. So do yourself a favor. Grab this book and dream of a Christmas where love is in the air.
I havent read many Christmas books in my life but of the ones that I have read, this one was by far my favorite. It read just like and gave me all the feels of a Hallmark Christmas movie, and those who know me know that im crazy obsessed with Hallmark movies. I definitely recommend this book for getting you into the Christmas spirit.
After losing her job for unjust reasons, the news that she inherited her grandmother's bed-and-breakfast is very timely for Kaitlyn Russo. But she didn't expect to have to share ownership with a man she only saw in pictures when he was a kid and her grandma took care of him after school.
When Mitch Hargrove come back to Sweetwater Springs for the will, he doesn't intend to stay and he's got good reasons for not wanting it. He'd be happy to sell his half to Kaitlyn, but there's a catch: they must run the place together for two months or the inn goes to charity. Even if it'ld not bother Mitch, at the end of the day he wouldn't be able to break her heart. So for the next few weeks, Mitch will handle the repairs while she take care of the rest.
Before reading the book, I was charmed by the cute cover and the whimsical title. During my reading, I was charmed by the author's writing style and the way she tackle serious subjects without losing the lighter vibe that comes with small town romance. I also enjoy that even if the story is set during the Holidays, it doesn't take all the space. Loved the idea for the rooms' names and the cast of quirky and perplexing customers added to the enjoyment. After reading the book, I want to read the other ones.
Warning! This book will jumpstart your holiday spirits.
Directions: Take one cup of hot cocoa or cappuccino, 3 or 4 homemade baked cookies with you to your couch. Be sure to be wearing your cozy pajamas and think slouch socks. Turn on Christmas music quietly. As soon as you get on the couch, drape that cozy blanket over you and pick this book up and start reading. Turn off your phone and as an optional do not disturb sign for your door will do. What can I say? This book was perfect to get me started in mood for Christmas! This book had me giggle, smile, chuckle, and sigh with contentment . I actually thought it was going to be one of those cheesy Christmas novel but I was wrong. There were some delights in there. I love it when I'm glowing and thinking about Christmas at the end of the book! Whoever wants to get into Christmas needs to follow my direction with this book! I received this sappy, wonderful, fuzzy warm feeling ARC from Net Galley and Forever (Grand Central Publishing) in an exchange for my honest review. Thank you!
As suspected when I saw the cover and read the summary of this book, this novel was the perfect read leading up to Christmas.
From the quaint, small-town Southern town to the relatable and lovable characters, everything about this story was addicting and easy to dive into. With no time at all, I was over halfway through the book and not wanting the story to end.
The chemistry between the two main characters was....delightful, to say the least. If I could add one thing to my Christmas list let that item be named Mitch, I mean seriously, where I can sign up for one?!
If you want a quick, yet heartwarming Christmas read, definitely pick this one up and I doubt you will be disappointed. It will get you in the Christmas spirit while also making you want to pick up your life and head to the farthest small-town Bed and Breakfast that you can find for an adventure that awaits.

So a couple of months ago I read the second book in this series and I loved it enough to go back and read the first one and I’m so glad I did! This one was just as sweet and fun as Springtime at Hope Cottage with the added bonus of being set during the holidays ❤️🎄🎅🏼 If you’re looking for an adorable holiday read with authentic characters and all the warm and cozy feelings this is a good choice! Book three is set during the holidays and I’ll be be reading it ASAP as I can’t wait to see what happens in Sweetwater Springs next.
