New York Times bestselling author James Patterson.

In this Thriller Short, New York Times bestselling author F. Paul Wilson places his urban mercenary, Repairman Jack, in an almost impossible situation. Repairman Jack just wants to be left alone, but that’s difficult to do when a robber is poking a .357 revolver in your face at the local drugstore. Things only get worse when three more stoned gunmen join the fray and threaten a crowd of customers. Not a big fan of heroics, Jack rises to the occasion. But being the hero is hard when you like to avoid closed-circuit cameras and the only weapons at your disposal come from the shopping aisles. With everyone locked inside the store, the situation demands quick reflexes and a ton of ingenuity. But if Jack doesn’t act quickly, his anonymity will end at the morgue.

Francis Paul Wilson is an author, born in Jersey City, New Jersey. He writes novels and short stories primarily in the science fiction and horror genres. His debut novel was Healer (1976). Wilson is also a part-time practicing family physician. He made his first sales in 1970 to Analog and continued to write science fiction throughout the seventies. In 1981 he ventured into the horror genre with the international bestseller, The Keep, and helped define the field throughout the rest of the decade. In the 1990s he became a true genre hopper, moving from science fiction to horror to medical thrillers and branching into interactive scripting for Disney Interactive and other multimedia companies. He, along with Matthew J. Costello, created and scripted FTL Newsfeed which ran daily on the Sci-Fi Channel from 1992-1996.

Another one of these great short stories from a Thriller collection. Repairman Jack in this one. One of my favorite all-time characters. Took just a few minutes to read and savor.

What would Repairman Jack do if he was unarmed and some bad shit was going down all around him? Why, he'd save the day, don't you know? But how would he do it? I mean, did Jack ever watch MacGyver? It's hard to say, but I suspect that the author did! This short is every bit Jack that the novels are, so if you're a fan, you can't walk away from this without reading it. So much fun! If you don't know Jack, read this short and you'll want to.

Like a single episode from a Repairman Jack novel, Interlude at Duane's is a short thriller. Only 29 pages long, it makes for a relaxing interlude in an otherwise busy day. Jack runs into an old friend, they stop at a Duane's Pharmacy for a light snack, mayhem ensues.
