Alien prison break romance: Forced proximity. Zero privacy. One touch.

Syrin of Forty-Six is a berserker.

Outlawed from Chronos and removed from the Xylan mating database, he’s a fierce warrior with a bloody past. And now he’s a convict, thrown into the most notorious prison in the four sectors.

Since Sara is also an inmate, she can’t exactly judge. And as the only female prisoner on Detention Center: Zeta 149, she really, really needs protection. So when the prison guards throw Sara into a cell with the unstable berserker, placing bets on how long she’ll live, she's willing to trade her virginity if he'll agree to become her protector.

But instead of taking her offer, Syrin lays some ground rules: he’ll never be her pleasure mate, never want her, never desire her, ever. But despite his aura of don’t f*cking bother me, Sara can’t keep her eyes off his bulging biceps and the sexy fangs that peek out from his perfect lips. Sharing a cell with a towering, muscular male who IS NOT attracted to her is sheer torture…but then his bare hand accidentally touches hers…

And all hell doesn't break loose. Instead a Xylan berserker does, and that's much deadlier...and much sexier...

Author’s note: This is book #4 in the series, but can be read as a standalone. Be prepared to meet new friends and revisit old favorites…

Syrin's Mate was a good read. I enjoyed the story and the sexual tension between Syrin and Sara, they had an exceptional chemistry. What I missed was an action, fights, prisoners yelling—you know, that's how I always imagine proper alien prison. Yes, there were some action and fights but it was all too polished, too... boring.
But still, I can't wait to see what happens next.

Intensely enjoyable

This is by far the best book in this series. Action-packed and a steamy HEA! I can’t wait to see what happens in the next book.

First let me state, I received an Advance Reader Copy, (ARC), but this in no way influences my review. I always leave an honest review.

Excellent story. Nothing like a romance in a prison. Syrin, for being such a huge, hunky male, is quiet and reserved, even though he's a berserker. Sara is a spunky human and accused of a murders she didn't commit. She also talks to much. I really enjoyed this story. I recommend this read. 5 Thumbs up.

I did enjoy this fourth book in the series. You don't have to read the other three to understand this book but it does help to understand the continuing story arch that is mentioned in the last chapter. That being said, there were way too many scenes that were very similar to Guardians of the Galaxy. I can't decide if the author is complimenting James Gunn by writing Fanfic or if she is just plagarizing, such a fine line to walk on. Her other three books in this series are unique storylines so I am so confused on why she would copy guardians of the galaxy. Seems like such a rookie mistake and the author is not a rookie.

Alittle disappointed

Let me start by saying this is a good plot and storyline. My issues were the scenes that mimicked a popular movie. It ruins it for me. Would rather it be all original than have these scenes that are like this movie but can't live up to it. Plus there were a couple grammar errors.

How did I miss this ?!!

My thanks to author Michele Mills for the ARC of this book. The opinion voluntarily expressed here is my own. Syrin’s Mate is the fourth novel in the author’s Alien Bounty Hunter series - and the first one I’ve read. I’m familiar with Michele mills writing through her Catastrophe series - the one that made me like futuristic dystopian romances. I had no idea till this showed up that there were three others in the series, or that any of them would be this good. Syrin is a high-caste alien - species Xylan - but a rare genetic flaw has made him an outcast, unwelcome on his home world and forbidden to mate. It seems when he’s triggered by threat or by provocation, he turns into a berserker- a relentless, clawed, fanged, eight-foot killing machine who can’t distinguish friend from foe, and is therefore a threat even to his loved ones. Other than that, he’s the most disciplined, honorable handsome male you could ever meet. Sara meets him in prison - they’re being sent to serve out life sentences on an inescapable prison planet. She’s another outcast, an orphaned bastard dumped on reluctant relatives who make her life hell. She escapes by joining a gang of thieves, becoming an ace IT systems analyst, and then gets framed for murder and sentenced to life. She’s the only female on a planet of lifers - aka Dead Meat. Against all odds, she enlists Syrin as her protector - and the rest of the story is where it gets interesting. Interesting as in slow-burn sexy interesting. As in secret mission and plots within plots interesting. As in scary prisoners out to kill her interesting. Michele Mills is a smart and gutsy writer who isn’t afraid to bust out of some alien SF romance stereotypes. Her characters are deeper than expected, more complex and not exactly perfect, but so likeable you can’t resist caring about them. She can also set up a complex plot with unexpected twists that violate unwritten SF romance norms - and pull it of beautifully. Whatever you think of as typical for this genre, you won’t find it here - you’ll find BETTER! And if, like me, you missed books 1 - 3, relax. This one stands alone just fine, thank you. (Besides, it’s never too late to get into a truly fine writer’s alien bounty hunter-verse.)