Christmas on Mistletoe Lane is the debut novel in Annie Rains’ new Sweetwater Springs series. I adore reading Annie Rains novels because she creates interesting, relatable characters and unique, emotional stories for them. Kaitlyn Russo and Mitch Hargrove learn they have inherited the Sweetwater B&B from Kaitlyn’s grandmother. Mabel Russo’s will stipulates that Kaitlyn and Mitch have 8 weeks to get the B&B up and running and they must run the inn together. The unusual provision in Mabel’s will intrigued me and drew mw into the story. Grandmother Mabel’s inheritance is the answer to Kaitlyn’s prayers. She left her job after a client made unwanted advances towards her and desperately needs a fresh start. Kaitlyn needed the B&B to be successful. I love how running the inn, becoming a member of the Sweetwater community and connecting with her guests restored her confidence. Mitch worked for Kaitlyn’s grandparents and isn’t sure if the B&B can be restored or if they can even afford to pay for the inn’s upkeep. Mitch spends time with his mom and reconnects with his high school friends. Annie Rains writes great military heroes; I adored Mitch Hargrove. His transformation from a broody ex-marine to an important member of the Sweetwater community was flawlessly written. Annie Rains is an amazing story teller—her descriptive voice and her honest, emotional dialogue draws you into the story. I could picture Mitch and Kaitlyn picking out the Christmas tree for the inn, Mitch teaching Kaitlyn to cook and the couple falling in love as they worked together to restore the inn. I adored the attraction between Kaitlyn and Mitch, the B&B guests and their stories, the importance of community in the town and the secondary characters of Alex, Tuck Cassie and Kyle. Mitch’s conflicting emotions and career decisions play an important role in the story. The last few chapters of the novel are perfectly paced, emotional and very romantic as Mitch realizes the true spirit of Mabel’s gift. If you are looking to read a holiday story full of second chances, romance and magic, pick up a copy of Christmas on Mistletoe Lane. It’s got all the feels—and a fabulous holiday message.
SWEET FIRST IN A SERIES THAT MADE ME WANT TO CONTINUE
I was only looking for a sweet Christmas romance. But I think I just found a new series to read. There was so much to like with this book and it set up the next in the series so well with how it introduced the side characters. So sweet and lovable.
👍 What I Liked 👍
Wholesome: It isn't usual for me to call a book wholesome, but I cannot think of a better word for this book. It was just so sweet and... yeah... wholesome!
Characters: Out two main characters Mitch and Kaitlyn were two really great characters, but they were only a part of it. This is such a great ensemble book, with an amazing cast of people from the Sweetwater Springs town. It really sets up the next books in the series perfectly.
Sweetwater Springs #1, I've said it before I'll say it again, I love it when a new series starts with a Christmas book. This was an easy romance not a lot of external conflict just the characters coming to terms with their situations, Jacob has something from his past he needs to let go of and Kaitlyn has to deal with her seemingly unsupportive parents. Written in duel third person POV between Kaitlyn and Jacob you get a good insight into each of their characters and where they are coming from mentally.
It was happenstance Kaitlyn was fired from her dream job for something that wasn't her fault and Jacob's job was put on hold until after the New Year and them both inheriting the Sweetwater Bed and Breakfast. Kaitlyn's grandparents ran the B&B for as long as she could remember the summers she spent there were some of her favorites. The Russo's were always nice to Jacob and his mother giving him odd jobs to do during the school year and always making him feel welcome. But Mabel Russo was always a bit of a meddler and she stipulated in her will that both Kaitlyn and Jacob had to run the B&B for two months before they could sell it or else it would go to charity. Kaitlyn saw this as her second chance and Jacob just wanted out of Sweetwater Springs and never look back but for two months he could do it. The attraction between Kaitlyn and Jacob was pretty much instantaneous but Jacob has no plans on staying and Kaitlyn wasn't leaving so a fling between the two was just the thing they need to burn through the attraction and then go their separate ways. Easier said than done.
Overall, this was a really good romance. It is not explicit, all the stuff that happens in the bedroom is left to your imagination. The main focus is the building of the their relationship with each other, their parents and with the community, and with Jacob reconciling with his past. It's a great intro to this series and it's quirky cast of characters.
Good fucking hell! Stop writing about Marines if you cannot get even the basics right. He's not even active duty but every damn other word is how he was a marine, in the marines, marine life taught him, being in the corps, he's an ex-marine.
It's all fucking wrong! You sound like an absolute idiot.
ALWAYS capitalize Marines. Branch or individual. And an ex-Marine? That's someone who's been dishonorably discharged.
It's just ridiculous. And comes across as someone using Marines in a storyline because they're "sexy/trendy" in the romance community right now. Even mentioning the Marines during a sex scene is absurd. Even worse when you don't capitalize it...yet again. ~~~~ And now that I'm finished I'm still annoyed that this author couldn't once get Marines right. Nope. They're marines, marine, the corps, ex-marine. Dozens of times. Not once right. And it was all completely unnecessary. This character didn't come across as someone who was in the military at all. The only thing that indicated military was the author's incessant and incorrect use of the name Marine.
