Ann Matthews Martin was born on August 12, 1955. She grew up in Princeton, New Jersey, with her parents and her younger sister, Jane. After graduating from Smith College, Ann became a teacher and then an editor of children's books. She's now a full-time writer.

Ann gets the ideas for her books from many different places. Some are based on personal experiences, while others are based on childhood memories and feelings. Many are written about contemporary problems or events. All of Ann's characters, even the members of the Baby-sitters Club, are made up. But many of her characters are based on real people. Sometimes Ann names her characters after people she knows, and other times she simply chooses names that she likes.

Ann has always enjoyed writing. Even before she was old enough to write, she would dictate stories to her mother to write down for her. Some of her favorite authors at that time were Lewis Carroll, P. L. Travers, Hugh Lofting, Astrid Lindgren, and Roald Dahl. They inspired her to become a writer herself.

Since ending the BSC series in 2000, Ann’s writing has concentrated on single novels, many of which are set in the 1960s.

After living in New York City for many years, Ann moved to the Hudson Valley in upstate New York where she now lives with her dog, Sadie, and her cats, Gussie, Willy and Woody. Her hobbies are reading, sewing, and needlework. Her favorite thing to do is to make clothes for children.

Karen's Wedding, or Ms Colman has blatant favouritism.

We open to Karen telling us she's an expert on weddings because her parents are divorced and re-married other people. Never mind bigamists polygamists! This girl knows what she's talking about. And apparently it's a good thing she's from a broken home because her teacher is getting married and has singled out her favourite pupil to be her flower girl.

Hold up, Nelly- I couldn't see this flying with other parents. Why does Karen get to be so special? This could easily cause some classroom issues. I can't see my father thinking that's on the level.

Anyway, Karen goes around being prissy because she's the class pet, and Ms Colman is sad because her family can't attend the wedding. Seriously? Your sister is such a cheap-ass she can't will herself to attend her damn sibling's wedding? For real? I'm sure you could go halfsies on a ticket or something, c'mon, now. Be there on your sister's wedding day, Jesus.

The wedding comes around and what the hell, they're having photos BEFORE the wedding? Okay, I'm not a traditionalist for weddings by any means, and I know most folks have individual photos beforehand, and the groom with groomsmen, bride with bridesmaids, or whatever, but the whole party, together, beforehand? That seems odd to me. And then Karen creams herself because she saw her teacher give her new husband a chaste kiss. CALL THE PRESS, THE COUPLE KISS ON THE DAY! OH GOD.

Then we end with really bizarre series of letters from Karen and Caroline, Ms Colman's niece, and none of it fits in with the rest of the story. It feels like Martin didn't know how to end- in which case, bad writing, bro.

Why on earth would Ms. Colman invite her entire class to her wedding? And then to pick Karen to be her flower girl?! Can you say favoritism?

Also, the niece totally has Dawn’s handwriting.

When you were too old for childrens books, but too young for The Baby Sitters Club.
Ann M. Martin really is a genius to piggy back on the success of The Baby Sitters Club.

After reading the little sisters series I remember feeling like a real adult opening up that first BSC book.

You know, I got married as a teacher, to a teacher, during the school year. My husband and I joked about having our second and third graders as part of the wedding party, but in the end we didn't. Know why? Because having your students in your wedding party IS FREAKING WEIRD.

Ms Colman gets married!

So random that Karen's mom and stepdad happen to be close friends with Ms Colman and her fiance.

So sweet of the kids in Ms Colman's class to buy her a gift, and actually work to raise money for it.

And so sweet of Karen to offer Ms Colman's niece the flower girl position when she made a surprise appearance, especially since the role meant so much to Karen. Nice that the niece is super shy and didn't wanna do it alone, so it worked out that they both got to co-flower girl.

Lmao the Goodreads reviews for this book: Y'ALL ARE BRUTAL.

This is a pretty good one, spoiler alert lol but I think it's sweet that Karen offered her coveted role of Ms Colman's flower girl to Ms Colman's niece, Caroline. (Also I am flummoxed that Ms Colman's sister originally wasn't going to attend the wedding!) Everyone says Karen is a brat, but this shows that she's got a good heart. But alas, haters gonna hate.

Karen offers to sacrifice something she wants to make other people happy? FAKE NEWS. (Or M. Destiny finally got that spell working and Boo-Boo hacked up a decency hairball into Karen's cereal.)

Such a cute book. I love Karen’s relationship with her teacher, and she is so mature in the decision to share her flower girl duties with a last minute visiting niece.

Cute story. Nice to see how Karen always wants to do the right thing. I was impressed with her this story, because, usually she seems like a nice and smart kid, but a little selfish, as is normal for a seven-year-old, and this time, she considered what was best for someone else.

Just for fun I decided to read one of my old books from my childhood and I can honestly say that I miss reading them. Can't wait to read them again. =)
