It was I believe the 1982 edition with the Rock in the 80s appendix, however that edition has no cover image so this one will do. Absolutely essential reading back in the day and inadvertently introduced me to a lot of the artists' that I would go on to investigate later down the proverbial track: Eno, Japan, John Foxx, Joni Mitchell among them.

One of my Dad’s books from the 1970’s, I remember being mesmerized by this as a kid. Reading now, it’s an interesting time capsule from a time where John Lennon, John Bonham and Bob Marley were still alive, Steve Perry had not yet joined Journey and Bruce Springsteen just released his 3rd album.

Pretty old (of course being from the 1970s) so of course majority of it isn't up to date, which is quite funny to me actually. They pictures are beautiful, and band descriptions are magical.

In its day this was the best rock n roll resource available. I’d still recommend it to anyone looking for an overview of 50s 60s and 70s American and British rock n roll.