It was a cute story for the most part other than that. I do love the whole bringing an inn back to life and I liked the characters well enough as well as their situation of being forced into co-renovating/owning an inn together. But seriously every dang other word it seemed she was saying "marine" or some variation. It's also PG with some kissing and acting like there's gonna be a sex scene and then skipping to the next day. That's fine sometimes and if a book is well written I don't mind but it needed it here. The hero's reason for staying away from his hometown and mom for so long had me rolling my eyes, too. He could have saved himself years of angst if at any time a best friend or his mom had just told him the outcome of something in his past or he'd bothered to listen to them. So, yeah. It had potential but Christmas on Mistletoe Lane left me more annoyed than satisfied.
Absolutely adorable, sweet, small town, Christmas, romance story.
Kaitlyn Russo finds herself in the small town of Sweetwater Springs after losing her interior design job in NYC. She’s inherited her grandparents bed & breakfast & is ready for the fresh start. But there’s a catch that involves the swoony Mitch Hargrove. Mitch grew up in Sweetwater but made a promise after one life changing night to never return for good. Together they have 2 months to get the bed & breakfast on Mistletoe Lane up, running & making money, then Mitch is gone.
This book needs to be made into a Hallmark Christmas movie! I love nothing more about the holidays then the feel good, sweet, holiday, romance books & Hallmark movies. What I love most about them (other than the romance) is the settings. I want to live in the small towns that I see in the movies or picture in my head while reading these stories. This book made me want to live in Sweetwater Springs & hang out with Kaitlyn, Mitch & the rest of the loveable town. Christmas on Mistletoe Lane had me so invested in the characters, town & relationship. Not to mention I now have a major book crush on Mitch! If you enjoy real, relatable characters, small towns with all the lovable residents, sweet romances with a touch of mystery, this is one book you won’t want to miss this holiday season! This story literally had everything I could want all wrapped up into one lovely book. I’m now impatiently awaiting book #2. I’m pretty sure Christmas on Mistletoe Lane will need a re-read closer to the holidays.
“What can I say? I’m a man. We like to hunt & gather.” Something about that made Kaitlyn’s blood heat. He was a man, for sure. Big and strong, doing exactly what he was made to do. And she absolutely was not going to kiss him again tonight.
As far as I’m concerned it’s never too early to read a Christmas story! This weekend I decided to crack open my first holiday read for the season and it was a such a feel good holiday read. Kaitlyn is looking for a fresh start after leaving New York. Mitch is forced to come back to his hometown when this is the last place he wants to be. I loved Kaitlyn so much, her character was a spitfire and she held no punches. After everything she has gone through she still has a selfless heart and loves to help people. Mitch was so broken and broody. As much as he tried to hide his soft side he couldn’t help it when it came to his mom and Kaitlyn. When you hear his backstory it all makes sense. The book setting takes place in a small town and for some reason I love small town holiday reads the most. I guess it’s because I’m from a big city. The story was centered around the BnB and I loved the diverse set of characters I met while reading. The secondary set of characters were well written and honestly it felt like I was among old friends. This was a wonderful holiday story about taking chances, forgiveness and being with the ones you love. This book had EVERYTHING I love in a holiday read and I highly recommend this story to get you in the spirit!
Shelly's Book Corner received a review copy from NetGalley and voluntarily provided an honest review. This does not affect the opinion of the book or the content of the review.
I truly enjoyed this fun holiday read which kicks off a new series from this author. It is wonderfully written with some pretty amazing characters. Kaitlyn Russo comes home to Sweetwater Springs after her job and life in the city implodes. With her Grandmother's recent passing she expected to inherit the family b&b. What she didn't expect is the rundown condition the place was in or the fact that she had to share ownership with Mitch Hargrove. Mitch just wants to sell the place and be done with it but the conditions of the will don't allow for that. Since he has two months to kill before his new job starts he agrees to stay and help get the old place up and running again. Never did he expect the bossy Kaitlyn to get under his skin and have him rethinking his future. I highly recommend this one.
I loved this story that tugs at all the heartstrings and is the perfect holiday read. A beautiful story about how two wounded people find each other. Awesome read!
3.5 STARS If you’ve been thinking, I’d like to watch a Hallmark Christmas movie, but I also want to read a book, you should pick up Christmas on Mistletoe Lane by Annie Rains. This story follows Kaitlyn and Mitch, two strangers, both at a crossroads in their lives, who suddenly find themselves co-owners of an old inn in North Carolina.
This story had every cute, if slightly hokey, Christmas romance theme I love. The rundown inn Mitch and Kaitlyn need to restore together, small town charm with a cast of quirky, yet lovable, characters, and a few conflicts that only make the eventual happily ever after that much sweeter. One of my favorite parts of this story was actually Mitch and Kaitlyn’s relationship (one Mitch pulled his head out of the sand). I thought their easy friendship and chemistry was believable and sweet.