I received a copy of Syrin's Mate in exchange for a review, but I would've purchased and reviewed it anyway! I was so excited when I saw Michele was writing a prison break bounty hunter book. I've enjoyed all of her books in this series, and I anticipated this one would bring some new ideas and interesting story points that help it stand out. I was right! One of the things I've always enjoyed about MM's style of writing is her character development. In any book, especially ones coming from indie authors, I think this is what sets the bar. That, and she totally puts you IN the world with scene development - but we can talk about that later.

Her heroes aren't exactly alpha in the traditional sense, but they're foreign and masculine and don't take any grief when it comes to what they want. Typical of a sci-fi romance, sure, but she always inserts a heroine who is relatable and reacts in the way the reader would (or at least I would). Syrin and Sara are in line with all the other couples she's developed. Gruff alien, knows what she wants even when shes scared shitless heroine. Sparks fly. It's a win-win for me.

The other side to the bounty hunter series here is the world development. So often, I think, sci-fi novels have a hastily developed world or plot. The world created in these books is so detailed and hits on social issues we see in the real world while twisting them and making them something unique and crucial to an alien planet. Michele's scene development has always been one of my favorite aspects of her writing, but her style has developed more in Syrin's Mate from her last release. The alien prison thing runs the risk of being stale or trendy, but I think Syrin and Sara make it fun and fresh and offer new roles while still playing on those tropes we all love.

Sara and Syrin

Sara just can't catch a break, her life? Well it sucks. Growing up on New Earth with a dysfunctional family, working as a thief and then she's convicted of a crime she didn't commit AND the guy she supposedly killed was popular AND now everyone in the prison wants to kill her - and that's her life! Sucks!! And in front of her is the most gorgeous alien and he doesn't even acknowledge her! Typical!! Standing up for Syrin she is put into the cell with him. Syrin is a beserker, he is a non citizen, struck off the mating database, destined never to marry, and destined to never have a family. Saving Sara's life, mating compatibility is initiated, and things become VERY interesting!!!!!!!

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this engaging, entertaining and compelling story! There's more horror in this story really capturing the hopelessness of being in a prison, surrounded by death, facing the mob, and survival of the fittest. The imagery is scary and dark! But in that darkness Sara finds hope in the form of not one but three protectors. I really liked how Syrin and Sara's relationship grew slowly as they got to know each other. The story is well written, fast paced, with lots of action, drama, angst, passion, loyalty and danger. Told from dual POVs reveals intimately their thoughts feelings and emotions as they explore their relationship. There's a sweet HEA 💓 and a cliffhanger to peak interest in the next book!!!

Live and Survive💕 or Give Up and Die💀

Human woman Sara💋💻, has been sent to Detention Center Zeta 149 for imprisonment. She is imprisoned with three males, one of them, a huge Xylan Beserker Warrior named Syrin🐺🍆🌋🔪🔫.

Sara wants to touch Syrin🐺🍆🌋🔪🔫 all over! but he is resisting, saying because he's a Beserker, an out of control warrior🐺🔪🔫, he isn't fit to have a mate.

The three males she came to the prison with are associates, even though they are all different species. Syrin of forty-six is a berserker and therefore has been removed from the mating database and outlawed from Chronos. Working as a bounty hunter he is undercover posing as a prisoner in the most notorious prison in the four sectors. There he meets Sara who is also an inmate and is the only female prisoner there she needs to find protection there fast. So when the prison guards throw Sara into the same cell as Syrin and take bets on how long she is going to live she decides to trade her virginity to him for protection. However, instead of accepting her offer, he comes back with ground rules - he will never be her pleasure mate nor desire or want her ever but she has to not touch him. Sara struggles to keep her eyes off his bulging biceps and when he accidentally touches her then all hell doesn't break loose, however, he certainly changes and his berserker is let loose which is more deadly and sexy than anything else. Can they both survive and gain their freedom?

I liked this story which was very dramatic and full of lots of drama and danger. I liked the berserker element and how that added to his determination to not mate with anyone. Sara was sweet and she was never going to last in prison so it was very clever of her to approach Syrin for protection. Well written and easy to read and understand. Contains explicit sexual content.

