Disney Princess Aurora doesn't even know she's a princess! She's lived her entire life in a cottage in the forest with her Aunt Flora, Aunt Fauna, and Aunt Merryweather. She is thankful for her animal friends and the birds that sing with her, but she longs for some adventure. When she meets a young girl who is part of a traveling troupe of actors, Aurora's whole world opens up.
My daughter and I absolutely love this new series, and this was no exception. Aurora, Cinderella, and Snow White are my absolute least favorite Disney princesses. But I love the back stories they and all the others are being given as children.
I loved this story, Brier rose wants more than the boundaries of her current life, dreaming of exploring not yet understanding why she has these limits. Then she meets by chance a girl named Grace who is part of an acting troupe, together they find a way of switching and experiencing each other’s lives but trouble is always just round the corner.
I loved that Rose made a friend, having never met anyone new in her life it was something she dreamed of, Grace was just what she needed and she got a chance to learn so many new things because of her, have new experiences and see different things in her life and have a little bit of fun.
I found this book so enjoyable and fun, the drawings were beautiful as always and the story was super exciting and I loved seeing that she was able to branch out, getting a small extension of the life we know for Brier Rose, she had a little bit of fun as a child which is so sweet to read about.
I really loved meeting Grace she was so sweet and a perfect match for Rose, I liked that we got to learn more about Maleficent too which I wasn’t expecting to learn whilst reading so that was fascinating. This whole book was so incredible and a great addition to this Princess beginnings series.
If you love Disney and the princess’s then I do suggest you give this one a chance it’s really exciting, really fun and not all what you’d expect. It’s such a cleverly written adventure of friendship and understanding why limits sometimes exist.
Just a cute book to jumpstart that reading habit back. I guess we’ll never be too old to read children’s books. I’m glad I found this in the last Big Bad Wolf sale. I’m obsessed with anything Disney so I had to grab another side/backstory of the princesses. If you’ve wondered how it was for Briar Rose or Aurora to grow up in the woods, for sure she had her few adventures especially when she was a kid. So this story is one of those. Very It Takes Two or Parent Trap.
i love this short story so much! it tells the story of young princess aurora, before the "movie" storyline (I don't know if that makes sense).
i was hit by a wave of nostalgia when aunt flora, fauna and merryweather's names came up. and the quaint little cottage? it made me want to rewatch the movie again.
in this story, we can see aurora making a new friend, and possibly her only friend before she met the prince (if this storyline has any connections at all with the movie, i don't know, but i'd love to see it work). and she was able to join in grace's (the new friend) community for a few days...by switching places with grace. they're smart young girls and it's so cool to see how they're written as these mature, yet also still playful children.
i enjoyed the storyline a lot, but what made me think about this short story afterwards was this: maleficent is an evil fairy and in grace's and aurora's understanding, she's a myth / legend. it was odd seeing as maleficent would be the one cursing aurora as she grew older, and a real being at that.
i definitely want to rewatch all The Sleeping Beauty franchise now. especially the original film!
Young Aurora meets Grace from a travelling troupe. The girls do a switch to experience each other lives after rehearsals for three days.
I liked this quote : 'Not everyone has such pure instincts. The world can be a cruel place,' Madam Taloa said. 'But that is why it's important to recognise good people who do good things. For I believe there are many more good people than bad people.' Page 117, Paperback Edition
Read this to my daughter. We're skipping around in the series.
Briar Rose, or just Rose, is tired of being confined to the forest and her aunts' cottage. Grace, a young girl traveling in her family's acting troupe, wants nothing more than to have a warm, cozy home that doesn't go anywhere. They do a 'switcheroo'.
These stories all have great lessons to learn about friendship and more.
A lesson in truth and growing. I love how this was a story from when Princess Aurora was still young and trying to understand the restrictions placed on her life. How doing the hardest thing sometimes is the best thing.
The perfect way to end the night for any princesses lover! My daughter is lovin' listening to her dad and I read her a chapter or two a night. Highly recommend these Disney Princess books to the young and old.
Well written considering it’s from Disney. Overall, the storyline is really good, but I hated the way the two girls lied and were deceptive. They were punished, but they also both agreed that it was “worth it.” Other than that, it was a pretty good read.
Cute story about Aurora growing up with her fairy aunts. Helps teach important lessons about following rules, but also growing up and experiencing the world.
Super adorable book. My daughter and I read it over the course of the nights. Very sweet story of when Aurora was little. With some photos in the book too