There were a few parts that made me roll my eyes, I mean, there was a “villain” for maybe 2.5 seconds and every conflict is resolved within a few pages. Some parts were a little too sweet for me, especially at the end. I also wanted to kick Mitch in the butt occasionally and I think Kaitlyn should have made him grovel a little bit more for being a jerkface. But this is a Hallmark movie in book form, so I’ll forgive it.
Overall, this was a sweet, easy read that made me want to go rent a romantic room in a cute little inn. If you let yourself let go of reality for a few hours, and just get swept away by holiday cuteness, you’ll love this story.
**I received an ARC of this book in order to provide an honest review**
Absolutely loved this book. If all her books are written in this style, I could read every last one of them. This is the story of a woman ( through circumstances beyond her control), finds herself without a job in the big city of New York. She has recently inherited a B&B in the small town of Sweetwater Springs, NC and decides that a move from the big city might be the best thing for her anyway. What she doesn't realize is that she is not the only one who inherited the B&B. She will have a business partner that will share equally in the ownership of her grandparent's inn. A very charming story. I don't re-read a lot of books, but this is one I plan to read again next year around the holidays.
Christmas on Mistletoe Lane (Sweetwater Springs #1) by Annie Rains
Rains was blessed with an empathetic voice that shines through each character she writes. Christmas on Mistletoe Lane is the latest example of that gift. Kaitlyn and Mitch tackle heartache with an appealing dose of reality and an abundance of heart. That's what makes this journey of false starts and new beginnings relatable. Mistletoe Lane is about rebuilding trust in the people around you and the person we're all meant to become. It's a celebration of the lessons that help a person grow.Copyright of Night Owl Reviews
Decided to DNF after reading 80% of the story. I just could not connect with either main character! It lacked any sort of depth. I need more from the story than just 2 characters forced together by a circumstance and waiting until one leaves the town to realized they love the other person and they come back to be together. It’s a typical Christmas romance story, but it was flat and I lost interest for sure.
Christmas on Mistletoe Lane is the perfect book to get you into the holiday spirit. The main characters both inherited half of a bed and breakfast. They both are working on second chances. I had fun visiting the town of Sweetwater. It won me over. I can’t wait to get the chance to visit again.
This was a sweet, satisfying Christmas romance. I enjoyed the small-town setting, and Kaitlyn and Mitch were a fun couple. Loved the preview of book 2, as well - can't wait for Josie's and Tuck's story!
Characters you'll love, a hero to swoon for, gorgeous mountain setting, and plenty of Christmas spirit - what more could you want?! I adore everything about this book!
It's the start of the holiday season in the North Carolina mountains, and the air is fresh and crisp and filled with promise. After the devastating loss of her job in the big city, the small town of Sweetwater Springs feels like heaven to Kaitlyn Russo. She's inherited her grandparents' charming (if a little rundown) bed and breakfast, and it's just the new lease on life she needs. Only "heaven" comes with a catch-and a handsome and completely infuriating one at that.
After what he hopes will be a quick trip, Mitch Hargrove wants nothing more than to put his hometown in the rearview mirror. But his plans get derailed when he learns he's now half-owner of the Sweetwater B&B. The fact that he's given only two months to make the inn a success is a huge problem, but it's his pretty-and incredibly headstrong-partner who's the real challenge. REVIEW: CHRISTMAS ON MISTLETOE LANE is the first instalment in Annie Rains’ contemporary, adult SWEETWATER SPRINGS romance series focusing on the small town of Sweetwater Springs, North Carolina. This is interior designer Kaitlyn Russo, and retired US Marine Mitch Hargrove’s story line.
Told from dual third person perspectives (Mitch and Kaitlyn) CHRISTMAS ON MISTLETOE LANE focuses on the building relationship between interior designer Kaitlyn Russo, and retired US Marine Mitch Hargrove. The recent death of her grandmother Mable pulled Kaitlyn Russo to the small town of Sweetwater Springs, North Carolina where our heroine inherited her grandmother’s beloved Sweetwater B&B, an inheritance that came with a questionable caveat. Enter retired US Marine Mitch Hargrove, one-time B&B caretaker and friend to Henry and Mable Russo, and the new co-owner of the Sweetwater B&B. A two month ‘obligatory business arrangement ‘ in order to inherit or sell the B&B finds our couple working together to make the small hotel into a thriving business. What ensues is the building relationship and romance between Kaitlyn and Mitch, and the potential fall-out as Mitch struggles with memories of the past, and the perceived sins of a teenaged boy.