Great story about two people who have led a hard life full of challenges & being treated unfairly. Sara & Syrin meet during transport to the harshest prison on the four sector. Sara is immediately drawn to Syrin. She’s the only female in the whole prison so she decides to ask Syrin for protection. He declines at first, but also feels the need to protect her so he reluctantly agrees. Sara is in prison after being falsely accused of killing a popular celebrity & Syrin is in prison trying to capture a high value target. Syrin is a beserker so he has been shunned by everyone is not allowed to take a mate. He feels drawn to Sara too, but is careful to keep her at a distance since he is not allowed to mate. How will he keep her safe from a prison full of hostile men & will they be able to escape?
I really enjoy the whole Alien bounty hunters series. This particular book took longer for the characters to discover that they are in fact mates, but it doesn’t take away from the story. I’d recommend this book as well as the whole series. How do you go wrong? A strong alpha male who hasn’t been with another woman & is completely devoted to his mate. Sounds like a perfect guy to me! Looking forward to future books in this series.

This is the first of this series that I have read and due to this book I will be looking for the other ones !!
This is Syrin and Sara's story . It starts as Sara is walking in line on her way to prison . The green lizard like man behind her says he is going to escape this place and soon , so of course she has to look behind her to see who is talking , and sees him and another with horns on his forehead . She is then prodded in the back and stumbles into the man in front of her that she has been drooling over the entire time . ( Just gotta say I love where her hands ended up !! ) I love the way that Sara is a strong woman who is not afraid to say or do what she thinks is right . Now this is not to say that isn't a thief because that whom she has been helping for the last year . But she has learned that she has to depend on herself but is smart enough to know that in prison she will need protection and figures she will ask Syrin . This story then takes off and there are so many things going on here that you will want to read it all without break !! This is well written and recommended . I was gifted this ARC and enjoyed it so much that I decided to leave a review .

Ahh, yassss. I love me an alien prison break romance. Not that this book was, strictly speaking, about a prison break, but there was some breaking out going on so it counts. I guess maybe I'm also smitten with the idea of a berserker who finds a measure of control when his Bride is there to calm him.

You know, let's just go with I like these growly Xylans and their propensity for finding their mates in the most unexpected of places and leave it at that.

Just kidding. I'm not leaving it at that.

Syrin. Big, broody, and ready to go on a rampage under the right circumstances. Sara is...none of those things. She's human and a hacker...excuse me, a "systems analyst" who's been thrown in prison for a crime she didn't commit. Not that anyone's listening when she tells them that. In fact, she's prison enemy number and EVERYBODY wants a piece of her. Sometimes literally.

Their romance might not start out on the best foot (they're both prisoners, for goodness sake), but they figure things out. And, HOLY WHAT IS GOING ON WITH KROGA? I WANT TO KNOW!

It was okay.

What I liked - I like the sort of makeshift family thing going on. I like the network of women that was mentioned a couple times. Sara meeting Jacole was pretty cool. I generally liked Sara and the other major and minor characters. The connections between people and families and the worlds comes together pretty well. Having the books more or less tie place in different locations keeps things interesting.

What I didn't like - There were some mistakes and some other things that didn't quite make sense to me. Cylo Rin? Seriously? That's just bad. And there was one scene that was horrible and disgusting. I don't have to everything be perfect in books, and I understand dark themes, but this was a romance, not a horror or even just a regular sci fi, so I think the actual scene and details should have been left out. I don't always need or want things glossed over, but I read this because it's a romance not because I wanted to have nightmares. The whole Krogo situation has become annoying.

Love under duress is excellent, don't you think?! Ah, maybe that's just me then. I kinda feel that this book was a mix of Guardian of Galaxy vol 1 and Prison Break with a flare of OTT interspecies mating. It was hilarious, smart, thrilling, and romantic in the same time. What I liked the most was how Ms. Mills portrayed the h as smart, capable emotionally strong, and independent while still also acknowledging her shortcomings; she was a treat on her own. Plus, all the smutty scenes, all the straightforward romance-jab lines, and all the building romance tension, the whole rides, definitely gave me a whole squirming treat; a good squirm, I assure you.

Thank you Michele Mills for the ARC copy of this book. All comments are my own.

Having never read the previous 3 books in her Alien Bounty Hunters series, I was able to jump right into the story Michele Mills was expertly crafting without any issues. I instantly connected to the characters, and can't wait to see where she leads us in the next book!

That being said, I had a hard time with the repetition of information provided in the book. When Syrin talks about how a Mate is determined, why they mustn't touch and why he isn't in the Bride registry, no new information was provided and I struggled to understand why the information given again was important to the given scene if the information was already known. I also felt that the end of the book was rushed. There was a lot happening there in regards to the original story line and what I'm assuming will be the lead to the next book.

An awesome adventure!

Sara has been arrested and sent to one of the worst prison in the area to be sentenced to. She is goes through the prison's intake with three others, all male. She is immediately drawn to Syrin, and hopes he will be her protector in prison when she finds out they will be placed in the same cell. He bigger, stronger and everyone fears him, everyone fears Xylans. Sara fears he won't help her because Xylans don't feel attraction to any but their Brides. In a place surrounded by some of the worst criminals in the galaxy, can she convince him to help her stay alive long enough to escape. I wish there was a book five already out, this was a great romance and a quite an adventure.

