Born in flame and flood, the newly born community of Atlantis has begun to rebuild from being forced from their homes by the Demonic hordes. For Elanthielle however, the war is still out there. Plagued by dreams that may mean more than they seem—as well as her own burning urge to strike back at the demons that took everything from her—Elan becomes convinced that something vital is about to happen to alter the course of humanity’s fate; something far deadlier than anything Earth has faced thus far.
As the demons prepare their endgame, and Elan sets herself against a demon horde of immeasurable strength, higher powers are watching... and with all else now lost, the watchers make a play of their own.
From the Devil’s Triangle to the Demon Sea, the war for Earth has just begun.
I didn’t enjoy this book quite as much as the previous one, I suspect I was able to ignore some of the very minor irritations in the first book, but they seemed to have grown while reading this one. The author still over describes things and has an annoying habit of switching from one character to another at critical moments. Then there is the way he tries to make fights seem more exciting by making improbable things happen at inopportune moments. Often they don’t really make sense, or contradict something written earlier in the book. Plus there are the liberties he takes with timings and numbers, which twist and change to fit his narrative with little concern for any sort of reality. However I still found the basic story quite interesting, which is why I have given three stars instead of two.
When I started this book I assumed it was the final part of the story as there have been no more books for three and a half years. It’s not! My worry is that the author has given up on this series and there never will be a conclusion to the story.
The impetuous teenager Elanthiele strikes again. In this episode, she has been trained by a magical book and blessed with magical powers by "heavenly" beings (who swoop into the story just long enough to test her resolve and impart the hidden powers). Though she understands none of it, she is driven by a desire to rid her world of its demon conquerors and support her friends in spite of overwhelming odds. it is the stuff of legend and myth.
Currie's strength is in describing action, so those who come looking for richly detailed characters who progress along a narrative arc will be left wanting. In these stories, you aren't given enough backstory to anticipate the moves that make the story work out for the protagonist. But, you are given enough that you aren't terribly surprised that they DO work out. Still, it is a fun ride. In this case, the teenaged Elan has a child's optimism about life, believing that everything she does will work out. When her childish hubris should get her killed, the superpower that has been embedded within her rises up right on cue to save the day. (If this is too much of a spoiler for you, sorry.)
Like the elves of Tolkien's Ring trilogy, Currie has populated these stories (alongside the humans) with beings who can be killed but would otherwise live forever. This gives them a particular point of view, both in terms of strengths and weaknesses. I am enjoying how Currie is describing and using them in the story. Currie takes Biblical "lore" and adds to it to create the backstory of who the characters are and the nature of the world. For me, it is interesting world building.
I started reading this series hoping that it would explain the weapons and world of Currie's Scourwind Legacy series. I still believe it will and I look forward to the next installment.
I read the first book of this series some time ago and liked it enough to buy book 2 and leave it on my Kindle. I actually forgot all about it because of other things i got involved with reading. Finally getting back to it was a fun trip through demon territory. Fast reading with good characters. These 2 books blend all sorts of times, beings, and machines to present a unique mixture.
This a really great read it may even be as good as Lord of the Rings
This book starts slow, that's a relative statemen,t compared to the finish. It starts as if you accidentally fell into the river above Niagara Falls and then realized the river was carrying you towards the falls. In this series your a 1000 feet above the falls. I really need to get into the next book, the current has gotten stronger and I need to position myself for where I have the best chance of survival.
Another great series. This is a very different take on the Atlantis mythology, that is simply a joy to read. Strong characters, tech so far ahead that its magic and demons. I will await more from this storyline. Sadly I have now read all of this authors novels and will have to wait till more follows.😥
I'm hoping there is a third book in the series to wrap up all of the yet as explained events that impacted important characters. This was one of your best, but, I think I could say that about most of your books. In summary, I loved it and finished wanting more.
I really enjoyed this book and this series so far! The characters are great. The mix of tech and magic is just fun to read. Nonstop action kept me turning pages. The only bad part is now I’ll have to wait for the next one.
I chose this rating because it was a great book but also because it matched many of my own beliefs about the nature of reality. I just can't wait for the sequel. Please don't make us wait too long Mr. Currie!
The final book in the series has been released. For some reason it is not listed as part of the series. Just search for Atlantis rising.
Now about the book it just gets better and better. More mystery more drama more intrigue more action what questions that need to be answered. Rarely do you encounter a series that has some of everything you might want a lovable MC a good story and one where you want to see them come out on top against the nightmarish odds. Can’t wait to weed the third book in the series this is my second time reading the second book in the series I had to refresh myself before diving into the last one I hope you do the same.
This book was slow in places, although there was plenty of action. And the main character, Elan, seemed kind of flat. She's still the same angry and petulant teenager from the first book. Caleb has grown a little, character-wise, but he's pretty wooden too. I'd like to see some depth from these characters or I don't think I'll be able to continue this series. Results: i liked the first book, but this one was slower, and the characters were nearly one-dimensional. There's obviously going to be a third book, so hopefully these issues will be addressed.
Lots of interesting things going on and a ton of potential for the next book to be epic. Hoping to see even more of Elan as the central character in the future, she's just so much more interesting and nuanced than Caleb. Looking forward to the next one.
I loved this book more so than the first in this series. It ran a little long and the ending wasn't much of a payoff. I understand it's a series but the didn't get the same sense of satisfaction with the way we left our heroes.
I typically enjoy ECs stories but the h is a continuous TSTL machine. I was hoping after the 4th incident, the demons would gut her. The H had his TSTL moment dragged out long enough to survive. I will read the last book in the series and hope that it is not more of the same. 😱😱😱😱😱
This was a better than average book. It did not grab me like some of his other books. Good enough to read but I do not know if good enough to read sequel.