Mitch Hargrove wants nothing to do with Sweetwater Springs, a town that brings too many fractured memories of long ago. Aside from him mother, there is nothing and no one that calls to his heart. Preparing for a security assignment in the new year Mitch is surprised to discover that Ms. Mable has ‘arranged’ a two-month assignment of her own. Kaitlyn Russo was a successful New York interior designer but a designer whose career was destroyed by a professional fall-out and the accusations of a celebrity extraordinaire. Hoping to restart her life Kaitlyn is shocked when she is forced to work alongside a man who wants nothing to do with the Sweetwater B&B. If they cannot find a way to work together, the B&B will be sold, and everything will go to charity.
The relationship between Mitch and Kaitlyn begins as a forced business arrangement, an arrangement neither one is happy to oblige. Mitch’s plans do not include running a run-down B&B, and Kaitlyn hopes to rebuild her grandmother’s once-successful business. The sexual attraction between Kaitlyn and Mitch is palpable and immediate. The $ex scenes are intimate, passionate but mostly implied.
We are introduced to the colorful and charismatic people and places of Sweetwater Springs including attorney Jacob Garrison; police chief Alex Logan; Mitch’s mother Gina Hargrove, and aunt Nettie, and longtime friend Tucker Locklear; Fudge Shop owner Dawanda; bookstore owner Julia Kent; Kaitlyn’s best friend and journalist Josie; as well as a number of Sweetwater B&B guests including graphic designer and biker Paris. I am definitely hoping to read a happily ever after for Paris.
CHRISTMAS ON MISTLETOE LANE is a sweet and sexy story line; a small-town romance focusing on two people who lives are interrupted by a meddling but well-meaning old lady. The premise is entertaining, engaging and endearing; the characters are dynamic and lively, especially the B&B guest; the romance is tender and dramatic as Mitch continues to pull away giving mixed signals with every encounter. A wonderful holiday read, CHRISTMAS ON MISTLETOE LANE is a great start to the holiday season.
Kaitlyn Russo thought she had everything she could possibly want in her life, then in an blink of an eye it was all gone, all the hard work she had put into her career felt meaningless at this point. She gave so much of herself to her job, and now that she was jobless she felt completely lost... then divine intervention steps in and she gets a call from North Carolina, one that holds lots of hope and promise. Her grandmother, that recently passed, had left her the B&B her and her husband had ran for many years, and it was now Kaitlyn's, and she couldn't help but be excited to have a second chance given to her; especially one that comes with so many wonderful memories. But once she arrives in Sweetwater Springs she learns that her grandmother had one last miracle to work before she left this earth... hook her granddaughter up with the sweet boy from the down the street. As soon as she meets Mitch Hargrove she knows she is in trouble, yes he is pretty to look at, but he is also stubborn as all get out and he intends to fight her every step of the way with her new plan for the B&B!
When Mitch Hargrove thinks of Sweetwater Springs, he often thinks of the elderly couple who he spent many afternoons with as a child, while his mother was busy working her tail off to make ends meet. The Russo's were like a second family to him for many years, and they often delighted about their granddaughter Kaitlyn, but every time she came to town for a visit he always seemed to be out of town and missed meeting her. Mrs. Russo about to take care of that though, before she passed she decided to leave their B&B to him, but of course it comes with a hitch... he has to share ownership with their granddaughter. He doesn't have time for this little adventure, he's fresh out of the military and ready for the next chapter in his life, and it does not involve taking care of a B&B... or does it?
With the pages of Christmas on Mistletoe Lane readers will find a delightful tale riddled with heart, humor, romance, and of course seasonal tidings that will put them in the perfect mood for the impending holidays! I absolutely adored this one, the story line was well crafted and contained many moments that made me smile, swoon, and put a nice little squeeze on my heart. This pairing came to Sweetwater Springs for very different reasons, but little did they know Mrs. Russo had a little plan in place that would give them both everything they ever wanted, and even something neither set out to find... Love, and boy was it fun to watch them find it! I really enjoyed my first visit to this series, and I am anxious to see what my next visit will bring... if this one is any indication I am sure I will love what I discover. I highly recommend you get your hands on this one it promises to leave your heart happy!