Good

**Warning! Cliffhanger!**
This book ends in a cliffhanger involving a secondary character, and this crosses paths with the author’s “The Swirl” series… so you might want to line those books up to read!

When a human female, and a Xylan berserker male are assigned to share a cell on a prison planet, who knows what mischief will arise?
He’s there to capture a bounty. She’s been falsely accused, and the only thing keeping her safe is a male who might go berserk at any moment!

An enjoyable trip back into the Xylan universe, with a diverse and interesting cast of characters.
It’s an entertaining storyline, plenty of action and adventure, and a side of romance to boot.

Recommended for those who enjoy sci-fi romance.

I loved this story!!! Syrin and Sara are two of my favorite couples. Sara is strong and overcomes a lot in her life. She is looked down on and treated horribly by her family. She escaped, only to get convicted for a crime she did not commit. On her way to prison, she meets syrin, the xylan, and is immediately attracted to him. The two are put in a cell together and the story unfolds. This story had action, and depth. I love the twist and turns and when finally they are free to be together, it comes together beautifully. There is a lot going on and the next book is set up beautifully.

Syrin of Forty-Six is a berserker and prohibited from mating with anyone. He was considered dangerous and outlawed from his own people. In a prison far away from his people he found the one things he was forbidden to have. He found his mate, Sara. Sara was in a prison far from all she knew. She escaped home only to become imprisoned for a crime she did not commit. To stay alive she was willing to give the one thing of value she had, but Syrin did not want what she was offering.

Michele Mills gave good characters. An intriguing world, plot, and dilemma. I enjoyed the back and forth between Sara and Syrin.

If you enjoy hot aliens and strong women, this is for you!
I am really enjoying this series! The Xylans are a unique race, with many rules for encounters with the opposite sex. Sara’s tough background on a dangerous world have molded her into a very strong woman with lots of smarts to carry her out of that dismal setting. Fate (and a greedy male) place her in prison with a very dangerous male - Syrin. Things are not as they appear, however! This is an extraordinary adventure, sure to keep you on the edge of your seat. It’s not necessary to read the series in order, but it is helpful to do so.

Dark and torture

This book in the series was a shock and disappointment. After a few chapters of the heroine living a mean and brutal childhood she ends up in prison for more brutality. Also the author uses so many alien words that lack context and reference throughout the series it is annoying. I don't get enjoyment in a romance that is dark with child abuse, terror, and fear for the heroine. Am discontinuing the author because not a fan of dark abuse especially of children.

I am voluntarily reviewing an Advanced Reader Copy of this book that I received for free from the author.

Sara, currently the only female prisoner on Zeta 149 and a human, makes a deal with Syrin, a fellow prisoner and a Xylan Berserker Bounty Hunter, for protection while incarcerated. As their story progresses secrets are revealed, both good and bad. Michelle Mills has done it again with the steam and intrigue.

I fall further in love with this series with every one.

Well I guess if you have to end up in a nasty prison for a crime you didn't commit it cool that your cellmate is a big bad a** warrior berserker! Syrin is not only big and bad he's HOT too and Sara the human is reacting to him. She's the only female in this prison , she needs a protector. Somebody that can keep her not only alive but from being raped. She's willing to give up her virginity for it!
This was a good storyline with great characters..I like romance and HEA. Good read.

Syrin

Syrin is a known berserker and is not allowed a Mate or to Breed, however; that might change when he meets Sara. Sara is finally free from the abusive family until she lands in prison for something that she claims she didn’t do. She asks for Syrins’ help in protecting her life while she works on how to escape. But plans can and do always change. Now if you want to read the book 📖 and find out what happens I highly recommend this book 📖.

I thought this book was a great continuation to the series (standalone though). I found both Syrin and Sara to be strong people that made them really likeable. There's a great sci-fi elements, especially when it comes to reading about the different species and way of life. What I really enjoyed is how Sara and Syrin's interactions involved from just protectiveness to encompass tenderness and love.

Syrin and Sara began their relationship in the worst way possible being cellmates in prison. Their agreement to protect each other turned into so much more when they accidentally discovered they were mates. I loved the stunt Sara pulled in the shower to escape the Peerans. Will Kroga ever get his?

Wrongly accused & undercover

When him and his team go undercover to recover a criminal that has been alluding the high command he didn't expect to find his mate. She's been wrongly accused and convicted of a crime. She's the only woman at the prison, knows the odds are against her and is strangely attracted to one of the new prisoners that she is arriving with.
