Very informative graphic novel about sharks. Not sure what age range this is aimed at, my guess is middle-grade, although some of the vocabulary might be a little challenging for kids. The art is good and all salient points are covered.
According to the Internet Bernard Séret is a retired French marine biologist, more specifically an ichthyologist specializing in sharks and rays, of which he has discovered several species. I am pretty sure that he is the grey haired narrator of this.

It's not easy to find an educational comic book which isn't too childish and with scetchy art. This one (the first of the series I get my hands on) delivers valuable info about sharks in a mature yet comprehensive way, entertaining for both children and adults.
The art is really good, especially if you think that it's mostly animals in the panels, always a tricky subject for any artist. Yet, the anatomy and the distinction between the sharks' species is spot on.

I learned so much and it's very well organized and presented! The artist does a very good job rendering all of the different species.

(2,8 of 5 for something which is too intensive for kids and a bit dumb and simplistic for adults)
The art first, that's easy - the kind of traditional European style mixed with something more like illustration. Fine by me.
The content. Well, this is worse. The talks about sharks are very wide but shallow and rather patchy, but that can't be excused by "limited space". First, the comic repeats itself here and there, most obviously with Inuit shark fact - which is the exact same information but with different pictures one-third a book apart.
Second, comics get unnecessarily wordy. Why does it start with a few pages of simple text, which is actually very readable and ends with tens of pages of a man just walking and releasing massive text bubbles with rather boring information? That would make like two pages of plain text, which would be much more "digestible" than in comic form, where it's rather tedious than anything else. It very much feels like authors would like to do the fun part and just be somehow finished quickly with the rest. Shame.

Great book on basic biology, behavior, and ecology of sharks without all the sensationalism you get from Shark Week. Well written, sophisticated text. Solid, informative reference for anyone seeking facts instead of hype. A good book for kids who want to graduate from the basic picture books.

This was a super little non-fiction graphic novel about sharks.
Although the book itself was quite small the information inside was detailed and well researched. It covered the subject of sharks in surprising depth and was an enjoyable, easy read. The writing was very well done, accessible and lively and the graphic novel format supported the factual information beautifully. In many places the art not only supported the text but took the lead in communicating the facts. It really worked well, to the extent that I find myself surprised that more factual books don't use this format.
I think non-fiction books using a graphic novel format like this would be incredibly useful in schools, especially for the upper primary and lower secondary school age groups (8-11 years and 11-14 years) since they would provide good support for students who find reading larger bodies of text difficult without holding back more able students who might want to really get to grips with the biological details.
I enjoyed this book so much that I have ordered another book in the series the "Little Book of Knowledge: Tattoos", also published by IDW. It's a shame they only seem to have 4 books in this series. I would love to see more.

হাঙ্গর বিশেষজ্ঞের সাথে কথোপকথনের মাধ্যমে অতি সহজ ভাষায়, সুস্পষ্ট চিত্রসহ গ্রাফিক নভেলের মাধ্যমে হাঙ্গরদের পরিচিতি। বিবর্তনের ফলে হাঙ্গর কিভাবে সৃষ্টি হলো, কোন কোন শারীরিক বৈশিষ্ট্যের কারণে হাঙ্গরকে অন্যান্য মাছ থেকে আলাদা করা যায়, হাঙ্গরের বিভিন্ন প্রজাতির পরিচিতি, তাদের স্বভাব, আশেপাশে মানুষ দেখলে তারা আসলে কি রকম আচরণ করে, ইত্যাদি সব কৌতুহল মেটাতে আর প্রশ্নের উত্তর পেতে ছোট্ট এ বই পড়া যথেষ্ট।
যারা হাঙ্গর সম্পর্কে কৌতুহলী, খুব অল্প সময়ে বস্তুনিষ্ঠ আর বৈজ্ঞানিক তথ্য জানতে চান, তাদের জন্য চমৎকার একটা বই।

Beautiful illustrations and chock-full of information! I will say that the average child may have a hard time completely understanding all that the book talks about. There are a bunch of terms that may not be apparent to some readers and will have to look up on their own. But I believe this a wonderful start for anyone who wants to learn more about sharks. While not as simple as others like it, this book is still a lot more digestible for people unfamiliar or not used to nonfiction literature. If your child reads this, I highly recommend reading it together!

Sharks
Good little book. I did learn some stuff I did not know. Good job. Recommend for all ages. Sharks are not fierce creatures just waiting to eat you. They are beautiful and many are endangered. Many variables come together to ensure a shark attack. Use common sense in the water and let sharks live.

Excellent graphics and a comprehensive, scientific look at sharks and their history. My daughter is a marine biology student and approved this book as a useful tool to take hysterics out of discussions about sharks.
