FANTASTIC book! Based on the illustrations on the cover and throughout this book, I imagined this book would be meant for late elementary aged kids; however, the content throughout the book is appropriate for all ages. This book is not a story, but rather an in-depth look at the many forms of bullying and how to deal with it, but presented in an engaging way. The section on cyberbullying alone is worth having your teen kids read it. Another favorite is a list of questions that kids can ask themselves to gauge if they are on the road to bullying so that they can begin to make changes. There is also a brief section regarding negative self-talk, which is also a form of bullying that we don't take into consideration. Overall, this book is worth having in your home library and having available in school libraries.

At the back of the book, there are lists of other books and websites that kids can check out with regards to bullying and there is also a valuable section for parents and teachers. This is the kind of book that would be helpful to read with your kids at the beginning of every school year. Let's help make our kids "Bully-Proof!"

A big thank you to NetGalley and Free Spirit Publishing for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

*ARC of the book was received from publisher through NetGalley* A wonderful addition to our classroom library! Bullying Is a Pain in the Brain helps students understand what bullying is (and goes into detail about the different types of bullying) but how to handle it, and how to make sure that students don't become bullies themselves. The illustrations are cute and an done in a way that engages the reader. I also loved how the book encourages the reader to reflect on any negative feelings they may have about their own image by asking them to be positive and encourage their friends to do the same. The different colored fonts are a great way to draw the reader's eye to important information from the author. I have the previous edition in my classroom library, and use it as a read aloud throughout the year. The section on myths is especially interesting to my students because many of them thought they were facts. They end up feeling much better after discussing the do and don't sections, because they are given concrete advice for how to handle any situation. I also love that instead of being vague about what the reader should do, the author even provides statements and questions the reader can ask and say.

This book is part of the Laugh and Learn series, books to help kids get through life's rough spots. This one goes through various aspects of bullying such as what it is, what to do if you are a bully, how to help your friends if they are bullied, cyberbullying, myths and more. It is written for older children (age 8 and up) or adults, not very young children. It would definitely start some excellent discussions in a group of children. There are some very practical suggestions given that could be put to immediate use. The back of the book has some great suggestions of how to use the book, further resources and websites for parents, teachers and children. This is a great book to be used in schools and with groups of children who have been bullied or have witnessed bullying.

I received a copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

This book addresses what I consider essential components to address bullying: including a message that the target of bullying is not at fault for being the victim of abuse, a dispelling of the myth or outdated belief that bullying is a normal part of childhood and an emphasis on the power of bystanders to defuse the bully’s power. This book explains to elementary school age children, what bullying is, why some people are bullies, how to stand up to or escape from bullies and how not to be a bully. I think that children and adults will find this book to be helpful. I received this book free to review from Netgalley.

Defining bullying for students is very important. That this book will help not only the bullied, but also the bully is nice. Negativity is rampant today, and this book is very well done and thought out.
Thanks to Netgalley and Free Spirit Publishing for allowing me to read this proof.
